#36 of Isolation

I went into this job thinking it was just another bug hunt, some Scientist dude who got careless with his vials and spawned nothing more than some blood thirsty flesh craving fruit fly or a huge snake. I thought it would be in, kill the monster, get paid and then go be my normal lazy self while I waited for the next job to come up. I assumed it was nothing to twist myself over. I was wrong. Dead. Wrong

I'm not exactly sure what happened after that as I began to drift into an out of conscious. I could hear the tank crushing rocks above us, though I couldn't hear of the electric motors so I assumed they were still disabled. A few of the rocks were removed from the top of the pile, which allowed light to come in, which I assumed was from the tank. I heard the synthetic security guards talking and then the sound of claws clanking on the concrete floor. After a few seconds of quiet, a revoltingly bad smell hit my nose. I was tempted to think that it was one of the mutated lab creatures, but at the same time, whatever it was seemed to be intelligent because of a third voice that chimed in with the synthetics.

'Are the three of them alive?", it asked.

"Unfortunately sir", one of the synthetics said, "though they are hurt very badly, if we left them here they would die in the hour."

"No", the voice said, "it is good that they live. Retrieve them ."

More rocks were pulled away from the pile and I was hauled out before passing out again. The next time I woke up, I was on my back, staring up at a metal ceiling with no light bulb. I had been stripped of my equipment and was once again wearing a white lab suit. There were a few wires and hoses connected to an IV going into my arm. I sat up, pulled the Iv out of my arm and looked around. The room, or cell, which ever you prefer, was ten feet long, ten feet wide and ten feet up. There was a heavy door and a thick window blocking my way out, but allowing the light to come in. out of the corner of my eye, I thought I saw a tail flash by the window. I slowly stood up and went to the window. In the small room outside the wall, was Martin. He was sitting in a chair in the middle of the room with his legs crossed and his hands held in a pose as if he were a villain from a James Bond movie.

"Glad to see your still with us", Martin sneered, his face was now completely covered by the same material that made up my visor. His skin had been replaced by pitch black Chitin, his fingers were now tipped by razor sharp claws, he had down pipes growing out of his back and a tail tipped by a razor. That was when his term, 'genetic superiority" clicked.

'What the fuck am I looking at?", I asked myself. It apparently also came out because Martin responded.

"I'm glad you asked", he said standing, rising to a full 8 feet, "you see, I'm 45 years old. When I was 23, I was a Colonial Marine on LV-226, the home world of the Primal Xenomorph that you K-Classes hate so much. My team was supposed to recover 5 survivors of an outbreak and then leave behind a...present, for the Xeno's, but the mission went south when they got the jump on us. My entire team, expect for me, was maimed, mauled or killed. I however, was on the receiving end of a Royal Facehugger."

I crossed my arms, "your full of crap, no one survives being seeded by a Facehugger."

Martin snickered, "hear me out boy. When I was picked up, they rushed me into surgery and managed to extract it. Watching it grow over the few months it took me to recover was when I realized just how....inferior, humans are to Xenomorphs."

I stayed in quiet shock as Martin continued, "For 20 years I've been trying to crack the code that would allow me to write a virus that could rid the universe of humanity and make everyone utterly perfect, and now I have."

"Okay", I sighed, "I'll bite, what the hell is it?"

Martin turned and looked at me with his featureless face, "I trust you are familiar with Red Star by now?"

I felt my heart drop.

"I recently learned that Red Star has two directives", Martin said, "the natural one, claim a host and use it to reproduce, and the inactive one, brake up a hosts cell structure just enough to allow another mutagen to take over. With all of the Red Code I obtained from the creature in the cells, I was able to extract and breed all the Second Directive Red Star I needed to lay the foundation for what I call, Agent 41."

I sighed, "what's agent 41?"

"Glad you asked", Martin said, "Agent 41 is my version of a Facehugger. In a Red Star weakened host, it uses the DNA of the host and the DNA of a Xenomorph drone to replace the hosts body on a cellular level, rendering the host the perfect combination of human and Xeno. However, humans still have a little problem I call, free will. Agent 41 deals with that as well."

I swallowed.

"In any human brain, chemical reactions fire off electrical signals that tell the various parts of the body what to do, how to feel, etcetera. Agent 41 is capable of stopping and removing the ability of it's host to act by his or herself, replacing it with the collective intelligence of a hive mind and removing the ability to think freely and learn new things, similar to the Primal. This Collective Intelligence is pre-determined, written into the DNA of Agent 41, at the head of this collective thinking, protect the Hive Master. Can you guess who that is?"

I growled, "you sick mother fucker! Your speaking of Genocide!"

"Genocide?", Martin laughed, "Genocide doesn't even come close to what I have in mind. Those missles you tried to stop? They weren't loaded with 240 and Red Star, they were loaded with Agent 41 and my modified flavor of Red Star. 8 heads per missile, one each for each planet in the system. Each head has 32 smaller canisters that will disperse in pairs once the head reaches orbit. Once the first victim is infected, it will spread so fast that there will be nothing anyone can do to stop it."

He leaned in and opened his mouth, hissing at me and showing both pairs of teeth. I hissed back.

"Nuclear weapons won't stop it", Martin laughed.

"Maybe not", I said clenching my hands into fists, "but I fuckin will."

"How are you planing to do that?", Martin sneered.

"Like this", I said.

I placed both hands on the glass and willed the icy liquid nitrogen to flow into them. My skin and Exo changed colors until they were pale blue and bright white. Frost began to creep unnaturally up the glass until I could hear a cracking sound. I heard Martin take a few steps back as I put all my power into a swing of my right arm, shattering the bullet proof barrier as if it weren't even there. I stepped out, the boots I was wearing crunching over the glass and the LN sizzling as it dripped from the pores in my hands. Martin took a fighting stance.

"This. Ends. HERE", I growled, taking a stance myself.

"I think you should be fighting the dog catcher", Martin hissed, "but if you want to fight me, YOU GOT IT!"

Martin lunged at me and tried to swing his arm into my neck. I ducked underneath it and countered with a swipe of my tail, aiming to cut through his ankles with the razor. Martin responded by jumping over me and doing a back flip, trying to use the weight in his tail to knock me to the ground. I raised my hand to try and catch it, finding that I had somehow in the process created a foot wide ice wall that absorbed the force of Martin's blow. While he was recovering from the attack, I balled my right hand into a fist and threw all of my weight into an upper cut, sending Martin flying across the small room. He recovered rather quickly and swung too fast for me to counter, landing a nasty five claw gash across my face. My Acidic blood instantly began flowing out of the gash, sizzling when it it hit the floor. When I recovered, I noticed Martin's claws looked like they had been eaten a little.

"The Acidic blood stings like a bitch doesn't it?", I asked as I used my augmented telekinetic ability to pick up the still frozen, shattered glass and throw it at him. Martin responded to the frozen projectiles by diving to his stomach, the shards doing a little more than taking a bit of Chitin off his down pipes. Martin flipped himself around and jumped back up, blocking an attempt I made to put my boot in his face. He threw me to the ground and then tried to pounce, but I managed to get my feet underneath him and kick him off. I picked myself up and formed an icy ball of liquid Nitrogen in my left hand, which I tossed at Martin. He held up his arm to block it, but the thin layer of ice encasing the fluid shattered on contact with the much harder Chitin, showering Martin in the subzero fluid. Martin let off a pain filled yelp and tried to remove the ice from his visor, which was the chance I needed. I raised both my fists and landed 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 blows to Martin's head, sending him reeling and gasping for breath.

Martin recovered surprisingly quickly, only receive my boot in his face, which knocked out a few of his fangs.

"The original is always better than a fucking knock off", I snarled, "your pathetic Martin. You'll never be as good as any biological Xenomorph, Primal or K-Class. You threatened my friends, destroyed an entire solar system and you killed my mother."

I reached down and grabbed his neck, lifting him clean off the ground. He grabbed at my wrist, trying to loosen my grip. The sounds of my Chitin cracking and skin tearing, followed by a deep buzzing sound filled the room.

"Hold still you little prick", I growled as I raised a fist full of hornets.

"Check mate", Martin said punching me dead in the face. The shock, blinding flash and burning pain forced me to let him go.

"You upgraded", Martin sneered as I regained my vision, finding his exoskeleton had turned Crimson while his skin was blaze red both his fists were on fire while other parts of his body were broken open, showing some unknown burning material inside of them, little wisps of flame were rising from his downpipes, "I've made upgrades of my own."

I snarled at him as I once again began dripping liquid nitrogen. Martin lunged at me again and I put up another ice shield, which he used a fireball to melt through. He reached out in mid flight with his flaming hand and I retaliated by swiping at him with both hands, landing an X swipe across his chest with exposed more of his burning under body. I stood there in horror as he turned to face me and I watched the wound close up.

"If that had been permanent", Martin laughed, "I would have been really pissed."

Martin came at me one more time, too fast for me to counter. He landed three or four blows across my face and then one to the side of my head, which left me seeing stars. I fell to my back and Martin put his foot on my chest.

"You failed", he sneered, "but I won't kill you. Not yet."

His boot crashing down on my face was the last thing I saw.
