Here is a nice Zootopia story for April Fools day. It was meant to be a short story but I couldn't stop myself. This story does contain little spoilers from the movie.

Enjoy

Judy and Nick had been on the force for six months now and together they have solved fifteen cases. Chief Bogo was so impressed that he gave them there own office. Plus as an added benefit a lot less animals concern him now with their little meager problems giving him more time to enjoy his Gazelle app. It took three months of working with Judy before Nick popped the question. They just got done arresting the weasel for the third time. This time they caught him selling stolen jewelry and as he got hauled off in a squad car Nick tripped and went toppling down to the ground. Judy looked down and saw that he tripped over a little box. A few of the other officers were there and they watched with anticipation for Nick called ahead and asked for an audience. Judy slowly picked up the box, her heart was beating extremely fast with hope. She opened it and saw a violet colored diamond ring cut into the shape of a carrot. Her face flushed red with joy and happiness when she looked up she saw Nick down on one knee. "Carrots will you marry m..." was all he got to say before Judy tackled him back onto the ground and locked their lips in an embrace that seemed to go on forever.

Their lips finally parted when they heard their fellow officers shouting out and banging on their cars in joy. "So I'll take that as a yes. Oh and if you don't want the carrot I know the guy at the jewelry store and he said he would change it for no extra cost." he whispered to her as he saw her eyes start to glisten. "It's perfect you dumb fox I just never thought this day would come. My parents are going to freak when they heard I married a fox." she whispered back as she wiped her eyes. "Well if you don't want it I do know a beautiful artic fox in the Tundra district." he said as she started to get off him. Quicker than his eye could follow she punched him in the arm. As she stood up Nick just sat there looking a little hurt while rubbing his arm. Judy smiled and offered him a hand up. When they were both on their feet she said "You'll have to fight me to get it back because I am never taking it off." She slipped it on her finger and watched as the sun caught the jewel. Hand in hand they walked back to their car among the congratulating officers.

When they had both their doors shut Judy looked over at Nick and asked "It is real right?" He gave her look of shock and said "Of course it's real just don't get it wet." She gave him a suspicious look and slowly put it against her tongue expecting it to be some form of candy but what she tasted was a flavorless rock. "You know your cute when you don't believe me." he said while flashing his dazzling smile. She knew that she had been played and tried to punch him again but to her amazement he caught it. "I recommend you learn some new moves Carrots because this punching thing is getting old." he told her as he let her have the hand back. As the vehicle started up Nick felt an object smack his arm. He looked over at Judy who had both hands on the steering wheel. She smiled at him and said "I thought I told you to stop calling me Carrots and I recommend you never take yours eyes off a bunny." He looked up and saw her right ear was flapping at him. "Well Ms. Hopps I'm impressed. I guess I'll have to watch my back around you." "Oh I wouldn't worry about your back because it's your front I want." she whispered into the steering wheel. He smiled and began to ponder her last remark as he saw the hints of another blush spreading to her checks.

Nick was pacing outside the guest bathroom door in quite luxurious home. He knew what Judy was doing he just didn't know the answer yet. He was so nervous that he started to feel sick so he slid down the wall and sat on the floor wrapping his tail protectively around himself. Judy was on the other side of the door waiting on the results of a pregnancy test. As she waited to see if that line would appear or not she let herself daydream back to her wedding day.

The weather was perfect outside for a wedding in the town of Bunnyburrow but it was also a great day to be in the fields. Judy had an hour to kill before the wedding started and she was using the time to catch up with her mother. "Mom where is dad, I thought he said he was going to be here?" "He is honey he just wanted to get some field work done before, seeing that it is such a beautiful day today." She just sighed at the thought of her farther working in the fields on his daughter's special day. "Don't blame him honey after all he was working the fields when you were born." her mother said. "You mean dad didn't even know I was born?" "Yep he didn't know till he came home that night and I surprised him. After all we are good at multiplying, I actually think he loses count on how many kids he has sometimes." Judy felt a smile spread across her face as she remembered saying that to Nick on her first case. "I have a question for you mom and be honest what do you think of me marrying a fox?" "Well I thought your farther was going to die of a heart attack because it is one thing to work with a fox but to marry one? Well they do say opposites attract, so I'm happy for you and your farther is too." Judy saw a huge dressed up polar bear coming toward them and she had to cover up a smile as she saw her mother take and involuntary step backward. The polar bear lowered his hands and Judy saw an old friend standing there it was Mr. Big's daughter. "Judy I'm sorry to bother you but we have to get you ready for the wedding." she said and snapped her fingers. Judy watched as the polar bear whisked her away towards the house. "I'm sorry to leave this conservation mom but I have to go get ready." "Go on dear this is your special day and don't worry about your farther he will show up hopefully before the wedding." "I hope so, I need someone to walk me down that aisle." she called back as she jogged towards the house.

Judy was alone in the house when she heard the wedding bells start up. She carefully tapped her foot in irritation because her farther had not shown up yet. She sighed at the thought of making that walk by herself. "Maybe he will make it after all I have walk to the front of the house." she thought hopefully as she carefully made her way through the house. As she got to the front door with still no sign of her farther, she took in a big breath and prepared to do the walk alone. She opened the screen door and let it slam behind her. She released the breath as all the faces of the guests turned as one to watch her on this day. She saw her future husband standing up at the altar looking ridiculous in his tux. She smiled at the sight and just as she was about to take her first step she heard a voice call out "Wait I'm here, don't start yet." Judy turned slightly and saw her farther race around the corner of the house still trying to throw on his jacket. He came up to her and started to apologize when she cut him off with a shake of her head. "It's okay daddy, Mom told me and I can't blame you after all it is a beautiful day." He breathed a huge sigh of relief and together arm in arm they walked up the aisle as the music started up. Judy just couldn't stop grinning because not only was it the best day of her life but her farther forgot to clean his feet before he showed up. She saw little poofs of dust pop up every time he took a step.

Nick Wilde watched his bride walk up the aisle. She was cute when he first saw her but now she was gorgeous. She was wearing a beautiful white dress with a decorative violet swirl design that seemed to have no end. As she stepped up to the alter he locked eyes with her and found himself falling in love all over again. For those violet eyes seemed to promise love and a sense of mystery that said however long you stare you will never completely figure me out. As he received her hand he said to her farther "She told me it was your idea that she bring the fox repellant. So let me ask you, do you think she still needs it?" "I was so busy watching out for a daughter. That I didn't see her become the woman she grew up to be." he said with his voice breaking. "You have done your job of watching her but now it's my turn." Nick said as Judy let go of her father's hand. "I know you will take good care of her, even though you are a fox." the farther said with a smile and went to sit down next to his wife. Hand in hand they stepped up to the altar where Yax cleared his throat and began the wedding ceremony.

As Yax went through the first part Judy was just thankful that they managed to convince him to shower and to throw on some losse fitting shorts. After they said their vows to one another Judy slipped on Nick's ring. It was a beautiful fire opal stone set into a black and red gold band. Then Nick slipped on her beautiful violet carrot diamond ring. "I now pronounce you fox and bunny." They locked into an embrace and they could hear the guests erupt into a chorus of cheers and roars. They broke apart and smile at one another as husband and wife.

Nick looked up from his arms and let his gaze wander over the home again. It truly was a nice home that had huge arched walkways and tall ceilings. The reason why the main living area of the house had to be huge was because Mr. Big bought it for them as a wedding gift. His mind also wandered back to that day and recalled a few of the other wedding gifts they received. At the reception Judy couldn't figure out why the back section of the barn was screened off but she didn't let that little matter ruin her special day. As the guests came forward and presented gifts to the new couple Nick noticed a huge polar bear bearing Mr. Big coming up the line. He swallowed out of fear because old habits were hard to break. As the bear set down Mr. Big Nick braced himself "I come to you on this glorious day to offer you a gift." He clapped his hands and the bear set a piece of paper down between Judy and Nick. They both looked at the paper saying they were owners of a new house that was completely paid for. Nick started to protest but Mr. Big interrupted him "Please don't say anything Nick for you are in my good graces and it is only with my love for your wife that I'm doing this. The house will always be paid for, you will never have to buy anything for it." Judy leaned forward and kissed each cheek. "You see she knows how to pay the right amount of respect. You could learn a great deal from her Nick." Judy leaned back and gave Nick a sly smile. "Oh and another thing the house was designed for your comfort as well as mine. So I will be dropping by from time to time to see how you are doing Judy. Remember Nick treat her well because I hear everything when I want to." he said as the polar bear picked him up. "Yes sir, I will treat her like the light of my life." "Good" and with that said he was whisked away by the bear. They also received a big crate of blueberries from Judy's parents which Nick was extremely grateful for. After the main wedding dance Mr. Big's daughter came up to Judy just as the DJ was firing up the party set for the animals who were interested in dancing. "Judy before this gets underway I also have a gift for you to start this wedding with a bang." She nodded to her carrier who spoke in a talkie. Judy turned as the black curtain fell down and there on a stage completely decked out with lights was Gazelle and her tigers. She picked up the mic and said "This special performance goes out to Judy Wilde and Nick Wilde, thank you for saving our city of Zootopia." Just before she started to sing Judy asked "How did you mange this!?" "Well she kind of tracked down my dad because she heard that my dad knew the cop who saved the city. She then offered to sing when she heard you were getting married." Judy turned her attention back towards stage as Gazelle started singing her number one hit Try Everything.

Separated by one door, Judy and Nick were both smiling with fine memories. Judy glanced down at her watch and saw that required time had passed. She stepped up and went to the sink where the test laid waiting. Her smile faltered somewhat as the test showed negative. She picked it up and went out the door to confront her husband. "Here it is Nick and it's negative by the way." Nick looked down at the test and while hiding the relief on his face he said" Carrots I know how much you wanted this but maybe now is not the time. I mean we are two rising stars in the department and maybe we should secure our jobs first before we have a kid." Judy looked up into his face and saw that his eyes were starting to glisten. "Maybe he does care" she thought as she silently cried against his chest. While she snuggled into his chest her ears picked up a noise that sounded like a very satisfied sigh.

As she laid in bed next to him later that night, she could not get that sound out of her head. "That sigh would have meant that he didn't want a kid. Which means he lied to me." she thought. She carefully got out of bed and slipped out into the living room making sure to shut the bedroom door behind her. She did not want Nick to hear this conversation. She retrieved her phone from the arm cushion of the couch and sat down to make a call to her mother. As the line was ringing she was hoping that her mom was still up. After the phone had rang for five times Judy was ready to give up. She took the phone away from her ear just has she heard someone say a greeting that was still heavy with sleep. She brought the phone back up to ear and said "Hi Mom it's me, listen I need your help." Her mom who had indeed been sleeping perked up instantly at the sound of the distress in her daughter's voice. "Of course dear, you can call us any time of the day because we are here to help. What's wrong?" In a quivering voice Judy said "I think I'm pregnant." "Oh dear are you sure? Did you take a test?" "Yes mom I took the test I got from the store and yes I followed the instructions." Here mother gave a little chuckle and said "I think you screwed up dear because those tests in the city are meant for all different kinds of animals. What you need is a test designed by bunnies for bunnies. That's why I brought a few over when you invited us to the house warming." Judy's heart was racing at the thought that maybe the test was faulty. "Quick mom tell me where you put those tests?" "I put them in the bathroom under the sink." "Okay mom thanks, I got go and I love you so much." Judy hung up the phone and went it to the bathroom to look. Sure enough there they were, Judy picked one up and read the box. It said that this test was for bunnies only and gives a positive reading 99% percent of the time. As she took the test and was waiting for the results she smiled as she thought of a way to test Nick. She went back to bed and smiled with the thought on how she was going to get back at her beloved fox.

Judy's internal clock woke her up at five thirty on the dot and while Nick slept in for another hour she went to put her plan into action. She saw that the Bunnyburrow test was still laying facedown next to sink. Judy reached to flip up but stopped when she suddenly felt that maybe it was better not know. Instead she reach under the sink and grabbed another one from the store in town. She then took out a fine line marker and made the positive symbol on the tab. She then went into the kitchen to get breakfast started.

Nick woke up like he did every morning, alone in the bed. He tried setting his alarm for five thirty but he just ending up reaching over blindly and shutting it off every time. He remembered the first time he did that and he over slept, Judy came running in and jumped on him knocking the breath from his lungs and said "Come on we have to go because if we are late the chief won't think twice about firing you." They managed to get to roll call by only a minute ahead of the chief. Now he wakes up every day at six thirty so his wife won't jump on him again. Even though it was Friday which was a day that they had off, Nick still wandered down the hall to the smell of breakfast in the kitchen. As he sat down at the table Judy came over and planted a kiss on his cheek while setting down a covered plate in front of him.

As Nick lifted off the cover his jaw dropped as he stared at the pregnancy test on his plate. "Judy why is this on my plate? I already thought we took a test?" "Nick you can't trust just one test. You have to take different ones if you want to be sure." Judy said who was leaning against the counter so she didn't have to see his questioning gaze. Nick got up and went over and took her in his arms. "What if I don't want to have a baby." he said into her ear. "Then I guess I will have to tell Mr. Big that you refuse to take care of your own child." she whispered back into his. Nick's eyes went wide with sudden thoughts of punishments that Mr. Big would put him through if he heard the news. He leaned back and looked at her in the eyes "You know I would love to have a kid. After all how hard could it be?" She smiled as she grabbed her phone and dialed her parents number. Once her mom picked up Judy asked "Hey mom could explain to Nick what it means to have a baby." "Sure honey put him on." Judy handed the phone over to Nick who held it to his ear and listened to his mother in law explain all the joys of having a kid. Judy watched with some satisfaction as the color in Nick's face just drained. When Bonnie was done Nick silently handed the phone back to Judy and walked back into the bedroom without saying a word.

As Judy watched her husband walk back to the bedroom with his head down and tail dragging. She wondered if she took this a little far. She just sighed and wondered why men had to make such a big deal out of this. She shook her head and went to the guest bathroom to retrieve the test. Keeping it face down she walked into bedroom and saw Nick processing the information while looking at the ceiling. Judy climbed on to the bed and set the test down on his night stand. She then put her head on his chest and said "I don't understand what the big deal is Nick. You already were an awesome pretend farther figure to your friend Finnick. So having a real kid shouldn't be a problem and I know Mr. Big will take care of us." Nick smiled for he knew she was making some pretty good points. "You know what Carrots I think I will make a good farther. After all if I wasn't in that ice cream parlor with him you would have completely ignored me." She lifted her head off his chest and smiled down at him "Actually if he wasn't with you I would have peppered sprayed you for causing trouble for that business." "Yeah it was thanks to a pretend kid...Wait what did you say?" He asked looking up at her with surprise. She shushed him with her finger and laid her head back down "There is another thing I want to tell you." she said. "Yeah what's that?" he asked still smiling now with the idea of becoming a farther. "I wanted to tell you April Fools." She could not see his face but she heard his intake of breath as he realized the joke had been him. "Why Carrots, why did you do it?" he asked. "I heard you sigh when I brought out the first test and I felt like you needed to be taught a lesson." she said as she turned to face him. "You mean your not pregnant and I'm not going to be a dad?" he asked "Well I never said that. What I said was April Fools because that test was a fake. I just drew on it with a marker but I did take another test and it is sitting right there on the nightstand." Nick turned his head so they both were looking at the test. "I wanted you to see the answer first because my mom said that one there is designed just for bunnies and it is the one she always uses." Nick reached over and picked up the test knowing the answer could change his life. He now knew though with Judy at his side they could accomplish anything. Even if it was to become a mother and a farther to a child.
