Never trust a stranger without taking great caution

There once was a Lemur, innocent, kind and, yet, sadly naive. His name was Barten, and he was rather wealthy, having inherited his wealth. One day, he came across a Bloodhound, cunning and soulless. That Bloodhound's name was Javier. Javier proposed a quite generous deal: Barten would give Javier the money he needed to travel and search for Barten's true love. In exchange, Javier would give her over to Barten for marriage. Barten accepted the deal, and the money given was all the money that Barten inherited. Having not earned any more money, he was subsisting off of that alone. Javier left town, rather wealthy from the money, and never returned. Had Barten had somebody keep track of Javier, he would have known that Javier used the money to buy, among other things, the plot of land on which he resided from then on. Javier then spent quite some time living off of the money people gave him as donations or for work. After that, other stories will probably fill you in.
