Maid's View

A quickie for a mate. A pathetically small output for having been quiet so long, and for that I apologise.

With a quick ruffle of her wings, Maid dropped into her favourite chair, a comfortable plush cushion over a wheeled base. The medium grey of her feathers bobbed lightly as the Dutch angel dragon used one clawed paw to push off the closest wall, propelling herself across the main room of her apartment, her target being the unassuming drawing table beside the laptop sitting open on a wooden chest of drawers. One push wasn't enough to cross the spacey area, however, and she alternated legs to kick off various other surfaces to keep the momentum rolling, holding a steady pace at a convenient direction as she bumped over the uncarpeted wooden planks making up her floor.

The first of the windows on the western wall of Maid's apartment momentarily sent her into blindness, a vibrant yet sweet glow from the sun setting through a cloudless sky shining inside like a torch through darkness. The cute dragon appreciated the daily natural beauty enough to throw her arm to the side, grabbing at a windowsill corner to bring the chair to a halt. Allowing some seconds for her eyes to adjust, as if she was squinting into said torch, the girl twirled the seat around to bathe in the warm rays of light, coloured magnificently through a light haze over the city which she and many other anthros inhabited. While the fourth-floor apartment couldn't be said to tower over the rest of the city, at the highest level of the apartment block it was sufficient for an attractive view over the relatively-flat surrounding suburban developments separated by luscious streaks of natural greenery. The largest obstacle in even a decent proximity was a modest two-story block also constructed into a set of luxurious flats, directly to the west; the two buildings were split by a simple well-kept asphalt road lined on either side by footpaths, along which many people were watched by Maid as they took advantage of the city's clean air while on a morning jog.

Having given the closest pavement a quick scan while her beady eyes adjusted to the sunlight, she lifted her line of sight to an adjacent flat she knew relatively well, glancing over the solar panels reflecting shine onto the lower walls of her building to focus on a particular tiled balcony almost directly across from the window she was gazing from. The bland, untreated squares forming the floor of said balcony were a simple grey over the brownish bricks of which its building consisted of, but Maid was solely interested in seeking out the only furniture visible: two black lounge chairs, perpendicular to each other and arranged so that the closest corners nearly touched both the flimsy glass wall on the open side of the balcony while retaining ample leg space for any two beings who decided to relax in another's company. A glint shone from the angel dragon's adorable yet sharp teeth as a smile appeared on her muzzle, a calming friendliness filling her as she laid eyes upon the dark cat often found to be resting on one of the chairs, soaking up as much warmth could be retrieved from the reflection of her own building. She had first met Erebus, owner of the lounge chairs, balcony, and the rest of the adjacent apartment, upon greeting his neighbour, a lady whom she regularly saw standing by the sliding glass doors between the interior and balcony of her own apartment. It was only a few organised get-togethers before Maid and Erebus had agreed on a friendship, despite the man's often-dismissive personality.

Once again, Maid took in the sight of his most common position: simply laying back on the lounge chair, elbows placed on the armrests and fingers interlocking over his broad chest. Her grin grew slightly as she lifted an arm and gave him a little wave, trusting that the sudden movement would catch the cat's attention since he happened to have his head turned to her general direction. After a couple of seconds, she was proven correct as Erebus acknowledged her with a predictably unenthusiastic curl of one hand raised slightly off his chest; unperturbed since she expected such a noncommittal response, Maid's attention was drawn back to the picturesque landscape visible through a faded orange hue formed by the early evening sunlight. Sitting some inches forward in her own comfortable seat, the angel dragon couldn't help but retain her adorable smile as she took in the familiar sights of subtle roads criss-crossing between areas of development and recreational bushland; plenty of kids were out to play in the comforting afternoon atmosphere.
