#2 of Chasing the Horizon

Doberman street racer Diego lives a fast lifestyle comprising of exotic cars and casual sex. He delivers expensive automobiles to wealthy furs while smuggling illegal items to earn money on the side. When given a lucrative job of delivering a Shelby Mustang and a secret package to a mysterious client within a specific time-limit, he enthusiastically takes the offer, wanting to use his paycheck to retire from illegal work once and for all. However, the situation takes a complicated turn when he runs into his new neighbour Spike, a Coyote and a disillusioned police officer on a mission of his own.

Spike led Diego into the apartment's living room and sat down "So, what do you want to tell me?" He asked Diego took a seat on the couch and gazed at the floor. He was still wearing his gym clothes from that morning and Spike could make out Diego's toned chest through the material of his wifebeater. Yet despite his muscular build, the Doberman seemed to physically shrink away from Spike and his expression was nervous "I wanted to say, sorry I've been a dick to you. I..." he sighed "dammit, I really like you, I always have. I was trying to cover it up" When Diego stopped talking, Spike sat in silence for a moment, mulling Diego's words over in his head "That makes sense, I guess" Spike eventually said "I was gonna order a pizza, if you want some?" "Uh, sure" Diego replied "I left my cell phone in the kitchen" Spike explained as he stood up "I prefer just cheese pizza, if that's ok?" "Yeah man, I'm cool with that" "Put on a movie if you want" Spike said as he made his way to the kitchen. Diego glanced around the apartment. Unlike his, Spike's gave more of an insight into the type of fur who inhabited it. The living room was laid out in what could be described as organised chaos. Most of Spike's belongings had not yet been unpacked and sat in cardboard boxes. There were vintage movie posters and reproductions of classic paintings on the walls or lying on the floor. Spike also seemed to be a voracious reader. There were two boxes sitting by the couch that were overflowing with books. Diego could only see one picture that looked like a family photograph on the wall. It showed Spike sitting next to an elderly female Coyote with glasses wresting on the bridge of her muzzle. The photograph looked like it had been taken when Spike was a teenager. He was dressed in a baggy varsity shirt and had a floppy fringe, but other than that, his looks had not changed. Diego could also tell that the female Coyote was Spike's grandmother, as she had the same grey and fulvous fur pattern. She and Spike were smiling happily, but Spike's arm was positioned tightly around her shoulders in a protective manner. Diego was also intrigued to see a stack of vinyl records and CDs sitting by the television. He stood up to examine them; they were a random assortment of pop, oldies rock, nineties alternative and classical music. Diego's cell phone began to vibrate in his pocket, he cast a surreptitious glance towards the kitchen before pulling it out. His eyes widened in alarm when he saw Karl's name on the caller ID.

Risking another glance back at the kitchen, Diego answered the call "Hey Dobie dawg" the Rottweiler drawled seductively "where are you man? I'm looking forward to you pinning me down and fucking my brains out" "Karl, I can't right now" Diego whispered desperately "Do you want a drink, I've got wine, beer?" Spike called from the kitchen "Uh, wine" Diego replied, hastily holding the phone to his chest to mute the sound "Who was that?" Karl asked "Nobody, look I gotta go" "Hey, you've got someone with you. Wait don't tell me, you've got yourself a boyfriend! Is he into threesomes?" Karl teased "Karl!" Diego hissed "look, I'll have some fun with you when I get back from Denver" "Ok, fine" Karl replied, giving an exaggerated sigh "Sorry man, gotta go. I'll tell you about it tomorrow" Diego said before hanging up. In the kitchen, Spike was opening a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. He looked down at his cell phone and sighed. It was time to call Jones. Sneaking a glance into the living room, he could see Diego talking to someone on his phone. Spike called the number Jones had shown him and it was answered immediately "Good evening, how can we help?" a female voice said "Uh, I'd like to speak to Mr. Jones, please" Spike said, hoping he'd remembered the number correctly "One moment" There was a moment of static before the distinct voice of the terrier spoke "Yes?" He demanded "I'm with Diego now" Spike explained "Good. Has he told you anything?" "Not yet" Spike said "Then get him talking, call me back when you have more information" Jones instructed. The line went dead. Spike weighed his phone in his paw and then called to order the pizza. He poured a glass of wine and realised that his paws were shaking. He knocked the glass back like it was a shot of vodka and the wine burnt against his throat. "_What are you doing?"_his mind screamed at him.

Spike returned to the living room with the wine to see Diego examining the record collection "Oh, uh, sorry man" he said, putting the disc he was holding back down. Spike was surprised at how polite the Doberman's demeanour had become "Hey, it's no problem" Spike replied "browse as much as you want" "My cousin Wolter collects these. He's now a DJ in Berlin" Diego explained "we did sets together in LA when he came to visit me" "Most of those records used to be my grandfather's" Spike said Diego flicked through them, not recognising many of the names asides the Hip Hop and R&B artists "You see much of your family?" Spike asked casually as he poured two glasses of wine "Nah, not anymore" Diego replied impassively. He joined Spike back on the couch "I'm surprised you chose wine" Spike mused, handing a glass over "Heh, I'm from Chile originally, and they grow wine there. Well, I'm also half German. My papa lives in Germany now, but my mom is still in Chile" "Ah, I see" Spike replied "Wine and old music, you're a pretty sophisticated canine for a rookie cop" Diego said, sniffing at his glass before taking a sip "Thanks" Spike snorted "I look young but I'm no rookie" "Oh sorry dude, I didn't mean..." "It's ok" Spike said, taking another gulp of wine. They sat in silence as the television blinked in the background. Diego gazed into Spike's eyes as they reflected the soft light. He sensed something lying beneath Spike's exterior that he had not seen in other furs. He couldn't put his paw on what it was, but he suddenly felt intrigued to learn more about the Coyote. Meanwhile, Spike was trying to think of something to say to prompt Diego into talking about his plans to leave town "You still look like your moving in" Diego observed "I mean, you must have been here for like a month now" "Honestly, I'm lacking motivation to sort my stuff out right now" Spike explained "I need to sort my life out in general" he added bitterly Diego cocked his head in curiosity "Yeah, that was kinda dark" Spike said, splaying his ears "I'd like to move into a bigger place soon" Diego admitted "so my apartment has nothing in it right now" "You gonna move all by yourself?" Spike asked, sipping more wine "I guess" Diego replied with a shrug. The thought of sharing a new place with another fur had never really occurred to him "So, you always wanted to be a cop?" He asked Spike hesitated. He did not want to answer the question, but the fact he hadn't had anything to eat since that morning was causing the wine to go straight to his head. Screw it, I'll tell Diego he thought. _ _

"No" Spike began, setting his glass down. He clenched his fists and narrowed his eyes "My parents sent me to a private school, thinking I was gonna become a lawyer or a doctor or something. I was doing well until I came out to someone who I thought was my best friend. The next day everyone knew and my life became hell. The principle wouldn't do anything about it. I shouldn't have played attention to what the other kids said, but I let it get to me. I started lashing out at anyone who tried to help me and got a reputation for being grouchy and unfriendly. Then I flunked all my exams" Spike sighed before continuing "Anyway, I retook some classes and joined the LAPD after. It wasn't what my parents wanted, but I guess they were ok with the fact that I got a steady career in something" Diego sat in silence for a moment, taking in Spike's story "Oh. So, are you like, out to your parents?" He eventually asked "I hinted to them several times, but they refused to believe it. They kept asking if I had girlfriend after I moved out, but they've given up on that. I barely talk to them now. I have a younger sister, she's captain of the school Lacrosse team and they say she's gonna get into an Ivy League college. All their attention is focused on her now, but I don't care. I still talk to my grandmother though. She's the only one in the family I communicate with" There was an awkward silence after Spike had finished speaking. Spike felt his ears burning with embarrassment "Aw buddy" Diego sighed, and Spike could see what looked like genuine sympathy in his eyes. The intercom buzzed, announcing the arrival of the pizza. They ate in silence but the food enabled Spike to sober up.

"Listen, about the licence thing, I..." Diego began "No, it's ok. I'll sort it out" Spike replied, he sighed and looked Diego in the eye "Please, stay the night with me" His amber eyes gazed intensely at Diego. Diego hesitated and then smiled "Sure, of course I will" Spike shifted over, his expression growing more passionate "I never thought we'd be together like this" he murmured Diego didn't reply. Instead, he held the Coyote in his strong arms and their muzzles met for a kiss. Spike closed his eyes as he felt Diego's tongue make its way into his mouth but he still felt shaky. Diego sensed this and stopped "Just relax dude" he whispered into Spike's ear. They continued kissing for a minute, allowing their tongues to explore each other's mouths, until Spike broke off "Wanna lie on the bed?" He asked He took Diego by the paw and led him to the bedroom. They lay down and continued kissing. Spike slipped a paw up Diego's wifebeater and gently scritched his toned chest "You look so hot in that" Spike whispered teasingly "but I wanna see you without it" Diego grinned and removed his shirt before helping Spike off with his. He held Spike down and began kissing the furry surface of the Coyote's chest and stomach. He then undid Spike's belt and slipped his paw under the waistband of his briefs. Spike moaned appreciatively as Diego stroked and fondled his sheath and balls "Oh, that feels good" Spike sighed Diego then removed Spike's jeans and underwear before stripping naked himself. Spike's eyes gazed earnestly at Diego, urging him to continue. Diego began licking Spike's sheath while continuing to cup and knead his balls. Soon enough, Spike's member emerged. "Here, let me..." Spike moaned, gesturing for them to switch Spike positioned his muzzle in under Diego's balls and copied the Doberman's motions. Diego straddled over Spike on all-fours and continued to suck his cock.

Eventually, Spike sat up so that his muzzle was behind Diego's fine looking, black and tan behind before he began licking at the back of Diego's balls "This has been a dream of mine" Spike admitted "you have a really nice looking ass and I've wanted to see it up close" He positioned his muzzle under Diego's nub, gripped his thighs and began running his tongue intently around Diego's hole "Damn, that feels good" Diego groaned as Spike's rough tongue lapped at his rim "I... didn't say... stop sucking me... Dobie" Spike moaned in between licks Diego grinned and went back down on Spike's cock, jerking him off before putting it back into his mouth and working his muzzle up and down "Oh... Diego" Spike groaned He came into Diego's muzzle a second later. Diego swallowed what he could and collapsed beside Spike. Both canines lay panting for a minute "You want to go further?" Spike asked Diego grinned "Yeah... yeah I do" Spike sat up and retrieved his lube from the bedside table "So..." Diego began "Please, mount me" Spike instructed, He reached over and slicked the lube over Diego's erect and throbbing cock, applying the rest to his tailhole. Spike then presented his rear and raised his tail as Diego probed at his hole with his fingers "Does that feel ok?" He asked "Yeah" Spike breathed "come on Dobie, do it" Diego eased his cock into Spike, checked for any expression of discomfort and began to thrust "You're so big" Spike moaned Diego settled into a steady rhythm. With other furs, he was often hard and aggressive, yet with Spike, his motions were gentle yet passionate. Both canines panted and moaned as they neared their climaxes. Diego's knot swelled and he made the tie "Yote, I'm gonna..." he began before ejaculating hard He withdrew and shot the remaining cum over the Coyote's back. Spike came a second later, gasping in ecstasy. The pair collapsed on the bed, panting in the afterglow "Let's get clean and sleep" Spike eventually suggested. They quickly washed themselves at the bathroom sink. Spike decided that he would take a more thorough shower in the morning. They climbed back into bed naked. Diego hesitated, then placed his arms around Spike "Do you ever feel like just running away?" Spike asked as he stroked Diego's arm "Hmm?" Diego replied "I mean, sometimes I just want to leave this place and make a new start somewhere else" Spike continued Diego sighed, he knew he shouldn't tell Spike about his job to drive the Mustang to Denver. He should have been happy that Spike was going to wipe his record, but instead he felt nothing. There was an uncomfortable feeling nagging at his mind as he sensed a loneliness in Spike that made him feel guilty "Listen, I'm going to drive to Denver tomorrow to deliver a car to a client, then I'm moving to a new place. Come with me" he said "Yeah... yeah I think I will" Spike replied, smiling at Diego. He yawned "Goodnight" he murmured before falling asleep. Diego's eyes grew heavy and soon he drifted off too.

Sunlight peeped through a gap in the blinds as the morning broke. Spike slowly opened his eyes and rolled over. Diego was sleeping soundly beside him. He muttered something, yawned and then his eyes flickered open "Wha... uh" he groaned as he awoke Spike propped himself up on his elbow and grinned at Diego "Morning" he said "Hey Yote" Diego replied "what time is it?" Spike turned over and glanced at the clock beside his bed "Ah crap, I forgot to set my alarm!" he exclaimed, jumping out of bed "I'm going to be late for work" he sighed, picking up clothes from the floor and staggering around, trying to get dressed "Eugh, I'm gonna have to shower when I get there too" he adding, sniffing at himself. Diego got up and stretched before picking his clothes up off the floor "I'm gonna pick up the car at eight" he explained "then I'll get to the station for nine" "And I'll make sure your record is clean" Spike added "Thanks man" Diego replied Spike's phone vibrated "Ah no, I forgot my buddy Joe is giving me a ride this morning" Spike explained He grabbed a suitcase and began to throw clean shirts, socks and underwear into it while Diego got dressed. Both canines left the apartment together "See ya later, and good luck bud" Diego said, heading towards the stairs. Spike made his way down to the street to see Joe sitting in his Dodger Charger "Sorry man, I forgot you were coming" Spike said, climbing in with his suitcase "You going on vacation?" Joe asked "Uh, yeah going to see some friends this weekend, I'm leaving tonight" Spike claimed before changing the subject. Spike was also painfully aware that he had not had time to wash properly and that Joe would surely pick up the scent. He thought he saw Joe sniffing suspiciously at him, but the German Shepherd remained quiet. As soon as they arrived at the station, Spike made straight for his desk. He made a call to the DMV's office to ask if Diego's record had been processed yet. Thankfully, the answer was no. It seemed Joe had left the job down to Spike to pass the details on. Spike brought the record up on his computer and with a few clicks, it was wiped clean. He made his way to the locker room, took a much needed shower and changed into his uniform.

In his apartment, Diego had also washed and changed into a grey sleeveless shirt and a pair of cargo shorts. His cell phone vibrated as Karl called to say that he was waiting outside to drive Diego to his Uncle's garage. Diego made his way outside to see Karl sat behind the wheel of his black 1978 Chevrolet Corvette "Sooo, what were you up to last night? And don't be coy with me" the Rottweiler asked, shooting Diego a grin as they drove off. Diego sighed "Ok fine, I was round another canine's place" "Ha! I knew it. Tell me, what is he like?" "He's, uh, classy" Diego said, purposely trying to stay vague "Classy, huh?" Karl replied "introduce him to me when you're back from Denver. I still wanna know if he's willing to share you" "Seriously, you're the biggest hornball I've ever met" Diego chuckled as he shook his head. They sped along Mulholland Drive and briefly joined the San Diego freeway. The garage was located on an industrial complex and contained inside an anonymous looking warehouse. However, as Karl opened one of the steel shutter doors, a treasure trove of gleaming and expensive metal was revealed. Despite having worked at the garage for the past two years, Diego never failed to marvel at the sight. Luxury and fast cars of all types were lined up inside; Porsches, Jaguars, Ferraris, Aston Martins, Bentleys "Hey, Lucas!" Karl called to Jackal polishing a bright yellow Lamborghini Murcielago "Is the Mustang ready?" "Sure is, follow me" Lucas led them through the lines of cars to a workshop area "There she is, pretty cool car" Lucas said, gesturing to a Shelby Mustang The Mustang was light blue with two distinct white stripes making their way up the hood and along the roof. The paint glistened beneath the strip lights. As Diego watched, two Pitbulls began loading a small package into the trunk "That has to be delivered to the client by midday tomorrow" Karl explained "and here's the address" He handed Diego a sheet of paper. The Pitbulls had finished loading the item and closed the trunk "She's ready to go" Lucas called "Good luck buddy" Karl said, giving Diego a hug "I'll be back in no time" Diego replied, giving Karl a wink. He climbed into the driver's seat and slipped on his fingerless driving gloves. The engine gave a mighty growl as he started it up. Giving Karl a wave, Diego drove out into the sunshine. The Mustang's engine roared as he ripped towards the freeway. Diego reached a set of lights and he could see a road sign showing the way to the district where Spike's police station was. The arrow dictating the route to the freeway pointed in the opposite direction. Diego waited for the lights to change, drumming his paws against the wheel. He could easily leave town without picking up Spike, it would save a lot of explaining to do to his employers. But the nagging feeling of guilt was still persisting "Maybe it'd just put Spike's life in danger, and after all, he's wiped your record and outlived his use to you" one side of his mind told him "No, you made a promise. You can't just leave him" the other said. Ahead, the light was about to turn green. Diego sighed "Fuck it" he growled as he pulled off the line and turned the steering wheel. _ _

Spike had snuck away to change out his uniform and was now waiting outside with his suitcase. He glanced down at his watch and frowned. Diego was supposed to meet him five minutes ago. It was possible the Doberman was stuck in traffic but Spike was starting to feel jittery. One of his superiors could come outside at any moment and ask what he was doing. Spike sat down on the steps and continued to wait. The minutes ticked agonizingly by. Other furs were casting him curious looks as they walked past. Eventually, Spike looked down at his watch and saw that Diego was now an hour late. An awful, gut-wrenching feeling told Spike that Diego had stood him up. He felt seething anger course through his mind. He felt helpless that his grandmother would now be at the mercy of Jones, but also humiliated that he had told Diego about his past and slept with him, but that had meant nothing to the Doberman. With a heavy heart, Spike stood and began to make his way back towards the door. As he reached out to pull it open, he heard a powerful engine draw up behind him. Spike turned to see a blue Mustang pulling up outside the station. The window slid down and Diego's face appeared "Hey Yote! Need a ride?" He called as he grinned and slipped on his Ray-Bans. A huge smile of relief spread across Spike's muzzle and his tail wagged excitedly. He hurried down to the car, slung his suitcase onto the backseat and climbed in. As soon as he shut the door, Diego sped off in a squeal of tire smoke "Woo, we're off!" he exclaimed "Heh, we're just like Thelma and Louise" Spike joked "Uh, dude, that didn't end well" Diego replied "Yeah I guess, but this feels so cool!" Spike said, grinning from ear to ear. Inside, his mind was racing. He felt happy that Diego was taking him on the journey, but he also knew that he had to report back to Jones. Although he wanted to keep his grandmother safe, he now felt a creeping sense of guilt. Although Spike had always dreamed about Diego's looks, he was starting to feel genuine affection for the Doberman. He couldn't recall a moment in his life that had felt as intimate as the previous night. It made him sad that he would indirectly end up sending Diego to jail at the end of the journey. He sighed inwardly. This was not going to be an easy mission.
