Here it is, the contest submission for the sci-fi summer contest (bear in mind I won't win, or that nobody will read it) but I am making more parts to this! Stay tuned and as always.

I crossed the wreckage, the once mighty star ship now lying in pieces. I sighed as I saw the remains of my chair and that of my quarters. I looked for something. I gasped as I found it, something that maybe someone could remember from the ship. A small grey hat that had a slight red stain that I hoped wasn't what I thought it was."Hey! What did ya find up there?" My motley group called from the forest floor. I picked the hat up and leapt down to the group. They saw my hat and questioned where it came from. A tall anthro who was wearing the heavily faded ripped shirt spoke up "I can explain it; I can explain it too well." I began collecting rocks and sticks to make a fire pit and lit the tinder. While another member of the group went to get the logs, the rest of us huddled around the small fire as he began to recall what happened to the Grey Fox.

He took a look at the ship before starting "I woke up, lightly rubbing my head from the sad excuse for a pillow we received. I stretched my arms, my tail extending as I lifted my back off the mat. Jumping off the bunk, I checked the clock and wondered if the captain was up. I walked over to my closet and typed in the outfit we wore, standard bridge wear, and the clothing was cycled until it came into view. I pulled it off the hanger and gave it a quick tug on. My foot-paws fit into the legs, my digigrade legs fitting into the special material, followed by my waist and then my chest. The dark black and white fur tugging a bit as I slid the suit on, but still it went fully on. I grabbed my hat and name tag reading Adam Stuart, my name. I walked out of my cabin and slowly closed the door to keep everyone asleep; it was early enough that the crew quarters door was still locked. I always wondered why they locked the doors but the vent covers were always loose. I climbed up and opened the cover."

The rest of the group listened with intent, even the members who went out for wood listened to him. He had a way of explaining himself and his voice was both commanding yet soothing. I listened, my ears hungry for his side of the story "My lighter frame, perfected from my species of wolf morph, helped me move through the vents with ease. I looked down and saw I was near the bridge. I kept going until I was right behind the captain's chair. She was there, sitting and I thought she was sleeping. I snickered, loosening the bolt and dropping behind her. I was silent, staying quiet until I was right next to her. I leaned in close to her ear and started to tickle the side of her muzzle with my finger. She began to stir and when I saw her eye open I whispered good morning to her she gave a chuckle and licked my muzzle 'A bit early for a wake up call isn't it love?' I walked over to the side and pulled one of the chairs over, sliding over and commenting that she might have wanted a pick-me-up. Sarah, my lovely fox morph wife and captain of her own star travel ship after years of being a co-captain to me, yet the shoe is on the other foot now."

I was a bit surprised at how unprofessional they acted when nobody was around. He went on with the tale "I asked her if anything changed. She shook her head no and went to check the supplies for the ship. 'Inventory check is done; we need more meat and coffee soon. Fuel cells are good and oxygen is clean.' I smiled and did a check for anything around us. Nothing but empty space until a second before a blip appeared 'planetary warning, uncharted planet. Danger level unknown.' I looked to the glass viewing port and saw it. A huge planet, more massive than Jupiter and completely solid. I commented our mission was finally a success. She nodded, walking over to a dispenser station with two mugs 'one cup tea and one cup coffee, two sugars and 2 ounces of milk.' the machine let out a beep before the two mugs were filled with the hot water and the cooler milk along with two packets of coffee and tea. She mixed the two and gave me the coffee. I thanked her for the drink and asked if we should scan the planet. She said we should wait till the mess hall opened up and the rest of the crew was up. I agreed and we spent the rest of the morning admiring the newly found planet." He paused and took a deep look into the fire. He gave a breath and went on.

"Some time passed before a sharp sound was heard to the south corridor. I looked over to the door and heard the sound growing louder with each passing second. I gave it another listen when I figured it was an air leak. I yelled for Sarah to close the hall. She pushed a button and the bulk head closed on the small hallway. Another hissing sound was heard in the hallway to the left of us, hissing growing louder with each passing second. The hallway was sealed off and the hissing stopped. 'Just our luck, damn ship decided to-' Sarah was interrupted by the sound that came from the only other way out of here ' we've got to get out of here!' I pushed down a switch to alert the crew of the danger and set the ship to reroute control to the engine room. As we sprinted down the closing hallway, I grabbed an emergency air tank off the wall and tossed it into the closing door. The tank stuck and we were home free. I slid under the shutter right after Sarah, tumbling into the wall and upside down. She snickered and helped me up. The hissing started up again but this time it was from outside. 'We're venting oxygen. Okay, we either find what's leaking or we land on the planet.' Sarah said grabbing a roll of tape from the wall. I nodded and tried to her but the ship lurched towards the left. I slammed into the glass, muzzle braced near the emptiness of space 'looks like the planet we found wants to meet us.' Sarah said herself in a similar position to me. The ship was being dragged into one of the huge planets belt of rocks I yelled to move as I picking her up and tossed her over my shoulder. She tried to walk but she gripped her ankle in pain. I forced her to stop and looked for the medical bay when a rock smashed into the bridge, sending the machines flying out of the dead environment into the blackness of space. I kicked the door to the engineering compartment and saw they were all trying to just keep the ship moving. I grabbed the engineer piloting the ship and told him to help Sarah. He nodded and left to the medical hall. The monitor gave a view of the outside and the planet quickly approaching." Everyone was listening with all their attention, not even noticing the fire growing dimmer by the second. He went on and soon we learned just how this went down.

"Another smash and the entire bridge was torn off, followed by the right back engine.'Planet approaching fast...entering atmosphere...Now!' the navigator said as the entire ship jumped and lurched, forcing me to hang onto the console for dear life. When the turbulence ending, my head slammed onto the floor. I felt my vision blur and something warm getting mixed with my fur. I counted down the ships falling.

Five, four, three, two, one... In the blink of an eye. The entire crew nearly was thrown to the ceiling by the force of smashing into the rocky side of the mountain. I felt my body get flung away from the controls into a wall and then nothing but darkness. The room kept shaking and I felt nothing but the pressing of something on top of me." He rubbed his head and then his wrist, remembering his wounds.

"When I had finally woken up again, the entire area was alive in flames. I felt my head and reeled at the feel of the hot crimson liquid coming out of my skull. I ripped my sleeves off and used one to cover my head wounds and the other to fix my broken wrist up. I shambled through the area looking for Sarah, avoiding the flames until I reached the med rooms. The doors were all locked except for one I called her name as I poking my head into the room. I looked around and saw she was lying on the floor unharmed. I thanked the gods she was alright. I shook her for a bit and she stirred. I tried to move the upturned medical bed upright again. I finally flipped the bed with my arm and tried to pick her up. She was rather light, but then again the adrenaline helped a lot too. She began to stir and I remembered my medical training they gave us before we left for wild space. I shook her shoulder lightly and called her name. She opened her eyes and groaned 'we crashed didn't we?' I nodded and she chuckled 'we had one payment left on this thing...now what?' I gave her a once over and saw she was fine. I asked if her ankle was better. She nodded but said it's a little sore, along with everything else after being tossed around like a rag doll. I eased my way to the crew quarters and saw a huge hole ripped into the side of the mess hall. Where my room once was, a hole had swallowed it and spat it out some distance away. I kept calling for any survivors, but it seems they either got away from the ship or worse. I picked up a backpack and filled it with any provisions and other supplies we needed for awhile and set out. I took one last look at our vessel. I wished it goodbye, keeping those last words to myself and started walking west, to the mountains seeming to glow in the sunlight." The fire dimmed to nearly nothing, the embers keeping little to no heat. We all agreed to get to sleep, wanting to move quickly in the morning. I wondered if the captain lost his wife since she wasn't with him when I came to the group. I vaguely remember hitting my head before I met the group, and something about this ship seemed almost nostalgic. I shrugged off the feeling and began to drift away into sleep, dreaming of my life before I came to this planet.
