#8 of Pokemon - Snippets of Lives

In an alternate universe, Rai ascends to a Legendary, to Godhood.

Thunder clashed in the heavens striking down on the vulnerable mortal ground below. A bruised and battered Jolteon breathes hard, panting as he stares at the oncoming horse Pokemon . Despite the disadvantage of what he was facing, his condition, and his personal limits, Rai opened his maw and yelled defiantly. Static erupted from his body, scorching the rocky terrain around him, and he leaped forward.

"If this...!" Rai yelled, large beam of energy interrupting him.

As it reaches him, a large shroud of dust fills the air, covering him. It appears he has fallen and all is lost - but then, the dust is pushed mightily away by the Jolteon's own energy bolt of lightning, heading right to Arceus. While it is unfortunately knocked away effortlessly with little more than a turn of Arceus' head, Rai appears as if out of nowhere behind Arceus' head. A strong Thunder attack emits from him, and it hits Arceus to pratically no effect.

A dust cloud covers the vision, and neither Pokemon can see anything, though it only really inhibits one of them. "If this is what..." the Jolteon starts again, growling deeply and, yet again, being interrupted by a harsh body slam against himself. It knocks him down below a lower-level cliff, where he forms a small crater. For a long moment, he doesn't move, and the equine almost turns to leave the seemingly-dead 'mon.

"If this is what it means..." The words come from the downtrodden prince's maw, his eyes cracking open and looking angrily at the god of creation. "...to be a Legendary..." He stands up on all fours. His eyes cloud over, and the sky itself becomes gray and thunderous. A storm brews as the Eeveelution bars his fangs.

The Arceus looked mildly surprised, or perhaps intruiged. 'Hmm? This isn't something he should be able to do.' He looked up to the sky, watching the clouds. It was identical to the attack that Zapdos could perform - or at least it appeared to be identical. 'How did he learn to do this? It couldn't have been on his own.' Although, it HAD been on Rai's own. He was, to the best of his memory, copying the attack he remembered prior to his evolution.

"If this is what it means, then...!" Several lightning bolts cried down near the two, hitting rocks and shattering them, sending some small amount of debris flying in the air. "Then, I don't even want to be a Legendary ! Godbolt!"

A large energy ball formed in Rai's muzzle, and his body was encased in random bits of static. Arceus frowned slightly, and charged his own ultimate attack, aimed right at the comparably tiny Pokemon, tired and done playing around. Then, the ball imploded, the sky turned blue, and a pathetically tiny jolt of electricity jettisoned at the equine. The horse raised an eyebrow, wondering if that was really all, holding off his own attack in dismay. Just before it happened, Arceus sensed it - and unleashed his attack at Rai uninhibited. Immediately after, a diagonal, ungodly large bolt of lightning came down against the Judgment, the two attacks clashing together and creating a shockwave in the air with enough force to push people back if they weren't braced for it. The attacks exploded, creating a blinding light.

When the light faded, Arceus stood panting, surprised that he had to actually try that hard against not only any Pokemone, but against anything. In comparison, Rai laid down under a pile of rocks, his face hidden underneath the rubble and debris. He wasn't moving, and more importantly, he wasn't breathing.

Rai. Was. Dead. Legitimately, seriously killed. He had tried his best, put all of his effort into it, and his very life was in his last attack, but it wasn't enough and he was overpowered. It wasn't actually difficult for Arceus, but he had taken the little dog for granted, underestimated him, and been taken by surprise.

Jumping down to Rai's sea level, Arceus slowly walked over to Rai, looking down on him with neither a smirk or a look of regret. It was blank, and the wind blew, dust carried with it as both of the mon's fur rustled in the wind and dirt.

"As he said... you are not bad," the equine admitted. It was little more than a whisper, and his eyes stared harshly down at the overeager Pokemon. He had fought to defend his friends, even against the will of the gods - whom of which he had aspired to be part of - because he believed that their will and plan for the universe was unjust. And that, the desire to go against the established philosophy and doctrine of those above you, more than anything, was the true symbol of a leader. Of a legendary character.

His paw twitched. His eyes cracked open. The "dead" Jolteon shook the rocks off of himself, and he looked around. The opponent he had been fighting was long gone, and it didn't even appear to be the same day. It was the dead of night, and the crickets chirped. "What... What happened?"

All of those who had been easily defeated, whom Rai had in the end stood up to defend, also cracked their eyes open, confused as to how they're able to even breath. But that wasn't even the thing that caught his attention the most. The Jolteon felt imbued. Strengthened. It was an odd feeling, something even he knew and would admit wasn't his own power.

"You have my grace," a voice echoed in Rai's mind. Arceus had acknowledged the worth of his opponent, accepted his unyielding courage and will, something even he as a God could not compare to. And he was given pity, mercy - and power. If he was not a Legendary now, Rai was the next closest thing.
