CHAPTER 3: Predator And Prey

"Just what have you done to the place?" Inura asked as he looked around the room. The robed man smiled at what he'd done with the old room.

"Isn't it great? I got the idea from when I was with that lion boy. He sure loved spending time with me, especially when my cock was up his ass. Virgins are so cute. And soooo tight."

Ruken gave a sound of disgust. "You're just a fucking slut. Chasing after any man."

"That's not the topic of discussion. This is."

What was once an old disused room full of nothing but stone, the robed man had used his shadows to create a bar, full with drinks of many varieties. He was rather proud of himself, but he'd yet to convince everyone else in his organization. Everyone except the leader was in the room.

"I think this is a waste of time." Ruken told him.

"I could do with a drink." The once silent man said. Sitting on one of the stools, he looked at his associate who made the place. "So how do I get one?"

"That's easy. Just think about what you want and use some shadow."

"You didn't just conjure it all out of shadow did you?" Inura asked with an eye raised.

"No, of course not. I borrowed some of it from all the planets we visited."

The silent one chuckled a bit and waved his hand. Instantly, a clear glass landed on the counter in front of him and a bottle opened and filled his glass before being placed away. "Shadow's always help."

"You're favourite glass of wine?" He was asked by the creator of this place.

"Yes." He took a sip of the liquid and set the glass down. "I'm guessing you took the drinks from places we visited as well?"

"Yep."

"I like it."

"Really?" He moved up to the man at the counter and cuddled him. "That makes me so happy, oh, you know just how to inspire me."

Both Inura and Ruken just looked as though they were about to throw up in disgust while the once silent man looked to the side, only to see his associate smiling deeply at him. "This doesn't mean I would have sex with you. And I like women."

The creator of the room pouted and moved away before making a drink with the same technique as his associate. "Well, this place gives us something to do."

Inura sighed. "I don't need a drink."

"Well." The creator pointed over to the left of the room. A few seats materialised and Inura remained unimpressed. "You can always sit down."

"Hmph." Inura took the seat anyway and looked at everyone in the room. Ruken took a seat in the right of the room after it was pointed out to him.

"See, isn't this wonderful?"

"Do you mean what you done to this room?" They all looked to the entrance of the room. Footsteps grew louder and louder as they made contact with the stone floor. Everyone looked and saw the organizations leader and to say he looked angry was an understatement.

"Yes." The creator said. "I think its livened this place up."

"And what purpose does it serve?"

"We can relax and have a nice drink together."

The leader looked down. "I see."

No one moved. They stayed still and silent since they knew it could get very ugly. The creator looked at his leader and spoke. "Um. . .sir?"

In less than a second, he was being held by his neck up off the floor, the leader's grip tightening. He tried to remove his hands away from his neck but he had no chance. "You fucking slut! This is HIS temple and you've turned it into something completely stupid! We have no need for this. Give me a reason why I shouldn't break your neck." The creator pointed at the centre of the room and the leader looked at it. All he saw was black coloured marble, surrounded by stone. "Your point?"

"I. . ."

"Fine." He dropped his subordinate to the floor, leaving him gasp for breath. "Tell me, what is it?"

"It will. . .allow us to. . .see what targets. . .we can go after. . ."

The leader waved his hand over it and the black marble immediately emitted a dark light. Instantly, shadow replica's appeared in mid-air and the leader even gave a small smile. "I see you being a homo may actually have uses. At least to your. . .so called creative side."

"Yes sir."

"Very well. . .you can keep this room." He moved up close to the creator and grabbed him harshly. He was forced to look directly at the leader and it terrified him. "However, if you slack off, I wont hesitate to kill you." He was dropped and he moved back to the counter. "That goes for all of you." As he walked off, Inura, Ruken and the other member stayed silent.

When he was out of the room, the man took another sip of his wine. "You should be careful. You know he means what he says."

He continued to lean against the bar counter, breathing heavily, hoping that his leader would not do anything to him. Ruken however moved up and looked at the mass of shadow replica's. "There's not that many."

"Most of them are from the human. Who he knew. It doesn't mean that we cant go after others."

"Ryan's not in here." Inura said, walking up to it.

"That was my little idea. Once we look into their souls and if they're not the one, their replica disappears."

"Most of them don't look very exciting." Ruken told them. However, his eyes caught one person in particular. He touched the replica and it vanished before reappearing in his hand.

"You've chosen your target Ruken. Have fun." The creator said, finally able to have his drink.

Although he wasn't sure what could happen, the one he chose looked better than most of them. Smiling, Ruken walked towards the door before warping away in a cloud of shadow.

The elder's eyes looked over the mountains. He could feel the shadow's slowly invading this planet and threatening to destroy it. He, like many of his ancestors dreaded this day. The elder was wearing a monks robe just like everyone else. Turning around, he looked at every person who lived here and everyone was silent, watching him.

"It appears things are what they seem. The shadows are here."

"But. . .that cant be right! Our ancestors have lived here for thousands of years." One of the men cried out.

The elder put his hand up. "I know. . .we have all dreaded this day. The fact that the shadow's have come to this planet means they are searching for it."

"What if they do find it?"

"Please be calm everyone." Everyone stayed silent. Parents held onto their children and loved ones while a group of other's remained focused and waited for the elder to speak. "It does not mean that it is necessarily here on this planet, but still, we cannot take that chance. I believe, that as sons and daughters of our God, we must put a stop to the shadows. It is our duty as Azlerian's."

"Who would fight them? The warriors of shadow are rumoured to be strong."

"We have warriors. I have chosen one of our most, and best warriors. Light? Are you there?"

"Yes elder." Standing up in the crowd, a white furred wolf with sapphire eyes and at the age of nineteen, he was ready to receive orders from the temple's elder.

"Come up here, my boy." Light did what he was asked. When he reached the elder, he bowed, showing his respect. "Now, Light, you are one of our most powerful warriors. You've inherited the ancient fighting magic and an ability of your own. I want you to go down to the city and find out where the shadow's are and if you can, stop them at all costs."

"I understand."

However, voices were heard and one of the older warriors stood up and stood out. "You're sending him to the city?! We've never made contact with them, never."

"I am sure our young warrior will do fine. Light knows how to survive in many enviroments."

"But-"

"I believe Light will be fine in the city." The elder changed his sight down to the white wolf and focused on him. "However, the city can be a dangerous place so I assume. I want you to remain vigilant and be careful about what you do."

"I will Elder."

"Well then, lets get you prepared."

"Thank you Elder. It is an honour to do this." Light bowed, but his elder just patted him on the back and led him inside the building. In less than an hour, the elder planned to send the young warrior off to the city.

"So Kayrin, who's this guy?" Tri asked him.

The fox smirked a bit. Everyone was hanging around in one of the cafe's in the acdemy when the fox walked in with Chris at his side and they had all gotten curious about the newcomer. Chris eyes settled on the white ferret and he received a smile off him, the roo really liked Adair and he hoped everyone else would be as friendly as him. Looking around the room, he reminded himself that appearances can be deceiving.

Not waiting for the fox to speak, Chris spoke. "I'm Christian Hawthorn. Call me Chris."

"Well whatever." Chris looked at the one who spoke and his eyes shown him a grey wolf holding his gun in his hands.

"Who are you?" Chris asked.

"Vincent Kiba."

"Oh. . .that Vincent." Chris grinned slyly at the fox and Kayrin blushed.

"What about me?" He asked, noticing. Everyone in the room was getting curious as to what the kangaroo meant.

"Oh, he never told you. Well, Kayrin here-OW!!!!"

Kayrin hand stomped down hard on the roo's foot. "You're going to keep quiet about that!" Kayrin said through gritted teeth. When the fox lifted his foot up, Chris tried to take the weight off it and waited a few moments before he actually leaned on it again. Everyone else in the room either raised their eyes or had no clue what he was meaning.

"Oh I'm going to get you for that."

"So what is it with you guys?" Falco said, keeping a good watch on Chris.

"I'm his guardian."

Flaco remained unimpressed but Ryan got up from his seat and shook hands with him. "Nice to meet you Chris."

"Pleasure's all mine Mr. Lewis."

"Just Ryan please." Chris smiled at him while Kayrin looked at him.

[Knew it. He'll take the first chance he gets.] Still, Kayrin couldn't help but like the idea forming in his head. The fox knew that he and Adair weren't the only two to have had a piece of him and Chris defiantly wanted in on the action. After introductions were over with, both Chris and Karyin took a seat and started talking with the others.

"So Kayrin, how come you never told him about us?" Tri asked him.

"Well. . .never really came up in conversation. And I was always quiet at first." The cat nodded.

"Hey." Kayrin turned to his left and saw Vincent looking at him. "What was all that about earlier?"

The fox blushed. "Nothing. Just something stupid." Vincent turned away while the fox was glad he didn't say anything else.

On the other side of the table, Chris was getting into a conversation with Falco and Krystal. "You're his guardian huh? I think I remember seeing the name on the enrolment form." Krystal said to the roo.

"Well, what do you do anyway?"

"Not much. I have a job with an alright pay."

"You fight?" Falco asked.

"Yeah. Swords. You?"

"I aint saying anything." Chris shook his head at his response but he didn't really mind. When he looked around, he saw Ryan deep in conversation with Fox and Slippy. He smiled a little and looked down, not realising that the vixen was smiling deeply.

She focused on Ryan and the human looked at her. [You've got someone who likes you.]

Ryan smiled back at her. [Do I need to ask who?]

[You can find that out for yourself]

Unaware of the mental conversation they were having, Chris looked at Kayrin and stood up. "Hey kit?"

"What?"

"We need to go."

"Where?"

"Did you forget?" Kayrin blushed a little and stood up. "Nice meeting you guys."

"Where you guys going?"

"No where in particular." Chris answered. Smirking, he walked out the room with Kayrin. Still in her seat, Krystal smiled and got up herself.

"You were reading his thoughts, weren't you?" Fox asked her.

"Maybe, maybe not."

The path was old and even crumbling apart in places, but despite the danger, Light continued to walk down the path. All around him were nothing but mountains but far in the distance, he could see the beginnings of a forest. Beyond that, he would have to find his way to the city. He wondered what such a place was like. The word ‘city' intrigued him. His elder had told him that there was tens of thousands more furs living there than in the temple and that they possessed many things, both strange and fascinating. He was warned as well, that many people would try to hurt him if he was not careful though he believed that he would be fine. He had his own abilities and his favourite dagger hidden away. Those were all the means he had to protect himself but the wolf didn't show any hesitation.

Light paused for a moment and looked through the bag he had with him. He pulled out what he was looking for, and drank a mouthful of water from the canteen. He also checked he had everything he need. Inside the bag were small wooden boxes full of different plants and herbs, a pestle and mortar, many scrolls filled most of his bag but he also had a bag of money that he was told would come in very handy. Putting the water canteen away, Light continued his way down the path.

"It is always quicker going down a mountain than going up." Light said, mimicking his elder's saying. Whether or not the white wolf believed it was still unknown. With each step, the forest in the distance got slightly closer but still remained far away. He looked up and saw dark rain clouds building and he started to speed up his pace. His chosen path would take him through the mountains and into a valley before he could get into the forest. If it rained, he wanted to at least be inside the thick mass of trees were he could find shelter. He planted his steps carefully and walked as fast as he could.

"We've been told that you are the best shot in the entire Academy. You've graduated as well."

"Yeah."

"Which is why we'd like you to test our new shooting range in the forest."

Vincent considered what he was offered. Not long ago, he was taken into a different room with a group of four furs and told about a new shooting range that had recently been completed in the forest a mile out of the city. "I don't know."

"Mr. Kiba, we need someone to test the new area. It will be good for the students to practice in a suitable combat area and it will help them get ready for such a fight in the future."

"Who else will be using the area?"

"No one else. There are targets that have been set up."

"Well. . ." Vincent thought about it and he liked the idea of being the first to break in a new shooting area before the students, plus, he needed a new challenge. It sounded a bit more interesting that just staying in one place trying to shoot bull-eyes all the time. ". . .okay, I'll give it a shot."

"Excellent. We'll all leave in an hour. Bring your guns Mr. Kiba, we haven't got any spare at the cabin."

"Cabin?"

"A bit for students to relax and for us to keep in contact with the academy or the emergency services if need be."

"I get it." Vincent said. The group of furs walked off and the wolf went to gather his things. He was told that it would just be his guns and he was happy with that. Now it was a matter of killing time until he had to leave, so he took walked back down and talked with everyone else in the room from before.

"Where are you off to you Vincent?" Ryan asked him.

"Going to test out a new target range in the forest."

"Sounds fun. I'll have to give it a shot." The human replied.

"Only after I set a new record."

Ryan smirked and for the rest of the hour, Vincent either talked with the others or checked up on his weapons. One of the furs did come back for him and he followed him outside and into a vehicle. The mile long drive was short and quiet and the wolf wasn't bothered about making conversation anyway. When they all got out, the group of four lead Vincent along a trail into the forest. He watched his step as he tried to make his way down a slope along with the four older furs.

"You're going to love it here Vincent." Vincent wasn't sure if he'd believe that. Nothing could beat the shooting he spent hours practising in. It did seem kinda fun though. Surely enough, he saw the cabin and many wooden benches next to it.

"That's our cabin. The area with all the benches is where the students can have a break."

"How come we've never heard of this?" Vincent asked.

"Its still fairly new. We want it to be a surprise for the students. If all goes well, it should be in use by next week."

The group led him into the inside of the cabin but as he walked through the doorway, Vincent spoke to them about something that would be very obvious. After all, he'd seen some of them handle guns poorly. "Yet students running around with guns doesn't seem like a very good idea. They're more likely to hurt each other."

"We will only let the more experienced students use actual guns. The younger ones will use paintball guns."

Vincent almost laughed but he held it back. "That's safer."

They all took a seat. "The point of this area is for target practice and of course, for the younger ones to have competitions. They can go into teams and battle it out."

"This just sounds like some attraction for kids."

"Aren't you looking forward to trying out this place?"

"Yeah. I'll destroy all the targets here and set an impossible to beat record. How does that sound?"

One of the group laughed and smirked at him. "We will see how long it takes you then. But that wont mean it'll be impossible to beat." Vincent smirked back at him. "Well, I better let you know where to go then."

"I suppose you should."

Only that one man led him out of the cabin and further into the area. They were a good twenty metres from the cabin and as he looked back, trees mostly blocked his view. Not far away though, he could see a much denser part of the forest he looked at the man with him.

"Alright, this is where it starts, all the targets are around here. Don't go into the dense part of the forest, that's out of our area and we don't need you getting lost. There are thirty targets spread out in the area, some are more harder to find, others are further out. Here." The man handed him a radio and the wolf pocketed it. "Let us know when you are done. There's a path at the very end of the course."

"Alright."

They shook hands. "Thanks again for agreeing to do this Mr. Kiba."

"Its fine."

"Okay, we'll see you when you're finished."

Vincent watched the man walk off back towards the cabin and he walked into the area. The radio crackled into life and the wolf picked it up. "Yeah?"

The machine responded. "This is a test Vincent, we're starting the clock and targets. . .now!"

Vincent shoved the radio into his pocket and ran through the area. Targets started moving and the wolf fired at each of them, getting perfect hits on them. He went further and saw targets above him, some stationary while some moved and he had no problem in hitting any of them. Seeing no more targets in this part of the course, Vincent ran further away from the cabin and deeper into the forest.

Back at the cabin, the four furs were sitting at the desk. "Its good that this place will be open soon."

"Vincent's a good shot. He's already got perfect hits on more than sixty percent of the targets."

"We'll also get a good pay for this as well." They all laughed at that prospect and one of them brought out a few drinks.

"May as well kill time while we wait for him." They all agreed and started drinking.

Without warning though, the door slammed open and a robed man walked in. The four of them looked stunned and a bit shocked. He looked around and his eyes looked on the four in front of him. "Where's Vincent Kiba?"

"Are you a Claxan?" One of them asked.

"No. But I'll ask again, where is Vincent Kiba?" None of them spoke and the robed man shook his head. "You better answer."

"We don't know."

"Do you take me for a fool?" The robed man pulled his hood down and the group of furs just stared at him.

"Holy fuck. . .you're. . .you're a. . ."

"Where is he?" His eyes caught one of the four trying to use the radio and when the fur looked back at him, all he saw was rage. "Put that down." The fur stayed frozen and he grew annoyed. He snarled and spoke again. "One last chance. . .where is Vincent Kiba?" They all stayed silent and the robed man smiled sadistically at them. "Big mistake."

He charged at them and the fur desperately tried to use the radio. He felt the intruder's hands on him and he took a breath, not realising it was going to be his last.

Vincent shot at the last target and put his gun away. He was rather satisfied with himself and he walked down the path while pulling out the radio from his pocket. "Hey guys, I'm-" He listened into the radio, all he got was static. He switched it off and turned it back on. Again, all he got was static. He pocketed the radio, grumbling. "Stupid piece of shit." Still, Vincent walked in the direction of the cabin.

A branch snapped and he looked around. He could hear the wind blowing though the trees and the birds in the distance. He ignored it, thinking it was nothing. Leaves crunched beneath his boots but he focused his ears. Someone was walking towards him and he thought it was the man who brought him out here.

[Maybe the radio did work?] He shook his head and kept walking. A laughter filled Vincent's ears and he looked around.

"My, oh my. You do look quite promising."

The wolf stayed still, the voice was different. "Okay, if you guys are playing tricks on me, you can forget it."

"Tricks? What tricks? I'm right over here?"

Vincent looked around. He stopped when he saw a person wearing a dark blue robe in the distance. The man waved him down but Vincent wasn't going to obey him. "Who the hell are you?" The person vanished in a cloud of shadow and Vincent wondered if his eyes were playing tricks on him. He didn't even know why he shouted those words now and he just shook his head, telling his mind that he was just seeing things.

Something landed in front of his feet though. Whatever it was, it was a dark violet colour and he tried to find out where it came from. Bending over, the wolf picked up the item and his eyes widened. "Good resemblance huh?"

Vincent looked around and back at what he was holding. It was a perfect replica of himself but rather than stare at it for any longer, the wolf tossed it to the leaf covered ground. "What the?!"

The object flew upwards and into the hands of the robed man he had seen earlier. "Wouldn't you agree?"

"Who are you?"

The man was sitting comfortably on a branch, looking at the canine beneath him. "Me?" The man jumped down and landed in front of Vincent. "I'm your worst nightmare."

Vincent felt something hard hit his stomach, forcing all the air out of his body. In a second, he was launched backwards before he slammed hard into the trunk of a tree. He groaned a bit once he hit the ground but the wolf managed to get up. "W-Who are you?"

His attacker didn't answer. Instead, he threw another punch, missing the wolf by inches. Vincent watched as the large tree splintered and broke before falling to the ground. "It's a good thing you dodged. That was suppose to be your head." He shown his hand to the canine. He immediately saw that it was covered in dark scales but the man took no injury from what he just did.

Vincent grabbed the radio and tried many different frequencies but the man knocked it out of his hand before crushing it with his foot. "Shit." Vincent said.

"Come here my little puppy."

"Fuck you."

"Bad boy." The man chuckled and darted forward, throwing a powerful kick that connected with the wolf's chest sending him flying off his feet.

When he next landed, Vincent held his chest tightly as he got up. "Fuck he's fast." It didn't stop there, the man either kept attacking or pushing him further away from the cabin and deeper into the forest. Soon, Vincent was in an area he didn't recognise and the man laughed at him.

"I rather like this dog."

"Who are you?" Vincent asked again. The man walked towards him and pulled down his hood. What the wolf was looking at made him wonder what such a species was doing here on Corneria.

"Ruken. A member of the Dark Star Zealots, and third in the Inner Star Sector."

"You're a. . ."

"What? You haven't seen a Tyrannosaur before?"

Vincent gulped. He still couldn't believe that a T-Rex was staring at him. When he first saw the scales, he assumed that the man was some species of dragon or lizard. There was no way a T-Rex should even be on Corneria, Sauria maybe, but even then he wasn't sure.

"I'm going to go with no. Hehehehe."

"What do you want with me?"

"You're my target. And I need to know something. Are the one we seek?"

"One. . .you seek?"

"Allow me to show you." He watched the wolf wonder what he was talking about but he didn't give him any time. In a second, he had the canine in his grip and he started sending wave after wave of dark energy into the wolf. Ruken smiled as he looked inside the canine, it was different from many others he'd looked into before, and it made him hope that this was the one. His hope turned to disappointment then anger when he couldn't find anything. Grunting a bit, he tossed the canine to the floor and watched him gasp for breath. "No. You're not the one we need."

Vincent looked at him with an icy glare. "What did you-?"

"You're not the one." The tyrannosaur cut in. Ruken smiled evilly and laughed. "So there's no more use for you."

"What?"

Ruken licked his lips and stared intently on the canine. "I rather like this. I'm the predator." Vincent tried to make sense of what he said as he continued to look up at him. "And you're my prey."

"Prey?" He watched Ruken lick his lips again and once he looked into the tyrannosaur's eyes, he couldn't believe it. "You. . .you'd actually. . ."

"That's what a predator does. He hunts his prey. . ." Ruken bent down and levelled himself with Vincent. ". . .and eats it. And I'm rather hungry."

Vincent decided that he would never become a meal for this bastard or anyone. In a flash, the wolf had kicked the tyrannosaur hard in the neck causing him to grunt and stagger onto the ground. Not sticking around, Vincent legged it back the way he came.

"YOU LITTLE FUCK!!!" Ruken charged after him and managed to jump in front of the wolf.

"Shit!" Before Vincent could even turn, Ruken had hit him hard in the chest and thrown him upwards into the air. He looked back down and saw the zealot ready another punch. It came towards him hard, knocking all the air out of him again and the sound of something breaking was heard very clearly.

The tyrannosaur looked at him as Vincent's eyes started to close. "That sound of breaking twigs, where those your ribs?" Ruken grinned sadistically while Vincent hung limply. The large tyrannosaur's fist was still pushing deeper into his chest. He didn't scream, but as his mouth opened, he coughed up blood onto the ground. Ruken noticed and stared at the forest floor, where the little droplets of blood landed. Its scent filled his nostrils and he shuddered slightly. He always loved the smell of blood, the only thing better was to taste it. He dropped the wolf to the ground and inhaled the scent deeply, groaning slightly. He shifted his gaze slightly, to the source of the blood's origin. Vincent lay on his back trying to deal with the pain of broken ribs.

As he lay there, he clenched his eyes shut. He knew he had to get out of here, in his current condition, he could in no way fight Ruken. He felt the zealot kneel next to him, but rather than say anything, he felt the dinosaur's hot breath on his face as well as Ruken inhaling his scent. He looked up and saw Ruken's eyes. The round black pupil was changing into a slit, much like a cats.

Ruken grabbed him roughly, making Vincent cry out in pain. He felt both of the zealots scaly hands on his arms, keeping him off the ground. Ruken sniffed the wolf again and gave a low throated growl. The growl went straight through Vincent's body, nearly paralysing him with fear. He stared directly into his captors eyes before they went wide with shock and pain.

Vincent's screams were gut-wrenching, becoming more agonising every second. Ruken had opened his jaw wide and bit down hard on the wolf's shoulder. The strong teeth continued to gouge deeper into his body, blood flowed without any sign of stopping. Vincent heard something snap, but it was his collarbone that had just been broken by the sheer force of the zealot. He couldn't believe it, his attacker was trying to take a bite out of him, literally. He couldn't take it anymore, reaching down for his gun, he quickly pulled it out of its holder and pulled the trigger.

Ruken roared and released the canid to the ground. Vincent struggled to stand but he managed. In front of him, Ruken covered his left eye, the husky's weapon hit him just below his eye, but it hurt. The wolf watched as blood dripped from the tyrannosaur's mouth, his blood. Ruken seemed to be in a trance and then licked some of the blood.

". . .So. . .pure. . .I've never tasted such a soul before. . ." Vincent tried to make sense of what he just said, but Ruken stepped forward, with a determined and hungry look in his eyes. ". . .run. . ."

"What?"

"I said run. . .I love chasing down my prey. . ." Ruken snarled and shadows began to surround him before he was completely covered. Vincent could see an outline in the huge shadow and it was growing larger and larger. The thing roared and Vincent ran for his life.

"You gotta be fucking joking!!" He ignored the pain as best as he could. He looked around himself, tree's and branches were in all directions. He didn't even know if he was heading in the right direction since Ruken had destroyed most of his equipment. Now, he was alone. . .no, he wasn't alone. Behind him, a low growl alerted him to the monster behind him. Although his eyes shifted, he could barely command his body to move. He didn't want to turn and see what was chasing him. His body was almost covered in blood, but his fear kept him going. It was either run or die. But still, his body wouldn't move, the monster moved slightly to his left and then to his right, waiting for him to make a decision. Vincent gulped and slowly moved his head towards the right. His face grew pale as he saw the gigantic creature behind him. He didn't even go as high as its knee. The creature opened its mouth slightly and he saw those huge teeth, each one of them like guillotine's. Before it came at him, all he could say was "No way."

The creature moved forward to seize him, its huge mouth agape. Vincent got ahead though and ran as fast as his legs would move. He started darting around the trees and managed to get into a much denser part of the forest. He turned and saw the creature staring at him and pushing forward, it was not going to let up and the wolf didn't want it to break through. Vincent kept on running and he could it roar. As its cries got further away, he found himself tripping a few times but he kept pushing himself. He managed to keep himself from going into shock but he knew he couldn't stay were he was. The canine ran towards the cabin that he sat in not an hour ago, hoping that the people who brought him out here were still there. In less than a minute he could see it but he didn't want to dart straight out in case the creature was there. Looking about carefully and listening, Vincent forced his injured and bloody body onward and inside the cabin.

"Hey! We've got to-!" The grey furred wolf froze, he couldn't believe what he saw. He turned and vomited violently onto the floor but still he looked back. The people who brought him here were no longer among the living. Each of them had been torn apart and not by any sort of weapon. Blood and gore covered the entire room and his mind focused on the zealot who attacked him. He tried looking around for something to make contact with but it was all destroyed. One of the bodies, --he couldn't tell who it was-- was mangled over the smashed equipment. He managed to keep himself from throwing up again and tried to think.

Then it hit him. His eyes darted around the place and he focused his ears. The whole place was silent, the birds stopped calling and the sound of insects and other creatures were gone. Something had scared them off. Vincent gulped, tasting vomit and blood at the same time which reminded him of his injuries. He felt a bit weaker due to the blood loss and his chest felt like it was on fire but he didn't want to collapse and die here. He wished it over and over again, wishing that he never came out here at all. He hated it, the things he'd felt and saw with his own eyes nearly reduced him to a whimpering pup. He shook his head, this shouldn't have been real. He made a choice, either stay here and bleed to death or wait for the creature to find him, or try and get some help from the city. He chose the latter, no matter how risky it seemed.

Carefully and as quietly as he could, Vincent walked to the main door and looked around outside. He couldn't see anything but that didn't mean it wasn't out there watching him. He took a few steps and made a run for it. A low throated growl alerted him to its presence, causing him to stop. His eyes grew wide with terror and he turned his head. Just behind the cabin, the creature had one of the torn bodies in its mouth. Vincent gulped as it's eyes focused on him. The creature dropped the body to the forest floor and took a step towards him. He ran. He ran as quickly as he could. The large creature's roar travelled through his body making him run faster and faster as the fear inside him reached new heights. He could feel the large shockwaves generated by the massive creature's strides as it chased him down.

Vincent darted through the remaining trees, but he knew he wouldn't be able to outrun the creature forever. Eventually it would catch up to him. However, he recognised the area around him. He looked up and saw a tall building in the distance. He just had to run uphill quickly enough and make his way towards the city. The creature was still behind him so tried to sprint up the hill. He was almost there.

The sound of a guillotine like thwack filled his ears and the wolf screamed. "AHHHHHH!!!!!" Vincent felt something crush his leg. He was lifted up metres in to the air and thrown down to the ground. His head took most of the fall, blurring his vision red before clearing. The creature was now above him. As his eyes closed, Vincent thought of everyone he loved, met and became friends with. The creature opened its mouth and went for him. The last thing the wolf saw was the large teeth and a gape more than a metre wide.

[At least it'll be quick]

"Sir, we have a problem." Fara said as she walked into General Pepper's office.

"What is it? Has Ryan been attacked? Or have the Claxan made another move?"

"No sir. Its Vincent Kiba, we cant find him anywhere."

The General looked up, putting the document he was reading aside. "What?"

"His last known location was in the forest. Just a mile out of the city. He was asked to test out the new target range. We haven't been able to contact him or any of the group that was with him for more than an hour."

Pepper considered his options carefully. "Alright. . . .gather up as many of the graduates as you can to find him and anyone else who's willing to help. The forest is a big place Fara. Let us hope they just got lost."

Fara nodded and left the general's office. He sighed heavily, he had enough on his plate with the Claxan but the Zealots who had just appeared made him wonder.

Grabbing his phone, he hesitated. "The president's not going to like this."
