#4 of City of Colors

Alright, I have been spending a bit working on around four different things this weekend, but fortunately, I wrote a lot of this entry already before I was on A Friend's Sorrow, as the scene with Oskari was already planned as such. I did however also do something on Gregory's part, since he is from a country that is a bit like Great Britain, I have also kept this and updated the previous sections of his in Shattered Normality.

Point of View: Oskari

** ** Ah, finally I was able wear this massive handcrafted armor. Certainly not easy to fit my overly wealth-representing body into it, but I managed to press myself in after a few hours of tailoring. Still hot in it, but hey, that's worth it. I looked just right for the medieval fair and a lot of people looked at me in awe. Or so I hoped, it is hard to hide your mass, if you are a bigger species.

Well, I was also looking around to talk with some people, and then I noticed a particularly odd sight, at least for a medieval fair. A badger dressed in completely casual clothing, sunken in a depressed mood on his chair. What a waste, this is a place to have fun with acting and youth-friendly roleplaying. "Good dawning to thee, friend. Wherefore art thou looking so depressed?"

"Just leaveth me high-lone, pompous fool," he replied in a tone that I have heard a lot in all my years as a barkeeper. He was not just looking depressed, but already in need of some drinks.

"Killeth thy s'rrow with me," I said as I held out my hand and gave him a wink. I was annoying him, but in my profession you can quickly make people feel better.

And he seemed to budge as he got up and glanced up to my face. "Alright, I may be from Angbrith, but Middle Melesian is not my strength." Well, certainly it requires a lot of concentration, but it was fun to me at least. "So, I am Gregory."

"And mine name is Oskari." And now I really was not sure, if I kept to the correct grammar, but I guess there was nobody to judge around me anyway. I grabbed Gregory and together we went to the stand with the traditional cooking, where we both got ourselves some bread and meat to make sandwiches for ourselves. Not historically accurate, but our stomachs certainly didn't care. "So, Gregory. What brings you here to this medieval fair in Volkoinmaa?"

"Need to get my head cleared up," he told me while slowly sounding a bit better. Must be the food, the aroma of that bread was just amazing. "Life has to go on, I guess."

"Is it a girlfriend of yours?" Gods, I should have slapped myself for that question. Some things are way too personal. "Um, sorry if I ask."

"I may keep that for myself," he replied and his casual nature did relief me somewhat. His smile was also looking genuine, at least it appeared to me like that. "And I am not much of a ladies' man. What about you?"

"Ah, thou hath uncovered my dirty secret," I boasted for a moment as I remembered a few bedtime stories of mine. Certainly helps to own a bar with a frequent clientele that fits my interest. And now that we are at it, maybe I should give it a try. "So, you may not be a womanizer, but what do you like in a female?"

"I don't know; they just don't interest me at all." Score! Now I needed to reel in the catch. "Um, you okay?"

My big grin was probably treacherous of my intentions. "In fact, I do have a certain fondness for males as well. Especially mustelids." Ugh, too fast, too fast, Oskari!

"You are hitting on me, aren't you?" Okay, he got me. Still, I can safe this situation and get me some stripes. Or at least a slap in the face. "And no, just because I said I am not interested in women, I don't mean I am jumping in bed with a man I have known for barely ten minutes."

And that was worth ten slaps at once. I deserved, though. "How about in a few hours then? We have plenty of time to talk and get to know each other."

"Typical extrovert." Sharp tongue for someone that is two heads smaller than me. "You can give it a try, if you want. Don't count on anything else, though."

Oh, he was saying that, but I already had a spot reserved for this catch. "Sure. How about I show off my sword fighting skills, and then we look at the magical curiosities, and then we go to a café and have some talk about ourselves in my bar."

"Sure, if you think you can impress me with that," he said in a bold tone that only made me even more determined to have a taste of him later on.

** Point of View: Gregory**

Well, the sword fighting certainly was interesting to me. And Oskari managed to hold his stance, till he got a professional fencer whopping his fuzzy butt, much to my amusement.

He returned as a loser, but at least held his head up with dignity. And now that he was with me again, he was smiling kindly at me. "So, magic curiosities, right? They do have many, presumably authentic, artifacts."

No need to prolong the inevitable, so I followed him with little expectations. Much to my surprise, that stuff was actually consisting of good replicas. A Grimoire Pandaemonica, several sigils, and a replica of a Scathsolian shaman staff from the Iron Age. The staff certainly was misplaced on a medieval fair."

"Hey, Greg. Badgers are supposed to be good with magic, so do you think you could use some of that stuff?" Oskari asked me in naivety about my possible heritage, but in theory I could use those sigils and the grimoire after some studying. I could use it to make a clown out of myself.

However, as we finished this little treasure, the notion of a café went through my head, making me feel uncomfortable. "You mentioned the bar. How about we skip the café, I am not in the mood for that right now anyway." Certainly, as I and Melanie loved to hang out at cafés since we knew each other from university. Oh fuck it, I was crying again.

"Is something the matter?" That polar bear caught up quickly. How embarrassing, he put his hand on my shoulder and I was still crying. "You know, maybe we could go to the cinema."

I shook my head and took his hand off from me. "This entire idea is just so stupid. Right now I just have other things to sort through than having a blind date from the medieval fair."

Oskari was looking at me with a very noticeable sadness in his eyes. Probably because he now realizes that he may as well wank off tonight. "Maybe you need to find some time to enjoy life again."

"I am not a depressive man, I just lost a good friend of mine," I replied while I was holding back my anger as he still wouldn't just leave me alone. "Just go away. We have met just half an hour ago, so grab another," I was stopped in my sentence as this bear now pulled me into a hug and gave me a kiss on my muzzle.

I was now even angrier at him. I would have smacked him right in the face, if he wasn't such a mountain of a man. Still, it felt good to be honest. Goddess, what was I thinking? I pushed him off and spit his saliva out of my mouth. "Just look for another arse to put your bloody junk in!"

He sighed softly as I rejected him and looked to the side. "I am sorry. I was just thinking about a one night stand and completely neglected you in all this."

My mind was a blur at this point. His words made me so furious, that I just wanted to hit him. But instead I just collapsed and rolled into a ball. "Have you ever seen how Fate rips someone out of your life and you couldn't do anything? That is what happened to me. So please, just piss off." Before I could give him another chance to reply, I somehow managed to get up again and walked swiftly away from him towards the bus station.

He was following me, despite what I told him. But I already was burnt out at that point and just ignored him as he sat down next to me at the station. Gods, I am working for the law enforcement and right now I needed some civil courage. "You know; the bus only comes once an hour."

I got up and checked the timetable of the station. And I had bad luck, the next bus wouldn't be here in 42 minutes. "So what? What do you even want from me?"

"I don't honestly know, if my dick or my heart is making me do it, but I want you to know that I am sorry. But, I may also say that you shouldn't have come here, if instead you may should have talked to a friend or your family about your problems." Friends? Family?

"Even when you try to be considerate, you push people into thorns." I shook my head as I sat back down again. "The only friend I had died, and I came out to my father after I joined law enforcement. You can guess how that looks like for me."

"So I guess there is the problem. You lost basically the only person that meant anything to you. Even though she was only a friend." He told me with an attempted smile. "Perhaps you need someone to fill that void."

I snorted in laughter as I had not the energy to explode in anger anymore. "Are you going to fill that void? We have nothing to do with each other, so don't be so ridiculous."

"Yet, who is going to fill it, if you don't let anyone close to you?" he now said, and I had to admit that he got a point with that. Ugh, bloody perfect.

"Okay, I will give you the chance. If you manage to make me like you, you win this challenge or something," I said with a touch of 'let's get this over with'.

He perked up at that premise and I soon felt how he grabbed me to carry me to his car. Well, I guess that that was better than waiting for more than half an hour. When I was dropped off, he quickly took off the chest piece of his armour as well as the arms. The shirt he had below certainly could use a wash after that. The same with his shorts, which were covered by the greaves of his armour. "So, I think there is a good place that you may would like to see. A bit far off, but wonderfully lush and quiet."

"If you think so," I simply replied and got into the car. It was actually a pretty funny thing, as the car was built for someone his size, making me having so much space it was almost frightening.

Oskari started the car and drove out of the parking lot without stressing himself at all. He was even keeping good track of the speed as we hit the road, which was reassuring. "So, you said you came out to your father and since then you didn't talk to him. When did you realize you were gay?"

"Around 8th grade. I found that breasts and such were not really bringing it for me," I replied and felt a bit embarrassed afterward. "It still sounds dumb, if I say it like that."

He just laughed and side-blew me a kiss. "Oh, I learned it when I got asparagus growing during gym class. Got a nasty nickname for a week or two. Then somebody else wet his pants when I got angry."

That sounds like something helpful. Too bad I didn't have that for myself. "Sounds like school was pretty much normal for you. You mentioned a bar, so I do wonder if that means you run a gay club or something?"

"Oh, not really. I do have a mixed assortment of customers, which range from asexual to pansexual. And an assortment of drinks and foods." Sounds more like a restaurant when he also serves food, but I guess it may be more secondary.

But he did make me curious about his business. "What made you open up a bar in the first place, Oskari?"

"You should see my grades from school. My talents are not academic," he replied as he dodged someone, who drove way to fast on the highway. "Except for mixing together juices, alcohol, cola, and ice tea which is basically a form of chemistry. But enough about me. You said you are working for law enforcement? Like a cop or detective?"

"The later. Not much on the field, but I evaluate information, make profiles, and determine the identity of criminals, amongst other things," I told him as I looked outside at the wonderful forest around us. "And the last thing was about a bull that went haywire. My partner and friend Melanie was thrown off the building. She didn't survive."

"Shit. Now I feel like an asshole for pushing you. Anyway, we are soon there, so maybe you can forget that horrible day," he said in a soft voice that certainly was different from earlier, when he tried to befriend me with an overload of kindness. It had something empathic to it.

"Sorry for acting a bit like a jerk at the medieval fair. The notion of going to a café pushed me over the edge, since I and Melanie loved going to one and talk about our lives, relationships, and hobbies." Darn, was I opening up to him already? Maybe he was right, I needed someone to talk to.

"Ah, we both were a bit at fault back there. Anyway, we are now there." I looked through the window shield to see that he was now entering a very remote area. It didn't even have such a big parking lot. And it was completely empty. "We are close to a lake, so I do wonder. Would you like to wander around and just speak your heart out?"

I blinked a few times and then gave him a nod. As we went out of the car and walked over to the lake, I was feeling much lighter than before. I breathed in the air and let my eyes wander around the trees. "So, what did your family think when you came out?"

He chuckles a bit as we started to walk around the lake. "They already knew it beforehand as I had my magazines lying around when my father cleaned my room. So, they actually were making bets about when I would tell them."

"So, they are okay with it. Good to hear." I smiled a bit at the thought of his parents making ridiculous bets and then exchanging money when their son finally came out. "So, what do you do as hobbies?"

"I did craft myself a full armor for the medieval fair, but I also like playing on my YSphere," he told me and gave me a sly grin. "And I am sexy, aren't I?"

I had to sigh about that statement. "If this is about your bathroom habits, please keep it to yourself."

"You have no idea about those, young badger," he winked at me and punched my gently on my shoulder. "Speaking of which, how was your love-life so far?"

"Still a virgin." Considering I am past the age where it matters, I bluntly told him that. I was not ashamed; it is only sex we were talking about after all. "Not that I tried to change that. Other things keep me well occupied."

"You are on vacation now, though. In case you may want to try it." Trying it out, huh? How does it come that I get that naughty bear? "So, what do you think about Volkoinmaa's landscapes?"

I blew some air and looked at the clear water of the lake. "It is actually pretty nice. I live in one of the biggest cities in the world, so I don't go out into nature so often."

"Oh, it will be even better once the sun sets." Doesn't it always. Good thing we are still early in spring, so it won't be more than an hour or two.

We talked and walked alongside each other for good while till it we reached a perfect spot to see the sun descend. I sat down and laid down on the lush grass. Good that I am never wearing white.

Oskari meanwhile laid down next to me and looked at the sunset. A yawn of his made me jump up, as it was certainly louder than necessary. "Hey Greg, this is kind of a romantic situation, don't you think?"

"Huh?" I looked around ourselves and let out a sigh. "You planned this, didn't you? What is it about me that you find so appealing that you don't just pick an easier catch at your bar?"

Apparently he was now pondering about that same question as his eyes glanced to his left, before he returned to a smile. "Dunno, I originally wanted to cheer you up, and somehow that developed to having an interest in finding out more about you."

"Okay, and the plans that were leading into your bed are just because you let your little friend take over your thinking," I concluded with an amused grin. "I never really ask, but am I attractive? Because that would be a surprise considering that I am your average office slave, plus a gun."

"Wouldn't mind seeing that gun, but to answer your question, I guess you got some qualities to yourself," he said and now held his mouth open and looked his side. "Well, your scent is nice. Still that strong mustelid scent, but not as powerful as some other examples. Well, and your face is cute."

I blinked a little bit as I was a bit dumbfounded at his comment on my body's scent, which was layered under some perfume as well. "My scent?"

He only laughed at that reply and grabbed me in a hug. "Well, it is either through the eyes or the nose, isn't it? But, I am wondering about what you think I look, or smell, like."

"First of all, be sure to shower with the right shampoo later on, second of all," now I actually had to blush under my fur as I tried to find my words. "I can't deny that I fantasized about having a boyfriend of a larger species cuddling with him." Darn it, I was feeling very uncomfortable with admitting this.

"Oh, is that so?" And now he showed exactly why. But to my surprise he didn't push it that much and only turned around to have me lying on top of him, as if he offered himself a futon. "So, how is that fantasy in real?"

"It is a bit awkward to be honest. After all, I guess I have mentioned a few times that we don't know each other for that long," I said and turned my eyes away. "Relationships grow over time. They may start out with a friendly conversation, but ultimately need to be taken care of to actually be friendships. And what we generally call love requires even much more work. At the moment it is nothing more than a crush caused by our hormones playing with our minds."

Oskari was looking a bit startled at my reply, but then began to laugh and tightened the hug to a degree that was breath taking. As in, I couldn't feel my lungs for a few seconds. "Yeah, I guess that is why I had a few people in my bed, who I hardly saw after that again." Despite having laughed at first, his expression eased up quickly, and ultimately turned completely around. "It is only idle chatter, some exchange of personal information, and then the sex. Am I pretending to care just so I can fulfil a most carnal desire?"

I would have slapped my head, if my arms weren't still trapped in that bear hug of Oskari. Instead I decided to speak my mind, "Goddess, you are such a moron. Just remember to ask for my contacts and call me or send an e-mail."

He was smiling again at my suggestion and nose-kissed me. "Sure, I will call you. Just, I have the feeling that you think I am a bit desperate with certain things."

I had to laugh at this noticeably insecure reply, mostly because it stood in a crass contrast to his body size compared to mine. "Oh, you are making me think a few things. But don't worry, I think that is okay. As long as you keep to yourself that I can be sentimental in such circumstances."

"Are you a bit embarrassed about that?" he chuckled into my ear and touched me along my neck with his right index finger. "Well, my tough guy. I think that you are a cute little fella."

Me, a cute little fella? I heard that in a lot of demeaning contexts. But, hearing it a context like that was pretty nice. Oh gosh, I am blushing even worse now. "You are a bit fast, Oskari."

"Never heard that before." He gave me a wink and now I realize how my sentence must sound like. "It will soon be nightfall. Maybe I should drive you back to your place."

Not that there is much to ponder about, he already drove me here out in the wilderness. Far away from any public transit. "Yeah, let us get going."

Much to my surprise, instead of letting me get off from his belly, he actually lifted me up and carried me in his arms. "You are heavy; you know?"

"For me species maybe," I replied and leaned my head closer to his chest. His heartbeat was going fast, so I kind of knew that he was getting either excited or nervous right now.

I meanwhile, well, probably could say that I now had a big polar bear for myself. Is he my boyfriend now, or is he becoming it after a while? I still pondered about that, when we entered his car again and drove back to Suurikukkalat.

Back at my hotel, he opened my door for me and pulled me into a hug. "It was a nice evening. So, how long will you stay here?"

"For about two more days, then I get back home and deal with business over there," I replied with a distracted notion as I saw a few people looking at us. "Maybe we can go up to my room? Parking is free on here anyway."

He smiled and simply followed me inside and upstairs to me hotel room. "Well, this is scenario number 8. Getting invited into a hotel room for some romance."

"At least that is the only thing you don't hide," I told him as I used my key card to enter the room and let him inside with me. At the very least I had the money for the basics, a clean bed, a TV, and a very pristine bathroom. After I took off my shoes, I let myself drop down on the bed and turned my head to Oskari. "Want to get room service?"

"Sure, but I think we can wait a little bit," he said as he took of his footwork, a pair of sandals, and came closer to me and sat down on my bed, next to me, with a very amorous smile on his face. "How about I stay here for tonight?"

With a chuckle I got up and hugged the burly polar bear. "There is only one bed, so you are definitely not good at hiding your intentions. But alright, I am not the type of guy that says after date number x. Mostly because this is my first real date, if I may be honest."

"Is that so? Why is that so?" he asked me as we got a little bit more comfortable on the bed. Thankfully they offer those bigger ones in hotels, but that was not so important right now. "You are, as far you look and smell like, in your late twenties, so an age where I would think you had at least a couple of dates."

"Not really, I really was that outgoing. Not that I am now, but you were really eager to get this far," I said and led my muzzle to his for a quick kiss. "Just, I am not ready for anything beyond cuddling. When we know each other better maybe."

My request only made him laugh again and licked over my face, slowly and with a lot of emphasis around my nose and I could smell the sandwiches we ate earlier. "Petting is a form of cuddling, isn't it?"

"No, you silly, it isn't," I replied and bit playfully into his muzzle. I could feel him pushing out his tongue to touch mine, and then, I could feel something that made me rather nervous.

"Oh, sorry! I was getting a bit too excited," Oskari tried to apologize as he quickly turned away from me. "I may take a shower."

I was lying there as he swiftly stumbled to the bathroom and closed it right behind him, while I had my jaw dropped at his reaction. Apparently I wasn't the only one, who was nervous. But it brought me enough time to drop of my own clothing and put on my pyjama to lie down on my bed and just wait for him to come.

Oskari did take a bit under the shower, as I could hear cursing something I probably would have understood better, if it wasn't in the native language. The context was clear enough however.

As it did take him a while, and also would take a while to dry off, I was drifting off to sleep as I waited and soon was just dreaming.

Oskari was walking with me to a building somewhere in the distance. He was smiling at me and gave me occasional kisses along my neck. "Would you, give up your job to live with me, Greg?"

I was feeling amorous, as I knew that I wanted to sacrifice anything for the life he and I could live together. "Yes, I would and I will."

He laughed and grabbed me to lift me up to his shoulders. The building in front of us turned out to be a block of flats with a very good lobby, something that was certainly expensive in real life. But what would I care, if I had my big bear with me? At least, it seemed to be a happy dream that was born out of romance, yet at the way to our flat, the light was dimmer than before. Oskari let me get off him and glared into the corridor, which was stretching out into absurd lengths.

Before I knew what happen, someone stepped into the floor and walked right towards us. The bull that killed Melanie, weeping as his mind slowly faded to pure wrath, was on his way to us.

"Run, Greg!" Oskari yelled and pushed me on to do as he said, his face struck with a fear that I have not seen before.

But, I wouldn't let him there to die, as I tried to pull my gun from its holster, just to realize that I had none with me. I was completely unarmed.

And the bull, he rushed right at me, his pointy horns aiming for my chest and head, while I was frozen in place, only kept alive by the time that had to pass.

At least that would have been what I expected, but in terror I had to see Oskari jump in between me and that raging killer, getting pierced through his stomach. The next thing I saw was how his innards were torn out and his body dropped backwards.

As I stared into the dead eyes of his corpse, I couldn't hold back anymore. I screamed as tears blurred my vision, and then I was only seeing the bull rushing at me.

"Greg, everything is alright now!" It was all just a dream. Oskari was holding me in his arms, his powerful and vital arms. "Just a nightmare, that's it. I am here with you."

As terrifying as the nightmare was, it was only in my head. Still, Oskari's fur would have been soaked, if he was not having a that oily trait to it. "Yeah, just a nightmare. Thanks for being with me, Oskari."

"Hey, I said I would like to spend the night here, so here I am," he joked and licked over my face another time. "Got to say, it is kind of stuffy on this bed."

Really stuff, considering I could feel myself pressed on him. And, I liked it. It was just a nice feeling I was glad to share with him. And not just now, but for as long as possible.
