Going to school always puts me in a depressive mood...

I entered a specific public high school at the behest of my parents, one of superior standing within the entire prefecture. Adults would probably scold me for feeling moody that I'm privileged to go to such a good school, but I just wish people could understand what it feels like to be a kid forced every day to go to a place they don't want to go to.

Teacher: "Morning."

Jun: "Good morning."

I act boring and plain in class so as not to stand out. I find my noisy blathering classmates to be obnoxious, but I also find myself a bit jealous that they can be like that.

God, I sound like a total emo...

"Hey, hey! It's this freaking awesome?!"

It was right before today's first period P.E. class; A Fox was showing everyone around him his bare back while some other guy students were still changing in the classroom. If I remember right, his name was something like Seiya Ito...

He's awfully loud in class, but not enough to qualify as a Yankee, the halfassed punk...

"Aw snap that's cool!"

"Oh my god lol"

As for what's so cool...

It appears that he dyed a portion of the fur on his back into to form an artist's logo mark. Fur dyeing is one of the trendiest things you can do as an anthro, but a self-attempt by a high school student has no way to turn out well and just comes across as laughable.

"Isn't that against school rules?"

Seiya: "It's hidden under my clothes so nobody's gonna see it! 'Sall good!"

Well if you can't see it then there's no point, is there? Can't believe these idiots actually buying into that...

Shit! When I was glancing at them I accidentally knocked my unzipped school satchel off my desk!

Jun: "Ahhh!"

From the thud and the weird noise I made, everyone around looked at me.

From the moment I thought 'shit!', it was already too late.

Seiya: "Wa-ho! That's a limited edition clear file from an Ayu concert!"

Why was this in my satchel? Did I accidentally stick it into one of my textbooks?

But yeah. The mark on Seiya's back was actually of my favorite singer 'Ayumi Hamazai'.

Jun: "Give that back!"

"For real? Hehe, looks Jun is an Ayu fan."

"Who'd have thought? Lolololol."

Sieya: "Woah-ho, inside is one of those cards that you only get on her first edition albums! And this is a limited edition sticker for member of her fan club! That's freaking awesome!"

Jun: "Don't touch that!"

Ayu has a sort of punk/cool bitch vibe going on. If I were to tell anyone that I was a fan I'd clearly get made fun of!

But I guess this guy is just going to laugh at and mock me anyway.

Seiya: "That's so cool, I really wanted this clear file but wasn't able to get it. But anyway, so I'm just glad I found another Ayu fan, since they're so hard to find!"

Jun: "Huh?"

Seiya: "We're team Ayu now!"

He's holding out his right hand to me. Uh... does he want a handshake?

I guess I might as well go along with it.

Jun: "uh... yeah."

Ever since then...

Seiya: "Juuuun! Let's go to the school concession stand!"

Seiya: "Jun! We're going to the same portable classroom, right?"

Seiya: "Jun! Let's go to the bathroom together!"

Even though we hadn't talked at all before now, he's gluing himself to me with crazy enthusiasm.

You don't freaking need me to go to the bathroom with you!

Jun: "Ayee!"

Seiya: "Wow Jun, you've got a niiiice ass!"

Sneaking up behind me while I'm taking a leak is foul play!

Jun: "S-Stop that! Uwahhhh!"

Seiya: "Lol, that noise you make is too cute!"

Jun: "Ahh, ahh, just stop you dumbass!"

It pisses me off that he plays pranks on me and snickers like that!

Still, up till now I haven't had any friends to play pranks like this on me, so I guess it's not all that bad...

Or maybe it is.

Seiya: "Your reaction is just so priceless that I can't help it!"

Jun: "What kind of a reason is that?!"

"Hehehehe. Anyway, Fifth period today is P.E., isn't it? Ughhh, what a pain. Let's hurry up and go get changed."

Jun: "Alright."

While changing I suddenly noticed. Seiya has a handsome face, he's taller than me, and has that nice thin body and he's got great style...

Shame he's probably got a girlfriend.

He's just so fit and slim around the waist that it's kind of erotic, and how he sways that big Fox tail of his is kind of cute...

Sieya: "What're you lookin' at?"

Jun: "Huh? I'm not lookin' at anything!"

Seiya: "You know your body is a little flabby for a Cat."

Jun: "Shut up. It's just cause I'm not part of any sports clubs like you are."

Seiya: "Sports club? I quit mine quite a while ago."

Jun: "For real? You look like you exercise a lot though."

Seiya: "I used to. But it was a pain so I quit. And I got sick of the guys treating me like a little kid."

Little did we know then that an incident was about to befall upon us.

After of P.E. class

Sieya: "Shit! I lost my phone!"

Jun: "Seriously?"

Sieya: "I probably dropped it in the warehouse when I was putting away the equipment!"

Jun: "Dude, don't be bringing your phone to P.E class... Wanna go search for it?"

Apparently he kept his phone in his gym shorts and it fell out from there.

It seemed like somebody was still cleaning up equipment, because luckily the door to the outside gym equipment warehouse was still open. The plan was to search for the phone, and get back to class ASAP.

Teacher: "Oh whoops, forgot to lock the warehouse... Better go do that."

Seiya: "Okay, where is it? It's so dark I can't see."

Jun: "If we don't find it soon class is going to start without us."

Seiya: "Oh! I found it! Thank God!"

That's when it happened.

Suddenly the door to the warehouse closed, followed by the clanking sound of a key turning.

Jun: "Huh?!"

My surroundings became pitch black.

I tried pulling on the door, but it wouldn't open.

Jun: "Did we seriously just get locked in?!"

Seiya: "Huh? HEEEY! LET US OUT!"

Seiya began pounding on the door but nobody came.

Jun: "Call somebody with your phone!"

Seiya: "Oh yeah! Oh wait... the battery's dead."

Jun: "Freaking really?!?!"

Right then I was hit by an incredible feeling of anxiety. When I was a little kid I was once accidentally locked in my household's outside storeroom. I wasn't in there for long, but it became a sort of trauma for me...

My hands, my legs, they're shaking.

Jun: "Seiya...? Seiya where are you?"

Seiya: "I'm right here, Jun. What's up?"

I managed to grab on to his hand.

Jun: "Uh... Uwah..." *sobs*

Seiya: "Huh?! The heck are you crying for?!"

Jun: "Don't let me die... Sieyaaa."

Seiya: "Calm down dude! At worst they'll come to open this place for club sports after school!"

But even knowing that my tears and trembling wouldn't stop. The anxiety from that day began to clearly resurface inside of me. When I crouched down on the ground, Seiya nestled up close and started rubbing my back and shoulders.

Seiya: "It's okay, it's okay, everything's fine. I'm here. Look, I'm holding your hand and everything."

Jun: *sobs* "Don't let go..."

Seiya: "I won't let go. Sorry for getting you into this mess..."

He kept on rubbing my shoulders.

Pressed together as we were I could feel Sieya's body heat through my gym clothes. There was the smell of deodorant, and sweat...

Seiya: "Everything's fine."

Even after the chime rang for sixth period, there was no sign of anyone coming to unlock the warehouse. It might even take until after school.

Sieya: "Huh, I thought you were totally pudgy but I guess you have a bit of muscle, like right here."

Jun: "I used to do sports too. Also you're touching me too much."

Seiya: "Sorry."

Jun: "Uuuhhh, I didn't say move away from me!"

Seiya: "Oh okay. There, there..."

I cuddled up against Seiya.

Jun: "I absolutely can't stand dark or claustrophobic places... Is it okay if I do this?"

Seiya: "It's fine. Let's stay like this until somebody opens the lock."

Jun: "Thanks... Seiya, do you have a girlfriend?"

Seiya: "I used to have one, but not anymore. Well, I guess we can just consider Ayu to be my girlfriend now!"

Jun: "haha... that's funny. But why did you end up liking Ayu anyway?"

Most of the kids of my generation have never even heard of Ayumi Hamazaki, after all...

Sieya: "Uhh... Well it goes back to what I was saying a while ago. The reason I quit my club wasn't because it was a pain or anything. I uh, wasn't able to keep playing."

He spoke now with a quiet tone, entirely different from earlier. This was the first time I ever saw this darker side of Seiya.

Seiya: "I did basketball until first year of high school. But I got injured during a practice, and lost some of my ability to move my shoulder and arm. Maybe if I forced myself I could have kept up with it, but at the time I just got so depressed that I couldn't even try."

Jun: "Oh, I didn't know..."

Seiya: "I was so angry, sad, had no place to vent my anger... It was like the whole world turned grey then. Something that I worked so hard at was suddenly taken from me, it felt like I was dead while still alive."

Even Seiya, who's always cheerful and goofs around like a fool, had a past like that. I guess everyone has their own darkness to hide in their heart.

It's a theme you often see in comics. People aren't strong enough to stay happy when something they pour all their passion into breaks or is taken away...

Seiya: "Around then is when I just so happened to listen to one of Ayu's songs. So I guess that's why. Casue she taught me that even if life is dark and painful now, happy days will come where all that will be behind you."

Jun: "I see. I've always been weak, and pushed around by others... and in those dark times Ayu saved me. So I understand."

Seiya: "Yeah, and I also feel that if I act happy people around me will feel a bit happier too."

Everyone feels lost, everyone bears pain... Right now I feel like I'm incredibly weak and worthless.

However, Ayu taught me something.

Jun: "Don't feel uneasy about the future. A day will come where you can smile."

Seiya: "There's a strength to be found from overcoming those night where you shed tears."

So know that you won't lose to this thing... that's what she taught me.

Ultimately it took until after sixth period for us to get rescued.

Seiya: "I'm so glad we're out!"

Jun: "Sorry for acting so pathetic in there. Will you keep it a secret from everyone?"

Seiya: "Sure thing. Those private parts of you showed me and what we did in there will just be my little secret."

Jun: "Don't talk about it in such a weird way!"

Even though I went through a lot of annoyances getting groped and pranked, I don't feel bad about it at all.

Rather, when I'm with Seiya, being at this school that has felt monotone up until now became just a bit fun, I guess. What Seiya said earlier about making everyone around him happy, I might have been caught up in that.

Jun: "Well, today I also have a part time job. I'll catch you tomorrow."

Seiya: "See ya. Hm, maybe I should get a part time job too..."

Jun: "I work at a nearby eatery, so check it out sometime."

Seiya: "Yeah I'll think about it!"

Tomorrow I have to go to school, but I'm looking forward to it. What's up with that? This is the first time I've thought that since entering high school.

Nighttime, after work

Jun: "Huuuuuuh..."

I'm taking a break, smoking by the backside of the store. Maybe influence from Kiyoto-san is part of the reason why I started doing this?

Oh look, the moment I thought, 'Once I finish this I'll head back' my phone started ringing.

Don't recognize the number.

Jun: "Hello?"

"Junjun! It's been a while! It's me! Do you remember me~~~?"

Jun: "Huh? Who the hell are you?"

"That's mean! Guess you don't remember then--- It's me, Mitsuki!"

Jun: "Just kidding. It's been a while, Mikkun."

Mitsuki is a somewhat chubby Bear that I was friends with in middle school. One of my few friends. For a while now we haven't met or been in contact. And now he's even got a new number.
