#2 of The Life of Another - Sandbox

Hi all,

This seemed too corny after I wrote it so I gave it the axe. Nonetheless I thought it might be fun to toss it in this folder at least until Chapter 33 gets officially posted. Nothing like it will be happening in the story so it's not a spoiler.

P.O.V. Roger - Steven's hospital room, talking with Natsume

"That was just something I picked up from a video I found on the internet." I said dismissively. "I've always wanted to learn more but I've never been able to afford formal training. And there's not really anyone to practice with at school."

The Natsume I remember could never pass up a hard-luck story. Come on, this is the perfect excuse for us to get a chance to be alone!

True to my expectations, Natsume didn't hesitate. "That is unfortunate. Would you mind showing me the move you were doing with Steven?"

Hmm, wasn't expecting this but ok... "I uh, asked Steven to grab the front of my shirt with both hands."

"Like this?" he said, grasping my shirt gently.

"Yeah," I said while slowly going through the maneuver. "Then I just pivoted at the waist and grabbed one of his hands like..."

"He's at it again!" Mr. Hampton called out in his caustic voice. "Better be careful Roger-boy. He's the type that might like that sort of thing!"

I had been so focused on Natsume that I hadn't noticed the return of the Hamptons and Ms. Thurlington until they were crowding the doorway. Startled, I quickly released his hand but before I could explain what was going on, Natsume intervened.

"Alvin, I trust your arm has mended well since we last spoke?"

Mr. Hampton's ears laid back. "Any time you want to finish that discussion, you know where to find me."

Natsume's tone stayed as calm as ever. "Roger was just showing me the move he was demonstrating for Steven the other night." He turned to face me. "An excellent example Roger. I am truly impressed. The way you finish up the lock is strikingly similar to the rather non-standard method I often prefer. And it is quite effective, as Alvin can personally atest." He grinned subtly and turned his attention back to Mr. Hampton.
