#9 of Old stuff/To fix/etc.

At the urging of Gold Lightning, I made the Ridixin short story into a series that I hope I can keep going for a while. So thank Gold Lightning if you like this story. Chao!

means the point of view is changing.

(Also, wolves usually speak their own language, so don't think the humans usually understand them.)

I wake up from my slumber. Stretching, I realize that today is the big day. I have grown from puppyhood to wolfhood, and I am old enough to go and establish my own pack if I want to. I have the option to stay with the pack, and establish a family, but I chose to establish a new pack, and I am old enough to do that now. As I walk outside, I look around at the valley, taking in the sunrise, the smells and sights. It makes me a little sad to leave my birthpack, but I'm excited to find a mate, and go establish my own pack, where I will be the alpha, instead of a subordinate. I go to what will be my last hunt with my old friends.

As we chase caribou, I look around once more, and then, trying to not think about leaving, I convert all my energy into catching that caribou. When me and my friends surround one, we pounce on it, killing it. As I eat, Shallah, my best friend, says, "Hey Blue!" "How many times do I have to tell you not to call me that! My name is Ridixin!" I growl with a snarl. When I was born, I was born with bright blue fur with white markings, which no one in my pack had ever heard of, but after the shock wore off, it was pushed to the back of everyone's minds. Everyone says I make up for my lack of camouflage with my increased speed and strength.

"Woah, sorry." she says. "No, it's my fault, I'm kind of edge, anyways. You know, leaving and establishing a pack and all." "You know, you don't have to leave, you can always stay." she says, hoping I would change my mind about leaving. I considered it for a second, but reply, "I've already made up my mind." "Okay. But hang out with us for a bit before you leave." I look over, seeing my great friend, Deitrick, with his head cocked to the side, which he always does when he's pleading me to do something. I say, "How could I say no?" They both smile, and then we start chasing eachother around the field and pouncing on one another.

We're all in a wolf pile when I realize that the rest of the pack had already headed back to the caves. I wiggle out from the bottom, and I say that we should go back, so we head back. When I get back to the pack, we start the ritual of a member leaving the pack. I rub noses with all seven other members of the pack. Yolanda, the alpha female who I never really knew, Humphrey, the alpha male who helped teach me how to hunt, Shallah, beta female and best friend, Deitrick, subordinate male and second best friend, Bekõn, beta male and personal least favorite, Valence, subordinate female and jack of all trades, master of none, and finally, Xavier, omega male, brunt of most aggression, but one of the nicest, truest wolves I've ever met. Each nuzzle makes me remember a memory of our time together, and I start to well up with emotions, but I don't want to seem like I'm having second thoughts, so I hold them in. We each say a couple things to each other, and then I'm seen off, with only my instincts and wits to protect me.

As I walk, I sniff, hoping to find a lone female wolf that I can mate with and establish a pack, then I walk into the forest. I smell dead squirrel in the distance, and I run to it, hoping to nourish myself for the long journey ahead. When I get there, it seems to be laying on a strange, dark gray surface that feels strange and rough underneath my paws. I gnaw on the squirrel, and then relieve myself, marking my territory. I hear something in the distance, and then, just as I turn around, I see bright lights, then nothing.
