2 weeks after first infection... Fairfield, USA. Once a bustling hub of activity, now a ghost city, devoid of almost all sentient life. Ghostly shadows roam the streets, groaning and stumbling, making their way aimlessly in streets filled with abandoned cars. As far as the eye can see, all these figures are hostile, zombie-like infected humans and furs, citizens and soldiers, businessmen and homeless, who are now reduced to do nothing but walk around in confused patterns... Only in dark alleys, walking in the shadows, do you find some who are not infected. In one such alley, four figures carefully walk along, searching for a way out of this doomed city. Those four figures would not bring hope to many when facing an army of zombies, but those figures carry guns. Not simply hunting weapons, like a carbine, but shotguns, submachine guns and pistols. One of the figures raised a hand. "Hold up..." Alex stepped forward and kneeled to get a closer look to the rest of the corpse in front of them. The tiger clad in army clothes slipped a finger on it, and when he brought it up, it was covered in green slime. He frowned as he checked the texture and the smell. "Never seen anything like this before..." Another figure, a strong-looking wolf neko, gave a sigh as he watched the so-called survival expert. Damien never lost an opportunity of mocking his companions. "Jeez, don't let that stop you from smearing it all over yourself..." Alex stood up and gave a look of distaste to the silver-eyed neko, then wiped his hand on his jacket, all the while talking as if he was doing nothing. "They're changing." Damien looked over his jacket and quickly slapped the tiger's hand away. "Ah, dammit Alex!" An horrid scent quickly came to his nose, and he tried to wipe some of the smelly substance of his clothes. "Oh, it stinks!" The whole scene, so childish, especially in the place they were at the moment, brought a chuckle out from Tyzon, the black-as-night young dragon. At first glance, one would never think he was a fit with the two others, with his businessman style clothing, but considering the situation they were all in, nobody had the luxury of choosing his companion. Before anything else was said, a sound suddenly caused the four survivors to fall silent and listen... A soft girlish cry, coming from a nearby building, had caught their attention. The last member of the group, Crystal, stated what everybody was thinking at the moment. "Someone's still alive..." The silver-haired dragoness took a step forward to the nearest door and gently pushed it open. It creaked open, and the cry became louder, indicating that it did came from there. Crystal seriously stood out from the group, being the only woman, but also because the pistols she held didn't looked like they fit with her style, all cheerful-looking. But just like Tyzon, the outbreak caused her to become somebody else. Alex stepped forward with Crystal to look inside the building. It was pitch black inside, not a single light seen anywhere. He made sign of the head, pointing at the back of the room. "Over there..." Crystal nodded, then activated a flashlight attached to one of her pistol. She swept it around the room, attempting to locate the crying girl. "Hello..? Hello?" There was no answer. She had located where the sobbing girl was though, and had started approaching her, Alex in tow. She slowly raised the light, approaching it from her. "Its okay... We're gonna get..." A lightning bolt suddenly illuminated the inside of the room, and seeing what they were approaching, Alex quickly took Crystal's hand to lower it, using a low but pressing voice. "Lights... Off..." Crystal gave a surprised look to the tiger, but another lightning bolt allowed her to see why he had done this. The girl, who was still sobbing, was not one of them... She was atrociously pale, with dirty hair and blood-covered clothes, but the most striking features were the glowing blood-red eyes and the long claws on her hands. Claws that seemed longer than her arms, and that looked so sharp they could rip off someone's head with one swipe. Crystal and Alex both remained motionless, not wanting to draw attention from the crying girl. Outside, Tyzon and Damien were standing guard, waiting for the two others to come back. There weren't any sounds, and there were no movements... Until suddenly, Tyzon noticed growling sounds approaching... He squinted to see through the darkness and suddenly, a group of infected came in view, running at full speed toward them. "Shit..." Damien shot a few shotgun slugs in their direction, with not much effect at that distance while Tyzon ran to the door, flashlight in hand. "They're coming! They're..." His light hit the crying girl, who suddenly screeched, looking directly at the black dragon who immediately staggered at the sight. "What the..!" Crystal immediately stood up and ran to the door at the girl stood up, her glowing eyes locked on Tyzon. "RUN LIKE HELL!" Both she and Alex went outside, the tiger slamming the door behind him as both he and Tyzon pushed against it to keep it closed. There was loud crashing sound as the creature slammed into it, and a large bump appeared on it. Tyzon gave a sigh of relief, relief that was short lived as claws suddenly pierced the door right in front of his face, making him and Alex jump backward as they flailed about, trying to hit something. The dragon brought his submachine gun up and started shooting through the door, staying out of reach of the claws. But the girl wasn't their only concern. While Tyzon concentrated on taking her out, infected came from everywhere, running at surprisingly high speeds toward the group. The three other survivors stayed close to each other, shoving infected that were coming too close, shooting those that were at a distance. Alex had an easier time with his assault rifle, though Crystal was doing more than well with two pistols, and the wide spread of Damien's shotgun ripped the infected to shreds. Tyzon's yells of frustration came over the sound of gunfire as finally, the girl seemed to die under his fire. Damien shouted over his shoulder for the dragon to get back with the rest of the group. "Stick together!" In the chaos, nobody noticed the coughing sound that came from above. A long, slimy tongue-like tentacle suddenly wrapped itself around Alex's body, throwing him backward. The tiger went wide-eyed as he found himself lifted in the air. "Nooo!" Damien turned around, and looked up to see that what had catched the tiger was an infected. But just like the rests of the slime-covered corpse they had found earlier, and the girl that Tyzon had just dispatched, this one had mutated into something else. It had catched Alex with what seemed to be its tongue and was pulling him upwards to the balcony it was on. Without hesitation, Damien aimed toward it and shot. The thing seemed to explode and rejected a big puff of green smoke as it dropped Alex. Crystal gave a look behind, with a worried look in her eyes that was transmitted to her voice. "Guys..?" They were getting overwhelmed, only two to take care of the incoming mob. Damien helped Alex up, then exploded the head of an infected about to slash Alex. The neko turned toward the tiger with a grin. "Merry Christmas." He then went back to the others to help fend off the attack. Crystal, however, had other plans. At this rate, they'd get overwhelmed soon enough. She reached for her a belt to a small device. "Fire in the hole!" She threw the device, a small cylindrical pipe of metal. As she did, a small red light activated and started beeping. Beep. Every infected close by turned to see what was making that sound. Beep. Those that were standing immediately dashed for the device, those that were on the ground scrambled to their feet. Beep. Infected from all around the area swarmed over, trying to get that beeping device. Beep. They all started frantically slashing in the air, not knowing what was making this sound. Beep. The four survivors hid behind dumpsters and other objects as they waited for the inevitable... BOOM. The bomb exploded, decimating every infected that were around, making limbs fly everywhere. Most of the infected had been turned into a thin red mist by the explosion though, and only very little splashed around. The survivors went out of cover to look at the scene of the carnage, all sighing in relief. Their relief didn't last long. Suddenly, the sound of an helicopter passing overhead was heard. The four heads looked upwards just in time to see the chopper flying overhead. Immediately, Tyzon started yelling and running through the alley after it. "Hey! HEEEY! We're here! We're not infected! Down here!" Crystal tried to shout to get his attention, to have him stay with the group, but the dragon wouldn't listen and ran all the way to the street, not noticing the dark shadow looming over him, jumping from roof to roof. The helicopter was gone, leaving Tyzon alone in the middle of the street. "Dammit..." The shadow, holding itself on a wall, growled softly but threateningly as it looked at Tyzon. Suddenly, it screeched loudly, getting the survivor's attention. Tyzon turned to where the sound came from, only to feel like he had been hit by a train as the nimble, but extremely strong creature pounced him, slamming him to the ground. Without waiting, it started slashing violently at his chest with extremely sharp claws, screeching all the while Tyzon screamed for help. Thankfully for him, Crystal had been running after him, knowing that he was going to get ambushed by running away like that. She shoved the creature away, then started firing both pistol at it, riddling it with bullets. Still on the ground, Tyzon reached for a spare pistol on his belt, then aimed at his attacker. He shot once, twice, it was still not down. He shot again, hitting it square in the forehead and causing it to slam violently on the car behind... Activating its alarm. It went out loud, resonating through the entire neighborhood. Alex and Damien, who had just arrived, shook their heads, the tiger gritting his teeth. "Ah shit, this is gonna get bad..." And indeed, it went. Loud screeching sounds were heard, the voices of thousand of infected now running at full speed in the direction of the alarm, attracted to it like moths to a flame. the four survivors carefully walked in the street, trying to keep a vantage point of all direction... But looking at every direction, there were only infected. Climbing over fences, running down the street, jumping over cars, they were all focused on a single point; the four survivors who were still alive. At that point, all four of them thought many different things, as if certain their deaths were coming... Crystal was certain that by throwing her bomb earlier, she had now doomed them when they needed it the most. Tyzon cursed the owner of the car for having parked it at the worst place possible... At least for them since in a legal point of view, it was perfectly well parked. Alex gave grim looks around and noticeably stayed close to the dragoness. As for Damien... His eyes were locked on a silhouette down the street, noticeably larger than all the other infected running at them. There was a loud roar, and suddenly, a car was sent flying in their direction. It rolled a few times on the ground, squashing any infected unlucky enough to be in the way, then crashed in a fence nearby, causing the three other survivors to be startled. They all looked in the direction of where that car came from. They wished they didn't. The creature running at them had the largest arms one had ever seen. If the Hulk had taken steroids and became an undead, it would look like this. Growling loudly, smashing everything in its way, infected and objects alike, it was single-mindedly going toward the four survivors. Tyzon started slowly backing up and called for the others with a shaky voice. "Run, or shoot?" No answers from the group as the hulk-like creature got ever closer. From that distance, they could see that those arms were about everything on this body, its head hardly visible in that mountain of muscles. Tyzon's voice became increasingly panicked. "RUN OR SHOOT?" Alex finally reacted. "Both!" His command seemed to wake everyone up, and they all started shooting and running as fast as they could in another narrow alley mostly empty of infected. The huge creature went after them, using its arms to balance itself, just like a gorilla would, all the while smashing everything into the walls. Tyzon suddenly noticed a ladder, and looking up, saw that it led to a staircase going directly on top of a building. "Get to the roof!" The other survivors looked up, and without a word, they converged toward it. Damien turned back, motioning for the others to go ahead. "Go, go, go!" Crystal immediately jumped for the metal ladder leading upward as Alex and Tyzon shot the infected ahead who had now got up to attack the incoming survivors. Damien aimed his shotgun in the direction of the big creature, waiting for it to get around the corner. « Come on, come on!" The creature appeared, jumping around like an ape, and as Damien opened fire, it went directly for him, grabbing the body of an infected nearby and throwing it in his direction, causing the neko to stumble back, disoriented. The creature lifted up a huge fist, ready to crush Damien to a bloody pulp... Alex jumped forth, assault rifle blazing, and hit the creature in the head, causing it to stagger backwards in pain. It immediately tried to hit the tiger afterwards, but he was quick enough to jump backwards, and his fist only smashed into a wall, bursting through it. Tyzon, who had climbed the ladder after Crystal and was now halfway to the top, looked over at the scene, and saw the creature grab a large chunk of rock, which it threw... Directly at him. He yelped and quickly dashed upwards, the debris rolling down the stairs. The dragon immediately called to Damien, who was now climbing the ladder. "Heads up!" It was just in time too, the neko raised his head just in time to see the piece of concrete nearly hitting him, and he had the reflexes to lower his head. The rock passed over him and crashed to the ground. Alex gave a few more shots the large beast, then went for the ladder. But just as he turned toward it, he came face-to-face to another infected about to claw him. Before it did, its head suddenly exploded. Looking upwards, he saw Crystal, who was now nearly to the top and aiming down. "Go, I'll hold them off!" Her pistol shots were precise, and each shot took down a zombie that tried to claw Alex. Damien and Tyzon both reached the roof and watched as the larger creature jumped upwards, attempting to get the tiger. He grabbed the metal railing, which started breaking and falling apart under its weight, then tried to hit Alex again. The tiger was always one step ahead though, and evaded each of its swings, even as the staircase broke underneath him. He reached the top and jumped on the roof just in time before the stairs fell under him. The beast, however, didn't seemed to be finished yet, and it reached for the part that Crystal was on. The dragoness had lost time shooting the beast, foolishly thinking that she might stop it. She tried to get on the actual roof, but she was suddenly thrown back as the metal failed to support the creature's weight. The railing kept her from falling, but the impact caused her to drop a pistol. Quickly, she jumped back to the roof, but it was too far, and she found herself jumping down the building. A look of panic crossed her eyes as she tried to reach for something to keep her from falling. That something happened to be Damien's hand, who had leaned over the wall to grab the dragoness before she fell to her death. The four survivors heard a scream as the large infected fell, then a loud crash as the rest of the staircase fell on it. Then, silence. Damien pulled Crystal on the roof with the help of Tyzon, then they all sat down, panting at the effort they had just went through, waiting for the beating of their hearts to slow down to a reasonable level. Tyzon soon started laughing. "We made it... I... I can't believe we made it!" Alex interrupted him, looking at the street on the other side of the building. "Man, we only crossed the street..." The three others looked at him, the look of relief on their face slowly fading at the grim realization of what they had actually done. Alex spoke again with a sigh. "Its not going to be a party to actually get out of the city." The others joined him to look at what he was looking. Their morale plummeted to the ground. All over the street, hundreds... No, thousands of infected randomly roamed about, without any target to hunt down. The targets that had attracted them sitting on the roof just over them. The targets that now realized they might never get out of this hell.
