#4 of How I Came to Love My Best Friend

Sorry for being absent for so long, but life finally gave me the chance to get this out for you guys. I'll try my best to post whenever I can!

This story picks up the morning after Mark and Luke's first time together and progresses from that point. I hope you enjoy the story, thanks for reading, and have a great day!

Tuesday, September 5, 2022:

"I know! Isn't this cool?!...Yeah, I just hope he doesn't find out about that...Not about you, about her...Gotcha, let's talk later then?...Fine I'll send you the video as proof!" was what I heard and I groaned, slowly waking up. It was like 9 in the morning: I didn't have a class to teach until 1 PM. I was pretty upset that Luke would wake me up like this and was talking about me to someone else, but my thoughts went out the window when he brought breakfast for me.

"Hey, cutie. How's my favorite wolf?"

"I'm fine. Thanks for asking."

"Awesome," he handed me the tray of pancakes with some orange juice, "Still your favorite, right?"

"YES! You remembered?!"

"How could I forget?" the husky smiled at me, letting me feel loved.

"You're acting as if I'm special..."

"You _are_special! And you're also mine. Which reminds me, I have a surprise for you, so eat quickly!"

I had a feeling something was up with him. He had been talking on the phone to people since we first reunited, but now that I was sure there was no one else, I was certain he had to be talking about me. I rushed my eating, but commented, "By giving me pancakes beforehand, I have a feeling this will be moderately to extremely embarrassing."

"Maybe," he smiled.

"Now I'm sure," I answered, placing the tray off to the side, "What is it?"

"Oh, it's nothing! Don't be silly!"

"Whatever it is, I promise I won't freak out, but tell me."

"Fine. I have something to admit..."

"Okay..." I braced myself for whatever shock was bound to come.

"So...I might have been talking to some people about what we've been doing together. Maybe even recording it..."

"Are you serious?" I jumped back, scared at these supposed "recordings" he had of me. I suspected something, but nothing that drastic.

"Well, I have the cameras set up in the living room..."

"Please don't tell me you have any in your room!"

"And in my bedroom...and shower."

A chill ran through my body as I came to the realization that everything we did last night had been recorded and distributed. I couldn't believe it: I was dumbfounded. I asked nervously, "Did you sell it or something?"

"NO! I love you, Mark! It wasn't about that...it was, well, for mutual friends," he explained.

"You mean, someone I know put you up to it?" I asked, still lightheaded, having almost fainted at his original revelation.

"Yes..." he finally felt the pressure of my interrogation, but he uses the excuse of his ringing phone to pat my head and take out the phone to answer it. I shivered in trepidation of what he might have done with this footage as he addressed the caller. To be honest, my heart was still in palpitations.

As Luke spoke, I could hear the distinctive voice of a familiar fox. "Wait, you've been talking to Ricky?!" I yelled loud enough that I knew it would go through the phone, ensuring that I wasn't left out of the conversation.

Luke reluctantly put the call on speaker and I heard him respond, "How's it goin', Mark? It's been a while since college."

I looked at Luke, "Holy shit...you've been sending that stuff to him, weren't you?"

"One other person too. But he gave me the idea," Luke shrugged.

"Well, I sure wanted to see a relationship between my two best friends succeed."

"So do I," I smiled at Luke, almost forgiving him for embarrassing me.

"Then why don't you two come by for lunch one of these days? We could chat for a while," he generously offered.

"Okay. See you, Ricky," Luke answered, wiping the sweat off his brow, thinking his problems were over just as another call came in.

"I just got the video, Luke! Hoooollly shit...I didn't know that Mark would fall for you like that."

I tilted my head, curious, before the image of a certain female leopardess popped into my mind, "Catherine?!"

"Mark?! Uhh...how have you been?"

I smiled happily upon recognizing the voice. I couldn't believe it! It was another of my earliest friends in college, I couldn't forgive myself for never making an effort to connect with her, but I focused on the present, "Okay...you just watched me have sex, didn't you?"

"Yeah, but I saw you with do it with Emilia too so it wasn't that different...oh, wait. I never told you that, did I?"

"Are you kidding me, Luke? Telling Ricky and Cat without clearing it with me?" I berated the blushing husky.

"Aww, don't be mad. He just wanted relationship advice. He thought that I was being too intrusive when all I recommended was to send me a copy of your hard drive!"

"Cat, come on. That is pretty intrusive. Where the hell do you live nowadays? I need to visit soon."

"Miss me? BECAUSE YOU SHOULD AFTER LEAVING ALL YOUR DAMN FRIENDS, YOU IDIOT! Sorry: I had to get that off my chest. Come over: I teach at the university by Luke's place."

"No you don't," I answered in disbelief.

"I think I know where I work, Mark..."

"No, you must be at some other place. There's no way..." I asserted.

"What is it that you're afraid to tell me?"

"I work there."

"Are you fucking serious? Get OUT! You can't be!"

"I'm head of the Physics Department. Didn't you see my horrible speech yesterday?"

"I was sleeping like I always do. Okay, if you don't get that bisexual ass of yours into my music studio at two, I'll cry. And you know how sad I look when I cry."

"Yes, I do. I'll be there, Cat."

"Alright. Bye, Mark and Luke!"

I was conflicted about this revelation. One one hand, I heard back from two of my best friends in the same few minutes, all from having seen video of Luke and I, well, "doing it." On the other hand, Luke never even talked to me about it! Bah, I could never actually be mad at him anyway.

I was speechless after Luke hung up. He tried desperately to initiate conversation, "So..."

"I hate you," I answered jokingly.

"I know...but hey, you love me and you know it!"

"True. And the breakfast made up for this. The fact that I get to see two of my other friends doesn't hurt. I almost forgot about everyone else."

Helping me find some clothes, Luke laughed, "Don't you find it hilarious that all your friends ended up being gay?"

"I knew about you and Ricky, but Cat? I never thought about her in a sexual way," I admitted.

"Well, she's bi like you. But all I hear is 'Bi the way, I'm gay' from both of you."

"Yeah, yeah. You're a real comedian."

"I know! Just watch out for the paparazzi: they're desperate to find out who you are."

"You mean they don't already know?"

"What did you expect here? Research?"

"True. What's the latest buzz?"

"Hmm...you're my latest boy toy according to the tabloids. You also might be blackmailing me according to another. Just...be careful. Tabloids do crazy things, but whatever you do, don't give them what they're looking for."

"Got it. So don't punch anyone?" I laughed.

He smiled in return, "Exactly. Take my car, I'll meet you at the college in a little while. You probably need a quick shower too..."

About two hours later, I had cleaned up and was ready for teaching the lesson. I drove up, grabbed an energy bar, and walked into the white-walled classroom with a minute to spare, "Hello, guys! How are you all doing?" Silence...

"Good talk!" I clapped my paws, warranting a few chuckles from the tired students, "So...did anyone do the homework?" Seven out of the ten students raised their hands and I memorized who sat in what seats and recorded it in my mind, "That's your first grade, so you're starting off well! So, what was your favorite song?"

"Unsustainable, because it sounds like music I actually listen to," the vocal lioness yells.

"Okay...that's probably the best song in terms of science as well! 'In an isolated system, entropy can only increase.' Entropy is the measure of chaos in a system, denoted by..." I won't bore you. I know you're not in it for the physics lessons.

"And that's in a song?!" the lioness' jaw dropped.

"Didn't I tell you I'm not your average teacher?"

"True. What's the homework, bud?"

"Dr. Canisius would work well, in this context, but look up some Newtonian physics in whatever crappy text book the school sold you."

I get another few laughs as I dismiss them, but of course, my guidance class stays behind. "Where to, Doctor?" the wolf asks.

"Change in venue. Let's head over to the music studio this time around."

Walking them over to the main office of the music building, I asked for permission to visit "Mrs. Catherine Ackers" which felt weird simply because I had called her "Cat" for years. The door opened, letting the small group in, but I was pounced on by Cat when I walked in, "Oh, Markie!"

"I haven't heard that nickname in years!" I recollected joyously.

She smiles, "It's been too long. I hear that you've been playing in bars around town according to Luke."

"Yes, I have. But I _do_have a class at the moment."

"Oh, really? That's alright."

The lioness (whose name was Diana) quickly ran to the drum set, but the soft-spoken fox politely asked, "Ms. Ackers? I was in your music theory class today. How do you know Dr. Canisus?"

"He's an old friend. Can I take the credit for being your first crush?" she interrogates.

I blush, "No... Maybe first in college though."

"I'll take that! First college crush, although you totally broke up with me," she laughed, poking fun at our "dating" experience.

"Keep living in that dream, Cat!" I chuckled back.

The fox smiled but looked concernedly at the wolf, "That's cool that you still like each other after breaking up."

I easily pick up on some sort of drama, "Wolf, come over here."

The wolf (who I later learned was named Joe) walks over, "What's wrong?"

"You tell me," I invited.

He looked at the fox, "You told him about it, Edwin?"

The fox replied nervously, "No...I would never..."

The wolf looked back at me, "Well, I'm going through a bad break-up. Ever had one of those?"

"Yep."

"Well, this fox here is just trying to be a good friend, but as bad as it is, I'll be fine. I can get a new TV once I save up some money," he laughed.

"Your ex broke your TV?" I asked, somewhat concerned.

"Yeah, I told you it was bad. We won't get back together, but I'm glad it's over at this point. I didn't need her drama," the wolf walked away with a bit more confidence, but Edwin chased his movements with his eyes.

"Uhh...Edwin? I have a feeling you want more than he knows."

"I do, but he's my friend as I don't want to pressure him or anything!" he twitched nervously.

Cat began to answer, "Well, you could follow him around..." but I interrupted, "Try asking for something simple, like coffee, and move on from there. You'll find out if he has the same feelings about you. If he does, then I'm sure you can settle it yourselves."

"Okay, thanks, Dr. Canisius! This may be out of line, but you sound almost as if you know the situation."

"Mind if I get personal with you for a second?" I ask, not wanting to make him uncomfortable.

"I'm fine. You can tell me," he smiled.

"I'm living that situation at the moment. I was sure that I was straight, but...a certain husky showed me otherwise. Now I can't guarantee anything, but there's always a chance, okay? Believe in yourself."

"I will, Doctor. And thanks for trusting me," the fox blushed cutely as he walked away.

Tired from this morning's events, I signaled to my students that they could leave and Cat walked over to harass me about my newest relationship, "So I see the experience with Emilia made you give up on women."

"Not really, but Luke took advantage of the situation," I admitted.

"Interesting."

"I hear that you're experimenting yourself."

"I am. Art professor upstairs. She's really cute," Cat awkwardly stared into the beyond for a moment.

"I'm glad you found someone," I tap her on the shoulder.

"Ditto! Seeing you bottom for Luke yesterday was SOOO hot!" I blushed and stayed silent as she continued, "He's huge! That must really hurt!"

"It does, but it's worth it."

"Ooh...tell me more..." she begged.

"What? Did they stop publishing whatever erotica you read so you need me to fill the void?" I joked.

"Oh, shut up, wolf!" she smiled, "I still have a crush on you; that's all."

"That's so cute," I grinned.

"Yeah, I know. I'd love to talk, but I have a class in ten minutes. So maybe we can meet up a little later?"

"Yeah, sure. What else am I going to do? Model for Luke for the rest of my life?" I added sarcastically.

"True...well, see you soon!"

As I exited the room, I saw a female German Shepard walk past, hardly noticing my presence even though I was half a foot away from her, "Em...Emili...a?" I ran back into the room with Cat, having a heart attack, "Emilia?! Why is she here?" The encounter with my ex-girlfriend shattered my usual composure.

"She majored in PE, remember?"

"A training coach?" I asked.

"Exactly."

"Oh...if I see her again, I might go insane. Save me, Cat!"

Just then, I heard a voice behind me: "Umm...Mark? Is that you?"

I turned around, "What's up?" I remembered that no one was behind me before, "Oh, come on..."
