Prancer's Announcement

As the sleigh came in for a landing at the North Pole, the elves began unbridling the reindeer.

"So, I was thinking," said Dancer, "We could all get together after this, and just hang out at the Elfen Tavern down the street."

"Sounds good," Dasher said.

"Count me in," said Cupid, looking at Vixen with a sly grin.

"I'll be there," said Rudoph.

Dancer looked at Prancer, "You'll be there too of course."

Prancer looked at her friend kindly, but then she shook her head. "Normally I would, but tonight I just want to share with Blitzen."

Blitzen looked at Prancer surprised, but then nodded. He'd love to spend the night with just him and the doe he loved.

Dancer nodded her head in understanding.

Once they were all unharnessed, Prancer and Blitzen walked away from the rest of the group to a frozen pond. The Northern Lights shone brightly over their heads, and Prancer took in the air peacefully.

"I'm glad I can spend the night with you," said Prancer, "I love the other reindeer, but sometimes, I'm glad to just have you."

Blitzen nodded. "What's the special reason for bringing us out here? I know it must be big for you to give up hanging out at the tavern with the others."

"Is there any more special reason than just you?"

Blitzen looked at Prancer skeptically.

"Okay, okay," Prancer admitted, her eyes lighting up. She leaned against a candy cane tree and looked at him seriously, "What do you want to name our calf?"

Bitzen took a step back, "Our what?" His eyes went wide with realization, "Is that how you're going to break it to me. Please don't tell me that's how you're going to break it to me. No seriously, you're..."

"I'm pregnant Blitzen!" Prancer shouted with joy.

Blitzen suddenly felt warmth growing in his heart. He nuzzled Prancer with his antlers, "That's amazing. I mean, I'm happy for you." He still couldn't believe it, "I'm going to be a father I guess."

Prancer couldn't help but prance on the tips of her hoofs with excitement, "So, what should we name it?"

"Hold it," said Blitzen, "we don't even know if it's going to be a boy or girl yet."

"Well, neither did Donner at first, when she had Rudolph," Prancer said, "Remember, if it had been a girl, he would've simply been Rue."

"All I'm saying," said Blitzen, "Is we've just found out, let's take our time and enjoy the moments as they come."

"You're right," said Prancer, "Let's just enjoy the night, and when the right name comes, the right name will come."

"I love you Prancer," said Blitzen, giving her another nuzzle, then he nuzzled her tummy as well, the calf growing inside.

"I love you too Blitzen," Prancer said.

Then they rested their heads together, antler intertwining antler, and just stood by the frozen pond under the candy cane trees, the starlit sky above them alive with the great aurora borealis.
