#11 of Drac

A story about a young leona (cat anthro) named Dienza, or Drac to his friends.

Life is not easy. A high pressure low paying job, friends in bad places and a home less than it should be.

The setting is owned by TicklefishMcGee

The characters used are mine.

'How was it?' Dienza asked. He wrapped his arm around Spiika as the yellow leona leaned her face against his shoulder. 'Humiliating...' She replied. 'They ask so much, I don't even know how much of it is relevant...' 'Aww, do you wanna go home?' He asked. 'Yes.' She muttered. 'Why did all the micen in your place have to end up being kids?' Dienza grinned and hugged her tight for a moment before shuffling her beside him and beginning the walk home. 'Here's an idea...' He said. 'Let's break into the house next door and just... go smorgasbord on all their tiny delicious asses huh?' He winced as her claws dug into his skin excitedly, pushing him to walk faster.

The pair got home and found Nereen asleep on the couch with a curled up micen sleeping on her belly. The little one she'd adopted by the look of it. Dienza rolled his eyes but Spiika couldn't help snapping a picture with her phone. They sneaked through to his room and dropped off their shoes and effects before heading quietly out the back door. Dienza helped Spiika to climb the back wooden fence to the empty house next door and then awkwardly managed to hoist himself over. 'Who used to live here?' Spiika asked as they approached the house's back door. 'I don't know, some crazy old guy.' Dienza answered. 'He got taken by, uh, head doctors about two years ago. The micen in here could be pretty numerous by now.' 'What are they eating though?' The woman wondered. 'I watched a documentary once.' Dienza explained as he tested the handle and nodded. 'Micen are about as resourceful as soldiers used to be during the war. Everything about their drives, and what little culture they have is geared towards survival. If there's a way to live in a house without leonas they'll figure it out.' With a careful twist he broke the handle off its casing and pushed it through the other side. With a bit more shaking the mechanism inside fell loose and he was able to push open the door. 'Where did you learn to do that?' Spiika asked. 'I didn't. He shrugged with an awkward grin. 'I was expecting to have to kick it down. It must have been more dilapidated than I thought.' He stepped inside and took a look around, his eyes widening in awe at the sight. 'Do you see any...? Oh my.' Spiika was left speechless as she stepped in beside him. Micen were everywhere. Dozens. Maybe even hundreds. Walking around in the open on the floor like they owned the place. Shacks, buildings, even what could be considered skyscrapers by their standards. The kitchen had been partially torn apart and rebuilt to better suit their needs. Floorboards were missing, exposing a patch of dirt that had been turned into a farm. Various plants edible to micen were being grown by the sunlight in the window, the garden being tended by micen using forks and spoons. The water pipes had been harnessed to keep the place completely self- sustaining. Clearly someone was not paying attention to the water rates. 'Leonas!' One of the micen, a well built fellow carrying a blade of some sort bellowed out. 'To arms now!' 'Oh, I think we upset them.' Dienza grinned. 'What's say we play fair then, huh?' 'Sounds good to me.' Spiika nodded, lowering herself to the all fours as nearly two dozen micen appeared bearing various improvised weapons. She noted with a slight hint of extra caution that one of the runts was bearing a pair of fish hooks. 'Do these guys look...?' 'Pretty well equipped for what looks like a farmer's colony.' Dienza nodded, stalking on one of the flanks towards his left. 'Maybe Nate's rattis has friends that visit here too.' His claws extended and he lowered himself a little more. The perfect position to pounce and snare foolish prey...

Nate awoke on Nereen's soft belly, moaning happily and comfortably as he rolled onto his back and blinked open his eyes. He giggled as the surface he laid upon steadily rose before falling again with the leona's slow breathing. He didn't know how old she was, but she reminded her of the elders back home, so quick to get tired and even quicker to get frustrated with the antics of juveniles. She had agreed to play with him for a while, a game she called cat and mouse for reasons even he understood immediately. But it had only lasted an hour and then she had all but collapsed from exhaustion after chasing him around the house from room to room. Then she'd pretended to eat him and dropped him back to the floor before lying down on the couch. He'd climbed up on top of her and she'd left him on her belly, so he'd stayed there. But now he was awake, full of energy, and in moments had succumbed to boredom. His hands drummed against her skin and after a few further moments he rolled over and began to crawl upwards on her body. Her shirt was loose fitting and had rolled halfway up her abdomen, providing a minor obstacle as he climbed between her breasts. He felt her skin vibrating as he crawled onto the cusp of her neck between her collarbones. His mouth curled into an excited grin as he pressed his ear to her throat and listened to the air rush back and forth with each breath she took. 'Mmmfff.' She mumbled softly and rolled onto her side. Nate squeaked in surprise and fell from his perch to land on the cushion beside her. She shook his head dazed before feeling a wave of hot air hit him from behind. He turned around and saw that her head had come to rest just in front of him. Her lips were slightly agape and her slow humid breaths were directed straight at him. 'Ooooh.' He was mesmerised by the sight, sound and feel of the situation and before he knew it he had crawled closer and was pressing his head and shoulders against her lips. Maybe he could just quickly...?

'On your left!' Spiika called. Dienza pivoted on the spot and bared down on a pair of micen rushing forward with needles in hand. They froze as he locked eyes with them and slowly slurped the wriggling tail between his lips all the way inside before sending the unfortunate owner to his belly. 'Get out of here!' One of them cried, but the intense blue eyed stare kept him frozen in place. He didn't see Spiika circle around behind him and snare him from above. Her hands grasped him as well and tore the weapon from his grip before she slurped him into her mouth like a squirming noodle. Dienza let out a loud burp and his eyes widened in surprise. 'Wow, that was louder than I expected, sorry.' 'Oh shut up.' Spiika giggled, tapping her chest and letting out a burp of her own almost as loud. She stood and headed towards the back door of the house again, Dienza following as the amusing micen militia began to regroup. Each of the leonas had downed six, making a game of only taking the ones that tried to fight. It had started with only the militia, but the rules had allowed for a few more once a few enraged widows had tried to take up their mates' weapons. 'Right.' Dienza grinned, kicking one of the micen back into the centre of the room before following Spiika out the door and pulling it closed. 'Oh and if Ma asks... We'll just say we got lunch at that crapshack near the music shop.' 'Alright.' Spiika replied. 'You know, I was worried about today. But it actually turned out alright. It was a good idea you had to come here.' 'Yes, but again, you know what Ma would say.' Dienza pulled her into a hug. 'If we're lucky she'll still be asleep.' They shared a quick kiss before climbing the fence, a task made much more difficult with stomachs full of squirming prey.

Nereen awoke slowly and yawned. She rolled onto her back and suddenly felt a slight weight on her chin and a sweet flavour on her tongue. She pushed her tongue out and suddenly Nate's grinning face popped over the tip of her nose and into her vision. 'That was awesome!' He exclaimed. 'Oh get off!' She growled. 'I told you to behave, what are you doing in there?' Her hand wrapped around him and pulled him away from her lips. At that moment she heard the back door of the house open and the laughter of both Dienza and Spiika as they entered. 'How was... everything?' Nereen called out, heading towards the kitchen to see the pair slouching into the table chairs. 'It transpired as I would have expected.' Spiika sighed. 'I'm gonna have to go in there every week... and focus on things that keep me happy in the interim to try and keep off the...' 'I will do everything I can to help you.' Dienza said. 'So um...' Spiika interjected, noticing the squirming juvenile micen nibbling on Nereen's thumb. 'Is the little guy still proving fun for you?' 'Oh...' Nereen lifted him up. 'He's wearing me out. I keep trying to settle him down and he keeps pestering me to play.' She opened her palm and Nate sat in place and grinned proudly, as though the leona woman had just been praising him. 'Well you know what the easy solution is.' Dienza shrugged. Spiika tried not to laugh, the guy was sounding like a broken record at this point. Nereen just rolled her eyes as well and set Nate down on the counter top before heading back up the hallway. Spiika stood and walked over to the counter and leaned herself down beside the micen. 'So little guy, what do you like to do for fun?' 'Can I play with you?' Nate asked. 'You be the cat and I be the mouse!' 'I'd love to.' Spiika laughed. 'But maybe later. I have a whole belly full of micen that I need to rest off first.' 'C-can I see?' Nate asked. He moved towards her and looked up at her pleadingly. 'No, you wouldn't fit. I'm too full.' Spiika grinned. 'But you can listen.' She lifted him from the counter and pressed him to the skin of her abdomen just beneath her breast. His giggled in delight before closing his eyes and nuzzling into her fur.

The remainder of the afternoon went peacefully. After a few hours of relaxation Spiika took up the mantle of keeping Nate amused, as well as having plenty of fun herself. Unlike Nereen, Spiika's youth gave her the advantage and when the evening rolled around Nate was exhausted and sleeping on the carpet just in front of the TV cabinet. Nereen cooked a baked dinner with lamb and vegetables and the three of them ate in the living room with the TV on. Spiika picked a documentary on wild micen colonies and how resourceful the creatures were in a setting without leonas. Two of the documented colonies had even discovered the recording equipment and destroyed it. 'Clever little bastards.' Dienza grinned, flicking his ear as Nate crawled across the back of the couch behind him. Nereen, sitting beside him leaned her head back and allowed the boy to climb onto her muzzle. From there he perched on her head until she had finished eating, after which she set him down on her lap to pick scraps from the edge of the plate like he was used to by now. The night wore on peacefully, an old drama movie following the documentary and before long Nereen took Nate into her room and set him to sleep before returning. Dienza was in the kitchen by then mixing up some cups of cocoa. Before he could finish, the doorbell rang and all three of them raised an ear in confusion. There was no reason to receive a visitor at this time of night... Dienza was the one to answer the door, with Spiika and Nereen watching from the living room. The leona was greeted by two more leonas dressed in uniforms of the police department. 'Dienza Aerb?' One of them asked, a young man probably close to Dienza's own age. 'Yes?' Dienza replied tentatively. 'Did I... do something wrong, officer?' 'No, kid. You're fine.' The other shook his head, an older more wizened looking leona with a stern gaze. 'We just need to ask you about someone named Aryan McEyans. Did you know him?' 'Uhh... Yes.' Dienza replied, taken aback and now staring intently into the old man's eyes. 'We were old friends during high school. Did he do something wrong?' 'We don't know, but it's possible.' The younger cop spoke again. 'We were wondering if you had answers on that.' 'Why...?' Dienza asked. The younger cop blinked and exhaled slowly, before his partner spoke. 'Because son...' The elder cop said sadly. 'He was found murdered just over an hour ago.'
