Chapter 10 - The View from Above

I awoke the next morning to find out not only was I alone in bed, but that I was back in my own room. I concluded that it was either the best dream that I've ever had in my life or that Wolf was just that sneaky of a bastard to put me in my own bed.

It was definitely the latter though. Not only was he a sneaky bastard, the scar he formed last night was still there and a bandage was wrapped around my chest as well. I knew that Reno definitely would've been pissed off at me because of last night. Threatening to kill Wolf, I'm pretty sure he was. I don't think me visiting his room last night helped the cause either. I was still naked lying down in bed, so I looked into my luggage and just tossed on loose t-shirt and some random pair of gym shorts I had thrown into the bag (no underwear, mind you. I don't think it was worth wasting a pair staying on my home away from home).

I slowly trekked down the hallway thinking about what to say, as well as thinking about what he was going to say to me. My heart was racing at the thought of it all. I really did care for Reno though. Just the fact that he's been with me through it since we were younger gives him that edge over Wolf.

I knocked on his door. "Reno... It's me. Can I come inside?"

"Why don't you just go back to Wolf? It was obvious that you two were having a better time with each other last night. I'm pretty sure that you'd like to keep it in the wolf pack as well." Reno's voice had an angry tone attached to it as well.

"Reno, don't give me that shit. Please... Let me in."

"..." I heard nothing from him.

"Reno... What do you want me to do?"

"Just fuck off, Reiji. I really don't wanna see you right now."

With Wolf's security system, there was little I could do to get inside his room. I slammed my fist against the wall in dismay.

"Fuck!" It hasn't even been two weeks since we got hitched, and I already fucked it up. This wasn't happening. It wasn't supposed to happen like this!

I started walking around the ship to go and find where Wolf was. Perhaps his years of living over me could give me some useful advice. I eventually found a staircase near the front of the ship leading up to the ship's bridge. There was Wolf, sitting in his captain's chair in front of a rather elaborate console that helped him control the ship.

"Morning, Rei." He said to me as he was fully focused forward minding the ship's condition and direction. "We're about halfway to Katina, if you're wondering."

"Thanks for the update, but its Reno..." I said.

"Ah, he's that pissed off at you?"

"Eh... Yeah, he is. To the point where he didn't want to see me either. He never even gave me the light of day."

"Just give him a little time to cool down. Once he's out of his room, that's when you make your move. Prove to him that all we have is just something casual between each other. While I help you out in one area of having a great sex life, make him realize that you need him for something as well. May it be something sexually or emotionally... Prove to him that you love him."

"Yeah, that seems like the obvious route to go."

"Or you could sacrifice another part of your body for him to scar up like we did."

"If only dragon scales were easy to penetrate." I sighed at the thought.

"Don't worry about it too much though, if he was really that pissed off at you, he wouldn't have responded the first time to you. The fact that he even talked to you shows that he still gives a damn, but he's just not ready to talk to you yet."

Just then I noticed something, all I mentioned was Reno's name and Wolf knew exactly what was wrong with the situation and every possible angle on how to solve it.

Even before I opened my mouth, Wolf muttered out, "Yeah, Reiji, you're that predictable. You really have to learn how to hide your emotions sometimes."

"Fuck!" I started to storm out of the room. "Ugh, thanks, Wolf. I needed that predictable chat."

"Anytime."

I returned downstairs to the living room and sat on the couch directly in front of the TV thinking intently about what I would do for Reno. So intently, I ended up falling asleep on the couch...

I awoke to find myself back at home at the outskirts of Corneria City. Not only was in my old home that I vowed never to return to, but I awoke to find myself back in my thirteen year old body.

I darted out of bed in shock freaking out. How the hell was I back here again?! There wasn't any conceivable way that this could even happen! Just as I was about to dart out the front door to scream at the top of my lungs, I saw a black dragon stand in my way.

"No way..." I thought to myself.

"About time, Rei, I was wondering when you were gonna open the door. I've been waiting here for about five minutes already."

"Oh yeah... Sorry, I guess I kinda dozed off there." I said.

"I can't believe you would sleep through my last day here! What kind of best friend are you?"

The memories of when I was younger suddenly rushed back to me. This was the day that Reno and his family were leaving Corneria and moving to Katina.

"No, of course not... C'mon in, I still have to get ready."

My body kinda just moved on its own. Recreating almost every precise action that I did that day. I grabbed his hand and pulled him into the house quickly rushing into my room. Locking it behind me, he pounced on me, tackling me on the floor. We rolled along the floor wresting like kids would do. We laughed not knowing whether if we would ever being doing this or even see each other again (Little did we know...)

We were both lying on the floor staring at the ceiling just laughing and having fun. His left hand grabbed my right hand.

"Hey, Reiji, do you think it's wrong to like another guy?" Reno asked out of nowhere.

"What'd ya mean? I like you." I replied.

"Not like that, I mean, 'like like' a guy."

"Huh?"

"If I said that I liked you, liked you, Rei, would that change anything between us?" Through his dark scales I could clearly see the blushing action going on. I could even tell his heart was racing.

Then it all came back to me. This was when Reno came out of the closet to me. I didn't really think much of it at the time.

"Why would anything change between us? You're still the same huge lug of a dragon that's still my best friend." Reno turned over to me.

"Then promise me this." He grabbed my other hand. "We'll wait for each other. We'll make sure that one day in the future we'll see each other again and that we'll never let anything come between our friendship."

"Promise." Not knowing what to do, I gave him a quick peck on the cheek.

"Rei..." He then made a move on me and moved his lips towards mine. We didn't know it back then, but we were making out with each other and this just mean we were sealing our promise with each other.

I opened my eyes to find I was back in the Wolfen. I was breathing heavily remembering my first kiss with Reno. At that point I knew exactly what I had to do to prove to him that I was still his.

I ran back over to his room and just kept knocking heavily on his door.

"Reno, god dammit!" I yelled, "Open the fucking door!"

"What the hell is your problem, Reiji?! I told you that I didn't want to see you right now!" His voice boomed from the room.

"Don't make me break down this fucking door! I don't wanna have to knock you the fuck out!"

It was a brief moment of silence before the door opened and Reno stood there blocking my way in.

"Knock me the fuck out? You're joking, right? I overpower you second to none, Rei."

"Try me then. You don't know how strong I really am."

"Says the wolf that got claws dug into his chest."

My fist was tightening up. I was getting pissed off at him just for being so god damn stubborn. I was just about ready to throw a punch at his face, until I was suddenly stopped by Wolf saying something as he was about to go into his room.

"Take it to the gym, Rei. I don't want to have to clean up another bloody mess in here."

"Gah! Am I that fucking predictable?!"

"Yes!" both Reno and Wolf said.

I stormed off to the gym and found this rather convenient caged area that Wolf had made for his ship.

"Reno, what's it gonna take for me to prove to you that I'm not hooking up with Wolf?"

"It's too late for that! It's fucking over between us! I don't give a shit if Spike dies anymore!"

Wow, I was going for a low blow with him, but that was even lower. However, it was enough for me to set my plan into action.

"Fucker...!" I charged towards him and rammed him against the caged wall in the hexagonal arena. "Don't talk shit about my brother!" I started to knee him in the stomach attempting to get him on the floor, but as I predicted, he was going to easily overpower me. I guess there's just something about dragons that they're just naturally powerful. He quickly countered my attacks and socked me in the face with a right hook.

Hoping to at least get him down onto the ground I threw a high kick aiming for his chin. Missing it by only centimeters, He quickly grabbed my foot and swept me down to the ground. The 6'4" dragon now towered over me, and looked like he was ready to stomp into my face with his humongous foot. Instead, he did exactly what I wanted him to do. Sit on top of my stomach and beat up my face.

As horrible as that sounds, it was all going according to plan... Well, sort of...

He was ready to throw a well focused punch straight at my face, but I quickly reacted and blocked each incoming strike. I finally found my chance to counter him and quickly turned the tables switching positions. Now he was with his back on the floor and I towered over him.

"Oh no you don't!" He yelled as he fought for the top position again. We rolled around struggling for dominance and my plan had been set into action. While we were rolling around grappling each other, I could help but start to laugh. I let him take the dominant position as he angrily questioned me. "What the fuck is so funny?!"

He was ready to throw another punch at me again. Just before he could strike me, I asked, "Hey, Reno, is it wrong to like another guy?"

He socked me in the face and was ready to throw another punch. "Dammit, Reno, answer me, is it wrong to like another guy?"

"What the fuck is that supposed to do with this?!" He socked me again.

"Is it wrong to 'like like' someone?!" I yelled back to him. He then realized what was going on.

"Rei..." He let go of his offense.

"If I said that I 'liked you, liked you', Reno, would that change anything between us?!"

"Rei... That was five years ago."

"Answer me, Reno." I wasn't going to take his bullshit about why he was angry at me. "Would that change anything between us?"

"No... It wouldn't... You're still the same stubborn shit of a wolf that I know."

I grabbed both of his hands. "We made a promise to each other five years ago. We would wait for each other and that one day in the future we would see each other and not allow anything to come between us. I waited five years to dedicate my life to someone I truly love. I might have had a casual stint with others, but they don't mean nearly as much as when I'm with you, Reno. No one can replace you. No one can replace the big lug a dragon that was once my best friend but is now my lover."

"Rei..." Reno collapsed on top of me balling his eyes out. I could only hug him as tightly as my arms would allow me to while I struggle to breathe under his weight.

"You mean just as much to me as Spike does. He's family, but you're my core, Reno. Without a core, I don't think I could live. It was hard for me to fill the void when you moved to Katina. You don't know how happy I was when you appeared at my door that day, Reno. It's like I was finally complete again. The only friend that truly knew me came back into my life. Just because I had sex with Wolf because YOU gave him permission to, do you think I would throw everything that meant something to me away like that?"

"I'm sorry, Rei... I overreacted. I was just so set that because you met another wolf that you made such a deep connection with so instantly that I wouldn't mean anything to you anymore..."

"You're such an idiot, Reno. You could damn well save Katina from one of the biggest threats in our system, but you sure don't know when your boyfriend means something."

"And listen, I didn't mean anything I said about Spike... I was just-"

"I know." I kissed him on the neck because that's how far under his weight I could reach him. "Now as lovey-dovey as we are again, can you PLEASE get off of me? You're awfully heavy."

"Oh, sorry!" Reno quickly pushed off of me and I gasped for air. He picked me up off the ground and took me over to the locker room area of the gym floor. He searched for a first aid kit to treat some of the injuries he had inflicted on me.

He took my shirt off revealing the bandage that was wrapped around my chest. He started to unravel it exposing the scar that Wolf had left for me there. It was a slight protrusion of skin that could be seen through my dark fur.

"Hmm... The scar that Wolf left there... Looks hot on you." Reno said to me touching it softly. "Makes you look like a bad ass."

"You know, that's exactly what he said to me before it even started to heal. A scar would look pretty hot on you too, but its so god damn hard to penetrate dragon scales."

"Sorry, Rei. That's just how we were built."

"S'all right, babe." I stood up and hugged him from behind. "I thought a lot about what I could do with you that Wolf and I did. You know, the whole bound by blood thing."

"Hmm... Come with me to my room. I have something that we could both do for each other."

He quickly patched me up and carried me up to the next level.

"You know that you don't have to carry me, right?" I said to him.

"I insist. I feel bad about punching your face like that." He said back. Actually, I didn't give a damn. As I said before, there's nothing like having huge dragon arms embracing you.

"So how did Wolf style your room?"

"After my apartment in Katina. Looks exactly like it." Reno noticed something different about his room. "What's this?"

He asked. A small stack of clothes were piled on his bed. There was a note attached to it.

_I assume that you two have kissed and made up. Here's the uniforms you'll be wearing for the Wolfpack Core.

"How the-?" I asked.

"I just don't question it anymore, Rei. Wolf works wonders on this ship."

"Good point. You should try your outfit on, Reno." I said to him. Reno's outfit consisted of a maroon colored muscle tee, black cargo shorts, and some black knee pads, as well as a new sheath for his broadsword, his weapon of choice. It was made of silver and had "Blackjack" engraved into it on the left with a dragon emblem on the opposite side. The holder wrapped around his chest like a messenger bag while the sword rested on the back. "He even knew my sword name... Wow."

"Knee pads?" I asked.

"I wear shorts for a reason. Every pair of long pants I've ever worn in battle has always managed to rip on me because of my frame. So I switched to short and used knee pads to protect me while I kneel."

He finished the outfit off and slipped on some steel plated boots that covered up the rest of his legs that the shorts failed to cover.. "It's a perfect fit, babe." I said to him, kissing him on the lips.

"Yeah, Wolf is some tailor... What about you?"

My outfit consisted of a black, form-fitting t-shirt, a red military jacket with baseball length sleeves (about mid-forearm length) and black paw print logo embedded on the front on right sleeve, black cargo pants, steel toe boots much like Falco's (see Super Smash Bros. Brawl outfit), a new holder for my embedded in white with a wolf belt clip, and some fingerless gloves for grip.

"Hmm..." Reno said to me as he looked at me.

"What's wrong with my outfit?" I asked.

"Nothing, you look great in it, but I can't help but think you bit off of Falco's style. I know he's a snazzy dresser, but the similarities are uncanny."

"Oh fuck you, Reno. He did put my blaster inside of this holder and you know I'm one of Corneria's most accurate shots."

"I know, but babe, get your own style next time." He kissed me on the lips.

"You two look damn good in those outfits." a voice said from behind us. Apparently we had forgotten to close the door and Wolf walked in on us.

"Thanks, Wolf, I have to say you look pretty snazzy yourself." Reno said to him. Wolf was outfitted in his Brawl ensemble just with red and black being the main colors.

"I'd allow you two love birds to go and soil these clothes I've beautifully crafted for you, but I hate to say that we're entering Katina Air Space. We'll be landing in the next few hours." Wolf said to us. "So don't ruin those clothes."

"Alright, alright." I said as I got up off of Reno. "You mind if we follow you to the control room? I've never actually been anywhere outside the Lylat System before, so I actually want to catch a glimpse of what Katina looked like from above."

"Fine with me." Wolf said as he exited the room. We followed him up to the control room. The huge planet of Katina could be seen from the large window.

"It's beautiful..." I said. Corneria was a lot of water, so looking at it gave it a rather blue hue. Katina is a lot of city and land, hence the green hue on the planet. It just felt surreal being able to travel from one planet to the next with relative ease.

"As beautiful as it is, Reiji. I won't be joining you down there." Wolf said.

"Huh? Why?" I asked. I thought he was supposed to be with us the whole time.

"I just received a distress signal from Team Star Fox. Ryan is in some deep shit and if they get him, we're fucked."

"It's understandable." Reno interrupted. "Ryan's problem is bigger than ours at the moment anyway, so go and help him. I have a lot of influence in this area anyway, so I'm sure that I could help Rei here and stuff."

"Thanks for understanding, Reno. Are you sure you're alright with me helping out Ryan, Rei?" He asked again.

"Yeah, as Reno said, his problem is much worse than this one at the moment and if two weeks can do anything, I'm sure that the Yakuza situation is under control over here. So we'll just do some investigation and you help him. Just be sure you get back here as fast as you can."

"Of course. These scars bound us for life. I'll know when you really need me."

I hugged Wolf pretty tightly. "Thanks..." I whispered to him.

"Now get out of here, you losers. Your Wolfen ships are ready to launch. You can use these to get around the planet."

We dashed to the Hangar. Just before we split off to go to our ships, Reno suddenly stopped me.

"What's up, Reno?" I asked him.

"I almost forgot to give you this. I know it's not much, but this is my gift to you. Each scale represents something on this. The two red ones represent us, and the other two represent Spike and Wolf. We're all connected in some way to each other. And like Wolf's scar, know that this will always protect you as well."

I kissed Reno on the lips. "Thanks. I love it."

We both ran to our ships and awaited the command from Wolf to take off. While I sat in the cockpit of our custom Wolfen ships, I looked at the scales attached to the necklace he had just given me. There were two black scales and two red ones. I suddenly heard Reno's voice through the communicator in the ship.

"Rei, the two black scales represent Reno and Wolf. We're your wall, and we protect the red scales on the inner part of the necklace, which represent Spike and yourself."

"I see." I replied.

Wolf's voice could then be heard from the communicator. "Take off in T-Minus 10 seconds. If you need anything, contact me. I'll do my best to get to you guys no matter where I'm at in the Lylat System."

"Thank you, Wolf."

10... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...

And our ships launched from the hangar. We were on a direct course to Katina. Our ships controlled very naturally. It was a lot easier to control than the Cornerian Air Force Arwings that they had issued me. Wolf really went all out for us on this mission.

We were approaching the rather green planet at a quick pace. I suddenly heard the radio go on.

"Rei, we're about to enter Katina Airspace. You ready to see where I've lived these past few years?" Reno asked.

"Of course. I've never been off Corneria before so this is exciting as hell." I replied.

"Isn't the view from up here lovely though?"

"Do you mean you or the planet?"

"Oh shut up, Rei."
