Chapter Five: Day of the Werecroc, Part One

"So why exactly are we in Seattle, Washington?" Molly asked as she looked around the skyline, they were walking down the street and the massive spire was standing in the distance as they looked around Molly tried to figure out what was going on. Koji and Twilight all looked at Jackson too trying to get another explanation out of the Orca as well.

"You know stuff; we're going to a filming of a show, a gift if you can say that. You know there hasn't been much activity from afternoon during the last few weeks, so we can take the pot off the burning for a few weeks as they say." Jackson said as he looked around avoiding eye contact and walking a bit forward starting to whistle as he walked down the street.

"You know, none of us believe that. How stupid do we look, you obviously have a lead on where Eric is heading and your following it, you stupid orca. You may be a bit smarter than us, barring Molly but we can see it." Twilight said as he ripped Jackson's argument to shreds. The orca looked forward and tried to keep his cool but he hated to know that Twilight was being right and he was wrong it bothered him so much.

"And maybe you're right, or maybe you're not either way, you have two days in Seattle, a city none of you have ever been and I'm not your babysitter, go and explore the city, or take up the mantle and stop some minor crimes." Jackson said as he tried to shoo off the whole group from himself and get alone. Koji made a look at Twilight and decided that it would be better for Jackson to go on alone than to drag them around.

"Whatever, go do your werecroc thing." Koji said as he decided to let Jackson do what he wanted to do. He didn't exactly not care about Jackson's plight but he was kind of tired of Jackson involving Eric into everything, welding every single case into finding Eric. Eric was completely safe and they just needed to relax, and if Jackson was willing to give him a day off, he would take it. "Come on Twilight."

Molly looked impressed with Koji's show of force as he took control from Jackson and walked away. Twilight walked and decided to follow Koji, knowing that Koji would enjoy his presence and Jackson would enjoy his lack thereof. They walked the opposite way going away from the spire and passing a Starbucks. Jackson shrugged his shoulders and looked for Molly who was walking towards the space needle. Jackson looked around and brought out a handheld device that looked sort-of like a modified hand labeler, with a spinning dish added for sci-fi fare.

He turned it on and followed it forward, before looking around his settings. Ignoring the beautiful and bountiful brown houses and instead looked on the empty street. He walked towards the street and as he stood in the middle of the street.

Jackson reached down and grabbed the manhole cover on the street, pulling it off and looking down into the dark sewer. He shined his DNA scanner into the hole, and used the light to view down. Seeing nothing he put his scanner into his mouth, holding it as he shimmied down into the sewer and put the manhole cover back over.

Jackson grabbed a flashlight from his coat and held it in his other hand. He shined it around and tried to find anything in the large sewer pipe. Under him there was a layer of moving water, and quickly moved out of the dirty water. He looked around and tried to figure out what was to happen. Jackson thought that the semi-cramped, semi-large sewer pipe would be a perfect place for a massive nine-foot muscular crocodile.

Jackson wasn't lying to himself; he was only in the small sewer, built to connect to the largest point of the sewer in the center of the city. Jackson looked at the DNA scanner and followed the blinking dot that would lead him to the werecrocodile. Above the sewer and in the city Twilight and Jackson were exploring the city.

"I just tired of Jackson trying to make everything a mission; I'm not being pigheaded am I. I just think that Jackson needs to take a break from this, it's not like I don't want to help, I just feel overwhelmed by this. Everything, everywhere, every time; it's all about Eric." Koji said venting to Twilight. "That doesn't make me a pighead? Or am I just overacting because this feels way too big."

"People just react differently to people's plights, Jackson just wants to find Eric and he wanted to do this alone, and he did give us a free day in Seattle, so in this sense you kind of are being pigheaded, but you know you should let it go and enjoy the day. Forgive Jackson when you get back and everything we'll go back to normal." Twilight said putting his hand on Koji's shoulder, and giving him some encouragement. All the good empowerment would help Koji stay on the good side when or if a choice came.

"Well then look at this, we can go to the science museum, the Pacific Science Center, which is right next to the space needle, so we apparently went in a big oval, how'd we even manage that?" Twilight said as he observed the large scientific center site. Koji looked around and was slightly bothered by all the people that seemed to be visiting the site.

"Well, I guess so." Koji said as he wanted to forget his troubles and enjoy something with a little science for once. He looked around and decided to go with the flow. He decided to accept the plot as it came and went into the museum. He followed Twilight as the excited shark ran into the building and received a bracelet for access.

They enjoyed the museum and found themselves in the IMAX Hologram room, looking at a planetarium presentation. The planet Earth was being projected above the circular theater, and slowly spinning around the center point.

"So we are a very amazing planet; and a very amazing race but even we haven't escaped the orbit of our planet. Right now the furthest point someone has been from Earth was during Apollo Twenty when the pod's boosters broke and the ship's orbit was put at 500KMs around the moon, barely staying in and barely returning." The presenter said as he showed off the moon and the pod traveling around the moon.

"Currently the furthest human away from the Earth, is the Phoenix Base Three, where scientists are investigating a mysterious gravity well around the asteroid and whether or not it is a threat to Earth kind. It's also the first with a massive biodome and water source." The presenter said as Twilight silently sighed and wiped sweat off his face.

"Other places of interest are Venus-Jupiter Satellite system, made of commutation systems carefully placed on Lagrange points and multiple Trojan asteroids, with it one could communicate at any point in the solar system without interference by Sun or Jupiter." The presenter said as she opened up a map of the solar system top down style and it highlighted multiple points around Earth's orbit showing where they were located.

"Good idea Twilight, I'm glad you picked this place." Koji said silently whispering to Twilight, giving him thanks as he showed his appreciation to the Kagen shark. Koji felt a cold breeze come over his body and shivered a bit. Twilight noticed and took off his hoodie, putting it over Koji; the jacket resized itself and warmed the shark.

"Yeah, pretty good didn't know that people knew about that asteroid, it was kind of prank made by one of the Kagens, to screw with you guys, but hey a gravity well could produce bountiful energy for the Earth. " Twilight said as he spoke quietly but less than Koji.

"That's a pretty good idea kid, I'm going to have to use that one day, gravity well for infinite energy. By the way my name's Mr. Copper." A man in a similar waistcoat said as he stood up and shuffled away. Koji looked at Twilight with an awkward look as he tried to figure out what that was.

"Yeah sometimes, I drop some knowledge that you guys haven't figured out yet and I might put the human race fifty years forward by giving a man the step he needs to take in order to make quantum computing go from 4 qubits, to a kiloqubit, don't worry no one will probably notice." Twilight said as he laughed to himself knowing how much he had changed the Earth.

"Yeah, well thanks for the hoodie." Koji said as he put his hand on Twilight's and held it. Twilight looked confused as he looked around at Koji, who was blushing. Koji laughed a bit and the younger shark leaned into Twilight. Koji snuggled against Twilight as he enjoyed the science show, he knew what he liked and Twilight was definitely one of them.

While Koji was pretty sure that Kagens had no sense of love or feelings, he could still enjoy the shark and drag him along his finger. Koji didn't mean it in a bad way, but Twilight was so nice and kind in such a way that he never felt, and when he was around the Kagen, he felt warm and fuzzy and wanted to just hug him forever, as if nothing could go wrong.

Molly looked around the top of the space needle, looking down at the city below her, she thought about how in the next few hours everything would change. She liked to think that with preparation she could prevent it, but with all the lives that would be lost, a million more would be safe from the Kagen threat.

She looked around the spire and at least she would familiarize herself with the layout of the building hopefully it would at least help with saving a few people. As she experimented with her Twilight memories, she realized that events played out the same, the you could say on the left or the right side of the stream but so long as you didn't exit the river and got on to the right point on the waterfall it be all right.

She looked around and she thought that she should at least eulogize the people that were going to die; she looked around and found a post card. She felt bad knowing that everyone around her was going to die and all for the want of a nail. In the few weeks previous she gotten used to knowing the future, it was a like a cool toy, to toy around with.

She grabbed a pen and put the postcard on the window, writing down her thoughts and feeling as she waited for the incident to happen, it would happen any moment know, when it happened all the shit would go down and the events would happen.

Molly wondered if she did have too much power, too much knowledge of the future for her own good. She needed to make sure that Koji's legacy happened and his destiny was assured. Twilight would train him but she needed to make sure this moment, that this point where everything could go wrong and she needed to make sure that they got it completely right and that the future would be saved.

She looked around and tried to hide the fact that she was kind of giddy for the moment, she could feel the people around and none of them had the idea of death in their minds, except for the one guy really close to the window. She felt guilty but she realized that her mind was going in circles. So Molly decided to wait, sit down, listen to thoughts and metaphorically lay down and think of England.

...

"Come on Eric, where are you; I need you back." Jackson said as he walked around the sewer, knocking the DNA scanner as the dot moved around the screen, making no sense or staying relative to Jackson. He looked around there was no way that Eric would be able to move as fast as the dot suggested, even with teleportation.

"Eric, come on out! Afternoon, I will find you and rip your soul out of Eric!" Jackson announced as he managed to keep the dot on the same spot for a few seconds. The orca walked forward and nearly hit his head against the transition. He stepped away from the dirty water flow and as he entered the largest part of the sewer.

Running perpendicular to the sewer pipe that he just exited all the water ran into one tunnel, with a river in a hollowed out center with two concrete platforms on the side. Jackson shined his flashlight down and briefly caught a shadow moving down the tunnel, before hiding in one of the pipes.

"Afternoon! I can see you, come on out and I might spare your life and let you return to the Kagen world!" Jackson said boasting as he put down his DNA scanner and instead had his hand on his holster. The shadow moved again, this time into a different pipe. Jackson shined his light towards it, he knew it had to Eric, he just could feel it.

"I will send you back to your own world, because you seem to want to play the monster and I am your slayer!" Jackson said as he pulled out his gun and pointed it forward. He looked around and waited for a few seconds, and as the shadow appeared again Jackson froze time. Jackson ran forward and intercepted the shadow.

He shined his light on it and as the light reflected off the large beast was revealed as the werecrocodile. Jackson tried to hold the werecrocodile, but even in his slowed down time mod he was easily knocked off the reptilian beast as it instead tried to get away from the orca.

"Eric, no don't run away we can help you still!" Jackson yelled as he thought that Eric was under control of Afternoon for once. Eric turned around and his eyes shined a dark red as suddenly Jackson realized that it was a trap for him. Eric moved towards him one step at a time and prepared to grab him.

"No, No, No; Eric snap out of it, please don't do this." Jackson said stuttering as he backed away from Eric. Jackson realized that he was alone and that no one was home. He paused and Eric grabbed him as Jackson realized that he needed to be captured by Afternoon.

"And the leader of the Outsiders is captured and brought to me." Afternoon said speaking through Eric. He fumbled with Jackson pants and pulled out a pair of handcuffs. Eric turned back into human and as he did, he slowly put the handcuffs on Jackson, trapping him with him.

"And the first part of my plan is brought into place and slowly but surely on the final day of the Outsiders, all the pieces shall be brought into place." Afternoon Eric said as he punched Jackson, knocking out the orca and preventing anymore intervention in his plan. He grabbed the orca by the handcuff chain and dragged him along though the sewer.

Afternoon laughed as he dragged the Orca down the sewer and got ready for his plans to fall in place.

...

"Well then Koji, I say that was a pretty good scientific experiment on quantum waves." Twilight said as they sat down at a table in a café, the only one in the city that wasn't turned into an annoying Starbucks. Koji grabbed the menu and looked down at it. A waitress in the traditional 50's costume came over and introduced herself to the group.

"Yes it was; a coffee please." Koji said as he ordered a drink from the waitress. HE continued to look at the menu as Twilight was instead focusing on something. "Twilight, what do you want?"

"Oh nothing, I already ate." Twilight said as the waitress sighed and walked away from the table to get Koji's order. He looked over Koji's shoulder and towards the back of the diner. "Koji, look behind you but don't make any eye contact."

"What?" Koji said as he raised his menu and turned his head. In the back of the diner, on one of the swiveling seats was a red and brown wolf, similar looking to Eric. If one wasn't blink they could say that the wolf was Eric. "Shit."

"Ok, here's what we're going to do, we going to walk over there, towards the bathroom and one of us is going to get a good look at his face, just follow my lead and once we get to the bathroom, we call Jackson." Twilight said as he stood up and walked towards the bathroom in the back of the diner.

Koji stood up, putting his menu down as he decided to follow Twilight, as they walked past Eric, Koji got a quickly look at his face, and turned his head back as he did realize that it was Eric, in the same diner. They knew that they needed to be careful and if they were they might be able to catch Eric.

Twilight walked in the bathroom, followed by Koji; as both of the sharks started to freak out. Twilight turned on the water in the bathroom, in order to get him some ammo. Koji brought out his phone and decided to inform Jackson, as the phone rang they were completely off put as a phone in the stall started to ring as well.

"No, it can." Koji said as he carefully walked over to the bathroom stall and slowly pulled open the ringing door. He made a sound akin to an awkward laugh as Koji moved aside to show Twilight the knocked out Jackson, comically sitting on the toilet with his phone ring.

"That's not good, that could mean that...." Twilight said before he was interrupted by the sound of the bathroom door, quickly and loudly opening. Eric stood there in his full glory with his dark red eyes shining just for Twilight to know who he was being controlled by.

"It's a trap; and hoo-hah, Twilight, My Twilight; how you and you mortal companion so easily tricked. Luckily I knew how much you hatted Starbucks, making this all too easy." Afternoon said pissing off Twilight, as he walked closer to both sharks. His body rippled and scales started to form on his head, his hair falling out and a long tongue forming. "Now then Twilight, let's play."

"Get back Koji, I'm about to go full power." Twilight said as he put his hand out towards the sink, squashing it mentally with his power, trying to get water before Eric completed his transformation. The sink busted out of its place and water flowed out and around Twilight as he spread it out and swirled it around his body, forming a vortex sphere of water.

The wind and the lights of the room flickered as Twilight took all the water vapor out of the room and around himself. Patrons in the café stood up and looked at situation happening in the bathroom, screaming and running around as they realized what was happening.

"Is this the best you have to offer Twilight, you were always the weakest, you kind the weakest, your power the weakest, your element the weakest, don't you get it Twilight." Afternoon said expecting a result, but Twilight gave none as he made the water sphere around him faster. "YOU ARE THE WEAKEST KAGEN ALIVE!"

Twilight, whose arms were around his side twirling the water around his body, took this at face value and reacted. He thrusted his arms forward and a torrent of water flooded forward, knocking the werecrocodile past the bathroom opening and into the café, as everyone not out was carried out by the torrent of water.

"No you don't get it, its takes time for water to work, I'm can go for years and never run out. Water slowly drains away at you, eroding you as it works for a million years until you are nothing and it truly shows it power by caring out you can the Earth." Twilight said as he swung his arms around like a conductor, pulling Eric around in his big werecrocodile body like a piece of form as he dragged him around the dinner along with all the coffee, equipment and dirty forks.

Twilight laughed and pushed his arms forward, pushing the water and Eric along with it up a wall again and the ceiling, which for Eric was barely a foot of the ground. Twilight squeezed his fingers and the water froze to the ceiling along with Eric, whose head he purposely left uncovered.

"You think I am worthless, than how come the last three times we have met, I have properly kicked your ass as they call it. You come with me with modifies beast, yet I come in the name of the Earth, defending it against the Kagen scum we are. There is no Kagen as powerful as me, as I am defender of the Earth, and that is what gives me my strength!" Twilight said as he squeezed the ice tighter with his hand, turning Eric back into his wolf form as he pushed against the crocodilian body.

"Hey Afternoon, when you are all dead you know what will happen, because the Kagens will survive in me! I'm Twilight, A Kagen who is kicking you ass, I'm more than a hundred thousand years old; and I'm the man who's going to end your life and save the nine billion people on this planet! Any problems with that?" Twilight said as he fully finished his boast, turning Afternoon/Eric back into a wolf and making him helpless on the ceiling.

"Ask your companion then, he should have seen your best and worst in this time; Riptide what do you think about this man presented to you?" Afternoon said smugly as he stalled for time nothing that he could manage to do so.

"I've seen Twilight and he is ancient, powerful, and mysterious. He is like a tornado, constantly working and he is everything this planet needs and he's wonderful." Koji said as delivered another boast on Twilight's behalf.

Eric struggled as he tried to escape his bonds and he did. He instead transformed into something else, quickly becoming a tiny mouse and escaping out of the ice, jumping out and quickly transforming back into a wolf and then a werecrocodile. Koji looked surprised as Twilight quickly tried to combat the man.

Koji interrupted and go in the way of Twilight, pushing him out of the way as he caught Eric's punch and absorbed it. He threw a punch with the same power, knocking the werecrocodile off guard with his own power. As he did so the werecroc grabbed him and Koji attempted to escape.

Twilight looked angry as the pipes in the building shook again. However Afternoon decided to give Koji back. He threw the shark like a football knocking Koji into Twilight and both of them in the ground, knocking them out. Eric grabbed both of them and ducked under the bathroom door and then grabbed Jackson.

Afternoon quickly jumped up and exited the building through the roof and headed back towards the Seattle Space Needle, knocking that the last of this targets was there and their his plans to end Twilight would start and finish. As he dragged them, he put Twilight down and grabbed the black book out of Twilight's jacket. He looked at it, acknowledging its power and continued on his path forward.

...

"Wakey, Wakey, Outsiders..." Koji drifted back into the land of the awake. He looked around at the open blue sky, clouds drifting around Seattle. Koji thought it was nice that for once it didn't rain in their Seattle and they were given the one dry day of the year. Koji put his hand on the ground and felt the cold touch of metal.

He pushed against the metal and instead of getting the look of a million Starbucks, the blue sky continued as a wind blew on his body. It felt cold and the air felt a bit thin. Koji had a realization as he looked around and the puzzle pieces connected. He realized that he was on top of the space needle.

He stood up and looked around; Twilight and Jackson were waking up. For some reason Molly was already their engaging in a mental battle with Afternoon, who looked severely damaged with a massive burned handprint on his face. Koji nearly had a heart attack as he realized that Afternoon was standing right in front of them in the flesh.

Koji looked around and Molly seemed to be distracting him, Koji knew what he had to do and he quickly ran over to Twilight and shook his body as he tried to wake him up and get him to join the party. Koji looked at Afternoon and saw the black book in the burnt wolf's hand.

"Shit, Shit, Shit Twilight wake up! Afternoon is here in the human world, as in here in the flesh!" Koji said as he shook the shark, and as he turned back towards Afternoon both the wolf and the werecrocodile laughed. Twilight shrugged a bit and woke up as he comprehended the words.

"No, you I thought you were trapped in the Kagen world." Twilight reached for his pocket and his face soured as he realized that he was missing the black book.

"You little fuc... No this was my fault, I should have used quantum protection on the book or something; I'm sorry Koji, I didn't train you enough, we're dead." Twilight realized that he was going to die a horrible and painful death for his sins against the Kagen Empire. Afternoon laughed at him pointing a finger as he was able to make a boast by just living there.

"Fear me Twilight, I've killed hundreds of Energywalkers." Afternoon boasted as the situation seemed at its worst.

"Fear me, I killed them all." Twilight said to himself as he stood up and prepared for battle.

"Eric, come on snap out of it, I know your still there, don't give up I'll get you out of their!" Jackson said repeating the same old song and dance with Eric as he tried to get the crocodile back on his side. Koji and Twilight groaned as Molly stopped her mental battle with Afternoon.

"Well then we are here, one battle Twilight against Afternoon; why don't we see who will win. You can't transform any of us and you only have Eric, while I have a whole team." Twilight said as he boasted again.

"If you two can stop comparing for a second, maybe we can beat up Afternoon and free Eric." Jackson said as he pushed Twilight out of the way and stood to face Afternoon. "Now then, give us back Eric and we might just forgive you."

"No, I think we might just not have that. In fact I feel that some renovations need to happen to your team, readjust the gender ratio." Afternoon said as he put his hand forward and then suddenly Molly's body glowed yellow.

"In this world I handle two transformations, maybe more, maybe a million." Afternoon said as he engulfed Molly in his aura. The bird tried to escape and mover her mouth but found herself failing as she tried. "Now then say goodbye to your birdy."

"No, don't you dare. I swear I will kill you." Jackson said threating as Koji and Twilight looked gasped. Koji tried to move towards Molly but for every step he did, she moved back another step. Koji paused as he realized that Molly would have needed to save herself.

"No it can't this horrible, she needs to save herself, we can't do anything." Koji said as he realized that the worst was going to happen. He grabbed Twilight's shoulder and started to cry. "You have to save her, you have to."

"I can't there's no water; there's no water vapor; if only it rained today. Jackson do something!" Twilight yelled as the orca started to run at her, slowing time down as he reacted. He reached his hand out and Afternoon as Molly reacted as she grabbed his hand and instead twisted him around. She pushed him back and she fell back, waving as Afternoon dammed her.

"NOOOO!" Koji yelled as he ran towards the edge, looking at her fall knowing that she was about to die. He closed his eyes and started to sob as he realized that he couldn't save Molly. Twilight put a hand on Koji's back and rubbed it as he realized that he might have sent Molly to her death.

"Don't turn your back on me; this fight is far from over." Afternoon said as he turned around and faced the werecrocodile. "You've killed an innocent person, and now you're going to pay, I am going to shove so much water up yours that you're going to explode!" Twilight said as he walked over to Afternoon, who was laughing at him.

"Werecroc attack!" Afternoon said as Eric ran forward along the Needle, going towards Twilight. Jackson looked as Twilight grabbed Eric's hand and started to push him back. Afternoon as Eric had no problem with this and started to push him towards the edge.

Jackson noticed and pushed against Twilight; Koji stopped sobbing and ran over to trying to prevent another death in the team. Afternoon had an idea and instead Eric stopped and was pushed back. Afternoon laughed again and Eric jumped up; slamming his body down in the Needle.

"No, no, that is not good." Twilight said as the needle started to shake. People started to scream; as Eric's body mass caused the needle to crumble. The tower started to wobble as Afternoon continued to do his stupid laugh. Koji realized that the Outsiders were over, as the massive space needle started to fall they would all die.
