Chapter 1 Cynder shivered in the chill air of the morning. The sound of rain drops splashing onto the temple roof gave a light background noise in the otherwise silent room, except for the quiet breathing of the young dragons, she rolled over slowly and looked at the sleeping form across from her and sighed. Since their battle with the dark master four months ago, both Spyro and she had grown. She had retained her speed, but she had become much stronger, and her body had started to curve in ways it seemed would be appealing to males. Spyro though had become much more muscular, not only in what he could lift but also in sight, Cynder caught herself staring at him and looked away, an all too obvious blush on her face even in the small amount of light the storm clouds allowed to filter through . This was rather routine for her now, but she just couldn't help it, his body was so, so. She shook her head and tried to clear the thoughts from her head, which, also as usual, proved difficult. She fished around in her head for something to take her mind off him, she tried to remember what it was she had dreamt of last night, she could almost remember. A door, there was something strange about it but she couldn't't remember, the handle slowly twisting and then..... Cynder squealed in fright as a flash of lightning lit up the room, and a loud rumble sounded, shaking the temple. Spyro was lost in thought, pondering what his dream could mean. A door, slowly swirling with the colors black, gold, purple and red. The knob slowly turned and the door creaked open, emitting hate, pain, anger, misery, hopelessness and so many other things that Spyro couldn't describe as anything less than pure emotion. Disgusting, evil negative emotions, enough so as to almost drive Spyro insane just thinking about it, he had been in some tough spots before, and a lot of bad stuff had happened, but none of what he felt could even start to compare to it. Spyro sighed inwardly; there was something that he wasn't remembering, something that had come out of that door. He racked his brains, trying to find it. Come on, come on, he thought to himself, he was on the verge of remembering, he could swear it but he was interrupted by a squeal and an earth shaking rumble. Spyro eyes shot open and he jumped up, ready to fight and looking for Cynder, he looked around and found only a startled dragoness before him. He relaxed from his stance and hurried to Cynder; he lay down beside her and placed a comforting wing over her back, she looked up at him with scared eyes and he gave her a happy smile. "It's okay" he whispered to her quietly "nothings here to hurt you". Cynder shivered as his strong voice washed over her and she instantly relaxed under his wing. She'd had several frights since the fight with the dark master, awakening from nightmares of torture, of being chased by bands of angry apes, even a dark Spyro, that one had been her worst. She had not had any for awhile now though; it seemed as if they had finally stopped. A cold wind rushed through the room and Cynder shivered again, she instinctively moved to the warmest place, which in this case happened to be Spyro. She felt his scales press up against her and instantly the cold was gone, replaced instead with happy warmth and a blush as well. She looked up at him and found a small blush on his face to. "Sorry" she squeaked, she attempted to stand but Spyro used his wing to pull her against him, much to her surprise. She looked at him with raised eyebrows and his blush grew slightly, but other than that obvious sign he didn't't let his embarrassment show. "I don't mind" he said tactfully "I can tell you're scared, and cold. I really don't mind, in fact I-" he was cut off as a knock sounded on the door, they separated from each other, much to both their dislike and Spyro acknowledged the visitor. The door creaked open and Volteer's head poked through the gap, the look on his face made Spyro and Cynder stiffen slightly, something was up, something important. "There is a strange phenomenon out here that I and the others believe you would be interested in" Volteer said, Spyro and Cynder shot a glance at each other. Creepy. They left their room and rounded the corner, almost running into Terrador's back, the large green dragon looked down at them with his usual straight face, not unfriendly but hiding his thoughts and feelings better than any of the others had seen, little did they know that was one of the many things due to change. "What's up?" Spyro asked, Terrador looked back at whatever he and the other guardians had been studying so intently on the wall. The two dragons looked at each other again, something really strange was happening. They wonderingly walked passed the thinking green dragon and stopped dead at the sight of a new door on the wall. The door was exactly what Spyro had dreamt of, black, gold, purple and red moved slowly across the door as if of there own will, black seemed to be the most dominant, covering much more than half the door, almost a third of it was black, though he couldn't be certain as it was spread out over different areas. Spyro shuddered as he remembered the emotions he'd felt leaking out of whatever was behind this door, whatever it was it had felt dangerous. He was snapped out of his contemplation as the door handle turned swiftly and the door swung open to reveal a human. Ryan stretched as his mind slowly kicked into gear for another depressing day. He sat up slowly and shivered as an unexpected cold washed over him, the weather report had predicted a rather warm day, and being in Australia it was expected, he could hear the rain falling on the roof but the cold he could feel was sharper than what he was used to. He was so caught off by the cold that he almost didn't notice the unusual weight around his neck. He glanced down at it, still thinking of the unseasonable cold when it became apparent what exactly was making him so cold. A silver chain came around from the edges of his vision to meet in almost the exact centre of his chest, where a purple pentagram lined with black and red runes was clasped in the grasp of a purple and gold dragon. Ryan sat for awhile, studying it, but he could make no sense of the writing on it, nor how it could have gotten there. With a shrug he lent over to the window and drew back the heavy curtains to reveal a glorious storm. He raised his brow in interest as he surveyed not the usual canal/suburban area he was used to, but a forest of many trees bushes and, this really intrigued him, giant mushrooms. He was quite high up, on his left was a wall that stretched as far up as it did down, which was surely as far up as down and was the only thing his room seemed to be connected to. "Weird" he said to himself quietly, he didn't spend long at the window, barely a minute, before he turned back to his room to look for any other strange things. The blue walls and white roof were in great contrast to his red furniture, he still remembered the day it had been painted. He wanted it black, but it was to ‘depressing' and ‘uninviting' said his parents, idiots both of them, always all over him, always correcting every little mistake, and they said things that made him seethe inside at their own stupidity, which they seemed immune to. He stared at his door absent mindedly as his general thoughts took-over when something snapped him back into place, his door wasn't next to his bed. It was over on the other side of the room, as well it would seem. He hoped up from his bed and put on some of his casual clothes, though he still wore the necklace. it was a school day but he didn't think he was going to school today, he walked over to his normal door and swung it open to reveal..........the second story of his house, nothing special there. He turned back into his room and approached the unexplained door, which was an exact replica of his other door, and swung open the door without a moment's hesitation. "Morning" said the human in an even tone "what's up?" "It talks" exclaimed Cyril in surprise. Ryan shifted his gaze to fix on Cyril, his face was still normal but his eyes betrayed his anger, and when he spoke it was quietly but as icy as Cyril's breath. "IT has a name, and yes IT can talk, so maybe IT would prefer to be called by that name, than the title IT". Cyril stuttered violently, trying to find some sort of reply to the unexpected anger, everyone stared at Ryan, the elders in surprise (surprise at Cyril being so quickly put into his place, but surprise none the less) Spyro in curiosity, and Cynder in anger. For when Ryan had said that she had seen something........evil. And it was just like the dark master, like a shadow that had hung over the human, even if for only a split second; she let out a loud growl and, before the others could react, jumped at Ryan, and connected with fresh air. Ryan grunted as his shoulder smashed against the wall from his last second dodge, he'd seen her coming at the last possible moment that he could dodge her. She landed a few meters away and whipped around to face Ryan with an enraged look. Ryan readied himself as she bent for another jump, she sprang again and Ryan dropped to the floor, rolling under her, and sprang up as quick as he could to run down the hall. Cynder meanwhile had sailed onward straight into Spyro, but even as they came to a rest she jumped back up and ran after Ryan, closely followed by the other dragons. Ryan turned left into a large circular room with a giant dragon statue that dominated most of the room's space, but Ryan was a little more focused on escape as a fireball flew past his head. He had spotted an exit to outside and he quickly head for it, but even as he ran out into the storm he found himself on a balcony a hundred feet above the ground, and without a stair case. He turned quickly and was confronted by the angry black dragoness, whom had learned from her previous mistakes and slowly walked towards him, instead of jumping at him. The other dragons came into view behind her and watched on as the oblivious dragoness focused solely on the human before her. "So" Ryan said calmly, clearly addressing the other dragons, though he kept his eyes on Cynder "anyone mind giving me a hand before I don't have any?" "Cynder, don't hurt him" said Spyro pleadingly "I don't want to hurt you, but I will if you don't stop" Cynder ignored him completely and continued her advance on the wary human, now almost within striking distance. Spyro sighed and quickly charged up a small lighting attack, just enough to stun her for awhile, and loosed it at her half-heartedly. Cynder, whom was actually more aware of her situation than it seemed, heard the crackling of electricity and rolled to the left. Unfortunately for Ryan he wasn't prepared for her to dodge it, and it hit him squarely in the chest. Ryan grunted in pain as he felt his muscles spasm, contorting his body into many positions, until they finally settled on splayed out, giving him the look of a crucified criminal. He dimly noticed that for some reason he was no longer on the ground, and he could hear scattered voices as the pain continued to pulse across his entire body. "What the.........Spyro sto....... Can't st......getting weaker......SPYRO...Cynder no!" all of a sudden the force of electricity that flowed through him seemed to become twice as intense and he groaned. But that wasn't the worst part. "What the hell!" exclaimed Terrador, Spyro's attack seemed to have made a yellow energy stream from him to the human, and even as it visibly coursed across his body it seemed drawn back to the spot of initial contact, to the medallion around his neck. "Spyro stop" shouted Ignitus "Can't stop" Spyro said breathlessly, even though he had stopped the blast from his mouth the energy seemed to flow right out of him and he sunk to his knees, "I'm, getting weaker". "SPYRO!" Cynder screamed, she had recovered from her hasty roll and now dashed towards Spyro recklessly. "Cynder No" yelled Ignitus, but it was too late. Even as she came within a foot of Spyro and the energy stream she stopped dead and groaned as she felt her energy being leached, it rushed out of her, joining with Spyro's and intensifying it, as well as adding some black and red to the already gold and purple flecked yellow energy stream. Then, without warning, the stream changed from yellow to red, shortly after it changed to a whitish blue aura, then a sickly green glow. Spyro and Cynder passed out from the energy drain and jut as it seemed to be dieing out, it sent a final pulse of the original yellow, severing the connection with the two unconscious dragons and disappearing into the now seemingly unconscious human. The elders sighed, it was over, time to tend to the injured parties. But even as they stepped forwards something sent alarm bells off in Volteer's head, and he quickly sent out a negative electron shock wave even as the lighting bolt arced down from the sky, He had been quick enough to cover everyone, except the mysterious human. He couldn't help but wonder what happened, though what could help him was the resulting blast from the strong electric forces that knocked him, and the others, out, and into the calm embrace of unconsciousness. The pain of his crawling skin soon gave way to a burning agony, and it was all Ryan could do not to yell out. After what seemed like only a few seconds the heat gave way to a bitter cold that chilled him right down to his marrow, and then all he could feel was dusty, heavy and solid as a rock. And then it ebbed away suddenly, growing less and less with each passing second, he thought that the pain was over and gave an inward sigh of relief when a pulse of the first energy stuck him and then it was gone. He felt himself fall to the balcony floor and was all to glad to submit himself to the black unconsciousness when he felt the same electrical pain again, all at once, and a thousand times worse again. He felt his skin bubble furiously and his muscles explode in protest of the electrical overcharge, But it was only for an instant then, nothing...... ____________________________________________________________________ There we go, hope y'all enjoy it
