#8 of Updates, updates, updates!!!

***********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************Right then here is the first (and probably over due) update to the encyclopedia I posted a while back based on my story 'Malakye's Story', filled with various details and names of things from the world that I created around my fursona.

There is two parts to this update, one is the updates to previous entries in the encyclopedia, and the others are new entries.

As always any words or phrases with a * at the end of them indicate a reference to something in the encyclopedia.******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Ahamakara

The land of Ahamakara lies in the South-western corner of the Tribal Lands, and lays on the Northern border of the Baruabus Swamp-lands. Due to it's close proximity to the swamp lands it is incredibly fertile and is used primarily as farm land and grows a huge variety of crops which it trades with the Grass Lands* and capital Marijakil*.

Athanos Sea

The Athanos Sea is an inland sea, and home to the Athanos Dragons*. It is located in the Northern Tribal Lands, North of the Callanian Mountains*; and is connected to the Sea of Storms*.

It is a plentiful source of fish and is a breeding ground for many types of fish.

Bluehurst Plains

Named after the leader of a war party from Vak'nal* who was routed at this spot by a combined force of wolves and the species from the Grasslands*. The battle was bloody and both sides took heavy losses. Warlord Bluehurst only retreated due to the significant casualties his force lost and knew that he would be unable to continue his campaign without any reinforcements.

Central Plains

The central most area of the Tribal lands, a place of many battles over the years between the dragons and wolves during their long standing feuds with each other.

Chimera

There are many sub species of Chimera. Each race have the characteristics of three species of animal. It is said that Chimera used to be feral beasts, spawned by demonic powers, but were saved by Guardian Deity* Callen.

Since freeing themselves from the control of the Demon Lords*, they have learned to interact with society, but are considered lesser beings by the majority, being treated as outcasts or slaves, they are few in number within the tribal lands, most of them either living rough to avoid being enslaved or living as slaves.

Crystal Cliffs

Named for the white marbled rock that forms the unique appearance of the cliffs. The cliffs mark the border between the Tribal Lands and Vak'Nal.

Crystal Plains

Named after the well known Crystal Cliffs* that the plains are next to. The plains are the most Northern point of the Tribal Lands.

Dakkatta Plain

A large expanse of flat fertile land that surrounds Dakkatta Village*, to the east of the southern most Dalton Lake*.

Elysian Mountains

Named after the wolven Clan that live on the fertile land to the North of the mountains, the Mountain range marks the border between Vak'nal* and the Tribal Lands*.

Erythea

The Country to the East of the Tribal Lands. Unlike the Tribal lands, which has a vast array of species living in it, over two thirds of it's population is a dragon species with pale blue scales with no wings, known as Erythean Dragons*.

Erythea is a rich, fertile land, and is known for its high quality cloths and silks.

Erythea is ruled by a royal family of dragons, but in recent years there was a betrayal, where the emperor was killed by his brother along with his family was killed and the brother became the new Emperor.

Festival of Lunas

A festival held during the last full moon of summer. For three nights the festival is held, in celebration of the twin Guardian Deities*, Solas and Luna. This is to mark the shortening of days and longer nights.

The festival is celebrated in many different ways depending on where you are in the tribal lands, but is one of the most widely celebrated festivals.

Festival of Solas

A festival held during the last full moon of winter. For three nights the festival is held, in celebration of the twin Guardian Deities*, Solas and Luna. This is to mark the lengthening of days and shorter nights.

The festival is celebrated in many different ways depending on where you are in the tribal lands, but is one of the most widely celebrated festivals.

Fogmarsh

The coastal marsh land north of the Grass Lands*. A very fertile land that in constantly swallowed up in thick fogs.

Galician Steel

Galice Anaris was a famous smith, by combining several different types of ore with steel, he created a metal that when worn by a dragon suppressed their ability to draw on their nen.

The metal is commonly crafted into restraints, manacles and on the bars of the cells. The metal absorbs and dissipates the users nen as quickly as they can draw it.

Gallium Steel

Named after the Guardian Deity* of Crafting. Weapons made of Gallium steel are incredibly rare and sought after, only a few known weapons are still known to survive to this day. These weapons as easily recognised by their distinctive black colouration.

Due to the fact such weapons are highly sought after many forgeries have been made. Such forgeries are usually recognisable to those with a keen eye for detail. But the real test of a Gallium sword can only be carried out by a K'tan*.

Gallium steel is able to channel, absorb and store the nen of the one who wields it. Allowing K'tan* to use their nen in new ways. This is what makes Gallium Steel unique to another metal. Many of these weapons were created by Gallium during the last great demon war. Gifted to the K'tan* as rewards for their heroic acts as they fought against the demon hordes of Maugan Ra* and the Demon Lords*.

It is said that Gallium Steel weapons change over time, matching the nature of the nen that they have absorbed in some way. However this is widely regarded as a myth. But this is part of the reason the weapons that these weapons are so desirable.

Gisbacl

A metal ore known only to be found in the Zangarian mountains*, named after a smithy who first used it in his craft. In its unrefined form it has the texture of sandstone and crumbles easily, but once smelted it produces a metal as strong as iron. When refined the metal is often used by smithies for a source of cheap but reliable metal for making weapons.

Weapons made with this ore are recognised by the slight green colouration that appears when a strong light is shone on them. Back when Zangar was known for it's smithing trade many smithies would add some of this ore to the stronger, more expensive metals during the forging process to give the blades the distinctive green colouration; as a sign that it had been produced in Zangar.

Griffin

The dominant race of Vak'Nal*. These creatures are as fierce as any feral creature, with the size and strength to allow them to over power most other species with ease but as intelligent as any anthropic race. They don't know common tongue and attempts to teach them have failed, as if they are physically incapable of using it. Their language to most seems to be little more that clicks and squawks.

Many view them as little more than simple savages, living in mountain caves, but that assumption is often quickly forgotten once they encounter a settlement of griffins. Once you are able to get beyond the language barrier and learn some simple communication you will find that they are incredibly intelligent and capable as any other race, but live simple lives.

The only time these creatures were known to have invaded a land beyond the borders of Vak'Nal was when Warlord Bluehurst managed to earn their trust and recruited them to his army. They proved to be the equal of three warriors due to their superior size and strength, and if they hadn't been routed at what is now known as Bluehurst Plain* it is thought that they would have plundered half of the Tribal Lands without serious opposition.

Icarus Plain

Located to the east of the Zangarian Mountains and West of the border of Erythea. Named after the dragon who lead an assault on an invading war party from Erythea. The battle lasted over three days and nights. Hundreds died on both sides during the constant conflict. Over time a settlement was formed here, known as Icarus Village.

Icarus Village

Located on the Icarus Plain*. This is a mixed raced village, formed over the years by refugees from various wars and those looking for a new life. A simple farming community whose population has grown over the years.

Due to their location they have become known as a primary trade route for those travelling to and from Erythea* and the Land of Gir*. Because of the amount of wealth the trade route has brought to the community it now has a significant militia force to defend it.

Jarrak

A large boar like animal, there are many species of Jarrak across the Tribal lands, varying in colour and size.

Kantis Root

A root of a leafy plant that grows in mountain regions, usually on the sides of cliffs. When chewed the root produces a chemical that relieves pain.

Alchemists often use ground kantis root in medicines. It used to be an expensive item to get a hold of, but it is now common place to find these herbs being grown for domestic use. Due to the hardy nature of the plant it is easy to grow, provided there is an ample water supply.

Kinyar

The term is derived from 'Old Tongue', translated it means 'challenge', and is still accepted in most societies as a legal right of any who have been slighted.

The challenger is granted the right to chose the method of combat, be it swords, bare handed or any recognised form of combat, or is allowed to declare what is not allowed. Unless otherwise stated, any form of combat is allowed and both sides may, if both agree, place a forfeit for the loser. No one is allowed to interfere other than the selected official, who was chosen by the challenger to witness the combat, and only to prevent fatal injury.

In some social groups there is a specific forfeit always expected of the loser unless otherwise agreed. For example the losing party of a Kinyar are expected to follow the winners orders until the next sunrise, as a temporary slave. This type of Kinyar is known as Kinyar Su'crar (Challenge for the body).

During the time of their servitude, the loser may be requested to complete any number of menial tasks including sex. The loser may only refuse a request if it was to cause any permanent physical harm to themselves. To harm someone who is indebted to you in is this way is extremely frowned upon, and can result in sever consequences for any who break this rule.

While injuring you opponent during an official Kinyar is allowed, there is to be no deaths of any of the participants. Killing your opponent is a crime, and as such punishable by the local law; unless both parties agreed before hand that the fight was to the death. A Kinyar fight, to which has agreed to be a fight to the death is known as 'Multar Kinyar' (Death Challenge).

Kursed

The Kursed are the most powerful warriors of the land of Gir*. Similar to the Magi*, equally different. Warriors are implanted with the souls of demons, their bodies are strengthened, and mutated, by the power of the demonic force within them.

The Kursed are easily identified by their mutated features, and are considered extremely dangerous. And while they can appear bestial and primitive, there often lies within a sharp mind. Many have fallen to the Kursed thinking that they could easily outsmart them.

Among the armies who have fought against such beasts in battle there is but one rule. Never fight one alone. Not only are they drastically stronger than most but they manifest unusual powers. A single Kursed has been known to defeat entire squads of soldiers by them selves.

Lun'nath

An Old Tongue* terminology that refers to a series of motions which help benders complete acts of bending. Roughly translated is means 'solo dance'.

The technique allows the user to focus and properly time the use of their nen to complete various techniques of bending using a sequence of moves. This technique is essential in the use of Run'nath*, but is generally not used in solo bending attempts unless the user is attempting a difficult or complex bending technique.

While Lun'nath can be used for even the simplest of techniques it is frowned upon, thought to be needed only by those with weak nen, and because it makes it easier to predict the users attacks due to the specific move sets that are required to use the technique.

Nen

The word used to describe the act of drawing on spiritual energy used to bend elements by the Zangarians. Many different races use different terms for this, but to use ones nen is to draw on their spiritual energy and use it to some effect. It is widely believed that beings with strong spiritual energy are descended from K'tan*, whether they possess the ability of a K'tan or not.

Nen can also be used to increase the users physical attributes. Some can do this through intense training, while others can do it as easily as breathing. This can also happen during times of great distress, leading to the individual doing things that, neither they or others believe, could be physically possible.

Praedyth's Rest

Praedyth was a demon lord, who during the great war was captured near the end of the war, after a large scale battle in the tribal lands. Knowing that simply killing a demon lords physical form would not kill them, the Guardian Deities* and the K'tan* who aided in her capture devised a way to contain her using the unique skill of one of the K'tan* with the power of Luna and Solis; the Guardian Deities* of the sun and the moon.

The land is avoided for the most part. Rumours of ghost and demons emerging at night, searching for their lost lord and for a way to free her from her prison. It is a highly travelled route, but many ensure that they are not caught there at night.

(The) Rolling Hills

A large area of land that separates Rengilar from the Rovarian plains. It is infamous for ambushes and bandits, the numerous hills make it hard going for any travellers that are using wagons to travel.

Run'nath

An Old Tongue* terminology that is used by Zangarians when referring to 'group bending'. Roughly translated is means 'unified dance'.

Group bending is taught to adept level benders to achieve large scale bending methods that individuals are not able to carry out on their own. In order to do this they must attempt to bend in unison with the other benders, a task which is achieved with a series of motions, similar to those used in Lun'nath*, which allow each member of the group to synchronise their nen with the others.

If the group are not synchronised in their attempt, the attempted effect is often a failure, and in some rare circumstances can be dangerous to the benders themselves when the attempted move backfires on the group themselves.

Skitter

A four legged lizard that is named for the sound it makes when it runs. They are incredibly fast and run away the moment something gets too close to them. They have a fin that runs down their backs and tail. Skitters can vary in colour, often taking the colour of their environments. It is unknown if they can change colour at will or if it a result of eating the natural foliage and insects that make up their diet.

They are often caught and roasted over fires as a tasty meal. Some settlements in the tribal lands have skitter farms, where they breed them as livestock since they require little food and reproduce quickly. Due to their cowardly nature it is a common insult to call someone a skitter.

Tyrok Border Lands

The Tyrok Minotaurs have several strong holds here, protecting Marajakils* eastern borders from invasion from the long time enemies, the Lions of Gir.

The primary strong hold is actually within the Wastelands* where the Tyrok Minotaurs train their warriors. The tough and unforgiving environment of the Wastelands* make an ideal place to teach survival skills and toughen up new recruits.

The entries below are the ones that have been updated or changed.

Anglaor

Often known as Angel rock*, or Guardian Stone*. A rare mineral used mostly for decoration. In the absence of light it will emit a pleasant, faint blue light, but for some reason it glows the brightest before it is mined in the Zangarian Mountains, so much so that when exposed to bright light it continues to glow brightly. No one understands the reason for this. Only three places are known to produce this mineral.
