#1 of Rain and Snow

Hello all my lovely readers! Welcome to the first chapter of my new story, "Rain and Snow"! I am very excited to present this new, episodic series, taking place shortly after the conclusion of "My Roommate's A Stripper!?". A series that will primarily focus on Jessica Snowtail, her escapades during her second year at Five Paws College, and the wide variety of people she will encounter, and who will encounter her. I hope you all enjoy!

College; that special time in many people's lives where they get their first taste of adulthood. A small sample of responsibility to prepare for the real world while gaining the skills necessary to pursue the career of their dreams. But for the freshmen at Five Paws College, it was mostly a chance to take advantage of their newly discovered freedom and lack of supervision to party and experiment. And experiment many of them did, often at all hours of the night. After all, freshmen course work wasn't all that intensive at the small art school, so the young adults were free to have their fun without too much worry. Sophomore course work, on the other hand, was considerably more challenging.

"I can't believe they're still partying, after two weeks." Jessica Snowtail said to herself, slumped over her desk as she desperately tried to do her homework. Despite her best efforts, and all of the J-Pop blaring in her headphones, she could still hear all the raucous music and partying coming from outside. Just like virtually every night since the semester started. And while it was fun the first couple nights, the young fox had work to do and it was proving annoyingly difficult with all the noise.

"Sure, I'll live on campus this year. I'll save a lot of time not needing to commute, which'll give me more time to study. Yeah, that'll be great. Unless of course I get stuck in party central."

Jessica took a deep breath, running her fingers through her long, auburn hair as she tried to regain her focus. "Calm down, girl, you can do this. It's just some noise, nothing you can't block out if you really try."

She took another breath, clearing her mind of her aggravation and putting all her focus on her homework. And it was even for her weather sciences class, which she was intently eager to learn all about. The fox only got about twenty minutes in before her roommate burst into the door, giggling madly.

"Jessie! Why are you hiding in here?" A young calico slurred as she stumbled into the room. "C'mon, join the party! There's lots of cute guys out here."

"I can't, Cassie, I have homework to do." Jessica sighed, pulling her earbuds free. No sense even trying to work with the inebriated feline in the room. "I can only party so much. I don't care how cute the guys might be."

"But that's so boring." Cassie whined, stumbling across the room to wrap her arms around the fox from behind. "C'mon, it'll be so much fun. Plus, there's like this really hot guy who seemed interested in me, but he was really interested in a threesome, so if you're down for it..."

"What? No, Cassie, I don't want to sleep with you and some random guy. Thanks though."

"Well, fine, I guess." The calico backed off from the hug, but hesitated to leave. "So, like, could you maybe do your homework somewhere else, for an hour or two?"

"Why? So you can bang some drunk guy? Why can't you go fuck at his place?"

"Because his dorm's kinda far and we've been drinking. And maybe smoking a little. You don't want us walking around intox... toxicated, do you?"

Jessica let out an annoyed sigh, finally getting out of her seat. "Honestly, that sounds more like your problem. What am I supposed to do while you two do your thing for an hour?"

Cassie could only offer a shrug, to which Jessica groaned. She was about to tell the calico to find somewhere else to fuck so she could get back to work when a blaring alarm drowned out all other noise. Both girls covered their ears as people drunkenly screamed and panicked over the sudden sounding of the fire alarm, putting a stop to everyone's evening activities.

"Of course." Scowling, Jessica grabbed her laptop and books in the hopes of getting at least some work down outside. "Drunken idiots pulling the fire alarm again. At this rate I won't get any work done this semester."

The young fox was soon working outside, trying to avoid the crowd of annoyed or drunken students congregating closer to the dorm. While not as desireable as her desk, at least she was getting some peace, and it would be a while still before the fire department once again cleared the building.

"Yo, Jessica!" A familiar voice called out, Jess looking up to see a tall capuchin approaching, a warm smile on his face. "You settin' fires again?"

"I've been tempted." She replied, smirking as the young man sat beside her. "But it wasn't me, Chip. How do I know you weren't the one setting off the alarm?"

"Cause this isn't my building?" Chip said with a shrug and a grin. "Besides, I was vegging out in my room. I saw the lights flashing and had a feeling you could use some company. How many times have you been stuck out here like this?"

"This week?" Jessica grumbled. "I wish they'd figure out which drunken idiot keeps pulling the alarm and kick them out already. Between this and all the partying, it's a miracle I get any work done."

"Is it really that much work? I mean, I've got a decent workload but it is only the second week."

"Well, maybe I am exaggerating a bit." Jessica admitted. "I just got used to having the peace to get my work done at home, or at my brother's place. Now I have to deal with... this." She motioned towards the nearby crowd, where a group of students had taken the misfortune as an opportunity to move the party outside. Laughing, singing, and other drunken shenanigans broke the quiet of the evening, with others from neighboring buildings coming out to watch the show, or join the fun. "It's a dramatic change."

"Yeah, well that's college I guess." Was all Chip could say, giving the fox a pat on the knee. "Hey, looks like you're cleared to go back in, and back to partying."

"Shit." Suddenly Jessica was scrambling to get her things in order as the others slowly started migrating back inside. "I gotta get back quick, before Cassie decides to try and get freaky before I get back."

"Well, if you get locked out, give me a call. My roommate's too stoned to care if you spend the night."

Jessica came to a stop as she watched the masses funnel back into the building. She knew where they were heading, and that the partying would likely go on for a few more hours still. And Cassie was in that crowd somewhere, likely leading some guy back to their room already. "Ah, fuck it. I think I'll just take you up on the offer now. I don't want to deal with all that noise anymore."

"You're always welcome in my bed, nerd." Chip said with a grin, wrapping an arm around her shoulder to lead her back to his dorm. "It's much quieter at my place. All the pot heads live there."

"You got the stoners and I got the partiers." Jessica remarked. "Not sure which is worse, but at least you can study in peace and quiet."

"Maybe, but I get second hand munchies all the time."

"Didn't know you cared about your weight so much, dork." Jessica had herself a laugh, her friend chuckling along with her as they made their way to his room. As rocky as the start of this year had been so far, she was glad her old friend Chip was here to help her in a pinch.

A few hours later Jessica was curled up at Chip's side, warm and comfortable in her friend's bed as he slept. Not tired yet, the young fox was entertaining herself on her phone, browsing through Tumblr and chatting with friends who stayed up even later than she did. For Jess, this was a more preferable way to end the day, much quieter and more relaxed than tending to her own drunken roommate.

"Did she really invite you to a threesome?" A text popped up, her friend seemingly shocked by her story for the evening. "Why'd you say no?"

"Because I'm not having sex with my drunk roommate and some rando, Jim." Jess hastily typed the reply into her phone. "Would you?"

"Probably not. My gf's way too possessive for that kinda fun, and I'm not into guys anyway."

Jessica rolled her eyes, her thumbs already darting across the screen. "It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to deal with this almost every day since the semester started. Please tell me the freshmen get tired of partying eventually."

"Some of them. Eventually. If you're lucky maybe they'll start calming down by the second semester."

"Wonderful." She replied with a sigh. "At least I know I can crash at Chip's whenever it gets too crazy. This big dork's always good for some stress relief at least."

"Oh I see. You passed up a threesome to get boned by your friend. The guy must be a damn good lay."

"Oh my god." Jessica mewled aloud, glad her friend couldn't see how badly she was blushing. "I didn't mean like that! Besides, his roommate is here, so we couldn't have anyway."

"Lame. Maybe next time!"

Jessica pondered the idea, glancing at the sleeping capuchin beside her, then decided not to share her initial thoughts. "I'm just glad he shares his bed with me. His dorm is so much quieter than Milton Hall. It fucking sucks."

"Wait, Milton Hall? That's weird. My school has a Milton Hall, too. Friend of mine roomed there her freshman year."

"Crazy, though I guess it's not an uncommon name. I mean, how crazy would it be if we've been going to the same school all this time?" She paused for a moment, really pondering that possibility. "Jim, what school do you go to? I don't think you ever told me."

"I didn't?"

Jessica had to stifle a laugh. "I don't think you've told me anything about your personal life. I know your art and what games you obsess over, but I don't know where you live or what you look like. Seriously, not even one selfie?"

"I'm bad about that, huh? My face isn't made for sharing."

"Boy, don't even start." Jessica was ready to whack her friend right through the phone. "I bet you're super handsome, but don't change the subject. Do you go to the same school as me? Five Paws College?"

Jim's reply took a bit longer than the others, and Jessica was admittedly feeling a little excited for the response. "Well, I do go to a school called Five Paws."

"I knew it!" The fox smirked, squirming so much she almost woke Chip up. "We should meet up sometime! Maybe get some coffee at that dumb little cafe by the student union."

"Yeah, if you wanna be horribly disappointed. XD"

"Oh stop that already. I already like you so it'll be fine. How about this Sunday, maybe around three? We can meet up for coffee and just chat, like we always do."

"Well... yeah, fuck it, why not. Coffee with a friend shouldn't hurt, so long as Mel doesn't read too much into it."

"It's a date." Jessica was really excited now. Of all the surprises that could have happened to her this year, learning that one of her good friends was right on campus was an unexpected, though very welcome one. "This is gonna be an amazing year, with so many friends here. If nothing else I'll have a lot of excuses to get away from my roommate."

"Glad I could be useful. Don't you have class in the morning? You should probably go to bed."

"Says the guy who stays up to three every night."

"There's a reason I didn't take any morning classes. Now go to sleep."

"Fine!" Jessica grumped, though she was feeling tired. "Talk to you tomorrow, and I can't wait to see you this weekend! It's gonna be amazing."

"I can not believe I'm doing this." The young snow leopard muttered, nervously waiting at the Five Paws College cafe. A fresh cup of coffee sat forgotten on the table, Jim's mind far too distracted to even remember it. "Meeting her for the first time like this. I must be crazy. She doesn't even know what I look like. Lucky me she takes a lot of selfies, I guess."

Phone in hand, the feline once again pulled up Jessica Snowtail's Facebook page. The fox was pretty cute, and thankfully recognizable. Now it was just a matter of waiting for her to show up, and not doing anything embarrassing.

Jim was so focused on what could go wrong that the phone nearly went flying when it buzzed, a call coming in from the feline's girlfriend. "Hey babe. You up to anything today?"

Jim sighed, still keeping an eye out for Jessica. "I'm meeting a friend for coffee right now, Melody. I'm pretty sure I told you this."

"Oh yeah, you did mention something like that. That's today? Hey, why don't you ditch that internet chick and have dinner with me instead. You know I can give you a meal you can't refuse."

"As tempting as that is, I'm gonna say no. I'm not gonna ditch Jessica, and anyway by the time you get down here we'll likely be done. But, if you start heading down now, we can have dinner later. And then I'll have you for dessert."

"Yeah I guess." Jim could tell Melody wasn't as pleased with that option. "I bet I'm cuter than her anyway."

"Can't even compare." Jim was quick to reply. "You're the most beautiful in my eyes, Princess."

"If you're trying to earn brownie points, it's working. Tell me more."

Jim was about to do as such when a young vixen entered the cafe. Her long, auburn braid and bright blue eyes demanded the snow leopard's attention, and a quick glance at the Facebook app confirmed that this was Jessica Snowtail. With a deep breath, Jim waved to get the fox's attention, Jessica waving back with a smile from the coffee counter. "Sorry babe, my friend's here. I'll talk to you later. Love you."

"Last chance to bail on her and run away with me."

"Stop that." Jim chastised her, failing to stifle a laugh. "Seriously she's ordering coffee now and will be sitting across from me in just a minute. I'll see you tonight."

"Fine. Have fun with internet chick. Later babe."

Jim hung up with a deep breath, thoughts of everything that could go wrong invading the snow leopards mind. "Okay, don't panic. You've talked to her for years, you can talk to her in person. Don't be antisocial."

"Jim? Snowjimbo?" Jim nearly jumped when Jessica called out, suddenly right beside the table.

"Yeah. And you must be Jessica. It's good to, uh, meet you in person."

"It's great to meet you, too!" Jessica was beaming now, sitting across from Jim with a giggle. "I admit, I've been excited for this all week. I mean, we've known each other for so long and now we finally get to see each other face to face. So crazy that we've been going to the same school this whole time. We could've done this ages ago."

"Well, last year maybe. I don't actually live near here." Jim explained, hands tightly gripping the previously forgotten cup of coffee. "I actually live a few hours north of here, in Massachusetts. This school gave me a really good scholarship though, and it's a good excuse to not be able to visit my family regularly."

"I remember you mentioning something about that, though as usual you left out the details. Let me guess; they don't approve of your lifestyle?"

"Lifestyle?" Jim raised a confused eyebrow. "You mean being an artist? Being a gamer?"

"No, I mean being a transguy." Jess replied, purposefully lowering her voice just a bit. "I know a lot of people who have less than understanding parents when it comes to that sorta thing. It sucks."

Jim stared blankly at the fox for a moment before letting out a chuckle. "Sorry, but I'm not trans."

"You're not? Oh my god I'm so sorry!" A heavy blush formed in Jessica's cheeks. "It's just, you come across as a guy online, I just assumed you were. And then I met you and... Oh god I should just shut up."

"You don't have to apologize." Jim insisted, trying and failing not to laugh. "I know how confusing I am about that. I just act like a guy online because, well, it's easier. Especially with gaming."

"Oh god, I must've sounded so dumb. So much for good first impressions, right?"

"Nah, I should've told you. I've confused a lot of people with that. But with my shitty, raspy voice, oversized hoodies, and total lack of boobage, it's easy for me to convince anyone I'm a guy. I actually kinda like that, too. Like I said, it's just easier to let people think I'm a guy sometimes. Pisses off my very homosexual girlfriend though."

As if on cue, Jim's phone buzzed again. The snow leopard rolled her eyes as she read the message, already typing in a response. "I swear, she's been so paranoid lately. Suddenly she can't stand me being around other girls when she's not here. She get's all... inquisitive."

"Trouble in paradise?" Jessica joked. "I thought you two roomed together."

"We did, and were supposed to, but Melody suddenly found her true calling elsewhere and dropped out at the last minute. It was quite the surprise, to say the least, but on the upside I've got a room to myself."

"Sounds better than being stuck in party central. Get a real chance for some peace and quiet to get work done. Unless your other roommates like to party every single night."

"Hah! No way." Jim smirked, her attention divided between Jess and texting. "There's just the three of us in one of the on campus pseudo apartments; June Building. Do you know Glowshark or Boundinlace on Tumblr?"

"I think so. I don't follow them, but I see you reblog from them all the time."

"Well, they're my roommates. We spend a lot of time studying and playing video games. It's, well, it's a great time for us geeks. But generally pretty quiet."

"Sounds good to me." Jessica admitted. "I swear if the nightly partying keeps up I'm gonna start calling in complaints. As nice as my roommate is she can be infuriating when drunk. Plus she keeps insisting on calling me-"

"Jessie!" They both cringed as a cheery voice interrupted their conversation, Cassie prancing over to their table with a wide grin. "Funny running into you here."

"I told you I was coming here." Jessica sighed, doing her best to subdue her annoyance. "And I asked you to please stop calling me Jessie."

"Oh, that's right. You said you were meeting some cute guy for coffee." Feigning innocence, the calico looked around the cafe, only offering Jim a passing glance. "So, where is he?"

"Actually, he is right here." With a smirk, Jess motioned to the snow leopard across from her. "Cassie, this is my good friend, Jim."

"Hey." Jim offered a small wave, visibly less comfortable with Cassie's arrival. Her hands were in her hoodie pockets, her whole body subtly leaning away from the boisterous newcomer.

Jessica couldn't help but notice the change, and quickly tried to pull Cassie's attention back her way. "Say, Cassie, we're kinda in the middle of something here, first meeting in person and all, so unless you have something to tell me..."

"Oh yeah! Well, there's gonna be a party on the fourth floor tonight..."

"Of course there is."

"And I was gonna see if you and your cute friend wanted to come."

Jessica glanced over at Jim, who was busy distracting herself with cleaning her glasses. "What d'you say, Jim? Wanna go to a crazy party tonight?"

"Sorry, I, uh, I'm having dinner with my girlfriend tonight. Then I have some work to do."

"Well, maybe next time." Jessica said, not seeming the least bit disappointed. "Maybe I'll show up for a little while, though. Thanks for letting me know."

"Well, alright. Guess I'll see you later, Jessie."

"Don't call me..." Jessica didn't even bother finishing her complaint, the energetic calico already leaving the building. "You see what I have to put up with? And that was her sober. She's even worse after a few drinks."

"I don't think I was what she was expecting." Jim muttered, still recovering from the intrusion. "She almost looked disappointed."

"She thinks with her crotch more than her head." Jess explained. "She was probably hoping you'd be some hot guy she could try and sleep with. Don't take it personally."

"I mean I know I'm not super attractive, but damn."

"Oh stop, you're plenty cute." Jess offered with a smile. "And trust me you're better off. Besides, you have a girlfriend."

"Yeah, she's not my type anyway." Jim quickly took a sip of her coffee, blushing slightly. "So, I guess you won't be getting a quiet night tonight, huh?"

"Nothing new for Milton Hall." Jessica said with a shrug. "I may go for a drink, bring my friend Chip, and be sociable for a little while. Worse comes to worse I can crash at his place again."

"Good to have a backup plan." Jim agreed, softly smiling once more. "And, if that doesn't work out, I do have an empty bed at my place you can borrow. I know the girls won't mind."

"Two backup plans are better than one. Thanks Jim." They both had a laugh, before resuming their conversation, getting on like they were old friends.

The two talked for hours, the time passing without their noticing as they chatted like they were old friends. The end to their fun only came when Jim's phone went off, Melody letting her know she was almost there. They parted ways somewhat reluctantly, already making plans to hang out another day before making their ways back to their respective dorms.

As Jim approached her dorm she was greeted with a familiar face; a smiling husky with light blue eyes waiting just for her. "Hey Mel. How was the drive?"

"Long, but worth it to see you." Grinning, Melody wrapped her arms around her taller girlfriend, the two going in for a loving, heated kiss. A kiss that lasted a surprisingly short amount of time, Melody pulling back almost immediately.

"Jim! You're wearing that dumb ring in your lip again!"

Instinctively, Jim reached up to touch the thin ring running through the center of her lower lip. "Oh, yeah, I felt like wearing it today. I wasn't expecting to see you after all."

"Well, would you take it out, please? I don't want to spend my night sucking on metal."

"It's barely noticeable." Jim argued, but Melody's face showed she wouldn't back down on this. "Fine. Just give me a minute to head upstairs and I'll put in a stud, okay?"

"Yeah, I suppose." Melody sighed, still glaring at the offending piercing. "I still don't get why you even got that thing."

"Because I like it. Why else does anyone get any piercing?" Jim rolled her light gray eyes as she entered the building. "I still wanna get my nose pierced."

"Not if you want to keep dating me." The husky countered. "Seriously, your face looks great. All that metal will just detract from your natural good looks. Just like it does with Mako."

"I think Mako looks great." Jim replied with a sigh. "But whatever. We'll talk about it another time. Right now I just want to have a nice dinner with my girl."

"Certainly didn't come all this way out here to argue. So, where d'you plan to take me?"

Where ended up being the local McDonald's as neither had a lot of spending cash on hand. It didn't really matter where they went though, so long as they were together. Plus, they were both hungry for fries.

"So, what's this girl's name again?" Melody asked as they finished up their humble meal. "And how do you know her?"

"Jessica? I know her from online." Jim explained, idly munching on her bounty of fries. "I forget exactly how we started talking. Probably over one of my pictures. We just started chatting one day and eventually became friends."

"And you just learned that you both happen to go to the same school?"

"Yeah. I probably would have noticed sooner if I payed more attention."

"So now I suppose you two will be hanging out?" Melody muttered. "Is she cute?"

"See for yourself." Jim took out her phone, pulling up a photo of the fox in question. "I'm sure we'll hang out sometimes. She'll take any excuse to get away from her roommate."

"I guess she's pretty cute." Melody conceded reluctantly . "What was it like meeting her for the first time?"

"Weird, but also not weird?" Jim tried to explain. "I was nervous about making an ass of myself at first, but once we got to talking it was just like chatting online, except I could hear her voice and see her face."

"Sounds like you two are gonna be fast friends." Melody said, suddenly looking somewhat disinterested in the whole conversation. "So, I've been thinking; I have a lot of free time on the weekends. I could probably stay with you once a week, Friday night to Sunday. Most weekends anyway."

"I'd like that." Jim said with a smile. "Of course, you were supposed to be staying with me every day originally."

"I told you, I found what I really want to do with my life, and I can't learn how to do it at Five Paws."

"I know." Jim sighed.

"I spent two years there with an undeclared major. I would of have to declare one this year or they would've kicked me out anyway."

"So instead you're going to be a hairdresser."

"A beautician." The husky clarified. "I've always liked doing hair and makeup, and let's be honest; I'm more likely to get a job as a certified beautician than I am with a degree from some art school."

"Gee, you're right. Maybe I should drop out too." Jim monotoned, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Oh don't be like that, babe." Mel countered. "You went in with a major in mind. Plus, you're really talented. I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding a job once you graduate."

"If not I'll just be another starving artist." Jim chuckled, finishing off the last of her fries. "Alright, we should probably head back. I do have a little work I should get done."

"And I did promise you some dessert." Melody said with a coy smirk. Sharing a grin, the two young women left the restaurant, heading back to the school so they could enjoy a very special, and very intimate, dessert.
