"Morning sleepy butt." my mom said as she opened the blinds to let the afternoon light in.

I moan and turn away from the light hidding under the covers. That didn't last long though as my mom pulled the covers off of me despite my attempt to hold on to them. I wish she hadn't of taken the covers though because I was only in my underwear. With it being late summer and my coat of fur it was miserable to sleep with anything else on. I caught a glimps of my mom as she turned away after she pulled the sheets off. I chuckle and reach over the side of the bed as I grab my shirt and pants and put them on for my mom.

"I'm clothed now." I said to her as I finished zipping up my pants.

She put the sheets back on my bed and walked over to me to give me a big hug. I hug back purring and scratch her back a little.

"Now since you missed your birthday breakfast I made you french toast for lunch instead that ok?" she asked as she moved over to my bed and started to make it.

I purr as I move over to the bed and help her make it. "Yea thats great mom."

Today is a big day I am turning 18 and mom promised to tell me why I am different then everyone else around me. All I know is what she told me so far that I was not human like her. When I pressed for more answers she would only say 'All will be clear when you turn 18.' Well today is the day I turn 18 and I am going to finally get answers to questions I've had for a while now. After the bed was finished we went down stairs to get lunch and then it was off to my "surprise" party. One thing mom never did get a handle on was the fact that I have great hearing and that the walls arnt that thick so when she's on the phone talking to Kristy about my party I could hear her. Lunch was amazing mom always knew how to make the best french toast.

"You know it's kind of hard to believe that it's been 18 years." Mom said almost laughing as she gathered up the dishes to wash.

"That it has been which reminds me all those questions I asked you and you said you would answer when I was 18 think we can go over them now." I tried to play it off like I wasn't waiting for the smallest chance to ask her.

"Can it wait till later tonight?" she asked not looking up from doing the dishes. "Now why don't you go up and get ready we need to go get some stuff from the store for your birthday tonight."

'Why does she do this? All I want to know is why I'm different is all.' I think to myself as I go up stairs to take a shower and get ready for the party later. By the time I was done and headed back down stairs it was already close to dinner time. Mom was ready for me as I came down from cleaning up I even brushed my fur something I don't do often. We walked out the door and headed over to the park even though mom kept on trying to trick me that we are just going to the store. As well as my hearing my sight was better then hers too, I saw all of my friends getting ready to surprise me before they even caught a glimps of us heading their way. Especially since it was night time and my night vision is amazing.

"How about we cut through the park and save some time?" My mom askes as she heads towards the park.

"Sounds good to me." I respond trying to pretend I don't know whats going on.

As we got closer my friends had spotted us and took to their hiding places. I could hear the occasional giggle followed by a shush. I tried not to but I couldn't help but start to purr as we got closer to the park. When we were about ten feet away from the dinning area all of my friends jumped out yelling "Surprise!" I purr loudly and pretend to be surprised as they all come up and give me a big hug wishing me a happy birthday. The party went on like any other birthday party games, snacks, dinner, cake, and presents. I tried to seem into the party but the whole time my mind was on something else. It was on the questions I was going to ask as soon as we got home. It wasn't till close to midnight that we decided to head on back home on the way there I tried to question mom but she just shook her head and said to wait till we get home. The walk home was a very long long long walk.

"Alright now before you get all questiony just go to the living room and wait for me there." mom said as soon as we got home. "All your questions will be answered soon I promise."

For a split second I thought I caught a few tears in her eyes as she walked up the stairs to her room. I walked to the living room almost not believeing that this is almost finally over I am about to find out who it is I am and why I am different. It didn't take long for mom to return to the living room and when she did she had a letter in her hand that had my name on it. My curiosity got the best of me.

"Mom who's the letter from?" I asked trying to find a name on it now that it was in my paws, but the only thing I saw on it was my name.

"It's from your mother." she said tears forming up in her eyes, "Your real mother. She asked me to give it to you on your 18th birthday."

I was stunned right then and there. 'My real mother?' Growing up all this time I thought the person I was living with was my mother, but now I've come to find out that she's not and that my real mother did not want me.

"Now I know there must be a million questions running through your head right now but please read the letter before you ask any of them. I'm sure your mom has answered a few of them in the letter." mom said as she was trying to keep it together.

I look over at her and give her a big hug. "I don't care what this letter has in it I want you to know you will always be my mother ok?"

She smiles at me and hugs back tightly. "Thank you."

I look at the letter one more time and slowly turn it over to open it my paws shaking pretty badly.

Dear Tyler,

Now I know this must be very confusing for you and that you have a million questions so I am going to try and answer as many of them as I can in this letter. First off I want you to know I love you so very much and it's with that love that I sent you to stay with my best friend Tammy. You are as I guess found out by now not fully human. Your father was a furry and that gene is stronger then the human gene so you too are a furry. Now furries arn't from the part of the world you are staying in so I don't know if you've run into another out there but if not let me tell you where the furries came from. Furries haven't always been around it wasn't till about the 19th century that the first furry came to be. Originaly furries were created from mixing animal and human DNA to make a super solder. We were on the brink of war and turned to science for the answers. Well it was about the 21st century when a fur by the name of Cody lead the rebelion to free the furs and give them equal rights. Well that lasted for a while but another war broke out that divided the earth down the middle. Furries on one side and humans on the other. There are a few cities near the boarder that still live by the old code and have equal rights for both but for the most part we are divided. Now that you know what and where furries come from I hope it helps you to understand and find your place in this world. I love you a whole lot and hope you have a great birthday and live a wonderful and long life.

P.S. Now that you know the truth that Tammy is not your real mom please do not come looking for me. I will always love you and hope for the best but if you try and find me only pain and suffering will follow. So please just stay with Tammy and live a normal life.
