12 year old Kit Cloudkicker has just been adopted by Rebecca
Kit and Rebecca were walking home along the river on a very hot Summer Day. She had just finalized the adoption of the 12 year old boy and were walking back to Higher and higher for a party. Kit was wearing his old green sweater and a pair of blue shorts Rebecca bought for him because she didn't think a young man should walk around without pants. Kit wore an old baseball cap which was given to him by Baloo.
Kit had the sweater since he arrived in Cape Suzette last year. It is the only thing he will wear because it reminds of his life alone while trying to survive without a family. But now the old sweater was fading and torn at the bottom showing his belly button. it was covered in stains, Rebecca tried to fix the elbows with new patches.
Rebecca wanted to at least take his sweater off him and throw it away. Every time she tried to take it off him he'd pull it back down. " You don't need to be reminded about being alone," she said to the boy "You have me and Molly now." She looked at her adopted son walking next to her in the blazing heat. "And we both love you very much.".
Kit was sweating, he wiped his forehead with his hand "I'm hot and sweaty." he said pulling at his sweater. the other boys on the trail were shirtless and some were swimming and diving in the cool river. Rebecca looked at her new son. Kit has worn that sweater everyday since he came to live with her but it was Summer now and he still wore it everyday. Rebecca put her hand on Kits shoulder "Well take off your sweater then ." she said Kit blushed "I can't I'm embarrassed," he said Rebecca had never seen him without a shirt before. "lift up your arms young man," she said with a smile. "But I don't want to show you my chest," he said. Rebecca stood staring at him "If you don't I'll just pull it off," she said Kit knew Rebecca meant it. "But you've never seen my chest before," he said Rebecca kneeled down and touched his shoulder.
"Kit, I don't care what you look like on the outside," she said smiling "I love you for what's inside, your charm, intelligence and your cuteness." Kit blushed.
Kit lifted his arms, sweat stains were visible under the arms. Rebecca lifted the sweater over his head. The boy was small for his age and had a small flat chest and a round tummy. Rebecca thought he was cute. "Don't worry," she said looking at her son "You'll fill out soon," Kit covered his bare chest with his hands "Mom," Kit said shyly looking away from her "don't say fill out it ."
"Now tie your sweater around your waist." she said throwing the sweat soaked sweater to him. "I'll throw it away later."
Rebecca looked at the boy "You know that's not a bad look for you," she said " shorts with no shirt." Kit rubbed his chest. "You should keep it as your new look".
Kit looked down at his chest "Your right mom," he said "this will be the new me." Rebecca tickled his nipples making him laugh out loud.
A cool breeze blew through his fur. "Hey, this isn't so bad," he said. Some girls giggled when they walked passed and Kit blushed. He put his hands on his small hips.
"Maybe I will stay like this," He said sticking out his chest and smiling. Rebecca kissed his forehead. Kit heard the other boys splashing in the water " Can I go swim too mom?" he asked looking at the other boys in the water "Go and have fun," she said rubbing his small bare chest. Kit went to the edge of the river and jumped into the water.
