#2 of The adventures of Travis McQuinn

-In Travis's office-

The whole day continued silently. Arlene came by to hand me some papers that needed to be filled out, which I was gratefull for since I was about to go insane with nothing to do, this also gave me some time to look at her in more detail, Arlene was well built for having a desk job, very slim, the fur not hidden by her clothing show'd she had white fur with patches of black. Today she wore a DethBunny T-shirt, and tight pants.

As she left, I caught my mind wandering off to Jenny. I stopped it, not wanting to remember anything. The paper's were nothing real big, I could get workers Comp. if I got hurt on the job and had to sign a paper saying "I won't sue if I get hurt bad enough to not be able to work". The usual stuff.

While signing the papers, I heard a knock on the door.

"Come in." I expected to see Arlene again, with another hand full of papers but instead in walked a cat, she stopped and looked around my office.

"I'm terribly sorry, I'm looking for the P.I.'s office."

"Well you found him, sorry it donsn't look like much but I just moved in. What can I help you with?" She walked over to my desk and sat down on the chair opposite of me.

"My name is Natasha Calico and... my little brother has been..... cub napped!" She blurted out the last word and started sobbing, shifting through the purse she carried on her right shoulder, found a tissue and wiped her eyes with it.

I was at a lost for words, I have never been a good people person. Despite her last name, Ms. Calico had competely white fur and, wavy, blonde hair that went to her shoulders. Lucky for me she continued to talk.

"I'll pay anything, just please find him!" She continued sobbing. I felt sorry for her.

"Alright, I'll look for him, I'll need a picture of him, his last known location and your phone number so I can contact you for more information." She handed me a picture from her purse on it was her and a small cub, both were smiling and holding each other in a big hug.

"His name is James, please find him." I looked at the picture, James had to be no-more then fourteen, the picture was of them at the beach, both of them where in there bathing suits and James, like his sister, had competely white fur.

When I was done looking at the picture, Natasha handed me a slip of paper with her phone number one it.

"You don't have to worry, Natasha, I'll find your lost brother." She smiled.

"Thanks. The last time I saw James was the the city park, he was playing with friends." I nodded my head and she got up and started to leave. "Oh, Natasha, nearly forgot"- I handed her a slip of paper with my number on it. -"Just in case you remember anything that will be helpfull to my investigation." She nodded and walked out the door.

I paced abit around my office, thinking of what I should do now. "Okay, the last place he was seen was at the city park, I guess I should start there." I said to myself.

-The city park-

When I arrived at the park, a few blocks away from the P.I. Building, I noticed the lack of children at play, with all the cub's going missing, a lot of families are afraid for there cub's safety. I saw a bear sitting on a nearby bench, playing a guitar, his guitar case was laying next to him, with a few bucks in it. Walking up to him, I put a doller in the case.

"Bless you mister." He said, not looking away from the guitar.

"Yeah, thanks. Hey, got a question for you. Have you seen this kid?" I handed him the photo and pointed at James. He looked at it for a minute.

"Yeah, I know him, he was playing with his friends, yestarday, them little bastards, keep trying to steal my money. Oops, pardon me for saying that. Is he in any trouble?" The bear handed me back the picture.

"It's no big deal, and yeah he's missing."

"Well, so are some other kids, anyways, He left with his someone."

"Did you see who?" The bear scratched his chin.

"Not entirely sure, need someting to jog my memory." The bear smiled as I placed another doller in the case. "Oh yeah, I remember now, it was this jackel, a real strange fella, I was thinking of tellin the cops, but the kid didn't seem to be in any danger since he was smiling."

"Okay, thanks for your help." I turned and walked away as the bear began playing another song on his guitar.

A few minutes later I was calling Natasha. The phone rang twice before she picked up on the other line.

"Hello?"

"Hello, Natasha? Just calling 'cause I have a question, does your little brother know any Jackels?"

"Oh... no, none that I can think of, do you think a Jackel took him?"

"Not sure of it just yet, thanks." I hung up the phone and slipped it into my pants pocket.

"Oh yeah and-" I turned around to ask the bear one more question but he was gone.

I was going to ask the bear where he had seen the Jackel take James but after asking a few more furs, I got my answear. He had taken James to a nearby ice cream store, Cindy's Ice Cream, I remember that place quite well, I took Jenny there on our first date, after she got out of the hospital.

"Aww, the sweet memories." I thought to myself. I shook myself from my little day dream and went inside.

-Cindy's Ice Cream Store-

A young fox was working the counter, her name tag read Mabel, I thought about it, I had meet Mabel somewhere, when I was a cub, but couldn't think of were.

"Hello, welcome to Cindy's Ice Cream"- she turned to look at me. -"Oh my god! It's little Travis McQuinn! All grown up now!" She walked out from behind the counter and gave me a hug.

"Hi Mabel, long time, no see." I remembered her now, Mabel was Cindy's daughter, we had played together, when we were young. "How's Cindy?"

"Oh, mom still thinks she runs the place but other then that she is fine, how are you, and what brings you here!?"

"Well, I'm investigating the disaperance of a child." I opened my I.D. and showed it to her.

"Oh! Look at you. On the right side of the law this time?" She chuckled to herself. "Alright, who are you looking for?"

"I'm looking for a Cat, names James, he was in here yestarday." I put my I.D. away.

"Oh yeah, I remember him, he was such a trouble maker, kinda like you"- she giggled again - "He was in here yesterday with this Jackel, real weird guy. but the James didn't seem to mind him, but if you give a cub ice cream, they dosn't really care all that much who you are." We both laughed to ourselves.

"So, did you know the guy, or did he give you a name or anything?"

"Yeah, said his name was Micheal Davis."

"Alright, did you see where they went after that?"

"No."

"Thanks for your help, Mabel." I turned to walk out.

"Hey, don't think you can just come in and walk out without having some ice cream." Mabel said smiling to herself. I was hungry.

"Oh.. alright." I sat down and in a few minutes, me and mabel where talking about everything, from what we've been doing, to how each other where doing. It was great catching up with Mabel. Finally after having my second double fudge ice cream, my personal favorite, I got up and started walking out.

"Hey Travis, take care. I havn't seen you since what happened to Jenny." I tried to stop her from saying her name, but after she said "Jenny" it flooded back in my mind, Jenny, my jacket, the terrible fire. I walked out of Cindy's Ice Cream and went back home, I was done investigating for today.
