#3 of Joey's New School

Joey woke the next day with a yawn. He stretched and looked over at the clock to find out it was three minutes passed seven. He figured Nick would be calling him later maybe around noon or so. He jumped in the shower and scrubbed up; he wanted to be clean for whatever Nick had planned for the afternoon.

After throwing on some clothes he went downstairs to see what his mom was up to since it was her day off. He could smell something delicious coming from the kitchen.

"Morning honey, sleep well?", his mom asked, She was cooking some bacon in her house robe. Joey always loved his mom's cooking, though she didn't seem to do enough of it. She was always working or too tired from work to cook, but when she did it was well worth the wait.

Joey had learned from the age of six, that if he was hungry he would need to cook for himself. Besides his mom practically killed herself at work to make sure they had a decent life. Joey by no means was going to let something like that go without doing his all to help her out. That's why Joey usually had dinner ready on the table for his mom when she came home. He figured anything he could do for her would be a help.

"Yea, hey mom, can I talk to you for a second? It's kind of important" Joey stated. He was thinking of coming out to his mom. He thought that she deserved more than that from him, especially now that he had Nick. He didn't think it would be right to try to hide Nick from his mother. He just hoped that she would be ok with it, because it would probably crush him if it wasn't.

"Sure, what's on your mind?" his mom replied. She sat a lid on the bacon and turned it down a bit so that it wouldn't burn while they talked. His mom took a seat at the table and looked at him patiently; waiting for him to tell her what was troubling him.

"Mom, umm well I thought you should know something I have been keeping from you for a while" Joey hesitated.

"Your gay right?" his mom stated.

Joey was in shock, his mom knew? He thought he had been careful to always try to act straight as best as he thought it. Was he so easily read? It seemed that not only Nick but his mother could also read him like a book. Now he was just wondering if she was going to take this in the positive or negative way.

His mom gave him a thoughtful stare, and Joey interpreted it as the negative. He literally felt his heart break as he thought about his mom throwing him out. Then again, he thought maybe she would just be the kind to try to convert him straight. At least, that wouldn't be as bad as being hated for who he was.

"Joey, why would that matter to me? You are my son, no matter who you are or what you want to be I will be by your side because I love you. Now, why did you choose now to come out to me? I've highly suspected for the past few years." she replied.

"Umm well, mom I have a boyfriend", Joey replied anxiously.

"That is great honey! I thought you would never meet someone, you always looked so lonely." his mom squealed. Joey was so happy that his mom didn't mind that he was gay, and he was ecstatic that she was happy for him for finding someone. He couldn't wait to introduce her to Nick. He just hoped that she would approve of him and not think that he wasn't the right type for Joey.

"Well, when can I meet him?" she questioned.

"He is coming over to pick me up later so we can go out. I was hoping I could introduce him to you then." Joey stated.

"That is fine honey, I can not wait" she smiled.

Joey ran up and hugged his mom. He was so excited, not only was she ok with him being gay but she was willing to meet his boyfriend. First they ate breakfast; his mom had almost burned it. Their talk had taken longer than either of them had thought. Joey then ran up stairs to change into some of his nicer clothes, a blue and white striped polo and a pair of light-blue jeans.

Joey rushed to the door when he heard the doorbell ring. He immediately opened the door and grabbed Nick's hand to drag him inside. Once they were both in and the door was shut he guided Nick over to the couch to sit down.

"Um, I want you to meet my mom, if that's ok?"

"Sure, I would love to meet your mom, I will eventually need her permission to take you out" stated Nick.

"Why is that?"

"My family is very traditional and without a parents consent, I can't take you out on any dates" replied Nick.

Suddenly Nick was pulled up and hugged by someone unknown. When he looked he saw it was a human woman in her thirties, who he guessed to be Joey's mom. He wasn't surprised to see a lot of the same looks in his mom as he saw in Joey, he must really take after her.

"Hello there, I'm Joey's mom, Carol. It is very nice to meet you and I am so glad that Joey found someone who he could hang out with." Carol seemed to exude a warmth that was very inviting, not quite as strong as Joey's but it was still there nonetheless.

"So you don't mind me taking out your son?"

"Not at all, I'm just glad you two make a cute couple." She then turned to Joey and asked him to get them a couple of pops out of the fridge. Immediately, Nick felt a strong grip pull him toward Carol and he looked down to see her hand wrapped around the front of his shirt.

"I'm only going to say this once. You had better not hurt Joey, he is all I have and I will make you pay if you break his heart. He is not very strong and he seems very much attached to you, so you had better not be leading him along."

Even though Nick had a good six inches on the older woman he felt that her threat had real merit. She seemed like she would do anything for her son and he did not want to be on her bad side if it came between her and her son.

"Of course, ma'am, I like Joey a lot and I wouldn't do anything to hurt him" Nick assured her.

"That's exactly what I wanted to hear." Carol was back to her sweet self as she patted Nick on the cheek just in time for Joey to walk in.

Joey walked in seeing his boyfriend and mom getting along so nicely, it sent warm sensations through his chest. He was so happy that there were no problems between the two most important people in his life. He just couldn't bear the thought if he would have to choose between them.

After another hour of chit chat, Carol shooed the boys out of that house saying it was too nice outside not to go do something. They got into Nick's car and started to drive off. Joey was curious as to where they were going. But Nick had refused to tell him using the excuse of it being a secret. After a half hour of driving they pulled up to a small lake. There were many people out swimming; it looked like a pleasant place to spend a Saturday afternoon. Joey was totally surprised but then realized he didn't have anything to swim in, his smile slowly turning to a frown as he turned to Nick.

"I didn't bring any trunks" Joey sadly stated. He waited about two seconds before Nick reached in the back of the car and pulled out a pair of green swimming shorts that looked about the right size. Joey's face lit up like a Christmas tree as he grabbed the shorts and saw that they were only one size too big but had draw strings so that it didn't matter. He reached up and hugged Nick tightly while thanking him for getting him the trunks.

Joey was so excited! He ran to the changing room and got into his trunks before running down and jumping in the water. It was freezing, his teeth started to chatter until he felt a warmth surround him. He looked over his shoulder to see Nick's arms wrapped around him. He blushed, and quickly looked around to see if anyone was watching. It seemed like no one was paying attention or that they just didn't care.

"Nick, won't we get kicked out if we don't watch it?"

"Why would they do that Hun?"

"Well, two guys getting a little closer than usual is kind of frowned upon, isn't it?"

"Maybe in human society, but we don't really care. You love who you love and it doesn't matter if they are of they same sex. Yes some people frown upon it but the majority of furs just don't really care"

Joey couldn't believe what he was hearing. He had always thought that if he ever had a relationship that he would have to hide it in public for fear of bigots taking their anger out on him or the one he loved. He felt his heart soar when he heard that he wouldn't have to hide his love of Nick. He was so overjoyed that he turned his neck around and planted a kiss on Nick's wet nose.

Nick was pleasantly surprised and suddenly got a mischievous grin on his dopey maw. He squeezed his arms more strongly around Joey's waste and suddenly pulled him back and under the water with him.

Joey sputtered as he was not expecting to be dunked. When they came up he gasped for air and wiped the water out of his face. He turned to see Nick laughing at him.

"You should have seen the look on your face it was priceless" he giggled.

This brought on an intense water battle, both males splashing each other relentlessly and even dunking one another when they got the chance. Nick being bigger and stronger usually getting the upper hand but Joey did get in a few dunks.

They crawled up onto the grass and lay in the sun. Both of them were breathing heavily from the water fight. The sun felt really good on their bodies, slowly drying them off while they got a cool breeze that would slowly waft over them keeping them comfortable. Joey couldn't believe how much fun he had, he glanced over at his boyfriend and suddenly broke out into a grin.

"What's so funny Joey?"

"Nothing, I'm just grateful that I have such an awesome boyfriend."

Nick started to blush a little, something he didn't do very often. Joey liked the look of Nick blushing, you couldn't see all of it due to his fur but his face looked really cute while he was. They lay out for about an hour snuggling close just relaxing and enjoying each other's presence.

Joey woke, realizing that they had fallen asleep snuggling. He looked at the setting sun and figured that they should probably get going but he felt so warm next to Nick. He couldn't believe that he had someone like Nick. Sometimes he felt that he didn't deserve it, or that Nick deserved someone better.

Suddenly a shadow fell over the couple. Joey immediately got chills, and looked up just in time to get a furry fist in the face. Everything went dark after that.
