#2 of The Amazing Race 3

All three flights are in the air. However, the first flight lands in Jacksonville around 11:36 am. Once it does, the six teams inside pile out and run outside where the next clue box is. After collecting their next instructions, Vito reads, "'The search is on'... it's a One-Way!"

One-Way challenges require both team members to participate. In this case, teams must drive all the way to the Sherwood motel in Harvale, North Carolina. They must search one of the motel rooms for an entry pass into the local military base. After that, whoever didn't take the clue must piggyback their partner down the street to the Dunkin' Donuts for their next task.

"Oh great I have to carry my dad?" Mac whines.

Kaleb grabs his son and hoists him on his shoulder. "No time, son. We've got to go."

Tips in paw, the first six teams quickly find taxis and maintain their lead. Since the motel is an hour drive away, by the time the teams get there, the last flight has landed.

"I can't believe we're in last place," Sindy complains.

"Well, what are the odds the tasks won't slow the others down?" Sally points out.

Her partner rolls her eyes. "You make no sense sometimes."

"Just trying to keep things on the bright side."

This just in, those from the first flight have arrived at Sherwood and are beginning the search for the entrance pass. The father/son split up. "Let's hope this isn't too hard," Kaleb says, going through drawers first.

"Well, you lose your garage keys all the time," Mac says. "And where do you normally find those?"

"Under the stove. But there isn't one in here."

In another room, Felix searches underneath a framed work of art while Toby looks around the beds. "Any luck yet?" the former asks.

"No." The tiger sticks his head under one of the beds and sees a red, white, and blue plastic square. "Wait, I think this is it!" He grabs it and stands back up.

"Yes! First place!" the brown fox squeals. As the one who grabbed the tip, he hops on Toby's shoulders and they leave the motel.

The cab drivers have another strategy. They're tearing the room apart. Mostly Donna; she does not want to lose their lead. "Uh... Donna? I'm pretty sure you don't have to do that," Vito says when she starts lifting the bed.

"Well, do you want to slip into last?" Donna asks. A military pass like the one Toby found drops onto the floor from the sheets. "See? Now get on my back, the others could be here by now."

"Try under there." Ren points to a couch. He goes for the curtains while Cal does as he was told. "Anything yet?"

"No!" Cal shouts. "Just a bunch of dust bunnies." At which point, he sneezes.

Judy looks around the TV incase Toner decided to be clever. When he hears a crash, she turns and sees Nick next to a broken base. "Did you really just destroy a piece of property?" she asks.

Nick shrugs. "It's a race, sweetheart; don't like it? Shouldn't have signed up." He looks through the broken glass and finds the pass. "Besides, I found what we're looking for."

The officers, cab drivers and beneficial friends already finished the first challenge. Just in time, too, as those from the second flight have arrived.

"There's the next tip box!" Felix points out. Toby runs them up to it and he hands the next tip to his friend. "It's a Roadblock... 'Pastry Massacre'?"

Roadblocks are challenges only one person from each team can participate in. In this instance, one player from each team must consume half a dozen donuts from the shop. After that, teams must run up Roosevelt Boulevard until they reach Barracks 4199; the first checkpoint in the whole race. Last team to reach there will be heading home.

Toby, Donna, and Judy start the Roadblock as those from flight two arrive at Sherwood. "This is so fun!" Zack exclaims.

"No it's not, we're falling behind," Chris says. He eventually looks under the stove and finds one of the passes. "Come on, let's get in first."

Lucius looks frantically. "If I were something Toner would hide, where would I be stashed?" he asks himself.

"I'm not sure," Max replies. "But I think that it may have something to do the microwave, seeing as I just found a credit card under it." He shows his partner what he found and he glares at him.

"This is the military pass were looking for."

"Oh."

"Hmm... nothing under the soFA: " Bert calls.

"You think we could be able to get away with printing a fake one?" Arnold asks.

"Doubt it. We don't even have the technology otherwise."

"April! I think I found it!" Maggie exclaims. She then takes a closer look at her find. "Never mind! It's a coupon for some hair dressing place!"

"You don't have to yell," April says. She's literally right behind her partner. "Where would Toner hide these things?" She then goes to looks in the bathroom.

Josee & Ryan are still struggling with the challenge. "I told you those from the other flight are on their way," Josee points out. "But no; you said we still had a half an hour."

"Can you just help with the game other than standing there to complain?!" Ryan shouts. He finds the pass under the TV. Then becomes more annoyed that he has to carry Josee.

"I can't believe Toner is making us search through a nasty room just to find a military pass," Majira complains. "He better not make us go through some sort of training."

"Majira?" Echo asks.

"What?"

"I already found what we're looking for." She holds up the card and hops on her friend's shoulders. They're soon joined by Cal & Ren and Kaleb & Mac.

At the Dunkin' Donuts, Toby, Donna, and Judy are still in a fight for first place. "Roadblock," Ren reads. He looks at his partner. "Yeah... you're doing this one."

"Promise?" Cal's expression lights up.

"I'm doing this one," Chris dictates before Zack can get a say. The fox just shrugs.

Mac collapses on the ground after carrying his father. "You want me to do this?" Kaleb asks. His son just nods weakly.

"I'll do this if you want," Ryan suggests. Mostly because after the last challenge, he didn't want to make Josee even more upset.

"Fine," Josee sighs. "Now go out there and show me how it's done." She leans over and kisses his cheek.

The emperors and YouTubers are the next teams to arrive. "I guess I'll do it," Lucius says. "Besides, this wouldn't be the first time I've probably overstuffed myself."

"You should do this one," Echo points out. "After all, you have the larger stomach."

"So I do," Majira whines. Enough whining, he thinks, we're falling behind and need to catch up.

With half the teams starting the Roadblock, the other half are still at Sherwood. Those on flight three arrive at the motel soon and are able to start the One-Way. The race to come out of last has definitely begun.

"Any luck, Chloe?" Parker asks when he's looking under a dresser.

"Not sure," Chloe says. "But how about we try looking... here." She reaches behind her friend's ear and pulls out the pass into the base. "I've still got it!"

"Show off," Parker mutters.

"Ugh, it would help if this place wasn't such a hot mess!" Robin shouts.

"Dude, we're already in last, any more complaining and we could be going home," Mitchell says. The two keep searching underneath furniture.

The actors look underneath the carpet and find it easily. "Seems that Toner uses some classic tactics," Carrie observes.

"Yep." Carla puts the carpet down. "Now let's get out of last place."

Karen wedges her way behind a bookshelf to look behind there. "Umm... I doubt that it's hidden in a hard place like that," Carol says. "After all, how else would the others find the pass so easily?"

"Good point," Karen agrees.

"I know." As Karen gets out from behind the shelf, she looks down and finds a military pass on the floor leaning against the wall. She takes it.

"We were the last to finish in Philadelphia," Sindy says as she searches the room in a panicked way. "We can't lose now!"

"Relax, I found one behind the mirror." Sally holds up the pass. The two rush out and down the street.

"Being stuck on the last flight really slowed us down," Daisy says. She looks around the bed while her partner searches in the kitchen area. "Any luck?!"

"Not yet!" Sa'mone shouts.

Cinnamon is under one of the beds when Pepper pulls on his foot with him having something urgent to say. "What is it?" Pepper asks. He bangs his head on the wall. Cinnamon helps him stand and then shows him he has the pass. "Nice job, buddy." He pays him on the back and gets on his shoulders.

"You're almost done!" Felix cheers. Toby has one donut left to consume. Once he starts the last one, others start to arrive from Sherwood.

"I've got this," Parker says. "Me and my brothers had mini eating contests every time the family had a barbeque. This'll be easy."

"Um... I have diabetes," Carla points out. "Can you...?"

"Of course," Carrie sighs. "I'm used to doing stuff for you."

"A donuts eating challenge?" Carol asks. She laughs. "Toner might as well hand us the win. We're shop owners; this Roadblock was made for us."

The telephone operators arrive next. "I'll do the Roadblock," Sindy announces. Sally stands aside.

"We're done!" Toby says. He heaves Felix onto his shoulders and starts running up Roosevelt Boulevard. He hands the pass to the coyote manning the entrance and continues jogging. "See the checkpoint anywhere?"

"No. Not yet." Felix looks straight ahead and squints his eyes when he thinks he sees something. "Wait... there it is!!!" Toner stands in front of the Barracks with a new rug (gold with a blue globe logo on it). Toby carries them until they're standing directly on it.

"Beneficial friends, Toby & Felix; you're the first team to arrive," Toner announces. "Congrats."

"Woohoo!!!" Toby swings his friend off of him and kisses him on the nose. "This is awesome! We won!"

"It's only the first leg, Kitty," Felix points out. But he smiles anyways. Neither of the boys expected to take the win the first day.

Back at the shop, the officers seem to be locking up second place. "C'mon, Carrots, it's a Roadblock; I can't help you," Nick encourages.

"I'm sorry," Judy breathes. "It's just I've never done this sort of thing before." Her stomach cramps are starting to come back.

"Almost there, Vito." Donna's heart races faster as she starts her last donut.

"This challenge is so easy," Cal says. He munches away without any troubles. Others like Chris, Majira, and Lucius are having trouble finishing.

"Huh, looks like an eating challenge," Pepper says once the strippers get the tip. "I'll do it if you want." Cinnamon nods. The computer geeks and the baristas show up next.

"I've got it!" Daisy volunteers. "Me and a few friends used to do this sort of thing back at the cafe."

"Well, considering you have a larger stomach capacity, I suggest you do this challenge," Arnold says. Mostly because he doesn't want to do this himself.

"That's fine." Bert smiles and goes to join the others who are mostly done.

"I'm finished!" Judy says. But she doubles over when her stomachache gets to her.

Nick shakes his head and says, "Never leave anyone behind." He picks her up again, tosses her over his shoulders and runs out and onto Roosevelt Boulevard. "You doing ok, Judy?"

"It hurts!" she exclaims. "Why would anyone want to do this?!" She hears a snicker in the form of a New York accent. Looking up, she sees Vito carrying Donna and they're catching up fast!

"Ok, I feel better, you can put me down," Donna says. Vito complies and they continue chasing the cops past the entrance.

"Done!" Ryan exclaims.

Cal finishes his last donut. "Also finished!" As teams start to complete the Roadblock, the officers and cab drivers are in a foot race for the next spot.

"Put. Me. Down!" Judy yells.

"No time, pal!" Nick replies. Vito & Donna are still slowly catching up, but the red fox is still going for it as full speed. He came into the race to bond with his partner more and isn't about to let these two strangers knock them down more. Toner and the checkpoint come into view. The gold carpet is in Nick's sight. Making a beeline for it, he leaps and lands.

"I don't remember calling for any cops," Toner teases. "I'm joking. You're the second team to arrive; nice job."

"Yes!" Nick cheers and walks him and Judy off. A smiling Vito & Donna then step on.

"Well, cabbies," Toner puts some strain on that word, "I didn't expect you to take 3rd, but that's still pretty good."

Donna noticeably twitches and makes a fist when she hears that dreaded word.

Josee & Ryan- 4th place

Max & Lucius- 5th place

Karen & Carol- 6th place

Cal & Ren- 7th place

Carla & Carrie- 8th place

Cinnamon & Pepper- 9th place

Echo & Majira- 10th place

"Eleventh."

"Eleventh?" Chris asks, shocked. He then turns to Zack. "You need to start doing more, man, we're losing!"

"I know that!" Zack shouts. "Please let me do more stuff; I want to help!" Chris groans and rolls his eyes.

***

"We have to eat a half dozen of these things?!" Mitchell asks. "That's nonsense.... Oh well." He chows down.

"Here, you do it," April says. "You know I'm on that diet that prohibits me from eating too much sugary foods."

"I understand," Maggie complies.

Mac still can barely find any strength to get up, yet his dad is almost finished with the Roadblock. "You ok there, Sport?" Kaleb asks. Mac tries to nod, but ends up shaking his head.

"I never thought I'd ever have to be in a scenario where I would have to carry my dad," Mac mutters.

"I'm finished. Let's go!"

"I can't. Just let me lie here and die." Kaleb grows more worried. More teams are already done.

***

"Twelfth place," Toner announces. Chloe & Parker whoop and hug each other.

Arnold & Bert- 13th place

Sindy & Sally- 14th place

Sa'mone & Daisy- 15th place

That leaves the mothers, parade organizers, and father/son. One of these teams will be the first to head home.

"Spud, we're in last place." Kaleb continues with the pep talk. "If we don't move now, we're going to go home." Mac starts to find some inner strength to get up.

"And we're done!" Maggie says. Her and April start to run up the Boulevard.

"I'm done!" Mitchell says.

"Great, now let's go!" Robin urges. The parade organizers then catch up. Kaleb, as a last resort, picks up Mac and carries him over.

"I just hope we're not too late," Kaleb says. The three teams make it past the entrance and run as fast as they can up Roosevelt. The mothers continue their lead, but the organizers and father/son are hot on their trail. April & Maggie summon up any strength they can muster and they arrive at the golden carpet.

"Nice job mothers, you're sixteenth," Toner declares. "And here goes seventeenth..."

"Did we make it already?" Kaleb asks. Then he collapses onto the rug with his son cradled in his arms.

"Medical!" Toner shouts. "Can we get these sweaty people out of here?!" At that moment, the last team finally shows up. Toner shakes his head. "Mitchell & Robin, I'm sorry boys, but we've got no more room for you here. You're done."

"Awww man!" Robin whines.

***

"I guess we could've done better," Mitchell says as they walk away from the military base. "Plus we got to try traveling a little."

"It was fun while it lasted," Robin says. "The money would've been nice, but I'm just glad I get to say I did this with my very good friend."

"Awww. Want to go home and see what's next for us?"

"Hell yeah!"
