Chapter 4: An unlikely partnership.

o0Recap0o

Fox has just arrived in Coneria, and decided to spend the day by doing some sight seeing. Nothing much has really happened, except for the fact that Fox has received a new home, and a new chance to start his new life style. But we all know this style is only temporary, as Fox is ready to seek his revenge, one way or another.

It was a normal, rainy day in the busy city of Coneria. It took quite a few days for Fox to become accustomed to the city life style, and within that time, Fox made a few changes. He bought himself a new set of clothes for him to wear, that were more casual, so people will not recognize who he is. Next, Fox got himself some actual fur dye. Now he can change his fur color, without having to worry about itching, but the kind he bought was pretty cheap. This means, that if even ONE drop of water hits the fur, the dye would come off real easily, on the area the water had touched. So Fox would have to put on a totally different costume on a rainy day, just like this one. Any other day, he would be a white fox, with that cool tattoo mark on his face. But today, he is just wearing a hooded cloak that covered his face pretty well. Fox was just wandering the streets of Coneria, trying to find the best place for information, on what he wanted to know.

"Hm...alright..what did Peppy say to go to, when you need information..." Fox said to himself as he wandered around, others taking a glance at him, and giving him the "What the hell are you wearing?" Look. Fox digs into his mind, to find the advice that old Peppy gave him that one day, in the event where he would have to be a detective.

FLASHBACK

Fox was at the shooting range and testing his new blaster gun, that has just been upgraded. It was now included with a charge function that he can use to his liking. Peppy was watching him and keeping score, and he couldn't help but talk to Fox about life's experiences.

"Wow Fox. You improve every time you train like this. Your score is going off the charts as usual." Peppy said to him as he worked in a room behind a protective glass window.

"What can I say?" Fox shot a charged beam through three robots, then took out two more with two quick shots from his blaster. "Me and this blaster has been through many adventures together."

Peppy laughed a little, before asking Fox another question. "Say, I was wondering, how good are you at finding out information?"

"Um...I say I'm pretty ok. Why do you ask?" Fox asked him with a shrug, and puts his blaster away, making his way into the watch room of the indoor shooting range.

"Ah, good! In that case, where do you go to get your information?" Peppy asked him.

"Um....watch the news?" Fox answered, while scratching his head.

Peppy shook his head, before he spoke to him. "Listen Fox, the news is good and all, but if you really want the root of all information, go to the pub."

"Why would I want to go there?" Fox asked him, sitting down at a table, and crossing his legs on the table.

"Pubs are filled with all sorts of rumors from people all over the galaxy. It's like a gathering place for stories to tell..but the trick to getting information is..to simply sit at a table. And eavesdrop on them." Peppy answered with a confident grin on his face. "You don't even have to say a peep, just let your ears work for you."

"Wow, that's a pretty useful tip. I'll keep that in mind if I ever need to do that." Fox told him, but Peppy's expression changed to a grave one.

"However, Fox..I must give you a warning. Whatever you do, never...."

END FLASHBACK

"Hey...Hey!" Fox called out, as he tries to remember what was the warning Peppy gave him. "Come on...what's the one advice Peppy said that day? Other than the occasional barrel roll?" Fox then shakes his head and gives up, and makes his way over to the pub. "Bah..what's the worst that can happen anyway?"

The Pub was a small building that had a sign that reads: "Black Dragon's Cove." And on top of the black font lettering, was a black female dragon that was clad in a skimpy bikini that barely covered anything. As Fox saw the sign, he wondered if they had any problems with the city when they put up soft porn like that. With that in mind, he walked into the pub.

The pub had a different atmosphere that Fox wasn't really used to. Him being a solider in space, Fox really doesn't have the time to pay a visit to the pubs. The walls were made of fine wood that were kept in neat condition, and the floor was made of large wooden planks. Even the floor itself was neatly polished. The tables were made of wood as well, and they were not nailed to the floor. The counter where the bartender stood at, and the steel chairs, were probably the only thing in this pub that was not wood, and a few fans hung from the ceilings, spinning at a gentle pace. There were a few posters that decorated the walls, posters of bikini models, and very attractive celebrities. There was also a large screen TV that hung on the ceiling, so everyone can watch the sports games. Species of all kinds sat at a table, and the counter, either in groups, or by themselves. And the ones that were in groups were talking about all kinds of things, hanging out, or playing card games that involves gambling, like poker.

Fox made himself comfortable as he sat down at an empty table in the corner, listening out for any interesting conversations that would aid him on his quest.

"So did you hear? I heard that Empress Sera has been rather cranky lately, and has been doing stupid things just because..." Fox didn't hear the rest because he didn't care about an Empress who sounded like a spoiled bitch.

"Hey, I heard that this one guy got mugged by a kid with a screw driver! That's rich!" These guys were just laughing, and talking about stupid criminals.

"I got some information on some serious stuff guys...I think the Sharp Claw pirates are now targeting cities on this planet right now." Fox's ears perked at this information. Pirates? It sounds like the information he would need. "Really? Who are the Sharp Claw?" One rhino asked. "Well, from what I heard, they are supposed to be pirates that kidnaps men...and do stuff to em..real BAD stuff."

"Looks like I found my kind of people." Fox said with a smirk, and stood up from the table, then walked over to the group, wanting to ask more about the Sharp Claw.

"Excuse me." Fox called out to them, but they ignored them. "Excuse me." Fox called a little louder, but they still didn't acknowledge his existence. "Hey! Listen!" Fox did the one thing that he should never do in a pub.

Fox got their attention alright..as the group stood up, and looked down at Fox with anger seething in their eyes. Everyone stopped what they were doing, and looked at the group, and the disguised Fox.They all looked pretty tough, and not one of them liked the way Fox had spoke to them. "Who the fuck are you sssssssuppossssed to be? This aint Halloween, and thissss issssn't a plassssce for little kidsss like you." A green snake who has a damaged eye hissed right in Fox's face...literally.

It was then that Fox remembers the rest of Peppy's advice..which was to never attempt to talk to anyone, if Fox does not know them. It could end badly. "Listen, I just wanted some information, I'm not here to waste my time fighting or anything." Fox apparently didn't know which words to pick in this situation.

"Oh! This little shit thinks he's tougher than us cause we'll waste his time!" The rhino grinds his teeth, and was ready to take Fox down at any moment.

"Now now guys." A black dragon who was most likely the owner walked over to the fight that was bound to start. "I'm sure this guy is here for the same reason just like the rest of us."

"Oh come on, Akito!" The rhino sounded disappointed. "This guy is an embarrassment to us all! Look at what he's wearing!"

"Come on, I'm sure he's just having his happy hour." Akito turned towards Fox, and said, "So, what can I get ya? We have all the bitter drinks you need to waste yourself. Its on the house."

"Um...Milk." Fox answered with a straight face, even though it was hidden.

There was a long, awkward silence in the room. The music stopped, the record player making a messed up sound as it did, and everyone was looking at Fox now.

"Ok...kick his ass." Akito told them, as he stepped back and behind the bartender counter. Normally he would break up fights, but Fox's obnoxious attitude was enough to piss him off.

The Rhino stepped back a few feet and waited for the right moment to charge at Fox and ram him as hard has he can. He waited there patiently, while the Bear lunged at him. Everyone else started to get riled up by the fight, and cheered on the combatants.

Unfortunately for these guys, they have no idea who they are up against. Fox side stepped just enough to let the Bear's body pass him a little, then Fox placed his hands on his back, while bringing up his knee towards the bear's gut. Using the bear's weight against him, Fox pressed down on his back, the bear's gut making a powerful connection with his knee. Droplets of spit fell from the bear's mouth, before Fox elbowed the back of his neck, making him fall flat to the ground. Fox then saw someone coming at him with a chair, and allowed his quick reflexes, to swiftly turn around and sends a roundhouse right across his jaw, knocking out a few teeth in the process. The kick sent the person flying towards two others, and crashing on the floor.

Sitting by the window, and watching all of the action, while taking a few sips from his soda. He was observing this guy's fighting style, and was amazed that he was even able to move this well with the cloak on. "Hang on...his fighting style is familiar..."

Three others came at him, each of them holding a weapon of their own. One held a broken alcohol bottle, one held a steel pole from one of the chairs, and one just came at him barehanded. The one with the pole came at Fox, swinging at him wildly as if it was some toy. Fox side stepped, diped, and dodge with minimal effort. The barehanded one attempt to strike him on his back, his fist aiming right for Fox's spine, but Fox kept an eye on the two the whole time. The pole user horizontally swung at Fox with as much force as possible, and Fox simply ducked under the lethal swing. The pole connected with the barehanded fighter, the pole slamming into the guy's hips. It sent him crumbling to the ground in a feeble position, and while the pole user was in shock, Fox sent a kick straight towards his crotch, which would keep him down for a long time.

"He's swift...his attacks are lethal..and his tactics are second to none..could he be...?" The raccoon kept watching, observing every one of Fox's moves.

The broken bottle user tries to attack Fox with his weapon of choice, but Fox barrel rolled out of the way, since he was still on the ground, uses his hands as a spring to launch him off the ground towards the bottle user, and drill kicked him right in the chest. His body impacted the table, causing it to fall over. That guy was not going to get back up after that. The next attacker grabbed a whole table, and held it as if it was a big mace. The guy was a large ape, and swung at Fox with such vigor. Fox had ducked, barrel rolled, and jumped out of the way, waiting for a moment to strike. His moment came in, when the Ape slammed down the table in a vertical strike, and Fox used the time it would take to lift that table back up, by leaping into the air, then attempt to fly kick the Ape in the face. But the ape was expecting this, and quickly smacked Fox away with his massive hand. Fox spiraled towards the ground, his body bouncing slightly off the ground before he finally landed. "Ah shit..."

"Ok, this is it..if he can find a way out of this situation, then he is indeed...who I think he is." The raccoon waited for Fox's next choice of action.

The Rhino who has been waiting the whole time, waited for Fox to stand up. The moment Fox got on his feet, he heard someone rushing towards him. He didn't know which direction it came from, since he was still slightly dazed from that slap, but his body jumped into the air, as the Rhino ran right under him. The Rhino missed, and ended up running into the power box. The box shocked the shit out of him, and took out the power on the entire pub. The ape who still had the table, had threw it at Fox, who ducked under it just in time. He then lifted up a chair, but by the time he had it in his hands, Fox was already charging at him, and aimed his fly kick towards his mid section, the kick breaking through the chair, and the ape almost hunched over upon impact. Fox wasted no time when he landed, as he started to send a fury of kicks towards the ape, aiming for his face, mid section, legs, and even the crotch. Finally, he ended with a round house kick that sent him rolling into the counter. The others who were going to fight, had retreated, as they ran out of the bar.

"Holy shit...those kicks....theirs only one person who knows how to kick THAT fast..." The Raccoon left the bar, an expression of excitement on his face.

"My...My...My pub!!" Akito shouted. "You! You ruined my pub! What the hell am I going to do!?" Akito pointed at Fox, who started to walk over to him. "Wait..wait..what are you going to do!? Look, I know I told them to do it, so please don't harm me next!" Akito was actually cowering behind the counter, and ducked behind it as low as he can. He could hear Fox walked closer, and then...there was a long pause. Suddenly he heard him leaving the pub. Akito stood up, and saw that the cloaked Fox was gone. He then looked on his counter to find a lot of money, and a note under it.

"Use this to repair the damages. No hard feelings, right?" Akito smiled lightly, and calmed down. "What...a strange guy."

As Fox walked about four feet away from the pub, he bumped into the same Raccoon that was watching him the whole time. "Ah, sorry." Fox was just about to walk by, when the raccoon stood in his way. He had such a giddy smile on his face, as if he spotted a hero or something.

"I watched your battle...your moves, your fighting style...those series of kicks...at such high speeds. Only one animal knows how to fight like that." The Raccoon's eyes lit up, and smiled even wider. And when Fox heard this, his eyes widened. "You...you had to be..." He tries to see Fox's face, but Fox turned his body in another direction. The raccoon attempt to do so again, but Fox kept turning away. "Look out! A smart bomb is heading your way!"

Fox smirked, and laughed. "Come on, kid. You can't get me with that. Slippy is the only one who makes the smart bombs. And only the members of my team uses them." It was then that Fox realized what he just said, and instantly smacked his forehead. "Dammit!"

"Ah ha! I knew it! Wow! You really are him! The legendary---" The raccoon's excitement was cut short as Fox quickly places a hand on his mouth, and drags him over to the corner of the city.

"Alright, look here..you may know my identity and all...but that doesn't mean you can go crazy, and blab it off to everyone. I dont't want anyone to know, got it?" Fox told him in a stern voice, and lets him go.

"You got it Mr. Mc-- I mean...sir!" The raccoon said, giving Fox a salute.

"And stop with the formalities." Fox told him, shaking his head, and putting a hand on his face, closing his eyes. "How did I get myself into this..."

"So, I heard you were looking for the Sharp Claw, right?" The Raccoon said with a smile. "I overheard you trying to get information before the fight. But your in luck pal. I got all the information you need, for I am the one and only..." The raccoon did his pose, as if he was a super hero. "Dun dun dun duuuun! Rumor hunter Kei! And because I am a rumor hunter, I know all about the Sharp Claw's whereabouts, the areas they have hit already, and what they do! I even know where their next target is!"

"Really now? Perhaps you could help me after all." Fox told him, liking this idea.

"BUT...my information is considered valuable. I won't give it out for free. Usually, I would charge any information on the Sharp Claw a million Zen. It's really that valuable. BUT, for you, I can give you a discount. I say we make a deal!" Kei gave a thumbs up to Fox.

"I don't like the look of this...but he seems to be so sure about what he's talking about....alright, I'll go for it." Fox told himself, and decided to agree to Kei's terms.

"Goody! But before we discuss buisness...lets go to your pad! I don't want anyone eavesdropping on us." Kei suggested.

"Alright then, just follow me, and I hope you like walking." Fox told him, as the two headed back towards Fox's home.

Yeeeesh...another long chapter. Something tells me that the more I get into the story, the chapters will get longer XD I will try to make sure they don't get too long, since not alot of people want long chapters like that.
