Chapter 109: Lapse

When Roger woke up before school, his head had been throbbing. He rubbed it and went downstairs groggily, seeking pain medication to put it at ease. When he found it, he took it.

He could swear he saw an odd shape in his eyes before it vanished. Probably just the morning playing tricks on him, he thought. Either way, it was time for him to head to school.

He gathered up his necessary belongings and piled them into a bag. He then grabbed some clean clothes and turned the shower water on, as was his morning ritual.

Once clean, he made sure that his mouth was, as well. All things done, all things in order, and then he moved onto his travels. He had time to spare, but figured that if he were in early, he could rest his head on his desk until class started up. It would be one of those days, he thought.

Hunter had practice after class, so he wanted to sit in the bleachers to watch again. The unfortunate part was that he would also have practice throughout the rest of the week, so they did not have much time to spend after school together. It was fine, since they had the weekend, he thought. Thinking back at the past weekend, it was more than fine.

He saw the wolf during lunch and relayed the plans for Saturday. The wolf shrugged and accepted them, thinking that it was good for Roger to meet his friend. He made no comment that the lion was older. Hunter just did not seem to care about it, or even take it into consideration. Perhaps he had not read the same stories that Roger had.

At the end of lunch, they embraced and kissed, but in private where they were sure no one was to see them. Roger did not want to let him go, but he had to for the time being.

The bleachers were a little fuller when he got there. More and more girls were starting to come by to watch the football players. Some of them gossiped and questioned as to why Roger was sitting there, but the rumors were quelled rapidly when they figured out that he was tutoring Hunter. He could hear some of them plotting to be his friend, though, so that they could get closer to the wolf.

He saw a few male students sitting in the bleachers, as well. They were either watching the football players or the cheerleaders, or even the other audience members. Some of them had to have pure intentions, he thought. Perhaps they just were interested in the sport. Maybe a brother, or cousin, or friend.

So many eyes were on Hunter that Roger felt himself get a little angry. He calmed himself down, though, and sat patiently, slowly grinding his teeth.

The rest of the week followed in a similar fashion. They would go to school, meet during lunch, meet after practice, and do homework. The rest of the time was reserved for holding each other as close as possible and general expressions of affection.

Roger, however, was too sore for anything special, but he still enjoyed himself. Every night was a constant reminder of how much he loved placing his head against the wolf's chest, running his paws through his fur, and occasionally getting his ear nipped gently by the larger male. Everything they did made him feel alive, and it felt as if his tail would cause him to fly away.

He still felt the anger rise up a little when he saw more and more attendants at the bleachers. Soon, his quiet spot was no longer quiet, and it was no longer his spot. He moved to a patch of grass where he could sit cross-legged and watch.

Luckily, the headaches seemed to have plateaued. They were not actually getting any better, but they were not getting worse, and that was what Roger was thankful for. He knew he should have gone to see the nurse, at least, or preferably the doctor, but he did not want to waste whatever free time he had not seeing his favorite wolf.

It bothered Hunter a little, who had seen him suffer throughout the week. He urged the fox to seek medical attention, but to no avail. Roger was a very stubborn fox.

He did not see much of his parents that week, but that was not necessarily a new occurrence. He figured they were just busy. They respected their distance, though sometimes he wished that they would be back so that they could influence him to take him to the doctor.

The middle of the week came around and Roger could not remember the previous day. Either everything was beginning to blend together or he was really not feeling well. He shrugged it off for now and continued pressing on. It was just a small lapse in memory, probably because of how tired he had been feeling lately. Perhaps it was just a fever. That was it. A fever.

Hunter's concern seemed to grow with each passing day. Maybe he knew something was wrong, or maybe something in Roger's face or actions or tone was giving off the message that he felt pretty ill. Even Mr. Levy had asked him several times during a morning if he needed to see a nurse.

Maybe he really did need to. It would pass, though. The painkillers really did help, if not to completely get rid of the pain, at least to dull and stabilize it. He was thankful for whatever company happened to make them.

The end of the week had come and he did not really feel any better. The duo had not managed to create another situation for a sleepover, since he could not think of any valid reason why the wolf should keep doing so, other than his own, personal reasons. He did not think that the wolf's parents would really enjoy those reasons.

Maybe in a couple weeks, he could wait it out. Either way, he hoped he would be prepared the next time he wanted to try to do lewd things with Hunter. The last time had left him very sore.

The designated time was approaching. Roger had Hunter over at his house once more and had been tugging at his pants, attempting to initiate an intimate moment, but Hunter said it was best not to. He had been watching the fox reel in so much pain over the past week, he did not think it would be healthy. Part of him thought it was his fault.

Despite the fox's whines and expressions of affection, the wolf was adamant.

It was probably best.
