I would love to hear what you all think! ^.^

Ted sat with the rest of the world, watching as the grand weapon arose from the ground. This might be the last thing that he ever got to see, "Please... please let him come home safe..." Ted prayed, his hands clasped together. The leopard's eyes were shaking ever so slightly from stress. In his mind, he could only think of one person up there in space. A fox by the name of Kyle, he was Ted's boyfriend and the center of the Leopard's universe.

There was a countdown as the leader stepped towards the button, everyone breathed the numbers as the timer counted down until...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Earth, a planet that had always strived to break through the sky and reach the stars that they could see from their earthbound state. The inhabitants would build buildings that tried to break through the ozone layer, they tried everything they could to build just a little bit higher. Until the day that the first spaceship launched and broke through that long standing layer, it was a huge achievement for everyone.
Scientists strived to push further and further out into space, at times they hit snags as the government pulled their funds and rival governments trying to shut them down. To recieve the funding they needed, conglomerates started to put funding into the space program so they could get revenue on space trips. As they pushed further and further into space, earth started to attract attention from neighboring aliens.
At first the furs on earth thought it would be great to meet aliens, coalitions were formed to make peace with the new sentient species they were meeting. When the furs met with the species, they found that they didn't want to make peace, quite the opposite in fact. At first small skirmishes between the aliens and the furs happened, nothing too serious. But soon the battles started to grow in intensity, some of the space travelers never returned home.
The government tried to appease the aliens with bribes and minerals, but the aliens didn't reciprocate with kindness. When they found out about the earth's minerals, they grew only more hostile. The government tried to hold out for as long as they could without starting a war, it took twenty years for the people's cries for blood for the government to finally make an official announcement. The earth was at war with the beings out in space.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It lasted three generations, furs came and went living in fear of the fact that at any time the aliens could pierce their thin line of defense and come crashing down onto earth. When the war started, the sky was a gorgeous blue. But due to the constant spaceships launching off into space, and the gases that were trapped in the earth's atmosphere, the color of the sky shifted to an amber color. Funny enough, even with all of the gases destroying the atmosphere, any fears of global warming disappeared.

The countries of earth at first hated one another still, but as the war became dangerous, the aliens constantly unveiling weapons that easily sliced through the ship's defences, the countries decided that it was too dangerous to continue petty squabbles among themselves. It was an exciting prospect for the scientific community, furs revealed different technologies to one another so they could adapt their ships to be stronger against the alien's ships.

It was a heart wrenching war, ships were visible from earth's surface so scientists were able to identify the destroyed ships and tell the families the news. The aliens gave no sign of weakening, earth on the other hand was slowly losing hope as their resources were drained. It took the furs on earth to realize that the only way they would survive, was to make a desperate last attack. They gathered up their resources and constructed a weapon, one that harnassed energy from the sun. It was a long shot, the aliens would either be destroyed by the beam, or they would block it and counteract destroying the last of the defenses.

It took months to construct, they carted in minerals by the hour. Every cart they had to specially hide in a container made of lead, they couldn't risk the aliens catching sight of the precious gems. After months of secrecy and death, the machine was constructed. A weapon of sheer destructive power, but even then, the furs didn't know if it would be enough.

The inhabitants of earth had watched with baited breath as the army pointed the weapon to the sky. They had pinpointed the main ship of the alien's fleet, they were praying with it gone that the aliens would get frightened off. It was the leader of the united nations that was given the task of pressing the button, an ambassador from france he seemed so insignificant before. But at that moment, he became the fur that would protect the world.

One press of a button, and the laser discharged. The event was televised, the cameras were only able to catch a few moments of the blast before all of the electronics fried from the electronic discharge. But even then, they could see it shooting off into the stars. It took just a minute for the beam to reach the ship, there was a moment of fear and silence as the beam traveled until... the beam connected. They watched as the ship was engulfed in a massive explosion, it was a moment that was considered the highlight of the earth's existence and the start of a new time for the furs.

The aliens had imediantly shot the earth government a message requesting a peace treaty between their planets to be signed, the government had eagerly taken the chance. Though as the aliens prepared to meet with the furs, a rogue ship from the alien's side decided to try to take the furs out with a surprise attack though they were quickly put down. The aliens had quickly told the government that it had been a traitor ship, the furs decided to take it as the truth.

Kyle stood on the bridge of the spaceship Hope with the captain as they all waited for the alien spaceship to make contact with their own ambassador's ship. There was tension in the crew as the alien's ship connected, there was a sigh of relief. "Alright, no one had been injured." The captain announced before turning to his crew, "Now that they no longer need our immediate protection. You may all start leaving the ship, the transfer pods can carry six inhabitants."

It took the crew a few minutes to decide, but after some brief arguments it was decided. Kyle and some of the higher ranked officers on the ship were to go first, they clambered into the pod and buckled themselves in just before it launched towards a carrier ship. There was silence in the pod as they sailed through the silence of space, as the pod slipped through the protective shield of the ship they heard an ominous rumble.

Kyle started to look out the window, "What was that?" Then a wave of energy hit them, and the last thing Kyle saw was his fellow shipmates catching on fire from the pure explosive energy of the wave.

Ted dug his claws into his arms. It wasn't possible, it couldn't be... His eyes were locked onto the form that the government agent had handed him, it was his boyfriend's military papers with the letters KIA stamped on them. The leopard had been looking at the sheets for what felt like an eternity, he had heard the news about a rogue squadron of the aliens attacking them after the laser shot, but he hadn't even thought of the idea that a ship had been destroyed during the attack.

Blood started to leak out of the wounds that Ted had inflicted upon himself, but even then it didn't register with the cat. His boyfriend was dead, reaching out delicately Ted traced a finger over his boyfriend's picture. It showed a handsome fox, strong in jaw and stern in looks. "Kyle..." He whispered, his voice hoarse after shouting at the agent to get out.

It didn't seem possible, the peace treaty had been signed an hour ago, but Ted couldn't feel less at peace if he tried. Kyle had been his whole world, thick headed and stubborn at times, but the sweetest boyfriend imaginable. Kyle had told him that when he returned from space, they would get married. A strangled sob escaped from Kyle's throat, "C... come back hun..." He hissed, a claw accidentally extended from his finger and pierced the picture of his boyfriend.

From a room over, a servant robot walked in. It was formed to look like a feral dog, a robotic voice escaped the electronic pooch's mouth. "Is something the matter master? May I get you a revitalizing beverage to calm you down?" Ted was tempted to kick the robot for Kyle's death, but he quickly dropped the idea. The robot had done nothing wrong.

Ted wiped away a tear from his eye and sighed, "No, you can go." The robot bowed its head and turned before walking out, Ted watched the robot walk out with a deadened gaze.

Sitting back down, Ted thought about the first time he had met Kyle. The leopard had been starting out as a intern at the local hospital, as he had to patch up a few soldiers. He had to use a clipboard and write down their names before starting to heal them, "Name?" He had asked a soldier.

"Kyle." The soldier answered, Ted looked up and froze as he saw one of the finest foxes he had ever met. Words failed the leopard, Kyle grinned. "Cat got your tongue?" He asked teasingly.

Ted tried to speak and started to laugh, Kyle looked surprised at first but then started to laugh along with the odd Leopard. After that, Ted found that the fox kept on finding ways to keep on visiting him until they had gotten into a real relationship.

Ted's phone started to ring pulling the leopard out of his reverie, and he felt an enormous pressure start to weight on his head. "Great..." He muttered before blinking twice in quick succession bringing up a hud that hovered over his vision, "Phone." He spoke aloud, a small ringing phone icon quickly pulled up and the receiver picked up making the sound of breathes sound in his ear. "Hello?"

The voice on the other end belonged to a fellow worker of his, "Ted! We need you to get over to the hospital now, we're fixing up the troopers who are coming home."

Ted wanted to tell her to leave him alone, he just wanted to vanish without Kyle but he knew that his boyfriend would get angry if he knew that Ted was acting so childish. In a quiet voice, Ted answered. "Alright Kyria, I'll be over in a bit."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Driving towards the hospital in his nurse scrubs, Ted was distracted by the still orange sky. Pieces of the space ships still floated in the air, Scientists were apparently developing a way to quickly get rid of the rubbish. Ted's feline eyes tried to seek out some discernible part of his boyfriend's ship, but it was no use, the pieces may of been big but they weren't big enough to be easy to see.
Hover cars were all rushing towards the hospital, civilians were crowding the hover lines so that no one could get through. Thankfully as Ted was hospital staff, he was given a special key which allowed him to bypass traffic. The leopard slipped off the key from his throat and slipped it into the keyhole before turning it, beneath his car an opening in the hover lines vanished and his car hovered down before the hole slid closed once more.
Having escaped traffic, Ted was easily able to drive under all of the traffic. Reaching the hospital, Ted parked on his personal parking terminal and rushed into the building. Walking into the main center, he was buffeted by nurses and doctors rushing around. Kyria saw him and rushed over with a clipboard in hand, she was a short wolf with pink markings on her ears. Even though dyeing fur wasn't allowed in the hospital, she had made sure that the boss allow her to have it by blackmailing him with a secret that apparently was too gross for words.
Kyria was the head nurse, drawing up to Ted she quickly pushed the clipboard into his paws. "Here are your patients, get on those imediantly." And before she said another word, she was off to deal with a robot that seemed to be taking a patient's heartrate through their leg. "Stupid robots..." Ted heard her mutter as she left.
Ted sighed and looked at his list, being a nurse he was prepared for anything. Kyria trusted him the most out of the other nurses as he'd seen everything through the war, she usually gave him the burn victims because he had a strong enough stomach to stand the smell and the sight. He had six patients, "Time to go to work..." He muttered before turning towards the first stall.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Each patient was unidentifiable, their bodies had been burned so critically that their forms weren't able to be easily told apart. They were all canine in shape, so they could tell species but as for what for what type of canine they would have to take DNA samples and with the sheer amount of burnt tissue it wouldn't be a pleasant process.. Ted prepped each patient for a reconstructive laser, it would take a light scan of the body and dip an extra thin needle into the burnt skin to grab a sample of DNA. From then after, the laser would reconstruct the skin and the fur of the patient.

Seeing each patient be reconstructed used to give Ted joy, but seeing all of these canines who would be able to live their lives with their loved ones just pissed Ted off. He wouldn't be able to see Kyle ever again, the first five each went without a hitch though the Leopard got angrier with each one. Something about the sixth set the nurse off, as Ted moved around the patient prepping him with special salves the patient's eyes followed him oddly.

Ted would glance at the patient and see his eyes following him intently as if he saw something on Ted, it usually it wouldn't bother him but after losing Kyle... "Stop it." He hissed in a whisper, "Stop looking at me like that. I have a b... I had a boyfriend." He muttered in pain, he started to rub the salve on the patient's body once more but just a moment later when he looked at the patient's eyes he saw them locked onto his body once more. "Stop!" He shouted out, patients nearby turning to look at him along with the doctors.

The leopard blushed under his fur, "Sorry everyone." He called out before turning back to the patient, "Alright... I'll press this button and you'll be all better." He said bitterly, as he was about to press a red button on the wall that would activate the laser above the patient he froze. "Why... why should you get a happy ending when Kyle is dead?" Ted whispered, "Why does he not get to live happily ever after with me?"

The patient said nothing, he just glanced longingly at the button that ted's hand hovered over. Ted contemplated not pressing it for a moment but then he shook his head, "Kyle wouldn't want that... he would want me to help every patient who comes into this hospital." He pressed the button and picked up the clipboard, "I'll fill this out, and once you're done being healed up I'll get your name down and you can leave." Ted said in a monotone voice, he didn't want to think about Kyle anymore. He just wanted out of the smelly hospital.

It took a minute for the laser to reconstruct the patient's body, "Name?" Ted asked.

The patient's voice was shaky for just a moment as he cleared his throat, "Hmmmcough!" After a few grunts to make sure his voice was clear, the patient answered clearly. "Kyle."

The world froze, Ted's paw froze as he continued to look down at the clipboard. He didn't want to move, he didn't want to get his hopes up. His eyes slowly drifted up and he found himself looking at the handsome muzzle of a fox, the clipboard dropped from his hand and smacked against the tiled floor. Ted attempted to speak but nothing escaped his lips.

Kyle grinned his famous smile, "Cat got your tongue?" Ted tried to speak, but it was no use. Instead he threw himself at the fox who hugged him back.

The couple embraced tightly, even after the war that had cost so many their lives. Ted had someone to love still.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"How?" Ted asked as he drove towards their home, Kyle was too weak to drive still. Even after being healed up by the beam, his muscles were slightly atrophied by the burns.
Kyle smiled knowingly, "I knew that would be the first question. Well, when my ship was blown up, I was actually en route to another ship which was going to bring soldiers home. Just as I was getting within the shielding of the ship with five other soldiers, our original ship was blown up. Even though we were in the shielding, our pod was hit by the kinetic blast and we were launched right into the carrier's main hanger. The pod had caught on fire inside and we barely got out alive..."
Tears formed in Ted's eyes for the fourth time since he'd seen Kyle, "I'm just so glad that you're okay hun..."
Kyle reached over and placed his hand on his boyfriend's, "I am too... now, why don't you stop over here." He gestured towards a jewelers and winked at Ted, "I think I have a long awaited proposal to make."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Four months later...

Ted smiled at his Fiance as they stood at the alter, the preacher finishing up the last of his words before smiling and looking up at Kyle. "You may kiss the groom."

Kyle smiled happily back, "I'd be glad to." They kissed and their families and friends broke into applause as the lovers kissed. It was the happiest moment in the couple's life, and they couldn't be happier, after the party the two went on their honeymoon to one of the new vacation spots on the moon.

After the war, space had opened up to the inhabitants of earth now that they were no longer being assaulted. The moons of saturn were colonized first, it took a bit of robot help, but under three months they were able to terraform the moon and made it inhabitable.

As they relaxed there, Kyle glanced at Ted as they lounged in a hot tub together. "Hun, did you hear how the government is starting to think about letting aliens come to earth?"

Looking back curiously, Ted asked. "Oh? I thought that the earth government wanted to wait longer before allowing that kind of exchange."

Kyle perked his lips and nodded, "That was the plan originally, but as of late. There have been these groups on earth forming with the goal to have complete human alien coexistence, in my opinion it's not going to work. But the groups are so adamant that the government is too worried about riots to deny the idea."

Nodding slowly, Ted leaned against his husband. "I guess we'll see how this all turns out... now... where is that waiter-bot?"
