#8 of The Guardians Shadow

THE GUARDIANS SHADOW CH 9 The wind rippled through the tarp that had been placed over the hangers roof, to keep the rain out. And doing a horrible job of it. The storm had moved in and was a fierce one. DRIP...DRIP...DRIP "Hunter, there's another leak over here." The Renamon said as she looked down at a steadily increasing puddle of water. "Well, why don't you get another bucket or something and catch the damn water." I yelled at her from over my shoulder, as I covered up my bike and started to head over to my ammo boxes. Desperately trying to keep the water away from anything sensitive that might get damaged by the rain. It'd been about a few days since the army had tried to gun down the dark Renamon, and turned my roof into Swiss Cheese. The repair crew (which as it turns out was some of the marines that had tried to kill the Renamon) were showing their revenge by delaying the repairs to my roof for about a month (I could see their smug little faces as they were sitting by a fire and laughing about my condition right now). Which meant that we were going to have to get used to the idea of sleeping in the rain. BEEP BEEEEEP BEEP. The alarm sounded in the hanger. Signifying the emergence of another digimon Looking over to Renamon and I couldn't help but smile, as she had took on a fighters stance and was looking back at either of the circulating red lights that were attached to horns underneath them. "What's going on here!? Are we under attack or something." She reminded me of my first days at the Hunters training camp. All jumpy and not having a clue as to what's going on. "Not exactly." As I rubbed my wet hands off on my pants then rubbed the bridge of my nose. "Those specific beeps signify the emergence of a digimon somewhere." I told her as I smiled up to the red light. "Then why do you look so excited?" She asked as she covered the last work table with a tarp riddled with holes, but still was watching either lights spin in their casings. "EMERGANCE CONFIRMED! HUNTER TO THE COMMAND CENTER! EMERGANCE CONFIRMED, HUNTER TO THE COMMAND CENTER." "Ah such sweet music." I raised my hands up to the ceiling as well as my head. As if I wanted the rain to grace my face and hands with its pitter patter, or simply pray to the heavens. "Come on Renamon. It's time to get to work." I said looking down at her. * * *

(A FEW MINTUES LATER)

  • * * "So what's the story general?" I asked as soon as the double electronic sliding doors opened to allow me entry to the command center. Only to see him smile at me with a mischievous grin. "Have fun with that Swiss cheese roof of yours?" To which several of the other people in the room to snicker. "Ya, ha ha everyone. Now can we get past the reason why all of you couldn't even catch one digimon on your own home turf and find out what we can about this digimon?" ‘That should shut them up.' And sure enough it did, but when I looked around the room I could see that several of the people weren't looking at me anymore, but at something or should I say someone who just entered the room. Looking over my shoulder I could see that Renamon had just entered the room and was slowly making her way over towards me. "And what the hell is that...thing...doing in here." I turned and saw the general facing towards her and then turn to look at me with a fierce look in his eye. "You know that no-one is allowed to enter here without my direct authorization." He finished while pointing at Renamon. "And I know that that rule only pertains to people...General. There is nothing in that rules that prohibits digimon." As I pointed around the room at several of the people who also had digimon. "I seem to recall that you didn't have a problem when those people brought theirs here." I pointed to all the computer techs that were in the room. "That's because they were given authorization before they brought in their digimon." He finished while he reached over and put his hand on the holstered gun on his hip, then walked over towards us. I didn't need to see this but Renamon had gone from standing, to a fighters stance. Or in other words, a karate stance. (It would take to long to describe, so look it up) "JUST AS I THOUGHT, IT'S GETTING READY TO ATTACK!" Just then he reached for his gun only to find that I'd already pulled mine and had a beat on his head. "I wouldn't try anything general." By this time, all the people in the room had turned and were looking at us. "Not to mention but you're the one who pulled his gun first." I took a half sweeping step to the back and looked at her with a smile. "She was only reacting to the fact that you pulled yours first and only was reacting in a manner to protect herself." As she gave me a confused look for a moment then nodded. She slowly dropped the karate stance, and just stood there. Never taking her eyes off the man. "So unless you want to have a digimon in here, start throwing attacks around. I recommend that you take your hand off your gun, and get on with the briefing." Nobody even moved or took a breath as all eyes were on the general. Watching to see what he was going to do next. But as everyone was watching his body movements, I was watching his eyes. I could see that he was on the verge of doing something drastic, but unable to do anything. "Not to mention, but not only will you be shooting my digital partner, you'll be shooting my new teammate out in the field." "WHAT!!!" Was the full rooms response. From that point on, everyone in the room went into there own conversations with the tech next to them. "Never heard of a Hunter taking on a Digimon." "He even talked down the general." "Not to mention, but have you ever heard of a Black Renamon." And so on, and so on. Until... "SHUT IT!" The general shouted over his shoulder at all the people in the room. "Aren't you supposed to find out where that thing is supposed to emerge." He shouted at the room, which got everyone to quickly shut up, turned around, and the sound of typing was heard throughout the room. "That's more like it." He beamed with his fists on his hips, with his chest out. I could almost imagine the superior laugh coming. (Think of a S/M mistress standing over her pray, laughing) ‘He just loves to throw his rank around.' As I took a long sigh. Just then the screen that covered the whole front wall of the center, went blank for a spit second, then an image of California came up. A small red blip started to flash in the Northern part of the state. ‘Just great. Looks like I'm going to be up for another long ride.' I thought to myself. Needless to say, I didn't need to wait long before I got my answer. We were whisked away to a private jet that was specially made to drop passengers off at high speed altitude. The whole way I couldn't help but smile at the though of how scared this Renamon was going to be. Literally screaming for it's life, the whole way to the ground. Or at least that is what I hoped. In reality-vill it turned out that the plane just landed in Redding. On the trip over I was briefed on the info that the techs had compiled on the Digimon. It turned out that this one was a Dokugumon, ‘A spider like Digimon'. The few hours that we'd spent on the plane had given the local populace enough of a chance to get out of the area or be ensnared by it's Poison Threat attack. * * *

(Flashback)

  • * * Two years ago, I'd been called out to deal with another one of these things. It had set up shop in the forests of Oregon's inland coastal area. Upon first inspection or fist entrance to the area, it reminded me a lot of the movie ‘Arachnophobia'. The whole place was literally covered in spider webs, which made progress extremely difficult as the threads were not only extremely sticky, but also numbingly deadly. One touch of it's thick thread would bring about a small numbing sensation in that area that would quickly spread through the body. I had brought along several different knives, flash grenades, and a few incendiary bombs. Though the incendiary bombs were going to be a last resort, as this was a forest, but the fact as well as these threads were extremely flammable. Finally the last thing was my trusty, modified, sniper rifle. With several different rounds ranging from distance, to penetrating, and finally explosive heads. Just as if I was in a jungle I cut my way through the threads and made my way into the forest/nest. The deeper I went, the worst things looked, as after a few hundred feet there were large cocoons. Now given the size of a Dokugumon, it definitely needed large things to eat, and I shuddered when I saw the skeleton of several large animals hanging by by threads. But nothing could have prepared me for what I saw when I finally met up with the giant spider. After about an hour of searching had finally paid off when I saw the thing turned away from me, oblivious to my intrusion of it's nest. The overly large spider had to be the size of van. It seemed to be wrapping something as it's back legs pulled it's thread from it's backside and brought it to it's front. Making my way around the center of the nest, I was shocked when I got a look at what it was wrapping, it was a human man. The mans body was mostly covered in thread by this point and the spider was slowly wrapping him from his feet to his head. Making sure that every inch of the man was covered tightly by it's thread. Just like someone wraps a thread around a spool. The look in the mans eyes (which still weren't entirely covered) were that of sheer terror as he was being cocooned. "You foolish mortal." Said that spider. "Do you really think with your little gun, you could hurt me?" The man must have been overcome by the threads poison as he just remained still throughout it's ranting. "You should have known better than to trespass into a spiders domain. And now that I've caught you within my thread, you shall be my next meal." The spider opened it's massive mouth and I could see a large bit of drool spilling from either side of it's mouth. I didn't have a moment to loose as I quickly set my gear down and began to piece together my gun. I'd done this so many times I didn't need to see what I was doing as I looked the spider over. It's whole entire body was black as a Black Widow, on it's back was the unmistakable sign of a pirates flag, with yellow bands on back four legs while the front two had what looked like belts on them, behind it's head it had them most unruly red hair and had two strands of it grasped in two hands on either side of it's head, two horns on either side of it's head that were colored yellow with black stripes, three sets of lips that had multiple sharp teeth sticking out, and finally a yellow mask over it's face with nine greenish eyes looking out of. By the time I'd looked the thing over I was finished assembling my gun and was pushing a piercing round into the chamber. Now unlike your regular rounds, this one was not a bullet, more like a razor sharp arrowhead, though it was twice the size of an arrowhead. ‘Got to make this first shot count, otherwise that guys going to be that bitches next meal.' With my right knee on the ground, I placed my left elbow on my left knee and raised the gun up. "And it seems that desert has arrived as well." The spider looked over towards me. "Poison Thread!" She screeched and spat out the thread from her rear. "Please hit." Then squeezed the trigger. "Bang." The shot exploded out of the chamber and flew to it's target. Just as the thread started to show out of the things rear, the shot pierced between it's two back spikes and through them. I watched for a moment as the round made it's way through it's body and out the things neck. Just then the thread lost it's velocity and just fell out of it's back end, along with what could only be the things black blood. * * *

(End Flashback)

  • * * "Tamer? What's wrong with you?" The black Renamon was right up in my face, with a look of concern on it while it shook my shoulder. I scowled at it and pushed the Digi-Fox away, as I got up from my seat and looked at it. "What the hell you stupid fox. I was just remembering how I took out the last one of those spiders. And you had to go and snap me out of my memory." The foxes eyes went wide as it stepped back into a different row of seats. "Surely you jest. How can a mere human like yourself take on a Dokugumon?" I didn't answer as I walked over to the exit of the plane and saw that there was three men awaiting us outside the plane. I waited there for a moment before the door finally lowered and allowed me to exit the plane. "Finally someone who knows what there doing." The man that stood in the middle of the three said. Each of the men that awaited there were all dressed alike, black suits, white button up long sleeve undershirts, black glasses covering their eyes, though their hair was different colors. The middle guy's was blond, on the right of him black, and the left brown. "Would you shut it. He doesn't need to know about that." Said the Black haired guy. "We just need to get him everything he asks for and get him on his way." "Your bikes ready sir." I turned around and saw that the pilot had lowered my bike to the ground from a storage container on the planes underbelly. I walked over to it and un-strapped the bike from the lowered platform and wheeled it from under the plane. "Now gentleman. I'll need several cans of incendiary grenades, flares, and please tell me that you evacuated everyone from the point of emergence."
