PROFESSIONAL CURIOSITY

Pokemon Lemon Fiction

AUTHOR'S NOTES: This is my humble attempt at the AGNPH "The Birds and The Bees" story submission. I wanted to try something first person, which is a rarity for me. I was also thinking of film noirs (or neo-noir like Sin City) while I wrote it, but I'm not sure it's totally convincing as one. No matter, it's a simple experiment that I kinda threw together on a whim, I hope at least someone enjoys it! Perhaps I'll try something similar in the future.

INEVITABLE DISCLAIMER: This has got birds and bees and some straight sex between such! I don't think it's as smuttily detailed as I normally do for sex scenes, since that would kinda disrupt the narrative, but it's still vivid, and there. So don't be offended. Bitch.

Curiosity. The workings of an inquiring mind. Things always jumping in your head and jabbing you in the back of the skull until you satisfy the thirst for knowledge. Might not sound like such a big thing to most, but in my line of work it's a requirement. Perhaps I'm just more prone to it than I should be. I'm a detective, or at least that's what humans might call me. Other than "that weird Honchkrow who snoops around the alleyways." In essence, I'm just a bird who knows a lot of things and is pretty good at finding out more things. Other Pokemon will come to me and offer whatever they can to help them figure something out, but usually, it's my own curiosities that fuel my adventures. And I've got an interesting one coming up soon enough.

Ah, the telltale whistling noise approaching from behind me. My little partner in crime, so to speak. It's kind of weird to realize you have someone who idolizes you. Especially if they're not even of your evolutionary line. This Chatot came to me many many moons ago, giddy as a schoolgirl to finally get the stones to speak to me, and eager as anyone I've ever seen to join this investigation business of mine. Took a little while but he finally convinced me to take him under my wing. "Forte, early as always."

He flutters to me and lands with his eager chirping noises, the side pack hanging across his chest making a slight clatter from the objects inside it. "Coulda been here earlier, Mr. Shadow! Got sidetracked, a little scatterbrained, you know how it is, right?"

Mr. Shadow. "The Shadow" is a nickname that sprung up for me amongst curious Pokes who had no idea who I was. It eventually stuck. It's almost like a super hero name to these younger ones. It's the only thing Forte calls me, despite the fact that he knows my real name. I just ignore it. "I take it those are the Repels."

He nods several times. "The best I could get, Mr. Shadow! That's kinda where I got sidetracked, you know. Looking for the best. The best investigators need the best equipment, I say!"

Cute kid. He just doesn't know when to shut up. I suppose it's a species thing. "I hope we won't need to use them offensively."

"So where we headed, Mr. Shadow?"

Like I haven't told this to him several times already. I think he just likes hearing me talk about adventures. So I tell him all over again. We're going to investigate a very large beehive I stumbled on deep in the nearby forest. Hell, it's not even really a singular hive. It's just a big area that the bees have taken over. There's hives, sure, but they're deeper in. They don't block off their little area, but no one is gonna dare step foot in that kind of place anyway. Although some claim that they have, and they received no ill treatment. That's what has me even more dreadfully curious about this whole setup. "Aren't Beedrills supposed to be super territorial, Mr. Shadow? Why wouldn't anyone get attacked?"

"Beats me, little buddy. But that's not even the weirdest part."

"It's the hybrid thing, right? Right?"

Proof that he remembers the story just fine. "The hybrid thing" means it's a hybrid hive. It's got both Beedrills & Combees in it. I've never seen the two different bee species working as one like that, which is probably part of why they've taken over such a large area. A hybrid hive with apparently non-aggressive Beedrills? I can't sit back and ignore it. I have to see the place for myself. I have to know. The thirst for knowledge. "Well since you're here and ready, we might as well go now."

"Hehehe! Oh boy, an adventure! And a daaaangerous one... Maybe. Possibly."

Cute kid. Very bright. Could be a good investigator like me in the future, if he doesn't ditch it for something else. We take flight toward the deeper parts of the forest, Forte close behind me, singing a song of nothingness like he always does. He's usually pretty chatty when we fly to a mission, but, I guess this one is exciting enough for a good Chatot song. Personally I don't find bee stings all that exciting. Hopefully the Repels will do their job, or the non-aggressive rumors are true. My sidekick is all chatty with the "Are we there yet"s just before we reach the landing point. The flight here maybe took five minutes. I wish he wasn't so impatient. "Yes, Forte. We are here."

"Woohoo! I'm so excited, Mr. Shadow!"

I land on a fat branch of a large tree. The hive entrance is a short ways away. "Well you're gonna have to bottle it up, because I don't want that mouth of yours stirring up a hive of trouble, got me?"

He nods several times. The smile doesn't even leave his face. I am a little worried about his mouth, but I'm sure he'll behave himself. I instruct him to pull out a Repel can and spray us down. He does it quite easily. I have a hard time messing with those human items with my wings. He probably practiced. "You're all saturated in it, Mr. Shadow!"

He expends the rest of that can on himself. "Good. Keep another one out, in case we gotta spray it at them. But don't use it unless I tell you to, or if you're in immediate danger. We don't wanna agitate them."

"Gotcha covered, big guy!"

He holds the can in his wings and aims it around like he was holding a gun. Cute kid. We hop off the tree and quietly walk our way to the bee-owned part of the forest. It's easy to see where it is. Honey trees have sprouted up all over the place back here, and most are twinkling with a layer of it across their bark. Eventually we reach the major concentration of honey trees. I can't even see many regular trees. Perhaps the bees got rid of them. Make this part of the forest look different, to mark it as territory. Cautiously, we enter. I can feel Forte sticking close behind me, a sudden fear of the situation coming over him, I suppose. Maybe he should take up a singing career instead. "Starting to disbelieve the non-aggressive rumor already, little buddy?"

"I wasn't believing or disbelieving... Just being cautious at the moment, Mr. Shadow."

Sure thing, kid. But you're short sighted. They would have been on us before we reached the pure concentration of honey trees if they intended to attack. We're pretty far into their territory now. I know for a fact our presence is known. And yet we hardly even get a puzzled look from a passing Weedle... Fascinating. "You're introspective, Mr. Shadow."

I swear sometimes he's telekinetic. "I'm pretty sure by now the rumor is true. They're well aware of our presence, but they do nothing."

"Fascinating!"

Telekinetic. Or just taking all my favorite words. Getting deeper, I can see the various Combee and Beedrill flying about their routines, either on the honey trees, or into defined paths leading to the normal forests, where undoubtedly there exists flowers and other plants for them to gather resources for their productions. So it's true, then. Harmony between the two bee species. I even see Combee taking passing watch over the wandering Weedles and hanging Kakuna pods that litter the scattered normal trees. Just how many individuals have seen this place of wonder? Are we the first? Can't be the first. "Um, Mr. Shadow?"

It takes a few prods from my apprentice to snap me out of my wonderous daze. Can't a guy enjoy his surroundings in peace? "Forte, Forte, what is it?"

"Front and center."

Damn my mind's wanderings. I nearly walk right into a few Beedrill buzzing in front of me. I'm almost surprised it took so long for some to come interact with me. "Er, em, greetings!"

"We have not seen feathered ones come through our forest hive in quite some time. What is your interest?"

Open, yet blunt. Robotic, possibly formulaic. Is this how the hive drones speak? Makes some sense to me. "Simply a professional curiosity, my insectoid friend. I had heard rumors... good rumors, of course... about this place, and erm, saw fit to see it myself. I mean no harm, I assure you."

They buzz in place for a moment, just sort of... staring at me. Forte is up close to me again. I think he dropped the Repel. One of them flies away after glancing at the others. "Very well, feathered one. I believe our queen would be interested in a meeting."

Now this is unexpected. "... The queen? Me? Surely I am not worthy of such."

"She has already decided, pending word of your intentions. You may follow me. The smaller feathered one may stay and converse."

Converse? The bees are in for a treat there. Forte is back to reality and bobbing his head with his eager nods. He's trying to mask his continuing fear. I can tell. Maybe they can to. "Well... I suppose out of professional courtesy, it would be ill-mannered of me to decline. Forte, use your investigative mind, view this place, and... well we shall have a discussion of it later!"

He just nods at me. It's a rarity that something totally shuts him up. I guess he's a little overwhelmed. I'm iffy on leaving my apprentice behind, but, I sense no ill-will in these insects. My wits and my intuition are age-tested and sharp. His are still growing. I'm sure this will be a great learning experience. "Follow, feathered one."

My head awash with curiosity, I follow the bee. He takes me ever deeper into their honey tree paradise, toward a thick part of non-honey trees. They're very closely grown together, it seems. I even have trouble getting through them, given I'm not a bee buzzing its merry way around and between the trunks. It is all worth it however, as past the wall of trees lies... the queen herself. A beauty of a Vespiquen, her slender body longer than other queen bees I've seen. She's relaxing upon a large cushion of some sort... It appears to have been fashioned by humans. But it's not the only thing. The trees surrounding this grotto block out the sky. The area is illuminated by a circle of light fixtures on metal poles... more human design. It appears this dame is interested in the luxuries of the other side. "Come closer, darling, you're still basking in the darkness."

Her voice hits me like a knife. Or a bee sting. Smooth, elegant, seasoned. Probably to be expected from royalty, but, it gets to me anyway. I stroll into the actual light of the grotto, her eyes piercing me like her own follower's stingers. "An honor to meet you, majesty of the insects."

She dismisses the group of Beedrill who hover close to her with a simple hand motion. Within seconds, we are alone. This is curious. "A detective, an investigator. An adventurer with a inquisitive mind of almost unparalleled depth. To think it took so long for The Shadow to discover this little slice of genus apis heaven."

I'm thrown for a loop. I shouldn't be, but I am anyway. She knows all about me. "I see my reputation precedes me, even within the deepest parts of the forest wood."

"I know more about the world around me than I should, given how I rarely leave this extended hive of mine. And of course, here you are to view my paradise. Do you find it your liking?"

"It is... exquisite, I must say. Even in all my years of exploring I have never viewed a combination hive."

"They are not as rare as you may think, darling. Uncommon, yes, but they are there. And it doesn't take a lot of effort to tame those lovely stingers. Not for me, anyway"

It takes me a moment to process that one. The Beedrills. Normally very aggressive, but here, complacent. "Your will is like fire, even to the aggressive side of the suborder."

"Oh, darling, it can be like fire to most any Pokemon who wanders through these trees."

She stares those stinging eyes through me again. I know she sees me flinch. My comment about her will is grounded in truth, but she's oddly focused on me. What is she planning? "So, someone like me, dear queen?"

Her eyes turn away as a wry smile crosses her insectoid face. "If I didn't have a reason for you being here in my grotto, you wouldn't be. Truth is, I am in season, and my Beedrill legion is proving to be inadequate in proving they're worthy suitors."

I begin to notice the scent in the air. She's used a Sweet Scent move, and I didn't even notice. But evidently she's changed the fragrance. I do my best not to react to it. "The Beedrills? Ah... a worthy suitor from the other side to increase the Combee part of the hive..."

"Indeed, darling. But they must prove they're good enough to hold the honor. So far, I'm getting nothing, and a woman has needs, feathered one."

Her eyes dig back into me. I'm beginning to register what's going on here. My face is glowing, and I bet she knows it. "Surely I'm not worthy of such a privilege... A simple bird."

Her laugh is smooth as silk, dark as my own feathers. "The Shadow? A simple bird? You are a bird of myth and intrigue, darling, and you could call me a fan."

I almost don't register the loud buzzing noise that follows. A swarm of her dormant assistant Combee leave the honeycomb on her lower abdomen, swarming my body and carrying me up to land on her. They're gone as fast as they came. There's no use trying to leave her. I feel one of her long arms is around me, the other sliding its claws underneath my beak. That scent is quite powerful up here. "I... am flattered, I must say..."

I'm finding myself at a loss for words, and doesn't she see it. She knows I'm flabbergasted. A will like fire, strong and imposing. Nothing else could bring a hybrid hive like this together. And nothing else could leave me in such an emotional state. She's got me beaten. She relishes it. "You're not going to be making any Combee, but you'll be doing me a grand favor, my lovely feathered one."

I try not to flinch as her claws explore me. I fail. This is the last thing I could have expected in my trip here. And then my mind wanders back to something I nearly let slip away from me. "I have a partner here..."

She speaks before I can even continue, a wide smile on her face. "That adorable little songbird? Yes. I'm sure he's already been led to the... female Beedrill nest. They're quite needy themselves, given all their wonderful males are fawning over me. You likely won't see him for some time... But you'll be busy anyway."

That poor boy. Or perhaps, lucky boy? I'm sure he'll tell me which one he felt he was. That and many other things, the chatterbox. The Beedrills likely washed all that Repel off him too. I knew the queen would be immune to it. "As long as he's in good hands..."

"Do not worry for him, darling. He will have not a scratch. You might, however, if you stall me anymore..."

Heh. There's hardly any use arguing with her. I'm just about through being weird about this. I'm ready to start wondering how I got this lucky, and indulging in the rewards reaped by this new found luck. She knows how it's all getting to me, especially now that her roaming claws have found the result of her powerful scent fluttering right to my face. "Well now... By the feel of things you could please any Vespiquen in the land, darling."

I can't even come up with a smooth retort. My mind is a mess of pleasure, damn this dame and her scent. Her other arm leaves its spot around me and gives me a push just slightly down her form, to her... spot. I thank my stars it's not the bottom of the honeycomb. Two of her claws are back to my chin area as I break the ice, our calls of pleasure sounding to the grotto's air simultaneously. "Now you have the right idea, birdy..."

I can't even speak to her. She feels like heaven around me. A hot, terminally needy insectoid goddess leaving herself open for my attempts at sedation. My body moves all on its own, my mind unable to keep my attention on rhythm or technique. I don't even think she cares, judging by her noises. I'm making noises too, I think. I can't hear them. My hearing is tuning out all but her luscious voice, calling out in sounds of pleasure, soon leaning up close to my face and whispering sweet nothings. A will of fire, dominating all of my senses to revolve around her. She's unnatural. A dream. A goddess. Her face is pressed into my feathery form, rumbling against my skin with her pleasured noises, planting kisses up to my chin. Her voice, dark & soothing as the night is black, stings me. "That's a good birdy..."

I climax. I can feel it all, and I can hear & feel her every reaction. I hear nothing else. I could have screamed, I do not know. But she is far from sedated, and I'm not even stopping. Like an engine my body is undeterred. Is this her doing? Her scent... Her pheromones released. All of it was her doing, I just know it. This insect goddess. The will of fire. She played me like a toy and I love her for it. I press as close as I can to her as I take in her sweet noises of bliss, her moans of delight, and eventually her scream of climax. It was bound to happen, and it only excites me more. I can't stop giving it to her. She won't be sedated. Is this what the Beedrills experience when they gain the honor of breeding their queen? And here she is, letting a bird like me feel what it's like. I honestly don't feel as worthy as she thinks I am. But I can't think about that. I won't. I've been given a grand gift and I'm damn well accepting it with a furor.

Another scream, I think. Another climax. I can't stop. My upper body rises up to the air above her form as I ravish her body. Her claws of both arms latch to my feathers as she yells out her noises of lust to me now, in lieu of whispers. I think she climaxes again. I'm lost in her sea. All that exists in my mind is the feeling of our connection and the sound of her voice. Her claws eventually pull me down again, and I hold as close as I can to her, not letting her go. It's getting ever harder for me to hold on, and I'm sure she knows it. "You're perfect, darling..."

Her final whisper nearly kills my senses as my body claims her again. I think she lost it, too. I am unsure. I am now lost to the darkness, my body finally giving out to its fatigue all in a single moment. Our coupling felt short, yet timeless. I drift in a sea of pleasure for lord knows how long, before I am suddenly awake once more. "... My queen?"

Outside the grotto. No, near the entrance of the entire place. My head feels lighter than air. I stand, but almost fall over. Night is starting to show in the sky above. That coupling with her lasted for longer than it seemed, or I've just been in a lust-induced sleep for a good while. That dame. That goddess. I've never felt anything like that in any of my adventures. "The Shadow."

The droned voice snaps me back to reality. It's one of her Beedrill. I make some strange groggy noise in attempting to acknowledge him. I don't think he cares. "My queen sends to you her greatest gratitude, and an invitation to visit again. For now, she is resting, and we leave you here to your devices."

I finally get my head back into gear, mentally pulling it back down to solid ground. An invitation for another visit? I'll keep that in mind for the future. "I thank you, sir insect. You have all been, em, most gracious."

The bee says nothing more, and flies away. Behind me, scattered out-of-tune chirps. That's a rarity for him. "Ohhh, Mr. Shadow."

I turn and walk to my apprentice, holding him steady as he tries to stand. Lord, is he even going to be able to fly? "Forte, how are you feeling?"

"I... am unsure at this moment, sir. I think my head is a million different places at this moment."

Don't I know the feeling. "Do you think you can fly, my boy?"

He adjusts his Repel pack and attempts to do his several nods, but only succeeds in inducing a dizzy spell. "Oof... I'm sure I'll manage, Mr. Shadow, just... make sure I don't screw up."

I only chuckle, and we take flight to the air. Very awkwardly, but home isn't too far. He seems to manage just fine. "Boy, Mr. Shadow, have I got a story to tell you."

"I'm sure I have a good for you too, little buddy. Discussion will have to wait until I am fully rested."

"Well yes... Besides, this may be the longest discussion we've ever had. I'm not gonna forget about this adventure for a long time! Know what I mean?"

Cute kid. Maybe I can convince him to take an oratory job instead...
