Hair Dye and Iced Coffee

Story by SevenElevenMan on SoFurry

Avery goes out with Niall to buy some hair dye, and they end up buying iced coffee, and a tea cake. My first OC couple. Don't read if you don't like gay pairings.

Welcome everyone! I'm Ridlius, and I'm glad to welcome ya'll to my first original furry work! This features my OC couple, Avery Nichols and Niall Glais. If you don't like malexmale pairings... GET THE HELL OUT! Just kidding, but yeah. Everyone's got their own opinion.

*So, in this one-shot, Avery's getting his hair done, because Avery has dark red hair, but has gotten brighter red done to a few of the locks of his hair. If you've seen my character section, you'll know which is which. Niall is a grey rabbit, and Avery's a dark red fox. *

Warm sunlight streamed in through the bedroom windows, heralding the arrival of a new day. The sunlight immediately confused Niall. It had stormed and rained for the past three days, and now all of a sudden it was sunny?

Niall didn't bother questioning the logic of the weather. Sitting up, he rubbed his eyes, blinking a couple of times, and let out a sigh. It looked like today would be a bit steamy or humid. It always was when it was sunny in the winter.

Niall was staring out the window at the sun that was illuminating every one of his features, practically filling them with warmth, including the deep scar that ran down his front. He glanced down at it, tracing it with a paw, and wondering why somebody attempted to kill him in the first place. He winced slightly, but not from pain. He just didn't like thinking that much into the matter.

The bedroom door opened, and in came the dark red fox, who was carrying two mugs full of steaming coffee, which he set on the dresser next to Niall. The fox smirked to himself, kissing the rabbit's forehead softly, chuckling, "Wakey-wakey, Niall."

"Hello there, Avery," Niall replied, his dark blue eyes rolling, and then narrowing slightly. "You didn't get out of bed earlier then me just so you could make me coffee, did you?"

"I did, didn't I?" Avery said, folding his arms, and kneeling down next to the bed, "You know, that's not the only reason."

"What's the other reason?" Niall asked, sipping the coffee absentmindedly. Avery shrugged his shoulders, and replied, "Oh, the other reason is that I'm getting some of my hair done. Just a few locks."

"Sounds cool. What color?" Niall asked, brushing some of the locks of his own hair out of his face. "The locks I'm getting done are gonna be a brighter red then my normal hair color," The dark red fox answered.

Niall nodded in reply. "By the way, afterwards, can we stop by that café?" The grey-furred rabbit asked, his eyes locking with the fox's. Avery nodded. "I don't see why not. What for, though?"

Niall chuckled. "It's a surprise." Avery rolled his eyes. "Smart bunny. Well, meet me downstairs in a few minutes, okay?"

Niall sank back down into bed, replying, "Okay." Once the fox had closed the door, and retreated into the kitchen, Niall sighed to himself, sitting up again. The rabbit got out of bed, and opened his wardrobe. He picked out a long-sleeved dark blue shirt, and drank the rest of his coffee. He opened his bedroom door, and took his empty cup to the kitchen, putting it in the sink. He didn't feel particularly hungry today, so he just had a piece of toast.

After cleaning up all the things, he met Avery in the living room. Avery was trying to put on his mint-green bow-tie, but failing. He was cursing under his breath as his tail wagged in frustration.

Niall smirked softly as he pressed a kiss to the back of the fox's neck, hearing him gasp in surprise. He put a paw on the fox's shoulder, speaking in his smoothest voice, his English accent lacing his tone. "Here love, let me help you with that."

"It's impossible to get those things on," Avery replied in a grumpy sort of voice. Niall rolled his eyes as he adjusted the fox's bow-tie a little tighter, and slipped it down his neck a little further.

"There," Niall said, spinning the fox around to face him. Avery rolled his eyes, but chuckled softly. "Alright. Let's go."

The store was not what you'd call crowded, but it was definitely almost filled with customers. Niall looked unamused as his eyes glanced over the aisles of the store.

"You said you were getting your hair done," Niall said, turning to look at Avery, who just smiled in return.

"I was," He said, taking the rabbit's paw, "I'm getting it done by you. I thought that'd be a more pleasant experience on the whole."

"You really just know how to annoy me sometimes, don't you, Avery?" The rabbit replied, sighing and trying to get him to start walking. The fox chuckled. "I sure do."

"Whatever, let's just find the hair dye," Niall said impatiently, practically dragging the fox towards the aisle that held things like toothpaste, toothbrushes, hair care products, and the like. This particular store also sold hair dye. Nothing really special, just red, black, and blonde. The normal kinds of dyes. You had to get seriously specific and go to a hairdresser's if you wanted blue, green, or anything really uncommon like teal.

Passing a few rows of hair conditioner, Niall finally noticed the hair dyes. Avery spent five whole agonizing minutes debating which red was better, vermillion, or carmine red. Eventually, he ended up settling for carmine red. Niall picked up two bottles of the stuff in case, and then asked, "Do you want a drink or something?"

Avery's ears perked at the sound of the word 'drinks' "Yeah, an iced coffee!" The grey rabbit smiled fondly at him, and picked up two iced coffees, because Niall could never say no to any kind of coffee.

Taking all their items to the cashier, it was all quickly paid for, and then Niall managed to direct Avery's attention to waiting outside the café that he'd asked to go to.

Because Niall had a surprise for his beautiful fox.

It turned out, the both of them liked a tea cake loaf, which was iced with cinnamon sprinkled on the top of it, that only this café sold. They charged a full five dollars for one of them, so Niall had made sure to bring enough to afford all the things.

Walking into the café, Niall was surprised at how roomy it was now. They'd done a remodeling of the place, and had put in new windows, and painted the walls a black that really suited it. There was a radio somewhere, and was set to some music station. A few plants had been put on the counter for aesthetic purposes most likely, and then there were those paintings of forests and such on the wall.

Trying not to take in the aura of the place too much, Niall quickly bought a loaf of the stuff, and left the café. Avery was still waiting outside, and upon glimpsing the loaf in Niall's paws, he immediately hugged the rabbit tightly, kissing him softly on the lips. "I had a feeling you were getting one of those..." He whispered, caressing the rabbit's hair. Niall chuckled slightly, mumbling, "Avery... this looks awkward..."

The fox laughed, and then they set off for home. They eventually finished off their iced coffees, and the loaf was next. However, their expectations for the day were changed by a sudden bang of thunder from up in the dark clouds, which had just gathered. Neither had noticed due to them both being busy talking as they walked home. The rain fell almost instantly. It soaked both animals, and Niall groaned, flipping off the sky. "I thought it'd be sunny today..."

"The weather is deceiving," Avery said, "Remember that, Niall."

"Yeah. I'll remember that. Except in summer, where they always tell you how hot it is," The rabbit huffed.

Once they got home, they dropped everything on the kitchen counter. Avery grabbed a fluffy towel from the bathroom, and dried himself and Niall off. The rain was really tiring for some reason, because just as Avery sat down next to Niall, in fresh, dry clothes, he started feeling drowsy.

"Niall..." Avery murmured, closing his eyes. The grey rabbit replied, "Yes...?"

"I think I'm gonna pass out. I'm so tired right now. I cannot even keep my eyes open," Avery muttered. The rabbit chuckled quietly. "I feel the same way. Maybe a little less tired though."

The rabbit leaned over, and kissed Avery softly. They kissed passionately for what seemed like an eternity, before breaking apart, and falling asleep, arms wrapped around each other.

"I really love you, Avery..." Niall muttered, slowly lapsing into sleep. The fox smiled to himself, replying, "Love you too, Niall..."

So, there it was! My first Avery x Niall story! Hope ya'll enjoyed it. As I've said, it's my first time doing my couple. If you guys want to use both Avery or Niall, PM me. If I don't reply, well that's because I'm so new to SoFurry I don't know all the mechanics inside out yet. But, in the meantime, enjoy this!
