What is love anyway? Chapter 2

  • * * Steven set his alarm clock for five thirty instead of his normal six o'clock so he would have extra time getting dressed and brushing his light blue and white fur. Even though he was just going to meet up with a friend before class, he wanted to make a good first impression so not to repulse Mikey before even truly meeting him. Steven picked put a light-sky blue T-shirt, with a crackled black and white Aeropostale logo on the front, and a pair of black jeans, along with a pair of blue, black, white DC's with red heel accents to match the jeans and shirt. The huskey was just a little too excited to be meeting a guy he had only met on Myspace -never the less- a few hours earlier. At around eleven fifteen, sleep finally overtook the huskey, and he slept soundly until his alarm clock started blaring "Get Stoned" by Hinder. "Lets, go home! Get stoned! We could end up making love instead of misery! Go home! Get stoned! ‘Cause the sex is so much be..." At that point the turned off the alarm, and -quite literally- jumped out of his bed and headed straight for the bathroom, two doors down from his room. The huskey took his time and toughly washed every part of his body, scrubbing his fur down to the sensitive flesh beneath it. He wanted to make sure there was no dirt or anything in his fur, so to impress Mikey with his cleanliness. Thou what teenage guy really cares about being as clean as possible? After rinsing the suds out of his fur, Steven first towel dried his fur to get most of the water out, then used his blow dryer to completely his soft white belly and his blue back and leg/arm fur. Then smoothed it down so it didn't stick out or look puffy anymore. Finally, he turned around to get his clothes from the rack on the wall when he realized, that in his haste to get clean, he had forgotten his clothes in his bedroom. With a sigh, Steven wrapped a towel around his waist and walked back to his room, bumping into his mother on the way. "Oh! I'm sorry mom, I wasn't looking were I was going." Steven apologized while his ears drew flat against his head in embarrassment, as his cheeks flushed pink. Giggling, Christina replied, "It's okay. I was just coming to make sure you were up. But, as I can see, you've already been awake for a while." she said, giving Steven a once over before adding, "What's the occasion? You never get up this early to -dare I say it- primp, before going to school?" She asked with honest curiosity in her voice. Steven blushed harder, not wanting to tell his mother the truth, he made up a quick lie, "I... uhhh... no real reason, I just woke up early and thought I'd make myself look nice." Steven tried to lie as convincingly as possible. "Mmhmm... so, whose the lucky girl your gonna ask out, hmm?" Christina asked, seeing right through Steven's façade. As she asked she folded her arms around her chest. "N-no one, I-I-"Steven tried to lie but was cut of by his mother saying, "Hehe, It's okay, Steven, relax. You know that as long as you're happy, I'm willing to accept anyone you bring home." She stated, unfolding her arms, and a grin splitting across her muzzle. "Thanks, mom. I love you" Steven said, his ears perking up again, and a smile matching his mothers was appearing on his muzzle. "I love you too, sweety. Now go get dressed, and I'll go make breakfast, okay?" Steven looked down, embarrassed that he had forgotten that he was in still just a towel. Then looked up, smiled apologetically, and nodded. With that, Christina gave her son a hug and headed off toward the kitchen, while Steven went back in his room to get dressed for the day. Christina made bacon, eggs, and toast for her family. Steven was the first one into the dinning room only because he was already awake, but soon after followed Alex, Tyler, and Steve respectively. Each of them woke up in turn when the smell of breakfast permeated into their rooms. Steven wolfed down his share in a hurry to get out to the bus, because the little "encounter" with his mother, he was now running late, even with the extra half an hour he gave himself. As he ran out the door, he shouted back to his family "I'll see ya later guys!!" and was responded with a chorus of ‘see ya's and ‘have a nice day's. The bus ride was nothing out of the normal. Steven sat with his feline friend, Sabrina. They talked about how much their parents got on their nerves, how they hate to baby-sit their siblings, and how they did not, in any way, wanted to go to chemistry this afternoon. The bus ride always seemed to fly by when the two of them chat sit next to each other and make idle chit-chat. When they got William Floyd High School, the duo entered the building from it's north entrance, and went their separate ways. Sabrina went up-stairs to get to her locker, while Steven headed for the music rotunda to meet his friends, and his one new friend. When Steven got to the rotunda, he saw a group of his friends, all of various different species. Standing there were his friends Bianca Bondo (cheetah), Mary Elise (Siberian tiger), Ashleigh Meyer (kangaroo), Heather Romano (fox) and Daniel Engelmann (dalmatian). Steven greeted them all in turn, starting with his best friend Ashleigh ending with Dan, and they all returned the pleasant good morning gesture. After that, they all resumed there conversations except for Ashleigh, who turned to Steven to start talking but was cut off when Steven asked, "Hey Ashes, do you know a guy named Mikey? He said he also goes by Mikeycorpse." Ashleigh thought about it for a second and shook her head. "No, Sorry, I can't say I've ever herd of him. Why do you wanna know?" "Well, it's cuz he found me on Myspace, and wants to meet me this morning' here in the rotunda." Steven replied, frowning a bit that his best friend couldn't help him figure out if this guy was for real or not. "I was just hoping you might know him, and could tell me something' about him." Steven sighed, and looked around him to see if the badger had arrived yet, but had no luck in finding him. "Sorry, Steve. I wish I could help, but I've never herd of him." Ashleigh said, a similar frown spreading across her muzzle. Ashleigh hated not being able to help her friends whenever possible, especially Steven, seeing as Steven is her best friend in the whole world. "Herd of who?" Heather chimed in, since she had been half listening to the conversation her friends were having. "I might be able to help, a know a bunch oh people, and if the furson is a freshmen, than I Should defiantly know him, seeing as I'm a freshy." Heather said a smile now creeping on to her face. "His name is Mikey. He never told me his last name, so I can't give it to you even if I wanted to." Steven told Heather, a frown still firmly planted on his face. But just then Steven remembered something and snapped his fingers and stood up straight to get out of his slouching position. "I just remembered," Steven said reaching into his back pocket, "I printed out a picture of him last night off his Myspace." Steven obviously excited at the little tid-bit of information he had. Steven held out the picture then for his friends to see. "Oh yea, I know him," Heather exclaimed pointing at the badger in the picture, "His name is Michael Labonzza, or just Mikey for short. He's one of my friends. We've know each other or a while now. He's a really nice guy, and cute to. Too bad he's gay, or else I would have dated him." Heather told everyone, with a small sigh, and turned to Dan. "Hey, that's not even cool Heather. You saying you'd rather date a fag then me?!" Dan barked at Heather. Even though Dan claimed to be straight, he has an abnormally high voice, and acted VERY gay. Heather was about to rebuttal, when Steven stepped in, "Hey, you do know I'm half gay right? And that if you insult one fag, you insult us all." Steven said, obviously getting mad at Dan for that little comment. Steven turned to Ashleigh for support in this matter, "Right Ashes?" Ashleigh turned away and blushed. She had just came out to her friends that she is bisexual, but she was still new to the whole ‘Gay Pride' thing. "Yeah, I guess so." She said very quietly, blushing harder as her ears fell against her head, and wrapped the end of her tail around her left ankle. Then she looked up at the two fighting furs and said, "Why are you guys fighting anyway, it's not like he threatened to kill Heather, Steven. He just wanted to know who Heather would rather date." She said turning away again. Steven turned back to Ashleigh, his face now devoid of any anger, so to not hurt her feelings or scare her. "Still, it's a pretty messed up comment," he sighed, "But I guess your right, it's no big deal." Somehow, Ashleigh always had a way to calm Steven before things escalated. Steven then turned back to Dan with an apologetic grin on his muzzle, "Sorry, I shouldn't have flipped out like that...are we cool?" he said, putting on his best said face that he could. The dalmatian sighed, "Sure, no harm done." He said, patting Steven on the shoulder, then ruffling his hair, marveling at how soft it was. Then he turned back to Heather, "Sorry, I tend to jump to conclusions without thinking it through, okay?" Dan said, holding his arms out for a hug from his beloved vixen. She pretended to think about it, then hugged Dan, and nuzzled into his chest and said, "It's okay. I know how you gat sometimes." They stood there for a moment before saying they had to get to class, said there good byes and left for first period. Mary and Bianca just stood there shaking there heads, because they knew that this happened almost everyday, and was always amazed at how Ashleigh seemed to be able to dissolve any tension that was in the air. Shortly after Dan and Heather left, the two felines said they also had to get to class, and left Steven and Ashleigh alone. Ashleigh then turned to Steven and said, "Why don't you call him? He doesn't seem to be around here anywhere." That's when Steven remembered that he had a reason for sticking around the rotunda instead of going to class with his feline friends. "Oh, yea, right. I totally forgot all about him for a minute. Hold on." Steven said, pulling out his blue katana (or as many call it, the ‘knock off razor') and dialed Mike's number that he had been given the night before. As he called, Ashleigh looked at the time on her blackberry, and said she had to go because she couldn't be late to biology. So she gave Steven a hug and waved good bye before departing down the hall. The phone rang about five times before a groggy voice answered, "...Hello?" Steven hesitated a second to long so Mike spoke again, "Who is this?" This time Steven answered, "Hey, Mike?" "Yeah?" "It's Steven..." "OH, SHIT!!!!!!" Mike exclaimed jumping out of his bed now fully awake and aware that he had over slept. "Dude, I'm so sorry! My alarm didn't go off, and my bro didn't wake me up." Steven laughed, "It's okay, it happens, no worries. I was just hoping you didn't decide to forget about me." Steven said Still giggling. "No I wouldn't do that. I'm sorry. Look, I'll make it up to you, I'll buy you lunch after school today okay?" Mike said, now trying to find the clothes which he had laid out for the day, cursing his brother under his breath, witch Steven could hear clear as day. "Umm, sure...oh wait, I can't today, I have to baby-sit my ‘lil bro after school today along with my neighbors kid." Steven said, now depressed that he probably wasn't going to see the badger until tomorrow. "Rain check?" He asked desperately. "Sure," Mike said with a smile, "Just name the time and I'll pick the place." Mike was also depressed that he was not going to meet his new friend for another day. "Cool." Steven said with a smile on his muzzle, "How about Monday after school, seeing as today is Friday." That realization hurt the both of them, for now they would have to wait for Monday to come to see each other. Mike cursed under his breath that he forgot it was Friday, "Okay, I'll be in school in about half an hour, so I'll keep an eye out for you." Mike replied with a smile, even though Steven couldn't see the smile, he could hear the joy in Mike's voice. "Sounds like a plan. But I have to go now, homerooms bout to start. I'll talk to you later." Steven said, not wanting to hang up, but had to. "Okay, see ya later. And again, I'm sorry about this morning'" "Again, it's no big thing, I can live. Bye" "Bye" and with that, Steven hung up, and decided to go to choir lessons instead of Spanish II. Mean while, Mike was in a mad dash to gat ready for school so he might have some chance of seeing the cute huskey boy he was crushing on. The rest of the day went normal for the two of them, nothing eventful happened, and they didn't see each other like they hoped they would. The day eventually ended, and the two went home without seeing each other even once. Mikey didn't do much when he got home, just yelled at his brother, and sat on the computer contemplating whether or not to call Steven. While Steven on the other hand was in charge of watching his brother, Alex, and her neighbor, Alia, a black pantheress, and had to cook dinner and entertain them so he didn't notice when his phone rang on the nightstand in his bedroom. ________________________________________________________________________ ~Author's Note~ Hehe, I know I left y'all hanging with that last paragraph, Bu it mikes you want more so you'll keep coming back.
