Pondering the Horizon

A lonely dragon with someone very important on his mind ponders about his love as he wakes up one morning.

A soft exhale is all that can be heard as a lone dragon lies down in his bed, illuminated by the light of the sun breaching his window. A toned arm crossed over his head, the bed sheets in tangles, and legs thrown over the edge of the bed haphazardly it is easy to tell that he had a rather rough night. Blue eyelids open to reveal a pair of golden eyes set into his skull, and as he leans up a hand is brought to his aching head. His black claws trace over the mask like bone formation he had been born with, trailing up to the tip of one of his horns. Arms bracing into the bed, they are used as support to help him lift himself up into a sitting position. His turquoise scales glistened with sweat, and his black scaled chest gleaned with the perspiration he had been drenched in. Solemn eyes glance out the glass panel to observe the outside world. He had been dreaming again: dreaming of that person that he had treasured so much in his life. The one thing that, despite how much he desired, he knew he could never have. Jagged spikes that ran along his back would tingle as his mind recalls what had taken place in his dreams. The thought of being close to he who the dragon loved most. No matter how much his feelings developed, the dreams always amounted to nothing more than cuddling, and embracing each other's presence. It was through this that he realized he was completely in love, when the thought of merely basking in the sight of that male alone was enough to make him feel like this.

Throwing his legs over the bed, the reptile would stand up. Arms stretching out to work out any built up tension in his muscles, he let out a yawn. Sitting back on the edge of the bed with his clawed feet firmly planted on the floor boards of his room, his eyes fell down to stare at the polished wooden surface. Gaze lingering on the slightly reflective surface: the image of his draconic body outlined, with a few minute details, greeted him. A hesitant smile dances across his lips at what he saw, and before too long his gaze would return to the window. Only for him to be greeted once again by his image in the reflective glass panel. His masked face staring back at him with the bright eyes that he saw every time he looked into a mirror. While trying to push it to the back of his mind, his stare finally took notice of all that nature had laid before him to see. Eyes looking past the glass, he ignored all that was within the room in which he was currently confined.

Beginning to focus on the outside world, he smiled at the sight of all the life that was presented before him. A nice view of a country side complete with rolling hills, the tips of mountain tops, and even a view of the ocean in the far off distance. While sitting there overlooking the scenery he was presented with, thoughts soon began to drift through his mind; the horizon being the primary factor for this. Unsure of what could have prompted this to begin, it was too late to stop it as the imagery flooded his head. No matter how much his heart may belong to that male, he knew that no love could be born from it. Everything he saw was nothing more than a lie he happily lived in the dream world. He was nothing more than the lowly earth, while his dear heart was the endless sky that forever stood out of reach. Despite how hard he would try, he could never hope to achieve gaining the love that he so craved. Just like no matter how high mountain tips could stretch upwards, the most they could ever hope to do was breach the clouds. They were the hands of the land that prayed they could one day latch onto the sky that lie just out of their grasp. The filthy dust ridden earth didn't have a chance of being with its beloved blue heavens above. The most it could ever do, was hang onto the illusion of them meeting together along the horizon.
