The doberman in this story, by the name of Erik, is under character right of Linkin Doberman.

The darkness engulfed corners of the room in silence as David tip-toed to his room. It proved to be difficult, as each plank of wood groaned underneath him. After trial and error, he had reached his room without waking the two canines nearby. His paw shut the door gently and he sighed in relief before striding over to his computer. A few minutes passed before his pants started to vibrate, he chuckled softly and pulled out his phone.

It was Erik.

"Hey, how r u?"

He smiled and texted back, "Ok, u?"

His screen flashed to life and he pulled up Myspace. The first thing his eyes crossed were thousands of hearts and cupids. The ferret nearly gagged and fell out of his chair. Panting on the ground, he slowly sat up and saw his phone do a little jig from the new text message.

"Good! How was your date?"

His pearly white teeth flashed after reading it. They switched on and off depending on how restricted on time they were. Grammar included.

"Mm...he's...not my type."

The ferret flicked his tail and scrolled down the page. Bitter growls left his lips as the bullitan was fillwed with love quizzes and poems.

"Gag me with a spoon...' He muttered, gripping his phone from the shaking.

"Your...'type'?"

"He was straight...too embarassed to actually think I was kidding. Poor guy!"

He shook his head and smiled before looking up at the screen. The ferret was torn from what he had done, and it seemed to be spreading through jealousy. All of his friends were with someone by this time of February. But he didn't care too much, after all he was alone in his last city.

"No way..."

He clicked on a link to Mark's journal entries.

"Must have forgotten to take me off as a friend to keep things personal...huh..."

-Today was simple, but will last in my heart forever. That troublesome ex I mentioned strayed away without so much a care. God I was so heartstruck!

"Bullshit!" He growled.

-But then Chad came back to me...he was so differant...so kind-

"Burn!"

-Loving...

"In!"

-And compassionate.

"Hell!"

He turned his head half expecting both wolves to be standing in their nightgowns from his frustration. The phone rumbled again and he flicked open the screen.

"Ah, too bad. Thought about joiing you two! ;) "

After sitting alone for a bit, he smiled and shut his computer off.

"Haha, well it will just be me and the lotion tonight!"

The ferret flicked his phone off and found a dark hole swollowing him. Valentine's Day was tomorrow. Sleep seemed to quickly swollow his thoughts in a blanket of remorse.

The school bell rang and David shut his locker, a piercing glare shot left and right. Couples held hands, kissed and smiled. For once, he actually wished the teachers would do something about it. In the pit of his stomach, he felt a churning sensation boil over from subsided anger and depression. He couldn't do shit! As he turned the hall, he blinked seeing Chad and Mark holding paws.

"...why..."

He thought, turning to take the long route.

"I crushed his love, he uses me, and I'm the one alone on Valentine's Day..."

"You deserved it." Nagged his voice.

"How?!"

"You dropped him...remember?"

"Yeah!...but...I-...you...an-fuck off..."

It was true and sad, David took a seat in his Algebra II class and awaited his punishment of hell and torture.

"Hell, hell, hell, hell-"

RIINNNGGG!

"Finally!"

He sprung up from his chair and almost ran to the door. He moved too quickly, running right into a wall and falling backword. Rubbing his head, he blushed and looked around before grabbing his stuff. A caramal paw reached down and helped him to his feet.

"Whoa! Heh, sorry David! Your were bookin' it!"

"Oh! Hey Erik. Didn't see ya."

The doberman flashed a smile that made the ferret glow slightly over the cold embers.

"You oughta run into me more often."

"Thought I hit a wall. It was just muscle."

He swollowed as the strong dog flung his backpack around his broad shoulders, "Where to?"

"Spanish I."

"Ah..."

David chuckled a bit, now almost forgetting all of his worries. He felt something for the dog. Of course, many other women and secretly men too did. Erik was the warm, well carved muscle fur that everyone wished to go out with.

"Tu no comprendes espanol?"

"Uh...si?"

They both laughed heartily and moved to the forign language hallway.

"Eck..." Grumbled Erik.

"Somethin' wrong?'

"Pink hearts, chocolate..."

"Single..."

"Yeah..."

They both scoff and mutter, "Valentine's Day..."

Blinking, David met eyes with the doberman's.

"Hey...uh...David?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you wanna...I dunno, hang out or something after school? I was thinking of dying my fur white."

The strong paw moved behind his neck, where the dyed red stripe began. It made his fur frizz up at the affectionate stroking, a blush crawled through his cheeks.

"I-I'd love too."

Classes slid by, the ferret waited anxiously for lunch to come. Finally, just as the bell rang, he lept from his chair and bounded for the forming line in the cafeteria. He had reason to be so giddy, it was Tomato Soup day. One of the few where it didn't taste like it was pre-heated in some giant ass microwave oven. That and a invite to the hunky doberman's house to dye his fur.

"Maybe Valentines Day won't be so ba-cookie!"

He reached out and took the soft free delight, but found it grasping a slightly thicker furred paw. Yanking it back, he muttered an apology.

"No problem, David."

The mixed green-blue eyes ran up to see a jackel grinning down to him. His heart suddenly thundered in his chest, eyes widining in shock. Chad only chuckled deeply to himself.

"Kitten got your tongue dude?"

"I-uh...h-hey..."

"Look like you got punched in the gut...somethin'...wrong?"

He leaned in and stared deeply to his eyes, it was cold and differant.

"N-n...n..-"

"Good."

Turning away, he grabbed the cookie and muttered, "Have a great day, man."

With the flick of his jet black tail, Chad left the ferret taking deep breaths. It was strage how he was already, but there wasn't the hasty bullying or obnoxious threats. In, out, gone without trouble.

"...must have gotten laid..." He blinked.

Soon, he found his friends. Luna the wolf, whom had helped him his very first day, as well as JC. JC was a panda and very gifted with her voice bursted out just as often as himself. He really didn't mind, they were fun and entirely differant from the stuck up 'daddy's girl' type around the school. Across from them was Vivi, Annabelle and Jon. each were just as fluently outgoing and creative. Last, Ashley, the albino Golden Retriever. Out of the group, Ashley was the least social, but a bit more to herself and down to earth.

"Hey IPAWD!" Cried the panther, Vivi.

Around her shoulders was the rabbit, Annabelle. The two were known around school as the only lesbian couple. It turned out that the group he met up with were the distanced onces who were mostly bi or gay. In the massive school, only about ten or twelve of the group had to go through dayly rituals of muttering and occasional ball of paper thrown at them. David never knew why he didn't just come out and say it, but he never told them. And they wondered why a 'straight' ferret would talk to the group.

Dispite this, they quickly grew close. David learned about each one of them and eventually hung out with the hyperactive bunch. They even had nicknames for each other, and his, was Ipawed.

"Heheh...Hey." He sat down and started eating. All in all, it was a good day.

The final bell rang and David put his back to the wall outside. Dispite seeing a few unwanted faces, the best part of the day was just starting. His ears flicked up and wiggles as a shiny green Mustang rolled into view. Erik grinned and stuck his head out, now wearing sunglasses.

"Hey!"

David smirked and rolled around before entering the car. It had taht newly-bought smell.

"Oh wow...nice car man..."

The dobie only chuckled to himself and pulled out of the lot.

"You sure that your parents won't mind?"

He shook his head and rolled down the window.

"I texted my 'father' earlier...they don't mind."

Erik pulled out of the road as the ferret's blonde headfur ruffled in the wind.

"Well great! So..."

"Yeah...white huh?"

He nodded, "Mhm."

"Why not keep your colors as they are?"

"I dunno...I just wanna try it."

"Ah, that's cool..."

He smiled to the dobie driver and watches as the rolling ladscape wizzed by. It was beautiful, out in the country as rows of corn flashed by continuously.

"Where do you live Erik?"

"Out a ways...almost there..."

As the car pulled in, David stared in awe as they pulled to the mansion. It was massive, holding at least fifty rooms and a fountain in front.

"Home sweet home..."

"Oh...my god..."

The doberman grinned, "Didn't expect that, ferretbutt?"

"Heh...n-no, not really."

Slowly, the two pulled in and got out. He would have been lost easily if it weren't for the fact that he held so close to the studly dog David could feel the heat radiating off of him. Eventually, Erik had led the ferret to his own personal room in the house. It was much like any other teen with alot of cash. Flatscreen, massive bed, surround sound.

"I had no idea..."

"Most don't...heh, don't talk alot about it."

"R-right...wow..." He whistled and looked around.

Erik grinned and picked the ferret up with his massive arms. David hardly believed what was happening, having almost fell out of the cradle of muscle.

"Whoa!"

"Hehe, your so cute."

The ferret's white cheeks started growing pink, "Nuh uh."

Erik turned to the bathroom and nosed him, "Yeah huh."

"Heh...so many questions..."

"Well, lets get started. Then while it's drying, I can answer them. Deal?" He set the soft ferret down on the toliet.

"Deal!" He smiled, wagging his red-striped tail.

"...what about your parents? Oop, stop twitching."

"It tickles! Heheh!"

"That's cause I'm at your underarm silly..."

"Fuzzy wuzzy ferret."

"Yah yah...avoiding the question!" He grinned, pointing the tube to the dog's nose.

"Ahh, yeah...they're out...like...alot. I don't care..." He muttered.

"Why? I mean I don't like mine a whole lot but...Mike can be pretty cool..."

"That's just it...I don't like either of them!" He growled.

By this time, over half of the doberman was coated pure white. And David had to say, it was very good on him.

"Why?...cause...they're not there for you?"

"No. It's not that..."

He tilted his head and Erik sighed.

"It's just...they're so strict on religion. I'm surprised I can go to public schools somedays..."

"Huh...so they're rich, religious and...protective?"

"I guess."

"Mmrr...well, your turning 18 soon right?"

"Yeah? Oh...heh...well..."

The ferret sat upright.

"...I thought about telling them...that..."

"Oh, I see..." His ears splayed.

"If I did, they wouldn't give me inheritence."

There was a long silence before David slid his paw to the doberman's, squeezing it.

"You'll have to choose to be happy or miserable..."

The dog whimpered slightly, "What would you do if you were me?"

He blinked before turning to see his eyes, "I'd follow my heart."

~Author Note~
