#25 of The Amazing Race 2

On the last leg of the Amazing Race, teams traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana. They got to, literally, make their mark all over town. They had to use their wits to find the checkpoint. In the end, the twins took first and their former allies Diesel & DeeDee took last. However, it was all non-elimination. Well, it's time for those to end. From here on out, it's a non-stop race to the finish line. Those who slow down, will be left behind. Who will stay? And who will blast away? Time to find out on part one of the grand finale of the craziest reality show on SoFurry... the Amazing Race.

***

"Welcome back to New Orleans." Toner says. "Yesterday's winners, Kit & Kitty, are the first ones to grab the next clue." Kitty steps up to the clue box and presses the button.

"Route Info: get to Memphis, fast." She reads. Memphis is known for the blues, jazz, and various foods. Teams will travel by Transit bus to the city where they'll find their next clue.

"C'mon!" Kit says as they run out of the rec center. Once the other three teams get the clue, they run on foot for the bus stop. With all four teams on the same bus, the eight hour drive to Memphis proceeds.

***

"Can we win this show?" Kitty asks. "Absolutely. I think we're doing pretty good, aren't we sis?"

"I guess." Kit says. "But yesterday was our first win in four weeks. If we want to win this race, we're gonna have to go even faster than ever before."

"Relax, with Jasper & Mitch by our side, no way can we lose!"

"Kitty! What did I say about seeming too confident?"

"Don't." Kitty pins her ears down and looks out the window. Meanwhile, at the front of the bus, Rachel leans against her elbow fast asleep; but Tammy stays wide awake, unable to catch any Z's.

"If the other teams think they're going to win, they're kidding themselves." Tammy says to herself. "Everyone knew I was gonna make it to the finale, especially after my... 'helpful' ways to get there. I may be a saboteur, but no one is going to stop me. How many times have me and Rachel came in first? Seven? It's more than any of these weirdos combined! It's laughable! Who the hell is gonna stop me? The party bros?" She evilly snickers. "The twins?" She laughs a little louder. "The Policefurs?" She tries to keep her laughing under control, but can't help it; she bursts out laughing like an evil villain.

"Man, she gets crazier by the minute." DeeDee whispers into Diesel's ear. "Why hasn't she been knocked out of the race yet?"

"I don't know." Diesel says. "All I know is that we had another close call. What the hell happened that made us slip up so much? We were doing fine at first until you had that argument with the twins."

"That's it!" DeeDee gets a light bulb in her head. "This leg of the race, we make things right with them so we can have their loyalty again."

"I don't know about that. They seemed pretty ticked off you betrayed them."

"No. No! Kitty said she forgave me. I just need to get to Kit somehow." Meanwhile, Jasper & Mitch were in the seat across from the twins. They seem pretty excited, coming all this way to the final four.

"Dude! By the end of the day, we could be millionaires!" Jasper says, unable to get his leg from bouncing. "You know how awesome that would be?"

"Very." Mitch says. "What are you gonna die with your cut of the money?"

"Hmmm... I've always wanted to open my own surf shop in California. That would be pretty awesome."

"Do you even surf, dude?"

"Mitch, if there's one thing I know, is that you need to know how to surf to sell the gear."

"Woah. That's some legit logic, bro."

***

At approximately 3:27 pm, the bus parks in Memphis and the remaining Racers get out and get to the clue box. "Detour: Sounds or Souls." Jasper reads. For this Detour, teams can either choose Sounds, where they have to drive to Sun Studio and listen to a rock'n'roll song three times from beginning to end. Or they can choose Souls, where that have to travel to Stax Museum where they must listen to Soul music for 10 minutes. Once they get either task done, they'll get the next clue.

"Soul." Kit says.

"We're with you right there." Mitch says. Those two teams share a cab again and they drive to Stax Museum. Diesel & DeeDee choose Souls as well, but only to get away from the Olympians, who chose Sounds.

"I live for rock'n'roll." Tammy says as they drive there. "Not the best music out there, but really describes my personality."

"Really? I haven't noticed." Rachel says with heavy sarcasm.

"Save the sarcasm for later, we've got music to listen to and a race to win." After the short drive to Sun Studio, they're greeted by a brown coyote with white streaks in his hair. His name tag is easy to read: Ian.

"You here for the Detour?" Ian asks.

"Yes." Tammy says. "I understand that the challenge is to listen to a rock song three times?"

"That's correct." Ian says. He goes over to get his boom box as Rachel takes a seat on the couch. When she gets a tasty look from Tammy, she gets defensive.

"What? We could be here a while." Rachel says. Tammy can't help but admit that she's right. She takes a seat next to her as Ian comes back with his boom box.

"Have fun, ladies." Ian presses play and the music starts. It's quiet at first but the sounds of the electric guitar, bass, and drums follow suit. Rachel slightly covers her fragile ears, thinking it's gonna be a long ten minutes.

***

The twin/frat bro alliance make it to Stax Museum first. The Policefurs soon arrive. "So, what are we listening to?" Kit asks.

"I guessing that?" Kitty points to a radio on the ground with the Race logo on it. The six of them sit on the ground.

"Guys, I've never listened to soul music before." Jasper says.

"Neither have I, but how bad could it be?" Kit asks as she presses play. When the music starts, it feels a bit calming, like it's going to appeal to their souls. That explains the title of the music, Mitch thinks to himself.

"Is that Sam Cooke?" Jasper asks.

"Now that I think of it, it does sound like him." Kitty says. The Policefurs sit there, bored, starting to wonder why they picked this type of music to listen to. DeeDee looks over at Kit, thinking that since they're right there, not moving for a while, this is her chance.

"Hey, Kit?" DeeDee asks.

"What?" Kit coldly says.

"I just want you to know that my apology was sincere. I never wanted to work with Tammy, ever!"

"Yeah right," Kit scoffs, "you sharing a cab with them and helped them yesterday!"

"Ok! That was a mistake! Remember what they did to the gym floor yesterday? Tammy spray painted it so I'd slip and not make it to the checkpoint. You can't deny that, can you?" Kit takes a deep breath.

"No. I can't deny that."

"The longer I'm in this race, the less I've really cares about the money. All I want to do now is get rid of those Olympic bastards once and for all. I'm not asking for our alliance to relapse, what I'm asking is for your forgiveness. Do I have it?" DeeDee holds a paw out. Kit thinks about this a moment. What she did was cold and unforgettable. However, it's not unforgivable. Kit turns to her and shakes her paw.

"You do." She says. DeeDee's face lights up and her tail wags a little. As the song changes, Kitty immediately sits up.

"Hey! I know that tune! That's Louis Armstrong!"

"Woah! You know that song too?" Jasper asks.

"Yeah. 'I see skies of blue... and clouds of white...'"

"'... the bright blessed day... the dark sacred night. And I think to myself...'"

"'What a wonderful world!'" Jasper and Kitty sing at the same time. They hi5 and sit back down.

"Nerd love." Kit whispers into DeeDee's ear making them both laugh. After another minute, the song stops, and the tape altogether. "It's been ten minutes, c'mon!" Kit runs over to the clue box there and presses the button.

"What's it say?" Kitty asks.

"Roadblock: craft a raft and ride down the draft." For this Roadblock, those who didn't dive in the Bahamas must build a two person raft for them and their partner. Teams must drive down Interstate 55 until they reach the Mississippi River, where they will find the challenge. Once the raft is built, the must sail across the river and then run on foot to KWAM Radio Tower, where the checkpoint is. Last team there will no longer be able to listen to soul music again... without crying.

"Let's go!" Diesel says. The six of them get back in their respective cabs and drive off.

***

Tammy is still into the music as it nearly finished for the third time. "Is it almost over?" Rachel asks/yells. The song has one last guitar chord and then it stops.

"Done! Let's move it!" Tammy says. The two get up, collect the next clue form Ian and get back to their cab, driving to the river.

Meanwhile, the twins and frat bros make it to the Roadblock first. "Oh man, I'm not the strongest with my hands." Kit says. A huge pile of planks of wood have been set by the water, along with a few tools and some rope.

"We have to hurry." Mitch says. The two dive in and start grabbing boards, immediately brainstorming. The Policefurs soon arrive.

"Yes! A challenge that requires strength." DeeDee says, cracking her knuckles.

"You realize you were the one who dived in Nassau, right?" Diesel points out.

"Darn it!"

"Relax, I'll hurry up." He runs over to join the others and starts doing the task. Mitch's strategy was to to make a square out of the boards and use to others to keep them together. Kit's was to put a few planks together and tie them down right enough so they won't move. Diesel's idea was still trying to come to him.

The Olympians soon arrive. "Crap! We're in last!" Rachel says.

"Calm down, it's my turn to perform." Tammy says. As she walks over, her words don't make Rachel feel any better. Kit ties three boards together and three puts it in the river to test it. Even with a tight knot, they slip apart.

"This isn't gonna be easy, is it?" Kit asks. "Mitch, what do you think I should do?" Mitch looks over at Kit's raft, or broken one.

"You sound probably take another board and nail those three together. That way, they don't slip apart like that."

"Thanks for the advice." Kit says. She does as Mitch said, taking a fourth plank as setting it on top of the first three. Diesel does something similar to Mitch, but only uses one plank at the bottom in the middle so he could save time. Tammy, however, is still struggling to even start. Woodwork has never been her best area.

"Done!" Mitch says. He puts his raft in the river and it floats.

"Awesome!" Jasper says. The two boys got on their raft. "Hold on! Should we wait for the twins?" Kit heard that. She looks around and sees the Oasis still working on the task.

"You guys go on." Kit says.

"What??" Both frat boys say at the same time.

"I said you two need to go on. We'll catch up. If not, I hope you two do well."

"That's nice, but we can't leave you behind." Jasper says.

"If not, the Oasis might knock you two out! Go! Go to the checkpoint while you have a chance!" The boys exchange looks at each other.

"I really hope you make it." Mitch says before they start paddling their way across the river. Me too, Kit thinks.

"Fini!" Diesel says in his accent.

"About time." DeeDee says, rolling her eyes. The two get on their raft and they start crossing the river. Kit hammers the final nail and beckons her sister to get on.

"We might be able to make it!" Kitty says as they take off. Tammy groans in frustration.

"Fuck this task!" She yells. She grabs a plank and tells Rachel to grab on. When she does, they jump in and start kicking their way to the other side.

"Hey! You're getting water in my eyes!" Rachel says.

"Sorry! I'm just not ready to go home yet!" Tammy says. The Olympians start to catch up, at the same time, the frat bros make it to the other side and start to run for it. The Policefurs maintain second, with twins and Olympians shortly behind them.

Tammy & Rachel pass Kit & Kitty. On the way, Tammy reaches into the river, pulls out a huge fish and throws it at Kitty. She falls off the raft and into the river.

"Hey!!!" Kit shouts.

"Goodbye!" Tammy evilly says. DeeDee sees the thing unfold. When she does, her anger starts to boil her blood.

"Nobody! Messes! With my! Friends!" DeeDee yells. She yanks off a board of her rafts and smacks Tammy in the face with it. Instinctively, the Olympians kick harder, eventually passing the Policefurs.

"Kitty!" Kit shouts. Her sister comes back to the surface, coughing and gasping for air. "Oh my god! Are you ok?"

"Yeah." Kitty gets back on the raft with the help of her sister. "Now come on! Time to show those two Olympic brats a little Sister Power!"

"That's what I'm talking about!" Kit helps her in paddling the raft to the other side. By the time they make it, Diesel & DeeDee and Tammy & Rachel are already gone. "Run!"

Toner stands outside the KWAM Radio Tower, the rug on the ground. He paces back and forth, looking at his watch. Beside him are three awaiting cabs. He looks up and sees one team approaching fast, faster than he thought. "Jasper & Mitch, congrats, you're the first to arrive at the checkpoint." Toner says.

"Awwww, dude! This is awesome!" Jasper says.

"I know!" Mitch says, hugging his best friend.

"Boys, here's your next clue." Toner hands it to them. Jasper reads it out loud.

"Route Info: get on a flight to Ottawa, Canada." The boys quickly hop into a cab and drive off.

Tammy & Rachel run with Diesel & DeeDee on their tails. Kit & Kitty quickly catch up, running as fast as they can. All of their heartbeats go faster and harder with each step closer to the tower. Toner comes into view and the six of them panic, eager to beat the other two teams.

The closer and closer they get, the more energy they put into their running. The rug is all they can focus their attention on, knowing that only four of them will continue after they step on it.

"Tammy & Rachel come in second." Toner says as they pass him. "Policefurs, your third."

"Awesome." DeeDee says. "Now, onto more important things..." She walks over to Tammy and gets a fistful of her shirt. "You. Little. Bitch. If you think that you're gonna win this money by being the cheating little shit you are, then you're mistaken. You are going home, if it's the last. Thing. I. Do."

"Ahem." Toner clears his throat. "As much as I'd love to see a cat fight, I believe these are for you two." He hands them the next clue.

"Ottawa. C'mon!" Tammy shots. The Olympians and Policefurs race to the airport where Jasper & Mitch are waiting. Toner walks back over to the rug, where one more team awaits.

"Kit & Kitty, I'm sorry; but you're officially cut from the competition." Toner announces.

"Aww, man! This bites." Kit says. Kitty, on the other hand, wraps her arms around her sister and hugs tight.

"Thanks for this, sis." She says. Kit hugs her back. When they let go of each other, they walk away.

"This has been the most fun experience of my entire life." Kit says. "Sure, we had a few tough breaks, but overall, I had fun."

"Me too." Kitty says. "I really enjoyed seeing Paris, London, and even Sydney. I'm not gonna miss the Philippines, though. What about you?"

"I don't really care about traveling that much anymore. But how about we go home and..."

"Wait! We get to go to the finale too! To watch."

"Oh you're right! In that case, let's do that." As the twins head home, Jasper & Mitch, Diesel & DeeDee, and Tammy & Rachel get on Toner's private plane and take the two and a half hour flight to Ottawa. Who will finally walk home a winner and claim the million dollar cash prize? Stick around for the season finale of... the Amazing Race.
