The desert heat rippled across the sands some distance out from the city where the two were being held. The midday sun beat down on the miles of sand... until they came upon a small oasis. The patch of greenery was totally out of place in the hardpan; the driest area in the desert, and yet here it was. In the center of this curious place, the remains of an ancient temple stood, crawling vines growing up the walls. Near the very center of the ruin, one chamber remained with a roof, though it was mostly open to the oasis surrounding it.
In the very center was a pool of crystalline water and on the edge of that pool laid a sphinx. Shi was no ordinary sphinx, though. ((In case you were wondering, I call then 'Two Page' stories because when I type them, I use Word, Century Gothic font, size 12, I then try to keep the story at 2 pages, or just under. I tend to overwrite sometimes, so I'm training myself. I had to erase or reword about a page of this one! So what did you think?))
