We all stood there in our old fashioned white sailor uniforms, getting read to be deployed on our first tour in the Navy. In silence we watched as our loved ones came up and saw us off. Many of the sailor's wives began tearing up as they watched the naval ship sailed away. Every one of us were nervous, after all, this was the first time a ship like this set sail with so many Sailors on board. I walked below deck once we got out of sight and made my way down the corridor to my sleeping quarters.Once inside I closed the big metal door behind me and took off my uniform, it felt good to remove the hot sweaty clothing after standing above deck in the ninety degree heat. After I was sure no one else was coming into the small room I let my true form take place, my lightly tanned skin giving way to bright red scales, folded wings emerging from my back and a tail from the bottom of my spine. My face slowly transformed, taking the shape of a dragon, my long tongue flicked out into the air for a second before it slipped back into my maw. I flopped down on the hard mattress, my wings stretched out behind me to try and get rid of the cramped feeling of keeping them hidden. My muscles slowly began to relax and I looked up to the letter I had taped onto the bed above me, a slow smirk began to appear on my face as I read the kind words sent to me by my boyfriend.

Dear Vex,

I wrote this letter for you to remember me by while you're off serving your country on that damned water. I can already tell that I will miss you terribly... As I write this I can't help but to think of our first date, the one where you took me to that park and we ate breakfast while watching the sunrise. You were so eager to join the navy then, and now here you are a year later living your dream! I'm ecstatic that you followed your dreams, I just wish your dreams didn't take you from me for so long. Once you get back I want to watch the sunrise with you again, until then I'll spend my time missing you.

I felt my face begin to heat up with a blush, Helix was the only one who called me by my first name. Everyone else just knew me by my surname Riviera. He was also one of the only people who knew about my true form. My chest ached and I longed to hold him in my arms once again. "Why do I want to do this again...?" I muttered to myself, "I'm stuck on a huge, never before tested boat with a ton of other guys, and I'm stuck here without Helix...." I heard a knock at the heavy door and I morphed back into my human disguise, staying on the bed in only my boxers. "Come in!"

The door creaked open and a few other men walked in, all at least six feet tall with their heads shaved, the white uniforms contrasting with their tanned skin. "Why you already in bed Riviera!?" The oldest of them snarled out, a condescending smirk on his face. "We only just left!"

I rolled my eyes and turned over to face the wall, closing my eyes for a nap muttering out a quiet, "Screw you." My breathing slowed as I slipped into sleep, my unconscious taking over my thoughts. Helix's face was the only thing I could see, his voice echoing in my dreams. "Come back to me baby, I want to watch the Sunrise again~"

Before I knew it I was being jolted awake by various alarms and shouting, I forced myself out of bed and got my uniform on once again before heading out to see what the commotion was. Everyone was running to their stations so I made my way to the command center of the ship, the worried looks on the captains faces instantly made my heart drop. "Sir, what is going on?"

The higher ranking officer looked to me, his face flush with fear. "We're under attack by an enemy ship! Get to your station NOW sailor!"

He didn't need to tel me twice, I bolted to the lower portions of the vessel, making my way to the torpedoes. The second I entered I loaded one into the torpedo tube, awaiting instructions to fire. "Riviera, fire in Three.... Two.... One.... NOW!" I fired the torpedo and instantly knew something went wrong. The room was filling with water, that's when I realized it, firing the ruptured the hull in the lower decks. My eyes went wide with shock and I ran up to escape the quickly filling room. That's when the commanding officer's voice came over the intercom once again, "We are taking on water! Get out of the lower levels of the ship now or get sealed in there to go down with this damned ship! Terror took over and I bolted to get up to the deck, water slicked the metal floors, causing me to slip and slam into the walls multiple times.

I could see the ladder leading up to the higher level when the entire boat shook. "We're hit.... Fuck!" The trembling of the floor caused me to lose my footing, falling to the soaked floor. My body began to shiver from the cold water and I tried to stand once again, my entire body saturated in water. The boat began to shake once again, like an earthquake only effecting the ship. The shaking caused my body to slam into the wall before collapsing to the ground once again, hitting my head on the metal rung of the ladder. Blood began to cover my face and the floor, quickly becoming washed away by the water. Helix's face appeared again and my eyes welled with tears. "Looks like this is it baby..." My mouth quivered as the words escaped. My vision began to darken and I closed my eyes slowly, unable to fight the urge to sleep. His face the final thing I thought of before giving in.
