Evil lurks inside everyone, and everything. But within the darkness even a small shimmer of light will show, lighting the way out...or the way into a new eternal darkness until that next guiding light. - Quote of Michael .B

  • * * I woke up slowly, looking up at the blank white ceiling above me...the sound of other kids going about there daily routines and fun. Not me...I never joined in with them...there games, and insults upon the local animals who had been placed inside the same building but just on divided sides. The hate and violence toward them pushed me farther away from society and my own kind...a strong will welled up inside me to defend the weaker kind and that was the animals. I could understand why it was considered a crime when the animals would defend themselves because all they could do was claw and bite...a punch would cause there claws to injure themselves other than who they were attacking. But humans got away with everything... I looked to the side slowly and stared aimlessly at the woods outside my window, I was only sixteen and I already had a hate for the human kind, for there cruelty, but I had to look inside myself to keep from being like them...my love for the animals was my safety net in my freefall. But me being a friend of the animals didn't win me very many friends on the human side...maybe one or two but even then...those few didn't like me also. What could I do but stay on my own... I've been in this building...this...orphanage for the better part of my whole life...I've seen kids like me that staid in solitude go so far insane that they was put into the metal evaluation wing of the building...but not me...I had the fuel and fire to become something more than just a crazy nutcase and be locked in some damn room. I slowly got up, throwing the covers off my body before I sat my bare feet upon the tiled floor with a slight shiver...slowly I stood up and walked over to the small closet in my room and opened it up looking at the cloths before I grabbed a pare of black jeans, a gray t-shirt with a snow covered woods scene with a pack of wolves and a black wool vest. Moving to the door I stepped out of my room and into the long hall that branched off all over the building like roots of a tree. As I made my daily walk around the building I heard a crash come from behind the door of the girls bathroom. I was just about to keep on walking until I heard the sound again followed by a pained whimper. Now being like mostly everyone else in the world...I wouldn't have been caught dead in or near the girls bathroom but right now...it didn't hold as a moral tone anymore and before I knew what I was doing I was pushing the door open slowly and stepping into the room. I heard someone smirk before a voice that didn't belong in the room was heard. "Well now you little bitch...there are rules about your kind on our side of the building...and a price for being caught. Animals should be locked up in cages...not given rights like humans." spoke a males voice before the sound of cloth ripping was heard over a soft yelp. "Humans also deserve the same treatment for there hate." I commented, while I rounded the corner to find a young man upon the floor, pinning a young she-wolf under him who was about sixteen, with beautiful silver gray fur and amber eyes. I had clearly caught the guy off guard and that was only because everyone else in the building didn't give a shit about what went on. "Turn and leave animal lover...if you know what's best for you." the kid glared at me, clearly upset someone walked in on his fun. "I think it's you who needs to leave buddy." I stepped slightly closer, while crossing my arms. "You and what army." "I don't need any help to beat you within a inch of your life." That might have not been the best thing to say. The kid got up slowly and stepped toward me, ignoring the she-wolf as she crawled backwards until her back was to the wall...her shirt clutched tightly in one of her paws to hide her exposed chest. Soon the kid sent a punch to my face only to have it miss when I stepped back quickly, before lashing out with my own attack, driving my fist into his stomach with such force it caused him to hit the floor like a ton of bricks. He then came up with a knife I hadn't seen, I moved back from the strike but still I didn't get away fast enough when the blade cut through my arm. On his recovering strike I caught his wrist, before I sent my knee into his face knocking him onto his back, allowing me to pin him down while I brought his hand to his neck with the knifes blade pressed to his flesh. "You are lucky I won't kill you...last I need is that upon my mind...but if you do force me next time...I will kill you." I spoke softly before standing up and watching the kid stumble his way from the area, I then turned to look at the She-wolf before I stepped up to her while holding out my hand. "You okay?" "Yes...but...your...your hurt.." she reached out slowly and took my hand while standing up. She then led me to the sink, turning on the water she grabbed some paper towels and started cleaning the cut that was upon my arm. "It's not bad...no major damage." "My health is not important when it comes to you...or your kind." Slowly the She-wolf looked to me with a soft smile. "Thank you..." I just shook my head slightly, watching her tend to my wound before she ripped off a strip from the sleeve of her shirt and wrapped it around my arm before walking to the door. "Hey...let me walk you back to the other side...he might be hanging around still." I said while walking up to her, taking off my vest. Slowly I moved in front of her and slipped the vest on her before zipping it up to give her a bit more security about hiding the mornings event. Soon we was walking down the halls, I was ignoring all the looks and whispers while I walked beside the she-wolf with my hand softly upon her back. We then stopped at the border line that divided the humans and animals. "Thank you again...I will always remember your kindness...My names Gina. What's your name.?" "Michael." "Is that all? What about a last name?" "A lone wolf doesn't have a last name...all we do is wonder the lands for a home..." Gina gave a soft nod. "I understand...Well...I hope life works out for you Michael...May god's light shine down upon you with his love." I smiled and sniffed a soft laugh. "Gina...do tell me...what do you plan to be when you grow up and get out of here?" "I plan to be a Nun...to help the lost lambs of god." I slowly gave a nod while smiling. "I do hope that works out for you Gina." I then pulled her into a soft hug, softly stroking her back as she returned the embrace, murring softly before we both soon stepped back from one another. "I'll be praying for you Michael." she said softly before she walked away, disappearing around the corner as I just stood there silently, watching her leave. I then turned around and walked back down the halls aiming for the cafeteria for breakfast. I was glad I had at lest one friend inside that area...she would allow me to substitute the stuff I didn't like with the stuff I did. Stepping up to the empty line I looked to a elderly woman with a smile. "Hey Karen...I'll have what I always have. Um...go ahead and toss in a Pepsi with it." I then glanced back slightly at the sounds of whispers off to the side. My mind was soon pulled back from the hate I was gathering. "Everyone has heard about what you did...defending that She-wolf...unlike them sonny...I'm proud of you. Even god will lead those, whom he wishes astray." the old woman spoke with a soft laugh while handing over a tray of food that consisted of some bacon, strip steak, and a side of fresh sliced apples sided by a soda bottle. Slowly I took the tray and shrugged. "Yes...so I am told. I want out of here Karen...I'm falling apart...I don't know just how much longer I can take this hate. I want to kill every single animal hating human in here." I sighed softly. "God has a plan for us all...even you. The animals I have seen given you a name... Garder Bestia...which means To Guard Beasts." I blinked slightly and smirked. "That's a play on Old French and Latin words." I then gave a soft nod. "Take care Karen." I walked off to a lone table, sitting down and eating on my food silently, doing my best to ignore all the whispering all around me...soon everyone was silenced by a females voice over the speakers in the room. "Michael...will you please come to my office.?" Slowly I got up, putting the soda bottle in my left front jean pocket and made my way out of the room, and down the halls until I stopped in front of a large office door. I opened the door and stepped into the large room looking around before my eyes fell upon two animals sitting silently in front of the desk while the young woman sitting behind the desk filled out papers before looking up. "Ah...here he is." Slowly the two animals turned around and looked at me, the male was a rottweiler, and the female was a beautiful black and white Border Collie. I noticed the males expression wasn't entirely pleased with my presence but the female was totally overjoyed when her eyes landed upon me. I could tell she was the one who planned this out and her mate didn't much like it but still went with it. "He's so cute!!" she yipped while getting up form her seat, moving close to me and nearly smothering me in a hug that I was clearly unprepared for. I softly tapped her on the side just to get her attention as I tried to look up but only my eyes could do such a task in the position I was in. "Uh...not to be ungrateful...I do love this but....you're smothering me." I said, but it was somewhat muffled by the teddy bear like hug I was in. Slowly and reluctantly the collie released her grip upon me allowing me to slowly regain the breath I was denied before three words caught me by so much surprise, that I nearly fainted right then and there. "I Want Him." I looked to the collie with so much surprise, but inside my mind I heard the words again. ‘ God will lead those, whom he wishes; astray.' Seams like Karen knew just what she was talking about eh? "Very well...here are the papers, just sign them and you all can be on your way." the woman behind the desk held over a few papers with a smile I knew was fake. So...I see they found a way to get rid of me after all huh...adopting me out to the side I defended...just to keep me from ruining there hate controlled ways inside this shell of rock and tile. I'll admit...it was a nice play on there part but it wasn't over by far...something else was going on. And I would find out sooner or later. Soon I was following my new parents out of the office and then the building, stopping in front of a old beat up Honda Civic that had seen better days. I got in the back and slowly looked out of the window before I caught sight of Gina standing at a window watching silently before she gave a soft wave. I slowly returned the wave...here I was leaving someone I liked...someone I helped...someone who needed me...I was leaving them in a place full of nothing but hate. I felt sick. I was so far into my thoughts I didn't catch most of what was said but when my name was spoke I looked back to the front seat. "Huh?" "I said; how do you feel about this Michael?" the Collie looked back at me slowly, still smiling. "Uh...I don't know...this all caught me by surprise. I really don't know how to level this on a answer so fast." I replied softly. "Understandable...Well Michael... my names Dianne...Dianne Wolf and this is my husband Bill." I slowly gave a nod before looking back out the window slowly, watching the sun slowly rise up above the tree line and into the noon sky. My mind going back to Gina, and the rest of the animals. Until Dianne turned to me a bit more while reaching out with her paw and placing it on my shoulder. "You okay? You seam miles away." "Yeah I'm fine...I'm just thinking." "About what?" I slowly looked to her and shrugged. "A girl." "Awww. You in love with her.?" "I don't know...I just met her today." "Ah I see...well don't worry I'm sure you will see her again some day." Dianne softly patted my shoulder before turning around. It was a silent ride. I slightly glanced to my watch, noticing that it had been three hours since we left the orphanage and soon we arrived at a house that resided in a casual side of town. Slowly Dianne and Bill stepped from the car, talking softly among themselves as I slowly got out looking around slightly. "Um...not a bad place. Early nineteenth century?" "Yes is it...how did you know?" Dianne looked back at me slowly with a soft smile as Bill gave a slight growl and walk off into the house. "I have studied up on some old history." I replied softly before I heard another voice inside the house of a young female. I then looked up to see a mix breed canine trot from the house slowly and up to Dianne, hugging her close while her tail wagged so quick I thought it would have been flung off her. Soon the pup looked toward me while tilting her head slightly. "Who's that mommy?" the pup asked softly. Honestly I shouldn't really call her a pup...the girl was as old as I was if not by a year younger. She looked more like her mother than her father. "He's your new brother, Jewel." Dianne replied softly while patting her softly on the head. Jewel gave a soft nod before she moved up to me and gave me a soft hug, murring softly . Slowly she looked up at me with a grin. "How are you?" Jewel asked while nuzzling against me softly. "Michael." "That's a nice name. Will you be my loyal, big brother? Protect me and help me when I need help.?" she asked softly while looking at me intently, her green eyes shining softly. "Yeah...I'll help you out Jewel. I promise." I smiled while looking down at her, stroking along her back softly before we both looked up slightly to the sound of Bills growling yell. "COME ON AND GET INSIDE.!" "I'm sorry...Bill has been having a bad time lately." Dianne said softly before walking into the house slowly with Jewel following her closely with her tail slightly tucked between her legs. I sighed softly and followed them inside, with my hands in my pockets. Later that night, dinner was silent, not much was spread in the form of talk but I could feel a high amount of hate from Bill; directed right at me. After dinner we all went to our own rooms, I laid silently in bed looking at the ceiling unable to sleep. I was awake all night long and when morning came I heard Bill and Dianne fighting down in the kitchen before Jewel came rushing into my room, jumping up on the bed and cuddling close to me with tears in her eyes as she whimpered. "I want them to stop fighting...Why can't father be happy that I have someone to look up too? Someone I can count on.? Why must he hate you so much brother.?" she whined softly while looking up to me. Slowly I shook my head while stroking along her back as I held her close to me. "I don't know Sis...but I will not leave you or mother...give me time and I'll talk to father about it." "Thank you brother....thank you." she nuzzled close to me before she had cried herself to sleep. I slowly looked down at her while stroking my fingers through the fur on the back of her neck. "I don't know how I can help...but I will try my best." I whispered softly, while looking to the door, I knew something had to be done...and this was my calling...I wouldn't make bad of my second chance in life...I was going to end this binding tie of hate...I was going to save my family, and my friends...maybe even Gina...if I ever see her again. Mother was right...I am in love. (To Be Continued.) ================================================================ Okay this is the Prequel chapter to the first main chapter of this series...if you want to read the rest...you must see the other chapters of the UFA Vs.
