While Bendis tries to think of a plan to escape, Jerald attempts to find him and Kannan before it's too late.

The panda bear grunted after he was thrown out onto the hard, gravel and glass infested ground. He winced when Kinley grabbed him by the ears and hauled him back onto his footpaws, shoving him down the alley towards his hideout. Bendis breathed heavily as he started to walk forward, grunting occasionally when the bald-headed tattooed man shoved him from time to time. The ursine glanced around the decrepit buildings and the few anthros who were busy getting high or sleeping on their filthy mattresses. Bendis grunted again when he heard a loud crunch and felt a sharp pain in his right footpaw.

"Fuck! I just cut myself!"

"So what?" barked Kinley.

"I'm bleeding. You gotta patch me up."

"And why would I do that?"

"Look...y-you kidnapped me for a reason, right? You need me for som-something. So, you know, uh, you gotta make sure I'm not wounded or whatever. I might have cut an artery or some shit!"

Kinley chuckled. "You're right. I'll chop off your footpaw, cauterize the wound, make you hop around on one leg. Sound good?"

Bendis huffed. "On second thought, I'm fine. I'll, uh, let the glass push itself out."

The leader of the street gang and the panda bear continued to walk forward until they reached Kinley's hideout. Bendis scowled as he stared at the building, the tall structure looking like it was about to fall down at any moment. What was left of Kinley's gang was standing outside beside the building, sitting down on lawn chairs, or standing beside a pile of tires, lots of broken glass, and a drum can filled with burning materials. The panda bear spotted one of the men carrying some type of video camera, while the other one was holding a bat in one hand and a knife in the other. Kinley shoved the chubby ursine beside the burning can before he whistled loudly and pointed at one of the vans sitting idly by the hideout. Three men walked towards the van and opened up the back doors. They hopped inside and grunted as they pulled Kannan out of the vehicle. The weregator grunted as he fell to the ground, but he didn't get up. He lied still, breathing quietly as the human beings stood beside him. One of the men kicked the reptile in the face and spat on him.

"Get up!"

Kannan blinked, and he slowly got back up on his feet. One of the three men shoved Kannan forward, and he quietly walked beside a burnt-down tree, his eyes glued on the ground. Bendis stared at the reptile and huffed.

"Just stay calm, Kannan! We'll be fine!"

"No, you won't," said Kinley matter-of-factly.

Bendis glared at Kinley and growled. "What the hell is this? Why'd you kidnap us? Why'd you murder Kannan's family?!"

"Oh, I didn't do that. Well, not his whole family--I just killed his wife. But, uh, I have this...this special friend of mine, and he knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a monster, just like that disgusting thing over there."

"Wh...you're saying there's another anthro out there like Kannan?"

"Yep. Killed his daughter. Got hungry afterwards and had fun ripping his wife to shreds. But I'm sure you saw all that when you came into his house."

Bendis stared at Kinley and shook his head. "What are we: just walking, talking piles of meat?"

"No. You're trash covered in fur and scales. And I'm a sanitation engineer. You get what I'm saying?"

"No, I don't. If you hate us so much, then you wouldn't have let one of us, err, 'monsters' kill that family of human beings. You wouldn't have murdered a human being yourself. Don't you dare stand there and give me that--"

Bendis grunted when Kinley bashed him against the jaw with his fist. Bendis shut his eyes and exhaled before he spat on the ground and stared at Kinley again.

"I grow tired of your words, trash. Just stand still and be quiet."

Kinley turned away from the panda bear and headed back into his hideout. As he disappeared into the dark building, Bendis breathed heavily and looked at all the human beings around him. He could see five--three crowding Kannan, the other two beside him. Most of them were only carrying bats or knives, nothing high-tech or from the military. He could tell they were all thugs, scum who lived on the street and took pleasure in tormenting anyone they came across. The ursine grunted and tried to move his paws away, but they were both bound tightly with rope. Kannan had his hands tied behind his back too, but Bendis could tell that he changed. The men standing beside him were laughing at him, taunting him, spitting on his body. Kannan didn't even flinch. He still had his head down, his eyes stuck to the ground. He blinked once and let out a small whimper before one of the men shoved him. Kannan nearly fell on the ground, stumbling over some of the rocks before another man bashed him against the legs with his baseball bat. The weregator fell on the ground again, grunting and whining as he lied still.

"This is the guy who killed Duncan and Shepard?"

"Li'l punk can't even take a smash to the legs! Hoss is gonna tear him up!"

The same man with the bat smashed his weapon against Kannan's head this time, causing the weregator to shout. Another man planted his boot into his face and started to kick at him excessively, to the point where he almost kicked out one of his teeth.

"Get the fuck offa him!"

The panda bear charged and tried to help Kannan, but he shouted and fell to his side when one of the thugs smashed their bat against his temple. Bendis groaned as he lied in the dirt and slowly rolled onto his back, coughing as his paws brushed against more glass.

"That's enough! We still need him alive--Hoss needs to have a go at him!"

Bendis grunted as he sat up, noticing Kinley dressed in his usual jean jacket and ripped pants. But the panda bear wasn't focused on the leader of the street gang. He was paying more attention to the giant anthro walking beside him, with chains wrapped around his paws and footpaws. He knew he was looking at a rat, but the creature was larger and bulkier than normal rats, more dangerous and primal-looking. He looked no different than Kannan after he transformed; he was a humongous anthro, drooling at the mouth and sporting several vicious claws and teeth. Kinley looked back at the giant rat as he guided him over to the group of men standing beside the weregator.

"Now this--this is somethin' I just gotta see! Two of you monsters at each other's throats. A fight to the death! It'll be like a gladiators match--this shit's gonna be awesome!"

"...You have your own were-creature...thingy? That's the guy that killed Kannan's daughter?"

"Uh, no. That was a wolf."

Bendis' eyes grew wide. "There's a third creature out there. Th...the three--"

"I don't really care how many of them are out there. All that matters is my little pet right here. Stand him up guys!"

The three men standing beside Kannan hauled the weregator back up to his feet while Bendis grunted and started to tug on the ropes again, feeling blood running down his paws. As Kannan stood up, one of the men took his knife and cut off the ropes his hands were tied to. Kinley undid the chains around Hoss' paws and footpaws, feeling the rodent's body heat and listening to him growl softly. The rat looked down at the ground as the chains fell before he hissed and stared at Kannan. The weregator slowly turned around and flicked his eyes at the rat before he stared at the ground again. Kinley smacked his hand against Hoss' back and grinned widely.

"Go on, Hoss! Have a go at him!"

The brown rat breathed heavily as he looked at Kinley and struggled to speak.

"Ki...k-kill?"

"Yes, Hoss. Kill him. Feel free to devour his corpse afterwards."

Hoss chuckled evilly as he stared at the weregator and wagged his plump tail. The rat walked over to the scaly creature, his large footpaws leaving prints in the ground and causing faint tremors. Kannan flicked his eyes up at Hoss, only to find himself grunting when the massive rodent punched him in the snout. Kannan stumbled, but he still managed to stay on his feet until Hoss punched him in the torso next, sending him down to his knees. Bendis panted and swore softly to himself as he saw the rat abusing Kannan. All the humans around him were either cheering Hoss on or calling Kannan vulgar slurs, laughing with delight as Hoss assaulted him with no effort. Kinley put his hands in his pockets before he walked back over to Bendis and scoffed at him.

"Sit back and watch the show. Once it's over, we'll start on you next. Tell me, would you prefer if I split your head open, or just cut it off completely?"

Bendis didn't answer. He scrunched up his face a few times as he felt more glass around his paws. He made sure he didn't move too much, otherwise Kinley would notice that he was trying to cut his ropes with a shard of glass.

Jerald didn't breathe. He didn't move or so much as lean against the mattress. The young man heard the footsteps growing louder, close by. Whoever was inside the house sniffed and paused, fiddling with his weapon and muttering to himself. The creature stepped inside the bedroom and exhaled, moving his paw along the wall to try and find the light switch. He grunted when he stepped forward and tripped over one of Jerald's boots, nearly dropping his gun in the process. Jerald let out a quiet breath as he took two tiny steps forward. He could faintly make out the beast in front of him; he imagined a heavyset creature, all muscle and bulk, capable of tearing his spine out without any effort. The creature found the light switch and flipped it up. Jerald acted swiftly, standing up and sprinting towards the skinny African wild dog. The canine gasped and aimed his gun at Jerald one second too late. Jerald shouted as he slammed into the dog, pinning him against the wall. A shot rang out, the sound muffled by the thin silencer wrapped around the end of the pistol.

Both creatures started to shout and whimper as they fought over the gun, paws and hands tussling over the black firearm. Jerald grabbed the dog's wrists and squeezed hard, panting as he tried to smack the gun away. The African wild dog snarled as he lunged at the human being, biting him so hard on his right arm that he drew blood. Jerald shouted and grunted as the dog punched him in the face, knocking him to the floor. As the man sat up, he lashed out at the canine as he waved his gun at him. The African wild dog shouted as he was kicked by Jerald, his back slamming into the wall. Another gunshot went off, the bullet soaring through the floor. Jerald forced himself back up and punched the dog in the face four times before he grabbed his gun and tried to pry it from his fingers. The dog bashed his head against Jerald's before Jerald shouted and bit down on his fingers. The man lifted his left arm and shoved it against the dog's neck, slowly choking him and watching as he gagged. Jerald lifted his hands and shoved his thumbs against the dog's eyes, causing the canine to shout vociferously and slowly slide down to the floor. Jerald kneed the dog in the groin and he whimpered.

The dog dropped his gun. Jerald immediately crouched down and grabbed the gun, backing away and panting as he pointed it at the dog. The canine coughed a few times before he rubbed his eyes and sniffled, feeling blood running down his nostrils. The assailant panted as he started to stand up.

"SIT DOWN!" Jerald roared.

The dog stared at the man and blinked. He slowly sat back down on the floor and took a few quiet breaths as he raised his paws in the air.

"Let-Let's not be rash--"

"Don't talk. J-just..." Jerald panted a few times and ran a hand through his hair. He saw the dog slowly rising again and pointed the handgun at his cranium. "Stay down! What the hell are you doing here? Why are you tryin' to kill me--where the hell is Bendis and Kannan?!"

"I-I was sent here, those were my orders, and they're safe for now."

Jerald huffed. "Who are you?"

"Uh, um, F-Fenkar. I'm just...I was sent here so, um, I-I could kill you. I'm just following orders--"

"Someone ordered you to murder a goddamn truck driver?"

Fenkar huffed. "He's not taking any chances."

"...It's that shark ain't it? That asshole who came here the other day pretending to be a cop?"

Fenkar didn't answer. He glanced away and started to stare at the floor.

"Answer me!"

"...You've no idea what you got yourself into."

"Stop with the whole edgy, dramatic, crime movie bullshit! Just..."

Jerald backed away and rubbed his head with frustration. He shut his eyes for a moment, but the second he opened them back up, Fenkar was on his footpaws.

"HEY!"

Fenkar raised his paws again and sat down. "This-this is just...it's my task. All I'm doing is finishing my job. It-it's not my fault--"

"--that you tried to murder me in my home? That my friend is in danger?! You said Bendis and Kannan are still safe--where the hell are they then?"

Fenkar slowly shook his head. "I can't tell you that."

"You're more afraid of some shark than you are of a man who's pointing a gun in your face?"

"You don't know him like I do. Yo-you aren't aware of all the shit he's done--"

Jerald fired a bullet beside the dog's head, causing Fenkar to yelp.

"You tell me where they are!"

Fenkar shut his eyes and placed his head against the wall. He slowly shook it and exhaled. "Okay...al-all right, fine. Just...don't kill me."

"Where are they?"

Fenkar sighed. "Kinley has them. Kinley Jessup. He's located at his hideout, probably with the rest of his gang."

"And that hideout is...?"

"Not far from the abandoned factory on Chakmin Street. It's a condemned apartment building. It's all broken down, near a bunch of drug dens."

"That's not very specific."

"That's all I know. You're gonna have to find them on your own once you get there."

"How do I know that-that they're not dead already?"

"You don't. Kinley's the one who's been murdering all those anthros, the ones they've been talking about on the news."

Jerald paused. "You gave Bendis and Kannan to a psychopath who burned a young dog alive not even a week ago?!"

"I told you...it-it's all just orders."

"You fucking--"

Jerald walked towards Fenkar and pointed the gun in-between his eyes. Fenkar whimpered and started to shake.

"Please! I-I'm just...they just tell me to do things--if I don't do them, they'll kill me! You have to understand that--I'm just doing what they tell me! I'm fo-I'm following orders! Please..."

Jerald was tempted to shoot the dog, until he noticed that the weight of the handgun was beginning to feel heavy. He could see Fenkar's eyes becoming watery and watched as the dog started to shake uncontrollably. He shook his head slowly, hoping the human being would spare his life. Jerald gritted his teeth and inhaled sharply. He let go of the trigger and raised his gun high before bashing it against Fenkar's skull, knocking him out. Jerald huffed with exasperation before he looked down at the dog's body. He was tempted to shoot him anyway, just to be sure. But every fiber in his body wouldn't go through with it, despite his brain telling him that it was the most logical thing to do. The man put the handgun in his pocket before he started to pant heavily. He grabbed his boots and hurriedly put them back on before snatching his cell phone off the nightstand. Jerald slid the phone into his pocket and sprinted for the front door, hoping he'd find Bendis and Kannan before it was too late.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Kannan was lying on the ground, his body bruised and his face bloody. The weregator moaned and rolled over onto his stomach, coughing up more blood before Hoss kicked him in his sides a few times. The wererat jumped on top of Kannan and started to punch him in the back of the head, laughing deeply as he shoved his snout into a puddle of ash and urine. Kannan coughed and spluttered briefly before the rodent got off Kannan and snarled at him. The weregator slowly lifted his head and crawled forward a few inches before he lied down beside one of the tree stumps. He blinked and lied still before Hoss rolled the reptile's body over and got on top of him. The three men weren't cheering or laughing anymore. They were groaning or sitting down, looking at the fight with boredom in their eyes. Hoss got on top of Kannan and started to punch him in the face multiple times, slamming his fist into his snout, his jaw, his eye socket, growling and snorting with irritation as Kannan lied still.

"GET! UP! FIGHT! BACK!"

One of Kinley's thugs sat on a ratty lawn chair and sighed deeply as he relaxed himself. "Boss...this is getting boring now. Can we just kill him and get it over with?"

"Wait a little longer! Just give him some time--he'll fight back soon enough."

Bendis scowled as he watched the three men observing the one-sided fight like it was a game of football. The panda bear flicked his eyes at Kinley before he grunted and continued to cut at the rope with the glass, hoping his facial expressions wouldn't give away what he was doing.

"Guess that monster has been broken. Suppose he's lost his will to live now. Shame...here I thought I was expecting to see that creature at his full potential."

"Why are you doing this? You hate us anthros that much?"

"No. I hate garbage. I hate you...you things stinking up this town. I hate you creatures eating all our food, unable to control yourselves. I hate you stealing our jobs, how you speak to us, how you treat us--every single fuckin' thing about you anthros. You do nothing to contribute to this society."

Bendis chuckled. "Let me guess: your, uh, your daddy raped you. Your mommy left you. You got bullied in school. You got screwed out of your job. So now you live on the streets, wandering around murdering us anthros because you're angry. That sound about right?"

Kinley merely grinned. "My childhood--"

"Oh, what? I touch a nerve? I say something you didn't wanna hear?"

"What happened to me is of no concern to you."

"At the very least, admit that you're just doing this because you feel like it. You're just killing anthros and spouting all this nonsense that we're evil and that we're going to eradicate you human beings because you need 'friends.' You need other people to believe the bullshit that comes out your mouth, like those clowns over there."

Kinley huffed and rolled his eyes. "Okay then. You're right. There's no traumatic childhood incident that drove me to do this. I just hate you anthros. Hated you as a kid. Hated you as a teenager. Hate you as an adult. You things--you're, you're just animals. You belong in cages--that or hanging from the walls of humans' cabins as trophies, or clad on our backs, or secured to our feet. That's all you _animals_are: things we humans use for our own personal gain. Sooner or later, my race will finally understand. They'll finally see that you creatures are just animals who need to be beaten and locked in cages forever. That or served between two buns and with a side order of chips and soda."

Bendis looked away from the man as he resumed cutting at the rope; he figured he was at least halfway there. Kinley glanced down at the bear before he moved his arm above his head and snatched the green cap off his head. Bendis shouted and tried to stand up when the bald man placed the cap on his head.

"You don't have lice or fleas or nothin', do you?"

"GIVE IT BACK!!"

"Mmmmmmm, no. I like it."

"I like it too. Give it back."

"And what if I don't?"

"I'm gonna tackle you to the ground and bite out your jugular. Give. Back. My. Hat."

"You're gonna be dead in another five or ten minutes. You have no need for this hat anyway. So stay down and shut your fuckin' mouth."

Bendis stared at Kannan and could see that Hoss was still beating the weregator to a pulp. He couldn't help him--not with the ropes bound to his wrists. He had to get free before it was too late, try to find help or try to subdue all the thugs before they murdered him. And he had to get his hat back. That was paramount. Bendis panted and gritted his teeth as he used the glass as a saw, quickly slicing through the nylon. The blood was dripping down his fingers and falling onto the ground beside his legs. He stared at Kannan and frowned. The weregator waited patiently. He waited for all the pain to stop. He waited until his body grew cold and he was finally reunited with his family, and no longer stuck inside his horrific body. The weregator shut his eyes as Hoss bit down on his arm, tearing off a chunk of his flesh. He felt the pain, but it was no different from all the punches, kicks, and lacerations he had suffered from moments ago. He was waiting for the rat to go in for the kill, put an end to it all.

And then something inside Kannan snapped. It was brief at first, but then Kannan felt his heartbeat slowing down. He felt the human part of his soul slipping away. The weregator grunted and snarled as he started to salivate and emitted a gurgling growl. Kannan's body cracked a few times, and then the creature no longer felt the pain. He felt ire, an unstoppable amount of it. The reptile lashed out at Hoss' left paw and grabbed his fingers. Before the rodent had time to figure out what was happening, Kannan was opening his maw and biting down on his paw. Hoss shouted twice as he saw blood dripping down. And then he roared in agony as three of his fingers were removed from his paw. Hoss shouted as he got off the reptile and sat down hard, breathing heavily and moaning as he saw the crimson running down his paw. Kannan snarled as he munched on the fingers and swallowed, and then he stepped in front of Hoss and roared viciously, spewing hot breath and thick spittle from his maw. One of the thugs sighed with relief and stood up.

"Finally! This douchebag's fighting back!"

"You got the camera ready?"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm filming it."

The three thugs all watched with delight as the alligator started to fight off the wererat. Hoss whimpered and stood up, only to find himself shouting when Kannan lashed at his face with his claws. He scratched him across the chest and torso, digging right through to the flesh. Hoss snorted as he tried to lash back with the claws on his right paw, but Kannan veered his head backwards and dodged the attacks. Kannan snarled and swiped his claws at him again, maiming his right eyeball and tearing off a portion of his face. Two of the thugs said "oooooooh!" in a loud voice while the third one winced and backed away. Kinley and the other two thugs beside Bendis kept staring at the fight, with the former grinning as Kannan started to beat the rat with all the pent-up anger and hatred in his body. Bendis shut his eyes and groaned as he gripped the glass tightly and sawed through the last bit of nylon. He opened his eyes and gasped, his paws free. He kept them behind his back and looked up at Kinley and his precious green hat.

"I'm gonna ask you one last time: gimme my hat back."

Kinley walked over to the panda bear and crouched down. "And I'm gonna tell you one last time: shut the fuck up--"

Kinley yelped when Bendis whipped his paws around, using the small piece of glass to slice Kinley's face. The bear got on his footpaws and grabbed Kinley as the man took out a knife. Both of them lifted their arms into the air, grunting and shouting as they tried to grab the weapon. Bendis lowered his right arm and grabbed Kinley's face, and then he shoved his entire body against him, pushing him so hard that Kinley shouted and tripped over a stump. One of the other thugs standing beside them jumped in, only for Bendis to bash him in the nose and break it. The thug grunted and took a gun out of his pocket; Bendis reached for it and the two started to tussle for it. Bendis panted and whimpered, the two creatures almost tripping over their own feet. The panda bear noticed that the gun was pointed at him; he spun his body around, grunting as he aimed for the trio mesmerized by the werebeasts brawling. He jammed his plump fingers around the trigger and squeezed four times, hitting one of the men twice and narrowly missing the other two. Then he jerked the arm around and squeezed the trigger again, hitting another thug charging for him in the throat. The survivors shouted and stood up from their seats, taking out their weapons as they rushed towards the panda bear.

Kannan, however, was longing for more meat. And he saw two giant pieces of them running towards Bendis. He got off Hoss and sprinted for one of the men, roaring as he pounced on one of them. The man hollered as Kannan dug his claws into his back, ripping through his shirt and puncturing his skin. He lowered his jaw and bit down on the human being's head, clamping down and applying so much pressure that the skull began to crack. The thug gurgled as blood erupted from his mouth, and then his skull shattered. As Hoss tried to recover from his wounds, Bendis head-butted the thug he was fighting and punched him in the stomach so hard that he damaged his solar plexus. The man fell down, and Bendis snatched the handgun from him. He aimed for the thug about to slam a bat against Kannan's head when Kinley ran into the panda bear from behind. Both creatures shouted as Bendis took a few steps forward, swearing when he stepped on more glass and tripped. The two creatures fell down and the gun went off, hitting one of the thugs in the leg. Kinley raised his knife, and Bendis shouted as the thug planted it in his midriff.

Jerald stopped his truck and hopped outside. He started panting as he slammed the door shut and began to run around the narrow, filthy alleyways. The man heard a few cans clattering before he stumbled across a group of anthros who were all standing beside a barrel filled with burning garbage. Jerald turned around and took a quick left, running a few yards before he stumbled upon a dead end. Jerald huffed and turned back around, sprinting in the opposite direction before he ended up back on the street beside his truck.

"Kannan! Bendis!"

Jerald panted a few more times before he took the alleys on the right side of the street. He ended up lost in another network of alleyways, the pavement littered with puddles of urine, empty beer bottles, broken glass, and a few used syringes Jerald was praying didn't puncture his boots. He stepped on a few glass shards before stopping and listening to someone's laughter.

"BENDIS!"

The human heard more laughter and looked inside a building. He found a shirtless lemur missing half his teeth sitting down beside a wall with graffiti on it, his arms covered with holes.

"Hey! You-you see a panda bear anywhere? Uh, uh--giant alligator, giant fat bear? D'you see anyone?"

"Big booooooooy...big boy down...down the Death Lanes. Walkin' down the Death Lanes!"

Jerald huffed. "Where are the Death Lanes?"

The lemur chuckled and wiggled his fingers. "Go up the ass...f-follow the shit!"

Jerald stared at the lemur and raised an eyebrow. "Uhhhhh, I'm not into that..."

"Follow! M-move--move down...move down--follow the-the shit..."

"...Down? What--south! Go south?!"

The lemur nodded. "S'where shit goes; s'where it comes from!"

"Got it. Thanks!"

Jerald turned to his left and started to run again, breathing heavily as he tried to ignore any of the drug addicts and possible drug dealers who were stowing away in the condemned buildings or sitting alongside the alleyways. Jerald was running for almost five minutes straight when he realized he forgot to do the obvious. The man stopped running and stood against a brick wall, panting as he took out his cell phone and dialed 911.

"911, what's your emergency?"

"Yeah, uh--" Jerald huffed and exhaled. "I'm on Chakmin Street. I'm-I'm stuck in the alleyways...um..." Jerald exhaled again. "I-I think I saw that-that guy."

"What guy, sir?"

"The man who's been murdering all these anthros! He-he's down here! I...I think he has a gun. He's got people with him--I think they're about to kill again. Christ, you gotta get down here now! I don't know--"

Jerald stopped talking and flicked his eyes to the left when he heard two gunshots not far from his position.

"You don't know what, sir? Hello? Hello?!"

Jerald hung up the phone. The cops knew what they needed to know. He couldn't wait for them to show up. He had to go after them himself.

"BENDIS!"

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Kinley and Bendis were wrestling over the handgun. Kinley elbowed the bear in the face while the panda bear quickly crawled forward and picked up a shard of glass. He lashed at Kinkey's leg from behind, slicing at his Achilles tendon. While the two creatures fought, Kannan finished tearing a dead thug's chest cavity open and sticking his snout inside, retrieving the heart with his bare teeth. The thug who had been shot in the leg was struggling to limp away, knowing he had no chance against the weregator. Kannan tilted his head backwards and let the bloody heart flow down his gullet, gulping hard as the juicy organ started to enter his stomach. Kannan roared and sprinted after the limping thug, his footsteps rocking the earth each time he stomped forward. The thug glanced behind his shoulder and saw Kannan mere feet away. He panted as he frantically took out his knife, but it did him no good. Kannan grabbed the man from behind and started to place his fingers into his eye sockets. The man shouted at first before he heard a loud crunch and was permanently blinded. He shrieked as vocally as possible as Kannan shoved a meaty finger into each of the man's eye sockets, pressing down so hard that the eyeballs exploded and blood and other fluids began to dribble out.

Kannan used his other hand to grab the man's jaw, which he stretched downwards so far that the joint between the mandible and temporal bone snapped in half with audible pops. The man continued to shriek until he found himself gurgling as more blood spewed from his eyes. And then there was a squelching crunch as Kannan used all his strength to tear the jaw right off the man's head. He removed his fingers and dropped the jaw, shortly before he slammed the human being to the ground and bellowed as he stomped on the back of his head over and over again. His powerful feet were a sledgehammer slamming down onto an egg, and once it cracked, all the fluids splashed everywhere and left a messy, bloody puddle. Still wounded and blind in one eye, Hoss got off the ground and snarled as he charged for Kannan, while the other creatures nearby were still wrestling around on the ground. Bendis finally had the gun and panted as he tried to jerk it around to fire off more shots. He squeezed the trigger again, the bullets ringing out twice, before Bendis tossed the gun forward when Kinley tried to grab it.

The panda bear elbowed Kinley in the nose three times before shoving his body off of his. As Kinley lied on the ground groaning, Bendis saw the last thug limping towards him with another knife in hand. Bendis quickly jerked his arm to the left and swiped Kinley's knife off the ground. Seconds later, he shouted as he lifted his paw and stabbed the other thug in the knee once he got close. The man shouted as he collapsed to his knees and toppled over onto his stomach. Bendis didn't give him the chance to get back up. He crawled on top of him and snarled as he started to stab him in the back multiple times, watching as the blade punctured his skin and tore through all the flesh and grazed a few bones. While Bendis was stabbing the thug, Kannan was having no trouble dealing with Hoss. The wererat had the upper hand for a moment, but when Kannan grabbed his face and ran his claws down, he sliced his left eyeball in half. Hoss squealed and began to whine as he started to swing his arms around arbitrarily, only making contact with the wind. Kannan growled and wagged his tail as he watched the blood running down his face.

And then he tackled him down and ran his serrated claws against his midriff, tearing the stomach open and exposing his intestinal lining. Hoss only had a few more moments to scream before Kannan opened his mouth wide and bit down on his throat. The rat gurgled and groaned as blood poured out of his mouth. Meanwhile, Kannan growled and slurped as he pulled on the rat's neck, ripping through his fur and flesh with his teeth. Torrents of blood sprayed out as Kannan removed a large portion of the neck, including the larynx and part of his trachea. Hoss gurgled and vomited up blood as he started to grow weak. Kannan was still blinded by his fury, however, and wasted no time tearing more chunks of flesh from the wererat's body. As he feasted on the wererat, Kinley crawled over to the gun and grabbed it. Bendis shouted and tackled him, shoving him against one of the burnt cars with shattered glass resting beside it. Kinley jerked his head backwards and smashed Bendis in the muzzle. Then he elbowed him in his stab wound, making him back away for a brief moment as he held his sides. Kinley spun around and aimed at the panda bear. Bendis sprinted for the man again.

But Kinley fired first. Bendis stopped running and grunted softly. He thought someone punched him at first, but he knew better. The panda bear took a few small breaths before he coughed. He walked backwards and wheezed, finding trouble breathing. He backed up towards one of the burnt trees and coughed again. Bendis struggled to breathe as he grasped his chest and felt sticky fluids running down his right paw. The panda bear whimpered as he gradually slid down to the ground, sitting down and breathing softly. Kinley pointed his gun at Bendis again and fired. All he heard was an annoying click. He squeezed the trigger again. Click. He tried a third time, and heard the same click. Kinley huffed and tossed the gun on the ground, limping towards Bendis with a grin on his face. He reached down his right leg and grabbed his machete, slowly pulling the deadly weapon from its sheath.

"Y'know, I usually...I usually don't use this blade very often. Defeats the purpose of it--turns it into another common tool."

Bendis stared at Kinley as he waved the machete in his face and raised it into the air.

"I guess I can make--OW, FUCK!!"

Kinley dropped his machete. And then he grunted when someone fired a bullet into his right shoulder. Jerald sprinted towards the grisly scene as fast as he could, firing the handgun at Kinley as many times as possible. But despite firing off six shots, he only managed to hit Kinley in the shoulder and graze his stomach. Kinley groaned as he grabbed his torso; he raised his left hand to try and signal Jerald to stop, but by then, Jerald had a clear shot of him. Kinley screamed and started to shake once he looked at his hand and noticed one finger was gone, and another one was hanging limply from his hand. Kinley shouted and fell to his knees, clutching his bleeding hand as he shook and tried not to go into shock. The tattooed man gasped and looked up, watching as Jerald calmly walked up towards him and pointed Fenkar's gun at his face. Jerald pulled the trigger again, only to hear two clicks. The man flicked his eyes to the ground and saw Kinley's fallen machete. Jerald tossed the gun aside and snatched it off the ground before Kinley could. Kinley shut his eyes and huffed with defeat while Jerald looked around the area with wide eyes.

"Oh my God..."

Bendis had slouched over and was lying on the ground, breathing more slowly as he tried to keep his eyes open. Five of the thugs were dead, some of their bodies mutilated by Kannan. And the weregator was still over Hoss' body, smacking and slurping noisily as he pulled the rat's innards from his stomach and began to devour them. Jerald flicked his eyes down at Kinley and saw the man snickering.

"L-look! Look at--look at what they did to us! You see them, human? They-they're animals! They're monsters!"

"...You're the man who killed all those anthros."

Kinley grinned eerily and nodded. "Th-that's right! I did it for us! I-I-I was protecting the-the human race! I'm protecting the future of our race!"

"You hacked off a panther's arms and legs, and then you hung him from a tree. You kidnapped a young dog and later burned him to death while he was walking home from a goddamn bus stop."

"Of course I did! If-If I hadn't, they would've turned against us! They-they would've killed us! They're gonna slaughter the human race! But-but-but me? No, no, no--I-I want to preserve us humans! Make us live in a world with-without those wretched beasts!"

Kinley giggled softly as he pointed at Kannan with his maimed left hand. "Look at him! Look at the way he feasts! He-he's an animal--a monster that needs to be put down! He's gonna kill me, then come and kill you! But...but you can end it. Stop him! Kill the panda bear too--he-he helped that reptile cause all this! C'mon...d-do it."

Jerald stared at the primeval beast still munching on Hoss' flesh. Then he looked down at the wounded man and stared at his unnerving grin and his bleeding hand.

"Do it! Kill him! Kill the monster!"

Jerald blinked and gripped the machete tightly. "Oh, trust me. I'm going to."

"THEN HURRY UP AND DO IT! He's gonna kill us! He's gonna murder all of us humans! Kill him! Stop him! You-you have to hurry before it's too late! KILL THE--"

Kinley shut his mouth when Jerald split his skull in half with the machete. At first, there was silence. Then Jerald started to breathe heavily when he stared at the man and realized what he had done. He heard a muffled trickling noise and glanced down at Kinley's pants, noticing that his bladder had just voided. Jerald panted as he removed the machete with a squelching crunch. Kinley's body remained still for a moment, and then it slouched over and fell on its side. Jerald inhaled sharply as he swung the machete a second time, slicing through the man's sides. He didn't know why he did it, but something in his mind told him to do so. He swung the machete again, slicing through Kinley's left cheek. Panting, Jerald grunted and swung the machete at Kinley a fourth time, nearly hacking off his left arm. The man didn't know what was coming over him, but he suddenly found himself hacking away at Kinley's body over and over again, gritting his teeth and shouting as he chopped Kinley's body into various large chunks. Jerald didn't even care that blood was splattering all over his body and getting into his face. All that mattered to him was mutilating Kinley's corpse as much as possible.

By the time he finished, Jerald was breathing heavily and trying to rub some of the blood from his face. He sniffled and stared at Kinley's body with wide eyes. The machete slipped from his hand, clattering on the ground near what was left of the human being's body. Jerald stepped away and whimpered. He almost felt like throwing up as he stared at the damage he caused.

"Jerald..."

The man gasped as he saw Kannan stepping towards him, the gator covered in as much blood as he was. Jerald pointed at Kinley's body with a shaky hand and stammered.

"I just...he--"

"It's okay. He deserved it."

"But I--"

"You did me a favor. I would've torn him to shreds if...if you hadn't."

Jerald let out a few shaky breaths before he gagged and tried to keep his bile down. "What...what happened? I thought you and Bendis found your family?"

"My family's dead."

Jerald's eyes grew wide. "What!"

"That man right there? He came into my home, killed my wife. And then he stepped aside as he let a wolf...a-a creature like me, enter my home, and rip my daughter apart while she was sleeping in her bed."

Jerald didn't know what to say. If anything, he was on the verge of falling to his knees and letting a torrent of tears flow from his eyes. He whimpered and covered his mouth, his eyes already becoming watery. Jerald slowly shook his head as he stared at the weregator and his sullen expression.

"I'm sor--"

"Don't." Kannan shook his head. "You didn't cause this. You didn't murder my family. You've nothing to be sorry about."

Jerald was about to say something else when he heard the police sirens in the distance, their whooping noises very faint in the wind. Jerald sniffled and exhaled as he shook his head.

"So what now?"

"I'm leaving."

"Where? You can't just leave, Kannan. There--"

"My family is dead. I have no job now. I can't go home--not when I look like this. You and I both know that the cops will think I did it. And I'm trapped in this body...I'm not sure if I can even return to normal anymore."

"You can't give up, Kannan!"

Kannan shrugged. "I'm not giving up. I just don't really care anymore."

Jerald had to force himself not to cry. Kannan didn't even look sad. All Jerald saw in the weregator's eyes was boredom and acceptance, as if he was fine being a giant creature that everyone would label as a monster. He blinked and wiped some of the blood from his mouth before he turned and prepared to run in the other direction.

"Wait," said Jerald, his voice cracking.

Kannan stopped and turned around. "Hmm?"

"...Will we see each other again?"

The gator shrugged nonchalantly. "You have a nice life, Jerald. ...It was good spending time with you and Bendis."

Jerald didn't say anything more. He stood idly by and watched as Kannan ran off into one of the alleys and disappeared in the darkness. The human being took a few short breaths before he sobbed quietly, trying to stay calm as he attempted to ease his mind. He couldn't tell if he wanted to vomit or break down crying. Kannan was on the run, he was surrounded by dead bodies--one of which he was responsible for--and his best friend had been shot. Jerald hadn't even realized the bear was on the ground yet--he was fixated on Kannan and trying to keep him from leaving. The man panted as he rushed towards him, crouching down as he started to lift the bear's head and tried to lift his body.

"Oh my God...hey, c'mon, buddy. Wake up! Y-you're fine--this...this is..."

Jerald whimpered and shook Bendis a few times, hoping he'd suddenly wake back up. It didn't take long before the panda bear coughed and slowly began to move his eyelids. He mumbled as his cloudy vision began to clear up. Bendis blinked twice as he looked up at Jerald. And then he slowly examined the grisly scene around him and huffed.

"Where's my hat?"

Jerald let out a noise that was a cross between a cough and a chuckle. He smiled as he looked down at the bear, eyes misty. "Are you serious?"

Bendis flashed a shit-eating grin at the human being. Jerald laughed again before he crawled on the ground and acquired the bear's green cap. He placed it on his head backwards before he got on his knees and held his head up again.

"Thanks...where's Kannan?"

"I don't know. He, um...he ran off. I don't...he'll be fine, buddy. You'll be fine. See? Th-the cops are coming--they probably got ambulances too!"

Bendis blinked slowly and sighed. "I'm tired, Jerald...I just wanna go to sleep."

The panda bear started to close his eyes. Jerald gritted his teeth and shook him.

"Don't. You're fuckin' fine. Just stay awake. You understand? You're fuckin' fine!"

"...It'll be a quick nap, buddy...that's all. It's only a nap...a short one."

"Shut up! You're gonna be fine, Bendis! Just stay awake!" shouted Jerald, his voice breaking.

"Let me sleep, Jerald...just let me go to sleep..."

Jerald watched as Bendis slowly closed his eyes. And then he went very still. The man stared at Bendis for a brief moment, letting the sound of all the sirens fill his ears as the police and ambulances got closer to their location. He shook Bendis twice as a tear ran down his left cheek.

"Bendis? Hey...hey, just...you--just...wake up."

Jerald sobbed as he shook the bear's body again, hoping to wake up his friend. But he still didn't budge.

"You can't do this to me. Please don't...please wake up..."

Jerald kept muttering to himself as he stared at the bear's body. He still didn't move. There was nothing Jerald could do at that point. He took a few deep breaths and whined as more tears began to fall down his face. And then Jerald sobbed as he held his head in his arms, knowing that the bear wasn't going to open his eyes.
