#1 of Battleship Battle

A story about a battleship and crew doing what they do best.

"Captains' log, entry six, date 13/24/1089. This hunt has been too little avail. The missing feline ships are still gone. I question why we canines even came to their aid. Relations between Wolferia and Camerix have not been the..."

"Captain three enemy ships spotted on sensors. They just fired missiles at us sir." A she-wolf, sensors officer Coble yelped.

"Red alert, all hands to battle stations this is not a drill repeat this is not a drill," Captain Thron announced over the battleship Wolfs Fury's intercom. He combed his clawed padded hands though his silver fur. His keen wolf eyes spotted the missiles over the horizon. Red lights flashed and a siren went off. The Wolferian crew rushed to battle stations.

"Second wave of missiles inbound Captain." A wolf, Weapons Commander Heath said.

"Evasive maneuvers, hard to starboard, lock all AA guns and fire on those missiles." The Captain ordered. The massive battleship Wolfs Fury turned hard starboard trying to avoid the incoming missiles. The AA guns on the superstructure of the ship and on deck fired at the missiles to destroy them before they hit. The sky was lit with hot streaks of metal.

"Captain." yelled a young fox, Lieutenant Wilcox, "Missile impact in five seconds; three of the five missiles fired are confirmed destroyed. We can't hit the last ones one in time!"

"All hands brace for impact!" The captain said. At that moment the missile struck the port side stern of the ship. The Wolfs Fury groaned and shook as metal was burned, melted and engulfed in flames. The final missile streaked past the ships bridge and landed in the ocean with an explosion of water. The bridge officers were thrown to the floor from the impact. Thron picked himself up talk to a transmitter,

"Damage control what's the situation down there." Thron ordered.

The gruff concerned voice of a bear was heard. Chief engineer Weise responded, "Captain the engines are hit. We have half power and fires in the engine room. We're crippled."

Thron shot back, "We need engine power, Weise. No buts about it. The fire control teams are on their way to douse the flames."

"Ay Captain. I'll do what I can with the engines. The best I can give you now is twelve knots." A silence then fell on the bridge of the Wolfs Fury.

Commander Heath was the first to break the silence and said, "Captain we must retreat to the nearest port in repair the damage done to the ship."

"No" the captain replied. "This ship is the only Wolferia navy ship in this sector of ocean. It's confirmed that the enemy ships we intercepted are on route to the capital city of the felines. We must not flee. We must stop them."

First officer Holtzer came to attention. A tall wolf of blue and white fur with blue colored eyes. He calmly stated, "Captain I must remind you. We have orders to withdraw if the enemy is spotted, not to engage them. We must leave and repair sir. We cannot fight there superior numbers. The enemy out ranges us as well."

"But we outgun them Mr. Holtzer. This is the battleship Wolfs Fury. Pride of the Wolferia navy." Thron replied.

"What have the cats ever done for us?" Holtzer asked, "There lions mock our power, their panthers slander our peoples name, the tigers openly challenge out peoples power. These stolen ships are a result of their poor rule."

Thron growled, "That was before we lost the support carrier to finish the mission! We cannot sit back and let thousands of innocent lives be lost. The canines and felines of Anthrexion had an alliance."

Holtzer countered, "But, captain, orders are orders. This alliance you speak of is weak and on the verge of collapse. That is a fact everyone on this ship knows. War is coming."

"This is a chance to avert the war you speak of." Thron said.

Thron went silent. He was faced with a difficult decision. Stay and fight the enemy, disobey orders, and risk court martial for disobeying orders, or obey orders and withdraw. Risk the many thousands of the people in the feline capital city. As well risk the lives of his crew. He growled to himself in thought.

"You orders captain?" The weapons officer asked.
