The Last Part of the Three Part Story

Back at the present

"We are going to stay and fight. There are too many lives at risk in to just leave. Anyone who wants to leave can be dismissed from duty." Captain Thron said. No one moved. "Good. Engineer Wiese, we need as much engine power as you can give. Commander Heath I want all weapons fully loaded and ready for fire on my mark. Mr. Wilcox turn the ship back toward the enemy and head straight at em." the captain ordered. The Wolfs Fury's bridges jumped to life as his orders were carried out. The Wolfs Fury turned at full speed straight for the enemy vessels.

Radar officer Coble said, "Enemy ships are back in sensor range sir. At present speed ten minutes until main gun range, but we are in missile range."

"Captain, all anti-ship missile platforms are locked on target ships and ready to fire." Holtzer told the captain.

Thron commanded, "Fire missiles now!" The ship vibrated as four missiles launched from the Wolfs Fury's missile launchers and went to their targets.

"Captain," Heath blurted out, "Another wave of enemy missiles inbound."

"Evasive maneuvers Mr. Wilcox! Heath, destroy those incoming missiles!" Thron commanded. The Gatling guns on the ship lit up, shooting thousands of bullets at the incoming missiles.

Heath reported, "Captain sensors confirm no hits on each enemy vessels." A missile hit the Wolfs Fury in the hull. The ship rocked, throwing the Captain and his officers across the bridge.

"Damage control reports flooding on decks two through four, and fires on deck six. There trying to stop them." Coble reported.

"Darn it! Reload missiles and fire again. Are we in main battery range yet!?" Thron snarled.

"We are sir! We are thirty miles from the enemy. We have radar lock on all three enemy ships." Holtzer said.

"Wilcox," the captain ordered, "Turn the ship south so we can broadside them."

"Yes sir," he replied. Wilcox turned the ships wheel, and the battleship Wolfs Fury began to turn south. Once the compass was facing south he said, "We are in prime firing position sir and holding."

"Prepare to fire." the captain said. The Wolfs Fury had quite a lethal bite. Twelve eighteen inch guns began to turn toward their targets. There are four turrets two, in the bow facing fore, two in the stern facing aft, and each turret has three guns on it. These massive guns fire shells weighing three thousand pounds up to a range of thirty miles or more with pinpoint accuracy.

"All guns lock and loaded and ready to fire." Heath said.

Thron gave the command, "Fire!" With a deafening explosion all twelve sixteen inch guns fired at once. The force rocked the ship so much that some crew members lost their balance. The vibrations the guns made were felt all throughout the ship. The enemy would feel the wrath of the Wolfs Fury. A silence on the Wolfs Fury's bridge. Only weapons officer Heath spoke. Counting down the time to impact.

Thron looked out the bridge view screen and windows, "Give be live footage of the enemy ships." He ordered

Captain Thron saw massive explosions on the three enemy ships. "Yes, we got 'em!! We hit them hard too!!" Everyone one the bridge cheered in happiness, but it was short lived.

At the lookouts station, lookout Rinehart said, "Three torpedoes incoming ahead off the starboard bow captain."

"Hard a starboard" the captain said, but Wilcox was not at his post. Thron jumped up and grabbed the ships wheel turned it right until it was hard over. The Wolfs Fury pitched hard right to avoid the torpedoes. Two of the torpedoes missed the ship by a few feet. The third hit the ship right behind second bow gun turret directly in front of the bridge. There was an explosion as a column of water shot up from where the torpedo hit.

The glass on the bridge shattered at the impact sending pieces of glass as shrapnel at Thron and his bridge crew. A piece struck Thron on the arm and he was bleeding badly. Glass hit Heath and Wilcox in the arm and leg. "Return fire now! I want those vessels destroyed."

Heath got to the com and said, "All main guns fire at will." Again the massive sixteen inch guns fired.

"Turn the ship straight at the enemy full speed and get as close to them as you can" the captain ordered.

"Damage control to bridge!"

Thron answered, "What's the situation?"

"This is Corporal Adam Corbet. We have high casualties down here. The ship is listing starboard, and we are trying to stop the flooding and fires. We should have them under control in a few minutes."

"Keep the ship together Corbet we need to survive this day." Thron said.

"Sir." Officer Coble said, "Radar confirms hits and massive damage on all enemy vessels."

Heath reported, "All guns reloaded sir, but there is damage on turret two; it can't rotate. Should we fire again?

"No. Mrs. Brown, open a channel to the enemy ships" Thron said.

"Channel open sir" the fox replied.

"This is Thron of the Wolferian Battleship Wolfs Fury. Your ships are heavenly damaged and immobilized. Surrender now and prepare to be boarded."

"We are six miles from enemy ships sir," the young fox Lieutenant Wilcox said "If they fire at this close range there won't be enough time for evasive maneuvers."

"And" first officer Holtzer said, "If they fire missiles, we won't have time to react with Gatling guns." He combed his hand though his fur.

"Captain we are getting a response" Brown said.

"Have all countermeasures on standby. Put the transmission on screen." Thron replied.

The bridge screen was greeted by a lion. His light fur and darker mane showed his experience and age. The lion had a visible wound across his broad chest. His glared at the Wolferian crew baring his teeth.

"Captain Thron," the lion in a think accent said, " You have been a worthy adversary. For mouths you hunted us down and now the predator is ready to make the kill. This prey refuses to go down however.Me and my companions have one thing for you, your ship, and your crew. Death!"

"Captain!" the wolf Heath yelped, "All missile batteries and guns on enemy ships are locked onto us."

"Fire. Fire now before it's too late. Wilcox turn the ship ninety degrees to the east, at full speed!" The weapons on the enemy ships fired at the same time the Wolfs Fury's guns fired. The Wolfs Fury's shells hit all three enemy ships and all three went up in flames in a massive explosive fireball. a barrage of missiles and shells hit the Wolfs Fury all over. Ten shells from the enemy ships' five inch guns hit the Wolfs Fury's superstructure. Two missile hit at the base on the ships superstructure. Two more hit on the sterns upper decks. One missile hit right behind the stern turrets, and the last one struck the Wolfs Fury in the bow. The ship erupted into a fireball sending a shock wave all around.

The bridge, where the captain and his officers were, was on fire, and black smoke filled it. The Captain was wounded and so were his senior officers. His pristine silver fur now matted and blood covered. He limped to the intercom and announced, "All hands abandon ship repeat, all hands abandon ships. Mrs. Brown if you're still able send a message to base, tell them our location and that the stolen ships are destroyed."

In a weak voice, she replied, "Yes sir." Thron got up and limped to Coble, Heath, Holtzer, and Wilcox and got each of them out of the smoking bridge. After sending the message, Brown got out too. The automatic sprinkler systems doused the fires on the bridge, but the rest of the ship was still in flames and taking on water.

As Thron got his first last officer, Commander Heath to a life raft, he stopped. Wilcox said "Come on Captain get in the raft." Coble looked at him and said, "Yes, please get in. We can make it."

Thron replied, "No. I must make sure everyone else is off first then me; its my duty as captain."

Holtzer said, "Don't be an idiot Thron. Get in the raft so you can live."

"Gentlemen, ladies, it has an honor sailing with you the past ten years. We've been through a lot. I ask one favor of you. Remember me." At that Thron launched the raft into the water. His officers, his friends, watched from the raft with tears in their eyes as Thron limped back into the ship.

Twenty minutes later Thron went down to engineering and found Chief Engineer Drew Wiese unconscious at a turbine. Thron gathered his remaining strength and limped the hefy bear Drew up to a hatch. Drew then woke and said, "Captain what are you doing? Don't worry about me you need to get off the ship."

"I can't do that old friend." Thron said. "How are the engines?"

Drew said, "They have just enough power to guide the ship away from the crew. I stayed with em till the last minute."

"Good job" Thron replied. Then Thron put a life vest on Drew and pushed him out the hatch.

The captain finally limped back to the bridge and sat in his command chair. He made sure all automatic sprinklers were on and all watertight doors were shunt to make sure the ship won't sink. He needed to guide the vessel away from crew in case of another explosion. The ships fires were starting to spread to the bridge. He then turned on the Wolfs Fury's intercom so what was left of his crew in rafts and life vest in the water can hear what he had to say.

"You all fought bravely today. I am proud of all off you. The captain must go down with his ship though. It was a great honor to serve with you all. You will all remember this battle, the last true battleship to fight in battle, it will be called."

Then Thron began to sing the song and old song of his people. As he sang an explosion went through the ship. The bridge went up in flames. All of the crew watched in horror as their captain died and his ship burned. One of the main guns fired as in salute to the fallen captain.

About three hours later, help did arrive, three cruisers and a carrier. The Wolfs Fury was still afloatt, which was a surprise to everyone. The fires had subdued leaving a floating hulk of metal. The remaining crew of the Wolfs Fury was picked up by the ships. The Wolfs Fury was doused of the remaining flames and patched up. One of the cruisers towed the ship back to port in. Captain Thron's body was never found. A week later, there was a memorial service for the families who lost loved ones. There, all of Captain Thron's senior officers spoke. First officer Holtzer said when he spoke were, "These are our dear captains' last words, "Remember me and this battle as the last true battleship to fight in battle." Captain we miss you and thank you for your service."

But is the Captain really dead though?

The End.
