As the Light Fury is about to lay hers and Toothless' eggs, a clueless Toothless does his best to help.

Toothless and the Light Fury had found peace in the Hidden World together, spending their days as King and Queen ensuring the safety of all dragons, and by night, spending time together.

Toothless was content, but lately, he was starting to feel concern for his mate. She seemed to be always tired these days, and didn't carry the same level of energy as she used to. Was she sick?

And then there was the fact that she was more plump than usual. One day he had gestured to her stomach in inquiry. She growled at him.

Okay. She looked good plump. Really good. Toothless grinned these thoughts to her.

There was just something about it...

He sniffed the air. He knew that smell. He smelled around her back legs, back around her tail... There.

The Light Fury suddenly perked to attention awkwardly as Toothless' snout went where no snout should ever go.

She looked back at Toothless. He glanced back at her apologetically. She rolled her eyes. But now he knew what he'd smelt.

The Light Fury was with egg.

Toothless was immediately hopping around with excitement. He was going to be a father!

A few minutes later, he presented her a huge mouthful of fish to show her his gratitude.

But as she looked at the fish, she began to look nauseous. Toothless looked at his catch then at her. She looked at him and drawled apologetically.

Toothless looked around, was there any lamb here in the Hidden World?

Toothless took off and returned a little later with a big fat juicy sheep which he'd had to trade his entire catch for. Apparently a Scauldron had hoarded some away when they left for the Hidden World and had been raising them since. The Light Fury looked at the delectable meat like she couldn't contain herself. Instantly she leapt upon it and devoured it in moments.

After she was done, she looked up at Toothless with those big innocent blue eyes.

Apparently, Toothless' mate had a pretty big sheep craving right now.

Over the next few days, the Light Fury's belly continued to grow. Toothless would smother her with love and happiness, unable to contain his joy. The Light Fury couldn't help but sigh at this, one would think she was only having these eggs for him, and he thought it was the best sweetest gift ever. It wasn't as if she'd wanted babies herself or anything. Oh well, at least he was being sweet about it.

When Toothless set out to meet with some other dragons for his daily Alpha duties, he encouraged his mate to stay back. She needed all the rest she could get, carrying all those eggs inside her like she was.

One day, after he left, the Light Fury watched him go with longing, something didn't feel right inside her, and she felt that by the next time she saw him, things would be different.

So, she waited. After awhile of laying down, she began to feel restless, so she started pacing around.

She sat there watching the other dragons fly by above, feeling kind of jealous. They got to fly around and be free while she had to sit here and do nothing. Like laying a couple of eggs was really going to be so big of a deal that she'd have to rest over it.

As the Light Fury sat there, she began to wonder what it'd actually be like to lay the eggs. Of course she knew about eggs and egg laying from other dragons, but until now, she'd never held it as relevant, and never sought to discover how it worked. She always just presumed instinct would take over when it was time.

It be fine, she told herself, it'd be quick and simple.

She got back to her feet to begin pacing again...

Then something happened. Her face twisted awkwardly. What was this offensive feeling she felt inside? She held her head high. She was too well refined to be feeling such awkward sensations there.

And then she felt it again. She shifted her head inward, letting out a small whimper. That's when her instincts finally informed her as to why she was feeling those offensive sensations where no offensive sensations should ever be. That's how the eggs were getting into the world.

The Light Fury gulped.

And then the contractions hit her full force.

The Light Fury let out a roar of agony.

Toothless was in a heated debate with a group of dragons at the importance of not taking other dragons' fish, gesturing with his talons and tail as to why that was wrong, when suddenly he heard her roar. Toothless' heart stopped. Something was happening to his mate. Her agonized wails... It was like she was being tortured!

All else forgotten, Toothless took off to find his mate, fear gripping his heart, horrified at all the thoughts of what could be happening to her to make her sound like that. Had some cruel dragon hunters found the hidden realm? Was some hostile dragon ripping her apart limb from limb? He couldn't bear the thought of her being in such pain, but then why else would her roars sound so anguished?

Toothless found her quickly and landed beside her, there was no one else around, no one at all.

Yet there the Light Fury was, roaring into the sky like she couldn't tolerate whatever was happening to her a moment longer. Why had nobody else come to help? Many dragons had surely heard them, but all of them were passing on by like this was completely normal.

Toothless looked at the ground. Had she stepped on a rock? Had it penetrated her foot? Toothless couldn't bear the thought, but he had to check anyway. So he rushed to her and lifted up her first foot.

Distracted by her cries, the Light Fury hardly noticed him until he touched her. Through all her pain and confusion, her defense mechanisms instantly kicked in. As she roared in her pain, she leapt back, whacking Toothless away, roaring right into his face.

Toothless stepped back in shock. She just had time to process who it was who touched her before the contractions overtook her again.

And then Toothless saw it too. Her belly, spasming with great force, causing her to flinch, fold into herself, howl into the sky.

That was it! Food poisoning! That Scauldron had given him bad meat! Toothless was going to have to give him a serious growling to once he figured out how to heal his mate.

And by the way her stomach was contracting, this must have been some serious food poisoning. Toothless couldn't imagine. He'd find something to help.

Meanwhile, the Light Fury was enduring much more than she could bear. All she could do was scream her agony into the air like her existence depended on it, which it seemed like it very well might, but it did nothing to abate her pain. It was too much to imagine, she couldn't bear that this was her life. Just make it stop! every part of her was crying.

It was then that Toothless came back with the foul-tasting liquid one of the medically trained dragons had given him. If he could make her throw up, it might settle her stomach.

The Light Fury, so dehydrated by her ordeal, saw him coming toward her, seeing what he was carrying, some sloshing liquid. What? She didn't care. The thought of something to drink was so overpowering, it wouldn't make her condition much more livable, but at least she wouldn't be so thirsty.

Reaching her, Toothless offered her the drink. In the back of her mind, she noticed something smelled wrong, but she was so thirsty and in so much pain to care. She gulped it down in one sip, and Toothless' mouth dropped. Wow, she was eager.

And then the Light Fury suddenly realized what she had just drunk. She cried out, both her lower abdomen and her upper abdomen heaving in conflict with each other, out of sync, like her innards were the war grounds of Odin himself.

And then she threw up, all over the place.

Toothless stood there watching, feeling that somehow he'd done something wrong.

And it hadn't helped the Light Fury's condition at all.

The Light Fury, her energy now completely spent, collapsed to the ground, crying out and moaning, not able to contain what was happening inside her.

Toothless knew it was time to get the medical dragon.

As Toothless flew off again, the Light Fury just lay there, moaning and howling, each second as unbearable as the last, each following second providing no relief. She lay there for what seemed like forever, lost in a timeless fog of never ending agony.

Finally, Toothless arrived with the dragon he'd been looking for. As the dragon landed, and saw the Light Fury's condition, she turned to Toothless. Toothless frantically gestured to his mate trying to indicate how much she was dying. Didn't this dragon care?

The dragon once again looked at the Light Fury, then at the liquid induced vomit all over the place, then at Toothless again with the most _are you totally berserk_face she could muster.

Toothless looked at the medical dragon, lost. He'd just wanted to ease his mate's suffering. Why did no other dragon care?

And then the Light Fury gave out her most agonized howl yet. Toothless turned toward her, her pain digging into his heart, and then saw an egg fall onto the ground.

Toothless went still.

Oh.That's what was going on.

Then a more awkward thought hit. Is that really how they came? That was kind of... wrong.

But then his mate was still roaring. Was something else wrong? Wasn't it over?

Toothless looked at the medical dragon for help. The medical dragon just blinked, unfazed. Toothless quickly realized the situation. Of course, his mate had more than one egg.

Now knowing what was happening, he rushed to her side... And stopped. He still had no idea what to do. Toothless turned to the medical dragon for guidance, but she was already turning to flap away. Many dragons had laid eggs alone before, they'd figure it out. She had more important things to do.

Toothless turned once again to his mate. She was still howling. Toothless now knew it was eggs, but it must be horrible if it was causing her to loose it like this. He couldn't bear it.

He tried to lay a talon on her, but she pulled away, growling, it was all she could manage through this pain.

But then the contractions began hitting her differently, causing her back to arch. She struggled to her feet, and Toothless helped her, her not bothering to fend him off this time. The Light Fury hunched over, raising up on her hind legs. Toothless took a step back awkwardly. The Light Fury moaned. What a humiliating pose! What a humiliating circumstance period!

But then it hit her again and she roared out in extreme agony, - JUST LET HER BE! - and the second egg was there.

But it was not over yet. Why couldn't it be over? There would be no recovery from this, at least not mentally. Any future her and Toothless spent together would have to follow this, and that was an unbearable thought.

Toothless watched as his mate continued to writhe into herself. Two already, surely she could survive another. Though thinking about it, Toothless wasn't sure she wanted to survive any anymore. He tried to imagine himself in her situation and couldn't comprehend even having one, much less three. And how they came? He shifted his legs uncomfortably, not daring to translate it to his own body. He felt sad. She was going to be here until all the eggs inside her were out. Hopefully there weren't over a thousand or something. That wouldn't be fun.

Struggling, gasping, with only the smallest grasp of her own sanity, the Light Fury continued to endure, not because she could, but because she couldn't do otherwise.

And then finally the third egg was out. The Light Fury gasped. Was it over? Breathing hard, she felt her belly. She couldn't tell. But the contractions had stopped.

She turned to Toothless, who was staring at her awkwardly. Finally coming to her senses, she rolled her eyes.

But then she sighed. At least he tried to be there for her. No matter how poorly he handled it. Her stomach still felt a little weak from that awful liquid (she'd have to discuss that with Toothless later), and the rest of her...

She suddenly crossed her one back leg over the other. Did she really just do that? Is that how eggs really come into the world?

She looked at Toothless, who quickly looked away, obviously guessing what she was thinking. He looked back at her and tried to put on an innocent smile. The Light Fury gave out a small snort to herself. Egg laying, how improper.

Still, her heart couldn't help but soften as she joined Toothless besides the eggs, who had already began admiring them.

Toothless looked at his mate, his heart suddenly filling with joy. He began hoping up and down, and looked her right in the face. And licked her.

Okay, too much. She tapped his face to knock him out of it. Remember who had her innards annihilated in order for you to have these wonderful eggs.

That seemed to snap him out of it. But the Light Fury could still see the light of joy in her eyes.

The Light Fury rolled her eyes, but let herself be amused. In truth, Toothless could be a bit... clueless, but it was all in good spirit. He really cared for her and had simply wanted what was best for her. She couldn't think of another dragon she'd rather have these eggs with. Someday these eggs would hatch into three beautiful dragons, and her and Toothless would be their parents, and she was certain that just as she'd be a great mother, Toothless would be a great father.

And then the Light Fury licked Toothless back. Toothless looked at her in surprise, She just looked back at him innocently.
