It wasn't even that far into summer and already the heat was close to boiling this morning. Even with all the windows open and the ceiling fan going as hard as it could without risking it flying free from it's place, it was still flat out hot. Not even that dry heat that you mother is always talking about. This heat was so humid, the air was nearly tangible. so, given the circumstances, it was understandable to see why Shakarri had such a difficult time writing. Sitting at her desk with papers sprawled out before her, the braided-mane, spotted hyena lounged back in her chair, staring up at the ceiling fan, praying to whatever deity that existed for some relief, as she gnawed absently upon her pencil. It was just too hard to focus on some love story when you can feel your brain cells dying off one by one.
A small snort caused her ears to quickly shoot up. Pushing back on the chair so that it tilted back upon two legs, she hung her head backwards over the back of the chair and stared at the sleeping bat as she kicked slightly in her sleep. Well, since she couldn't think of much else to do, Shakarri sat back up before slinking out of the seat and around towards the bed, moving on all fours as quietly as possible. Reaching up, she carefully placed the pencil in her mouth onto the night stand, plucked one of the pillows off of the bed, held it high above her head, and then sent it forcefully down upon the once sleeping bat's head.
"Sleep time is over!" Shakarri shouted, beating the bat once more for good measure, "Wake time is now, Shade!"
With a low, long groan, one of the brown bat's eyes opened up and peeked at the grinning hyena before closing shut tightly. "It's too hot to play right now, Shakarri," Shade mumbled through a mouthful of pillow, "It's the first day of my vacation and I just want to re-" Before she could finish her scentence, Shade was, yet again, reacquainted with Mr. Pillow.
"You'll sleep your life away if you keep this up, lazy," the small hyena snickered out as she propped herself up on the edge of the bed with her elbows, her small, scruffy tail wagging enthusiastically.
Shade simply gave a small sigh as she reached up to rub her tired face before grabbing the pillow beneath her head and flinging it at that grinning face that loomed over her, sending Shakarri reeling to the ground.
"That's cheating!' Shakarri barked in mock anger as she scrambled back to her knees.
"It's not cheating.... it's seizing an opportunity," the half awake bat muttered in a bit of a slurr, "Can't you just entertain yourself for now?"
"Fine...I guess I'll have to," the hyper active hyena mused softly as she twirled her dull claw about in Shade's soft, brow shoulder fur, creating small, circular troughs, "I'll go out and be aaaaall alone. All sad... and lonely...wishing that some kindly, tired, bat would come and play with me."
Without even opening an eye to look at her, Shade patted Shakarri upon the head roughly with her paw, "You do that...tell me about it when you get back." With that, her paw slid back beneth the pillow and Shade slowly started to fade back to sleep.
But, it was not to last as something stopped her journey back to the land of sleep. A small sensation ran up her spine from flat of her foot. It wasn't quite so much a tickle as much as just a faint touch. She quickly kicked her feet and the sensation left just as fast. With a satisfied sigh, she settled down once again before a sharp jerked her ankle brought her back. Snapping awake fully, she looked up as she hung halfway off the bed and a very mischievous hyena holding her by the leg tightly, trying to pull the rest of the body off of the mattress.
It was obvious that sleep was nothing more than a dream now.
"Ok, ok...I'm up. I'm up! You can let go now," Shade said defeatedly. But, before she could do or say anything else, she heard a small squeal and suddenly, the giddy hyena was wrapped tightly about her in a strong hug.
"So, what do you want to do?" Shakarri asked with wonder, her tail thumping softly against the bed as large, brown eyes stared up at the bat from behind a prison of braided, black mane.
"Me? You're the one who got me up! Don't you have a plan?" Shade asked in near disbelief. If she hadn't just woken up, she would have felt like just calling it a day and sleeping right now for, as soon as she uttered those words, she knew that she had opened a flood gate of possible answers.
"Weeeeell," Shakarri started, licking her white teeth as she snickered softly. The anticipation was simply killing Shade,"Seeing as it's so hot and all....."
".......yeah?"
"We could go the water park!"
Shade rolled her eyes, grabbed the closest pillow, and held it over her face. Maybe if she held it there long enough, she could trick Shakarri into thinking that she was dead so she could finally be left alone to sleep. "....Let me get this straight. You want to drag me outside into the hot sun, force me to wear some skin tight out fit, subject myself to loud, obnoxious cubs, and completely destroy my fur by shocking it with chlorine?"
"Yup," Shakarri answered plainly, "Pretty much."
Shade only gave her a long, tired look from beneath the pillow before letting it flop back down upon her face. "Sure....get ready..."
A loud squeal immediately followed, one that caused Shade to cringe in slight pain, and the hyena had tossed herself from the bed and half skipped over to the dresser. As the Shakarri got out of her green pajama's, Shade peeked out from under the pillow once more, her purple eyes seemingly glowing in the shadow cast by the pillow. She watched her mate as she quickly undressed, getting a small glance at that spotted, nude bottom before grinning softly and sitting up finally for the first time today.
Honestly, Shade really did need this "vacation". She had been working at the office for so long that she had almost forgotten what the world outside of a cubical looked like. Partly the reason why she stormed into her boss' office and had quit her job. This was day two of unemployement, day one was spent with a fair amount of hysteria over the fact that she had just quit her job.
Stretching out her wings and arms, Shade groaned softly as those tired muscles were stired into action. Sliding out from beneath the covers, she followed Shakarri to the dresser, kissing the shorter female on top of her braided head before getting out her own swim wear.
Before long, they were both dressed and ready. Shakarri was wearing a grey t-shirt over her bikini top and a pair of blue swim trunks. Shade, being a bit less modest with her body, wore a dark purple two piece that, while great looking on her, left very little to the imagination. That is, until she tossed on one of her collared shirts, leaving it open for better ventilation. Seeing as she wouldn't be needing that shirt from now on, she didn't mind getting it wet.
With towels, sun block, and all the other essentials gathered, the duo was all packed up into the car and were off towards the park. As usual, Shade was driving, feeling safer behind the wheel than letting the easily distracted hyena take it. The drive wasn't too long considering that the traffic to the park was as long as expected for a day such as this.
Wet'n'Wild World. The name was horrible, but the park itself was a rather large attraction for the city since it was a nice place for everyone and anyone to come and have fun. Families, friends, entire packs and prides filed into the gate as the sounds of splashing and loud cubs soon filled Shade's sensitive ears. However, it wasn't all that bad as the wind picked up just enough so a cool mist was carried over her. Perhaps this wasn't going to be all that bad alfter all....
"C'mon!" Shakarri grabbed Shade by the wrist and dragged her along the cement path, her tongue hanging from her muzzle as she moved, "What'cha wanna do first? The pipe line? The toboggan? oh OH! We should do the wave pool! Yeah!" The hyena was nearly by side herself with enthusiasm as she bounced about from one spot the next like a rat in a dump.
Once her paw was free, Shade watched the hyena bound about as she sat herself down in one of the many reclining chairs. "Well, I'm going to lay here and enjoy my day. You can go play whatever you want to..." And, with that, Shade slipped on her sun glasses, laying comfortably in the seat.
Too giddy to care that her mate wasn't playing along, Shakarri raced into the wave pool, splashing about as she whooped and barked. Eventually, she would find a few small cubs that were playing as well and joined along them. Quite an unusual sight to see a grown female play along with cubs at their level. Taking one last look at Shakarri, Shade gave a small grin as she closed her eyes and relaxed, enjoying the feeling of the warm sun warm her fur. This was nice.... she didn't know how much she had missed being outside and active until now.
Slowly but surely, Shade started to drift into that state of relaxation where she was still awake and aware, but the world seemed to be further away than it actually was. She never noticed that the giggles and screams of a pack of cubs and one hyena grew quite quickly. She didn't hear the wet slops of several damp paws scampering near her. It wasn't until Shade felt the warmth from the sun being blotted out by a shadow that she grew aware of her soundings again, but, by then, it was far too late.
Shakarri was standing over the bat and held a bucket of water that she poured upon her, causing Shade to jump up from her seat and scream. Naturally, the cubs and Shakarri found this endlessly amusing as they all doubled over in laughter.
Now wet and awake, Shade glared at Shakarri as her sunglasses hung partly off of her face. Tossing up her hands, the hyena ran for it as Shade chased after her, nearly tumbling over a young reptile in the process. Escaping out into the water, Shakarri's loud laughter continued on, even as Shade jumped into the air, using her wings for a small boost, and fell upon her and grabbed the struggling hyena in her arms.
"You wanted me to play?" Shade nearly shouted playfully, "Ok then! I'm playing!"
"Noo-!" Shakarri's giggle was cut short as she was tossed into the water. Standing proud, Shade grinned down at the submerged hyena, watching the miffed hyena glare up at her much like a cub in the same situation. "Oh, what's wrong?" the over-confidant bat teased, "The widdle 'yena doesn't like getting wet?"
The cubs that were all laughs and giggles stood behind Shakarri, the lot of them silent. It was the tubby bear cub the broke the silence when he prodded Shakarri's shoulder with his finger.
"Ya gonna ledd'er git away wif dat?" the snaggle toothed ursine said. Shakarri glanced back over her shoulder at him then back at Shade.
"I dunno," the hyena said with a growing dark grin, "I think that this means war... What do you guys think?" A deafening "YEAH!" erupted from Shakarri's mutchkin-army. Shade only had time to feel the sinking notion of impending doom in her gut before the hyena sprung at her, clutching the lighter female in her arms and literally throwing her over her own head. All Shade could do was flap her wings and arms uselessly as she tumbled in the air for a fraction of a second before crashing under the water with a loud squeal. Breaking the surface for air, Shade gasped and sputtered, blinded by her own hair in her face. Even without her sight, the bat knew that hyena was on the move toward her as she splashed and whooped closer, her cub posse cheering her on the entire way. Attempting to put distance between herself and Shakarri, Shade paddled away as fast as she could, but the hyena was simply too fast for her and was one again upon her.
"Say that I win!" Shakarri demanded as she took hold of Shade's waist and threatened to toss her again, "Say it!"
"You win! You win!" the bat begged between giggles, "Just let me go!" With a small snort of victory, Shakarri eased her grip on Shade's waist just enough that the bat shoved her love away playfully before getting grabbing Shade once more, this time ready to make good on her threat.
TWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeet! The action froze immediately as the two glanced up at the looming wolf lifegaurd. They could feel his eyes burning through them, even through his dark sunglasses.
"No rough housing! I've told YOU this more than enough times now," the wolf snarled at Shakarri, causing her ears to fold back in humiliation, "I'm going to have to ask you to get out of the pool."
Without another word, Shakarri turned tail and started swimming back towards land with Shade close behind her. Silently, the hyena grabbed a towel and started to dry off her fur as Shade stood and watched, wondering what exactly to say to lighten her lover up. There wasn't much she could say that she could think of right now...
"Pffft," Shade finally snorted, "Who put a stick up his tailhole?" Shade watched for a reaction from Shakarri, but when she saw none, she rolled her eyes. "C'mon... let's go." She tossed her arm over the depressed hyena's shoulder who now had her towel draped over her head to hide her face.
Outside of the park's walls, Shade gave a small sigh at Shakarri's attitude. Walking through the parking lot, Shade gave a small chuckle before lightly nudging the hyena with her elbow.
"Stoppit...."Shakarri muttered softly from beneath the towel. Again, the hyena was jostled and she glared up at Shade, saying "stop" with her eyes this time. The only reaction that it got was a stiffed laugh from Shade. She couldn't help it, really.... Shakarri was trying to be so serious that it was just funny to her. This time open-paw pushing Shakarri, Shade burst out into laughter as she raced ahead. Now actually upset, Shakarri ripped the towel from her head and followed after the bat. Hearing the heavy pawsteps racing behind her, Shade quickly darted between several of the parked cars, trying to loose Shakarri's trail, but the hyena kept the chase close. Finally reaching her car, Shade stopped and spun around, placing her paws on the hood of the car and watching the hyena's movements. When Shakarri moved to the front of the car, Shade started to move for the back and vice-versa, ensuring that Shade would never be caught.
"Ha!" Shade bellowed out, "Can't get me now!"
With a small growl, Shakarri quickly ducked below the car and the she darted off to the sound of loose pebbles. Shade Looked over the car and through it's windows, but couldn't find the hyena, just her towel on the car's hood. Ducking down, she looked underneath the car as well, but was caught off gaurd when a damp hyena burst out from underneath, glomping her to the ground.
"Ok, ok!" Shade snorted out in a giggle fit, "You got me!"
"Ya damn straight I did!" Shakarri chuckled as well, having forgotten about her bad mood. Her tail thumped slightly against Shade's leg as she kept the bet pinned, "What do I get as a prize?"
"Well," Shade cooed softly, reaching up and holding the hyena's rump in her paws, neading and massaging it playfully, "I think you deserve a treat."
"What? Here?" Shakarri whispered, in awe of the bat's sudden audacity, "But, there's familys coming and going all over...we'll get caught. Can't we just go home and-"
"Nope!" Shade cut her off in mid-thought, "I'm the one who's driving.... and I say that we don't go anywhere until you claim your spoils."
Shakarri wasn't sure if it was the over-exertion from all the rough housing, the bad mood she was in earlier, or just the fact that she was on top of the sexiest bat in the world.... but she DID want it.
