Ch.1-Introduction

A few years back, a wise man once said to me, "get your fucking reptilian ass out of bed and do something with your life! *gulp gulp gulp* *burp*" This so called "wise man" is my deadbeat drunk of a father, his name is Nebi. Funny right? Well his life sure makes up for the name; ever since he was an adolescent, this panther had bled, sweat, and nearly died for war and battle. My father has shot and killed numerous soldiers, reaching from the Great War of 2187, where the last of the humans were killed off, to Russia's Civil War where American soldiers were sent for reinforcements on the Russian side that just so happened wanted capitalism.

Then there's my mother, Felina, she was raised by a family of lynx slaves that served some rich, fru-fru humans until they decided to kill them in their sleep and keep the house for themselves. Throughout my life, she has been the only person that really cared for me, I know my father cared for me as well, but he used the regular "tough love" method.

And now for myself, my name's Attor. I'm 17 years old, around 5'10, my primary scale color is red with a secondary color of black. When I was just a hatchling, I was put in an orphanage; no one really knew my actual parents, I was found at the front doorstep with nothing but a necklace, hanging around my neck. I was four years old when my adoption parents came and picked me out from the "litter," if want to call it that, and brought me down to the great state of North Carolina. Throughout my childhood I was considered a "troublemaker" and a "menace" in the eyes of the adults, I would sometimes steal things that weren't mine, broken things purposely, talking back, you know the usual shit. I've had three girlfriends my entire life, one was in middle school and two were during my high school years...none of them didn't end too well; but I'm sure in the future my soul mate will appear.

"Soul mate? What kind of gay shit did that come from?" I said, crumbling up the piece of paper and then tossing it in the trash.

I turned my head to the digital clock sitting next to me; it said 10:30 A.M.

"CRAP!" I yelled, realizing I had stayed up the whole night making up different beginnings for my book.

"Is something wrong hun?" Mom called from downstairs.

"Nothing mom, just uh...stepped on something!"

"Well put on a band-aid if you're bleeding and come downstairs, I made eggs and pancakes!"

"Kay' I'll be down in a second!"

I then began my usual morning routines; I took off my clothes, took a quick shower, sharpened my claws for the day, put on a pair of clean clothes, picked up my book of story beginnings and walked downstairs, all while being half asleep.

"Mornin' mom, dad," I kissed mom on the cheek and patted dad's shoulder.

"Morning sweetie," mom said and went back to making eggs, while dad just mumbled hello while reading the newspaper.

I sat down next to dad at the table, waiting for my breakfast. Dad looked over to me and noticed my book of ideas and chuckled.

"Still working on that book I see, so how many ideas are you at now? 300? 450?"

"Very funny dad, I'll have you know I've come up with a book idea and I'm now beginning to write it," I said very proudly.

"So let's hear it then."

"Well it's about me and my life and how I embark on a journey once I turn 18."

"Oh, that's um...very interesting dear. I'll have to read it once you finish it," mom said while placing my breakfast on the table.

"Thanks mom," I looked over at dad and saw the newspaper shaking.

"Dad?"

"Yeah?" dad asked in a sort of crying tone, he was clearly trying to hold back his laughter.

"Nevermind."

"HEY SPEAKING OF WHICH, I do recall someone's birthday being tomorrow!" mom pointed the whisk at me.

"Mom for the love of god and all that is holy, do not, I repeat, do not give me a birthday party."

"Oh don't worry; we're way too busy to be giving you a party this year. By the way Attor, do you mind going to the store and pick up a few things at the store I'm uh...short on a few cooking supplies."

"Sure, I guess," I grabbed the list from mom.

I quickly ate my breakfast, grabbed my book, and started to walk to the store. As I walked down the street, I reached into my pocket and took out the list; the list said milk, eggs, 4x bags of M&M's, 3x bags of chips, and 4x bottles of soda.

"Son of a bitch!" I threw my hands in the air.

"Something wrong Attor?"

I swung my head to the right, knowing exactly whose voice that was.

"Oh uh...hi there Linda, n-nothing's wrong, I'm just reading this list." Linda walked over to me and looked at the list of groceries.

Linda giggled, "I see your mom is going against your will for no party; that's quite a list, how about I come with you and help carry some bags?"

"Oh, no...no, no, no, I'm fine, I really am, there's no need to."

"Well too bad, I've been trying to think of an excuse to ditch these chores," Linda pointed from behind her back the pile of sticks around the yard.

"Yeah, I would do the same thing," I began to chuckle nervously.

"Be right back, just let me get my purse," Linda fast walked into the house.

As Linda entered the house, I began to feel a little light headed and had to regain my balance. Linda was the regular "girl next door" for my neighborhood; throughout the years, me and her lived next to each other from the day I was adopted. She's the same age as me, although I am slightly taller than her. We did everything together, reaching from spending the day at the amusement park with our parents to camping in the backyard telling ghost stories; but as soon as puberty hit, I started having more feelings for this dragoness than just being BFFs.

"Alright, lets go," Linda walked towards me.

At that moment, time seemed to slow down as I watched her. Her long and curly horns, her light blue scales that shine like the Caribbean ocean, and that way she walks, swaying her tail every time she takes a step.

"Attor, you alright?"

"Oh, uh yeah, just tired that's all."

"Well come on, we don't have all day," Linda snapped her fingers in front of me.

"Alright, alright," shaking my head bring me out of the daze.

We walked down the street, cut through lawns, and took other shortcuts to reduce the time it took to get downtown. We talked about how summer break was going and discussing new types of drama going on with our other friends.

We arrived at the local store 15 minutes later; I had to catch my breath when we reached the front doors because we agreed to a footrace once the store was in sight.

"God Attor, you're such a pussy."

"Shuddup, *huff* *huff* I sprained my ankle."

"Whatever helps you sleep at night."

Linda opened up the shop doors, "ladies first."

"Hardy har har."

We went inside and began our shopping; Linda went to get the milk, eggs, and the chips while I went to get the candy and soda.

"Get Pepsi, I hate Coke!" Linda called out.

"A real Carolina girl, aren't you Linda?"

"Hell yeah!"

I opened the fridge doors and was hit with a torrent of cold air.

"AAAAAAAT-TOOOOORRRR," I quietly heard.

"Huh? What Linda?"

"What?"

"Didn't you just call out my name?"

"No," Linda walked over to me.

"Strange, I swear I just heard my name."

"Attor, I'm giving you psychiatric care for your birthday, mmk?"

I just gave her the evil glare.

"Stare at me all you want, you're still getting it."

We walked to the counter and paid for our things; after putting the groceries into plastic bags, we walked out and began to head home. It took us an extra 15 minutes to get back with the groceries in our hands, there wasn't much to talk about that we already discussed coming to the store so it was mostly just the sound of twigs breaking under our feet with the occasional bird singing around us.

When we reached our houses, Linda handed me the load that she carried.

"Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow for your birthday party," Linda giggled.

"Heh, yeah no kidding," I chuckled while readjusting the bags in my hands.

"Well uh...bye," Linda waved and walked into her house.

"Yeah bye," I said to her even though she couldn't hear me.

I then walked over to my house and opened the door; standing in front of me was my mother, standing on a ladder holding a happy birthday sign.

"*Sigh* isn't it a little too early to put that up don't you think?" I asked.

"Oh Attor, uhhh, just...just put the food in the kitchen."

I slapped my forehead while shaking my head, then walked into the kitchen to put down the groceries. Just like any other day, dad is sitting at the same chair since this morning, while reading the same newspaper.

"Took you long enough, what did you do? Crawl?" Dad chuckled.

"No...I was talking to Linda and she tagged along with me to the store," laying the bags on the counter.

"Of course she did," Dad said while turning the next page of the newspaper.

I thought about replying back but I just turned around and left the room. I climbed up the stairs and went to my room; as I closed the door I heard mom call out my name.

"What!"

"Don't be up all night; we need you to come downstairs early for your bir...some errands!"

"Mom please, do not give me a birthday party!"

"I'm nooooot, I got too much stuff to do tomorrow," I heard her snicker.

"Ughhhhhhh!" I slammed the door.

I walked over to my bed and picked up my notebook, I was beginning to write the first chapter of my story. For two hours I laid on my bed writing my story, I started to become sleepy over time.

"Just this last paragraph," I said to myself, the last three paragraphs ago.

I got to the point where I would write down a word and my eyelids would become heavier.

"Atttooorrrrr......"

"Who's that?"

"Atttooorrrr....."

"Who's there?"

"Attor!"

I opened my eyes to find Linda sitting next to me.

"Linda?" I rubbed my eyes.

"Sorry to wake you but I couldn't wait to give you your birthday present," she handed me a little box.

I opened the box.

"A pencil sharpener?"

"Yeah, I always see you write in your storybook thing so I thought about that."

I looked closer at it to see if there was anything special about it.

"Thanks...."

"Your welcome...but that isn't my main gift for you."

"It isn't? Then what is i...mmm"

Linda leaned in and gave me a deep and passionate kiss on the lips. It was everything that I would have dreamed of, fireworks were going off in my mind. What only lasted for only a few seconds felt like it lasted forever and when it was over I blacked out.

Linda chuckled "goodnight birthday boy," Linda gave me a kiss on the forehead and climbed out the window.

"Attttttoooorrrrr...."

"Who's there?"

"Thereeee issnn'tt much timeeee....you musssst travelll toooo Theeee Graanddd Cannnyonnn asss soooon assss possibleee."

"What's going on?"

"Theereee issnn'ttt timmmee too explainnn...yooouuu muusssttt gooooo."

I opened my eyes and shot up from my bed. I turned my head to find that the sun had arisen.
