Chapter Four: Nick Ruby's Demons

"Come on, Nick just give us a list of all your bunkers and we might just be able to get the judge to cut you from a life sentence down to sixty years, and think of all the green pastures you're missing out on." Jackson said as he interrogated Nick Ruby from his own person jail cell. Molly was with him as well, she was playing the good cop, subliminally implanting images into his head to help them with their goal.

In the Las Vegas County Jail, they were in the supervillain cell, protected with all the security features they could afford. Two steel plated walls separated the room, and it was completely air tight, from the moment the two large bank vault doors closed, an air filtration system would keep the oxygen replenished. No one could break in or break out of the prison.

Jackson and Molly were sitting down at a table in front of the large, thick steel bars behind a powerful forcefield. They could sit down and have a nice conversation with Nick Ruby for awhile. They were currently trying to find out the location of one of his bunkers, Twilight and Koji were searching the city with an underground scanner in hopes of finding it before they got the information and had to cut him a deal.

"Now then you don't have many choices, you're trapped here in this escape-proof jail and their is no possible way you can escape. Think of this wonderful world, we don't think you're a bad man, you just need help and we're willing to give you the help you need." Molly said as she thought of all the nicest pictures of the world she had and sent them into Nick's mind. She knew that he would have a hard time believing the images she sent to him but she could at least try.

"You don't get it, I have a massive criminal underground ready to rise up and break every prisoner out of this jail, and there is nothing you can do to stop it." Nick said as he placed his hands on the forcefield creating a vibration along the field. He had a smile on his face and Molly could figure out what he was possibly thinking, his mind was all over the place.

"What does he know?" Jackson asked Molly as she tried to get a mental fix on his process. She looked confused and started to act dizzy, she stood up pushing the chair out of the way as her eyes turned blood red. She started to run wildly as something invaded her mind, she ran right into the forcefield and got knocked off, flying into the back wall of the prison.

"You son of a bitch!" Jackson said as he stood up pulling his pistol out and pointing it at Nick, who was laughing almost sadistically as he watched Molly get knocked out on the floor. He cocked his gun and pointed it at the forcefield, "This close, a bullet will break the forcefield and go right into your head, so if you don't tell me where those bunkers are..."

"Sorry, but you need me for those bunkers, kill me and you lose that, I just hope Riptide, and his friend can get to my bunker before we do, Quickshot, I just hope your friend, Mental View, god where do you come up with these, can get up before Agent arrives." Ruby said speaking in their code names of course, they didn't give out their real names for obvious reasons. Jackson looked confused as he tried to figure out what Nick meant.

"Agent, that's no. Their is no way even a were-crocodile could break through those walls, two steel plate walls, nothing can melt them their specially plated to be explosion, jet fuel, and even bend resistant, I'd like to see you try." Jackson said practically daring Nick at this point, "In fact let's ask the security stationed behind your wall?"

Jackson walked back, keeping his gun pointed at Nick. He reached down, without moving his eyes and grabbed a walkie-talkie from the table. He held it up to his face and clicked down the button. The static stopped and the walkie released its signal to its pair.

"Hello, security if you may please tell me how strong do those two steel plated walls are behind you?" Jackson asked into the walkie talkie, he held it up making sure that he held it up in order that Nick could completely hear what they say. For a few seconds it was static, and for the few after that it was static as well.

Jackson's face slowly turned to a confused frown as he tried to prove his point to Nick. He waited a few seconds, before he pulled it back to his face and clicked the button again. While he did Nick continued his smug face as always, waiting for Jackson to be proved wrong.

"This is Quickshot again, what's happening, I kind of have a point to get proved, so over again. How strong are those two walls behind you?" Jackson said as his ego was slowly wore away and hoped that nothing bad was happening. He looked at Molly and she looked like she was recovering, he probably should have helped her but he needed to prove himself right, she be alright in the end anyway.

The static on the talkie flickered and then suddenly a voice intercut, all while Nick's smug smile only increased and Jackson felt his ego melt away.

"Help! Call security, there's something out there. I coming for me, it killed everyone else! Hellllp!" Suddenly the call switched back to static and Jackson's ego was shattered, he sat down and looked around. He felt destroyed and then he realized something, those two were different threats.

"How do you know the werecrocodile, what else do you know?" Jackson stood up and continued pointing the gun, hoping that Afternoon was inside Nick and hopefully he could kill the bitch before he went back to the Kagen world. He looked around and tried to figure out what was happening.

"I am not Afternoon, but he can tell me and trust me, I've been expecting this for a while, and by that I mean the last three days. You can't get to me, and while I can't get to you, I don't need to because I have the upper hand here." Nick Ruby said as his eyes glowed red, showing the influence of Afternoon.

Behind the wall, the plating started to bend and Jackson realized that he fucked up. He looked around the room and tried to see if their was anything that he could do, there would be no way to let security know what was happening for at least a minute because that would be how long it would take to open the first door and started opening the second and there was no alert button.

Jackson realized that he was defeated and he walked over to Molly still on the floor and picked her up. She look up and looked at Nick Ruby and then Jackson. Jackson nodded and walked over to the door, pressing the button and starting the process. He had no idea on what to do and he needed to do something, he was forcefully being taken by Nick's plot.

"No this can't happen, this is completely impossible. We've been beat, Molly, we've been beat." Jackson said as he planted his head against the floor and started to bang it in defeat. Behind them Eric was ripping open the wall, NIck laughing to push in the point to Jackson, mocking him.

"I'm sorry, we can't oh, haha, wait just a moment, you should have gotten me up a minute earlier, better hurry up Eric, because guards will be over your ass like something, I don't know I'm not good with these metaphors." Molly said as she put her hands on her hand, and transmitted a message into the mind of the nearest guard. She hoped it would work as the slowly opening first door was taking it sweet time.

"And Eric's here as well." Jackson said as the werecrocodile pulled the walls open and the massive reptilian beast grabbed Nick Ruby by the hand as the wolf mocked them through the prison, they couldn't do anything about it and they felt a bit useless. Eric roared as if acknowledging they where their and Jackson simply leaned against the wall and gave a simple wave to his old boyfriend.

The werecroc, took Ruby with him and exited back through the hole and into the freedom of the outside and all of sudden the tables were turned on the group. Suddenly they were the ones who were trapped, who didn't have freedom and who couldn't do anything. Molly squished her way through the first door and started to open the second. The sound of gunfire gave hope to Jackson that Eric and Ruby were at least being slowed down.

Molly started the process and as the door opened she gasped. She ran back over to Jackson in shock as she tried to comprehend outside. He looked bewildered as he took a peek and saw the prison.

Outside of the doors, Prisoners were going wild and rioting outside, beating up guards and taking over the prison. However, more concerning was the three thugs standing outside of the door and pointing their guns at them. Molly almost looked like she was going to collapse from the pressure.

"Oh, god all that hate out there, it's a trap, we were played like a, like a, like a, I don't know but he has the entire prison around his stupid wolf finger!" Molly said as she nearly went into a mental breakdown "I haven't seen this, I have no idea what's happening this can't happen, we can't die here."

Jackson looked at Molly and knew he has to help her first, he walked over to her side and hugged her as he started to stroke her hair.

"It's ok, focus on my head, take some one my belief in you and know that we can do this, we can do this." Jackson said as he embraced her, as the door opened wider, he hid them behind the door as to protect Molly. He knew she couldn't handle big situations but this must have been bad if it didn't compare to her visions.

The thugs rushed in and Jackson reacted. He quickly stood up and slowed time, he jumped off the edge of the door and as he gained height he pushed himself off the wall. Molly looked at him in normal speed and Jackson landed on the first guy before pushing himself into the other two guards and out of the door.

"Come on Molly, that was the first part follow me!" Jackson said as he saw the toucan wipe off her tears and follow him. Luckily as it seemed none of the prisoners saw him. Jackson took Molly's hand and they started to run towards the prison exit.

"Look at this Koji." Twilight said as he put his perception coat over his waistcoat, doing a spin to show off the whole 360. Koji saw and laughed at bit at Twilight as he showed off. They were right above one of Ruby's many, many bunkers and they were trying to see if they could find one that still had mainframe access, and gain some information.

Koji put his hand on door and he pulled it back as the heat coming off the door nearly burnt his hand. He grabbed some gloves out of his pocket and placed them over his hands. He grabbed the vault doors and pulled the door open. Koji stood out of the way as steam flew out of the vault, releasing pressure from the bunker but leaving a layer of steam in the bunker.

"Twilight, pull the steam out of here, see if you can get the heat out of their too." Koji commanded as he looked around the bunker, trying to see inside but the stream and heat blocked him. The Kagen shark stood in front of the vault and put his hands forward. The steam started to flow towards Twilight's hands, turning into floating water as he used his powers to forcefully make the water change state.

"Good, now about your outfit, how can you wear something so thick and warm, I cannot see you without thinking your going to combust because of all the heat you're going to keep." Koji said as he walked down into the now cool bunker, looking around and trying to locate the mainframe access.

"Well, I don't feel warmth or coolness, my body regulates heat by expelling it, a side effect of my control over the phases, other Kagens have that ability, some are pretty cool if only they were all evil." Twilight said as he walked to the wall and switched on the lights of the bunker. He looked around, it was the standard Ruby bunker. Luckily Ruby stayed in prison for the last week, but if he dared to put a bad finger on Koji, he would beat the wolf senseless.

Twilight couldn't understand why Ruby was so obsessed with Koji, he was practically a stalker with a personal army ready to track down Koji. Koji was special but their would be no why that the wolf could know how to truly use Koji's powers nor have the technology to harvest it. He looked around the bunker and didn't see any equipment relating to that kind of work.

"Find the mainframe?" Twilight said as he searched around the bunker. It was nice and circular, keeping everything organized on desks around the bunker. He wished that he could have seen into the bunkers before coming to Earth but at least he kept himself up with the times, by watching TV from living room views or the internet.

"Right here." Koji said as he reached into his backpack on the table and pulled out a flash drive and a tablet. He turned on the tablet and connected it to the mainframe. The flashdrive emulated the operating system of Ruby's mainframe and he brought up a file explorer as he searched through the mainframe.

The tablet would download all the files as he searched through them looking for proof of anything. He found a strange folder, designated Riptide. He clicked the file and it appeared to be a series of data graphs that they could explore when they got when they got back to the base. He swiped down and clicked the first non data file.

Koji waited as the file opened and he began to read the the file, "As it appears the shark known as Riptide, is an e...", Koji suddenly felt a gun pushed up against his back and he gasped. He put down the tablet and looked around him.

"Ruby sir, we have found Riptide and the Kagen." The thug said as he reached around Koji, and slapped handcuffs to prevent Koji from escaping. He then grabbed a pair of gloves and placed them around Koji, for some reason when his hands were blocked Koji couldn't conduct energy. "Now then RIptide, stay still and don't escape and this will all go ok."

Twilight suddenly moved taking the water he had from the steam, he sliced it back and turned it into a ice sphere sending it through the man pointing a gun on his back. The ice flew backwards and into the body of the other guy in the bunker. After slicing the man in half, it hit Koji's handcuffs and broke them. Koji took a breath as he pushed the guy off his body and on the ground.

Koji reached up and grabbed the piece of ice, quickly absorbing the cold and melting it back into water. With the cold energy from Twilight's, Koji walked over to the entrance of bunker and looked out into the outside. The Kagen shark took back his water and refroze it this time around his fist, so that he could give a special punch to the thugs.

"How do they know we're here?" Twilight asked as he looked out of the bunker and tried to figure out what was happening. In his mind it had to be Ruby who sent the thugs with him and wanted to capture them. Koji put that together already but only because he was used to being kidnapped by Ruby. However in his mind he put together the fact that Jackson and Molly were interrogating Ruby.

"Jackson, Molly, we need to get to the county prison." Koji said as he grabbed Twilight by the hand and started to pull him. Looking outside of the bunker, KOji walked out into the hot, beating Las Vegas sun and saw no other thugs. Ruby must have foolishly thought that Twilight would have gone easily like Koji, which spoke quite a bit about all three of them.

"In the van." Koji said as he ran over to their outsider's van. Like a majority of Ruby's bunker, the one they were located at was outside the city walls. Fortunately, so was the prison, because who would logically have a prison inside city limits, that would be a stupid idea. Koji looked around and turned on the van, as Twilight couldn't legally or physically drive, so Koji would have to do.

Looking round Koji put the car into gear and accelerated forward on the street, going towards what he thought the prison was located. Behind him two black sports cars drove up to behind the van and started to follow Koji as he drove towards the prison. It didn't take him long to figure out they were chasing him.

"I would at this point like to admit, have no experience in defensive driving besides going forward on a line, so maybe it'd be safer for all of us to just pull over." Koji said as he took his foot off the accelerator and started to slow down pulling himself over to the sidewalk and stopping. To his surprise, the two cars chasing him flew past him towards the prison.

"Koji, I think that might have been a cop car, but good you're supposed to pull over for those anyways." Twilight said as he gave Koji a pat on the back and looked in the mirror. He then saw another set of white cars pull up besides them, quickly blocking them in as one went on the sidewalk and blocked Twilight from getting out and another blocked Koji from getting out.

"Then again, continuing to drive might have just been a better option in this case because now we are really captured." Twilight said as he raised his hands, as the two thugs in each of the cars pointed a gun at them through the window.

Koji sighed as he realized that he just got himself captured and now he needed to deal with the consequences that the situation cause. One of thugs opened the back door and slapped handcuffs on Koji again as he realized what he had did again. Just like always he got himself captured by one of Ruby's men.

...

"Well then, well then Koji look who's decided to crawl all the way back to me, good job on killing my thugs I didn't know you had it in you, or maybe it was your friend, keeping your innocence, have you ever killed someone?" Nick Ruby said as he looked at Koji, being hung against a large steel plate with metal cuffs. Ruby put his hand on Koji's face stroking it as he purposely screwed with Twilight, who looked like he was steaming.

"Now then your friends, they didn't get through the prison and here they are." Ruby said as another metal plate was dragged into the warehouse, with Molly and Jackson being forcefully restricted over the warehouse floor. Molly tried to get someone to defect and free them, but every time she did so Afternoon bounced the thought back into her mind.

"Oh great look at you we're back in the peanut section, Koji we need to do something about him." Jackson said as he looked where he was, with the armed guards and the overly sexual wolf. "Now then Ruby, good to see you as well, if you may please let us go?"

Ruby pondered the question for a second before his head sagged down and his eyes were hidden. Twilight realized what was happening as he felt the transmission waves around him. Ruby's eyes glowed dark red and their was a dark aura around him. The wolf was know being used as a vessel for Afternoon's voice.

"Hello Twilight, a week and you starting to become more and more like these stupid animals, playing in their own poop as they fail to look above and worship their true gods." Afternoon said as he spoke through Ruby, his voice deeper and his movements more erratic. He looked around at the force that he had to command. "I could execute all of you right now, command the guards around me to fire and yet I don't because I need you back into the Kagen world to absorb your power."

"What do you mean, what are you talking about you don't make sense, why would you want Twilight's powers?" Molly asked causing Ruby to turn his head towards the bird, looking at her as he processed her question.

"Quite simple bird, two Kagen powers are better than one, turns out the black books can do more than even Twilight, knew, but as it seems their are a set of tablets that give this information and I have them all." Afternoon said as he laughed evilly, sounding distorted through Ruby's body. The possessed wolf walked over to Koji and stroked him on the face, before suddenly slapping him on the face, angering Twilight.

"You leave him alone, his race has nothing to do with this!" Twilight yelled as Koji recovered. Fortunately Afternoon seemed to have equally pissed off NIck Ruby, in his actions as well and Ruby took control as his eyes returned to normal. "Oh, your back well then, you forgot one thing Afternoon, never leave me with water."

"What?" Nick said as he looked around the warehouse, suddenly Twilight spit and he started to control the water in his salva, using his fingers to control and force the water into a circle. Spinning it around the chains and freeing himself, Twilight sent his spit out to the others freeing Koji and then Molly and Jackson.

Koji ran over to Ruby and instead of punching the wolf, he instead placed his hand on the wolf's face. Twilight looked as he tried to figure out what Koji was doing, he had never seen one like him move like that. He had to be adapting his powers for the situation, no longer were they peaceful they were now the war beasts that the Kagens said they could be.

"Ruby, I know you love me but that is tainted love and I need to get away; Afternoon is too strong a force for you to deal with, you need to die." Koji said as tears ran out of his eyes and he knew his games were over. He and Ruby had gotten too big. He activated his powers on Ruby, but instead of letting energy go, he absorbed it.

Koji felt horrible as he absorbed the energy of Ruby, his face and skin and bones all turning frail as Koji, took in the energy that held them together. He had never done it before and it felt horrible, he could feel the life slipping out of Ruby as tears fell down his face. Ruby's face crumbled and he fell to the ground as Koji fell to the ground and started to cry.

Everyone looked shocked at Koji crumbling Ruby's body, they never knew that the shark could do something so shock inspiring. Molly covered her mouth as she saw the vision, of Koji losing his innocence and falling to the ground. She knew what happened next and she quickly grabbed Jackson and Twilight, before pulling them back behind the metal plates.

"What the hell is happening to Koji?" Jackson asked as he ducked behind the steel plates. Behind them air was rushing away from Koji as he laid on the ground his body shaking on the floor as his body was flooded with energy. Molly tried to get a fix on his mind but found it impossible.

"His powers, he never used them to his full potential because his powers are so powerful, so unstable that he needs years of training to understand and figure them out!" Twilight yelled as the sound of energy being expelled from Koji, suddenly became louder than a talking voice. They all braced as Koji screamed and laid flat on the floor.

An energy blast wave was sent out from Koji, knocking down the goons in the warehouse and releasing everything in Koji's body. The Outsiders braced as he the wave hit the steel wave and luckily they were spared from the wave and they could focus on Koji's problem.

"He wasn't supposed to be able to do that, he learning skills too quickly, his body can't handle that kind of energy. Koji can't, won't, shouldn't remember, his brain overloaded. He needs to learn about his powers at his own pace, this is why I am here." Twilight explained as he dropped some serious technobabble on them.

"Koji is going to be fine, right?" Jackson said as he ran over to Koji and started to shake him. He felt the top of his forehead and he felt like he had a bit of a fever. Jackson calmed down as it didn't seem that their was anything wrong with Koji. He put his hand on on Koji's chest and felt around. "Both hearts are working."

"Two hearts, I didn't notice that, I only have one, is their anything else that he has two off?" Twilight said getting a look from Jackson, "Sorry nevermind that, Koji is going to be just fine. He just had a big burp to say, taking all the stuff he didn't get out and releasing it."

Twilight look around and didn't see Eric anywhere, Afternoon must have took control of the the werecroc and left. He thought about what that meant. "Afternoon knows what he's dealing with now, he going to leave us alone for a while but when he comes back we have to ready."

"And Eric." Molly said as she tried again and failed to get a lock on Koji's mind, she didn't know that Twilight just thought about him, but it would be good to share the info.

"He too will be dormant, he'll probably go and curl up in a cave or something. Now then Jackson you grab the shoulders, and I'll get the legs. Molly go find a vehicle, so we can get back to base this is one hell of mess to clean up."

As Twilight moved Koji to the car, he tried to right off what happened as a happy, ok sad accident but he couldn't figure out how Koji would know to do that. He was advancing too far quickly and if he didn't put Koji on the right path he might destroy the whole universe.
