The Bite (Part 1)

This was one of my earlier attempts at MegaMorphics, and I've learned since then that it's not a good idea to work on serials through the APA. It's really best to do one and dones, just so you don't have such a long gap between parts and you actually finish the story you've started. >.>

Still, I really love this idea and I'm definitely returning to it at some point. I just need to outline things ahead of time.

Aaron is a rather large horse who is caught down the wrong deserted street on the wrong night, and has an encounter that changes the course of his life. Part 1 of 3 in an unfinished story.

Aaron was a fairly big guy, but even he knew better than to be caught in this neighborhood at night. It seemed like most of the street lights were burned out or broken, any cars that lined the curb were up on blocks or two dilapidated to steal, and the buildings looming on either side of him were mostly boarded. The night was moonless and dark. The air was quiet but charged. The horse knew he was being watched, and silently cursed himself for getting into this situation in the first place.

It was just one of those nights. He was persuaded to try out a new dive bar by some work friends and it turned out to be surprisingly fun. Even if he had a car, he would have been too drunk to drive by the time it closed. If he hurried he might have been able to take the last subway car back to his apartment across town. Fifteen minutes of drunken stumbling later he found himself in a place he didn't recognize. Trying to retrace his steps just made things worse and now, twenty minutes later, he was hopelessly lost. The last subway had left a quarter-hour ago. The busses wouldn't be starting for another four hours. His only hope was to call a cab company that took credit cards.

It was that last part that was tricky. He'd been walking for three blocks and had only seen two public phones, both of which had been vandalized beyond repair. If the next one coming up was busted too, he would probably just try to find the nearest busy street and see if he could flag something down. No telling where that was, though.

The horse clopped up to the next phone booth and leaned down to pick up the receiver. It, like just about everything else, was made for someone about a foot shorter than he was. He held the phone up to his ear and fed the quarters with easy, practiced motions. He carefully dialed the number of a cab company he'd memorized and listened for the dial tone with one ear. The other swivelled, trying to catch any sounds that might give him a second's warning about an ambush.

The phone rang three times before someone picked up. Aaron could hear some sort of static on the line immediately.

"Lucky Cab, how --- I --- lp you?"

"Uh, yeah. Can I get a cab to come pick me up?"

"Wha- --d'you s---?"

"I need a cab. To come pick me up." Aaron spoke louder into the receiver, rubbing his muzzle with a couple of thick fingers. Now that the alcohol was wearing off he could feel how cold it was. His limbs were starting to feel heavy with his exhaustion.

"Yeah, OK Mac. Whe-- -- ---- t'-- -- pick-- uh--?"

"Sorry?" Aaron flicked his free ear back to block out the ambient noise. The poor reception was kind of ridiculous, but it wasn't like much else had gone right in the past hour or so.

"Where. Are. You?" The voice on the other end spoke slowly and loudly. The annoyance Aaron felt was reflected right back at him.

The horse looked around for a moment before ducking back under the phone booth. What were the last cross streets he saw? He swam for the names through the murky haze of sleepiness and alcohol. "Uhm. Corner of Brisfield and Vye."

A bunch of static was his response. He thought he heard a split-second of a vowel from the other end, but beyond that, nothing.

"Hello?" Aaron felt his temper beginning to rise. Piece of shit phone. "Hello??"

He never saw the figure leap out of the shadows. It crept quietly to the middle of the street, skittered the rest of the way and attacked him from behind a car. Aaron whinnied, frightened, as he felt a significant weight land on his hunched back and wicked claws slice the thin cotton of his hoodie. Before he knew what was happening he was pulled from the phone booth and a set of sharp teeth clamped down on his shoulder.

"Hello?" The voice on the other end could be heard clearly for once as Aaron toppled onto his back. His assailant's teeth sunk into the flesh of his shoulder even deeper before letting go. The horse's weight must have knocked the wind out of the person behind him, but it would only be stunned for a few seconds. He rolled to his side, his head striking a car, and stumbled to his hooves. His shoulder was burning. He could feel something dripping into his fur. The shirt underneath his hoodie was matted around the wound.

The figure rolled for him after a couple of seconds, fangs bared. In the low light, Aaron only noticed a flash of scale. The color was washed out by the yellow-orange of the lamp. The creature was upon him with disturbing speed, its weight pinning his arm to the car behind him. It hissed and bit down into his forearm.

Besides the shock of pain, there was a burning sensation where the attacker's saliva mixed with his blood. Aaron groaned and sat a little straighter, lifting one leg and kicking at the mass in the darkness.

He connected solidly. The force of the blow caused the lizard, or whatever it was, to wrench back. It didn't let go of his arm, though. Teeth tugged at the wound. He kicked again, and felt his skin tearing around the creature's fangs. A third kick and it finally let go with a breathless hiss, curling up to protect its battered ribs.

Aaron struggled to his feet. Blood was rushing in his ears. He couldn't hear the wheezing, moaning sound he made when he exhaled. Before the lizard had a chance to recover, he kicked it a couple more times. The force of the blows lifted the creature off the sidewalk. He could feel how solid the flesh was underneath his clothing.

The lizard crawled quickly backwards and stood up under a working street lamp. In the dim light he could see it a bit more clearly. It has a wide, almost gentle muzzle. That was, until it opened its maw. Sharp teeth glinted between ribbons of drool that stretched between its lips. Its eyes were black and small, but focused.

"What the hell, man?" Aaron held his forearm, feeling the blood and saliva dripping through his fingers. "Who the hell bites people?"

The lizard said nothing. It simply stared at him.

"Do you want my money?" The horse reached into his pocket. He might have been able to take the lizard, but at this point he didn't care. It could have his wallet and most of his credit cards. He just needed the one to get home. He threw the billfold at the lizard's feet. It looked down, then back up at him. It still said nothing.

"Just...just stay back." Aaron was beginning to feel a little light on his hooves. He had to get out of there. He took a few shaky steps back, then turned and fled.

He ran for four more blocks before he discovered his attacker wasn't following him. By then, he could see the lights of a major street beckoning a block or two away. He couldn't tell. His vision was starting to blur.

The pain in his shoulder and forearm throbbed, and it had reached his head in seemingly no time. The burning was worse; he felt it worming its way through his blood. Now that the adrenaline was wearing off, his limbs felt heavier than ever. If he could just make it to the street corner, he should be OK.

He took one step, then another. His body flooded with an irrational elation. He was going to make it! Then everything went black.

The night clerk of the corner convenience store was taking his smoke break when he saw the giant horse crumple to the sidewalk. The ambulance took forty minutes to arrive. The stranger was unconscious the entire time.

* * * * *

A soft and steady beeping brought Aaron up from sleep...or wherever he was. His nostrils flared before he opened his eyes. He could smell old, clean cotton. Industrial detergents. Soft and hard plastic. Saline. Antiseptic. Bandages. Underneath all of it, his own body fighting off some kind of disease. And wolf.

He opened his eyes and tested his body. He could feel needles going into the veins at the top of his forearm, and the pressure of a tightly wrapped bandage around his shoulder. He was kept modest by something thin and loose. Most likely a hospital gown. He could feel his fur and tail brushing up against the naked fabric of the bed.

Aaron lifted his long, thick neck to look around the room. The action alone made his head pound, and he groaned automatically. There was a growl in response, and suddenly the presence of wolf grew much stronger.

"Oh thank God." Kord appeared as a big grey blur. The horse's upper body was lifted from the bed and into the lupine's crushing arms. "I came as soon as they called. I was so worried. What the fuck were you doing in that part of town?"

Despite the fact that Kord was crushing fire into his shoulder, the hug felt really nice. Aaron wrapped his arms around his lover's barreled torso and squeezed. He pressed his nose into thick grey fur, took in the scent of it. It was comforting even though there was nervousness and anger lurking in the natural musk.

"I'm fine. Really." Aaron chuckled. "Just got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time is all. I was trying out a new bar..."

"Did Mario put you up to that?" Kord growled. "I'm going to have words with that ferret."

Aaron planted his hands on Kord's shoulders and pushed back. "Easy, easy. It wasn't him. But it was a good place and I lost track of time. I got turned around looking for the bus. That's all. It could have happened to anybody."

"Anybody dumb enough to be out in that neighborhood that time of night." The wolf's yellow eyes narrowed. Kord was a good match for Aaron, all things considered. He was almost as big as the horse -- about a foot shorter and seventy pounds lighter, but with a demeanor that put that size to much better use. He was the more guarded and pragmatic of the two, fiercely protective of friends he viewed as weaker (no matter their size) against a world he viewed as much more hostile. "You know what kind of people live there."

Aaron patted the wolf's shoulder and leaned back to rest against the headboard. He really didn't feel like arguing about this. "Yeah. I know. It wasn't the smartest thing to do. But I got out of it with just a few scratches."

Kord did not look appeased. He folded his arms across his chest in a very distracting manner. "And the bastard stole your wallet."

"Yes, there's that, too." Aaron sighed and tried to will away the stirrings in his loins. He had just been attacked. His wallet had just been stolen. He'd have to cancel all of his credit cards, and who knows how long dealing with the police would take. "What time is it? How long have I been out?"

The wolf finally seemed to relax. "You've been unconscious for about eighteen hours. It's nine o'clock."

The horse's eyes widened. "Oh God, I have to call--"

"--work? Don't worry about it. I called your boss and told him what happened. He said to take as much time as you need."

Aaron relaxed and closed his eyes. He felt off in a way he couldn't describe. Not exactly sick, but different. He could tell something was wrong with his body. "Thanks, babe. I owe you one."

"Damn right, you do." He could practically see Kord's tongue loll out of his muzzle. "Just let me have steak for dinner one night next week, we'll call it even."

Aaron wrinkled his nose involuntarily. "I'll think about it. I'm sure there's all kinds of other satisfying ways I could repay you."

Kord chuckled, but there was a knock on the door before he could reply. The wolf turned and said, "Dr. Bose." Something in his tone made Aaron open his eyes.

Dr. Bose was an immense tiger. Aaron caught him entering the room, and the big cat was forced to duck down and push one shoulder in at a time to navigate the frame. When he stood upright he blocked the door entirely and his ears were a few short inches away from the ceiling. Tigers were known to be fairly massive, but he had never seen one so large.

The doctor smiled and nodded to Kord, then made his way over to the bed. Aaron was transfixed by the cat's graceful motion. His neck was shortened by the sheer mass of his shoulders, and his body was barely contained by a shirt, lab coat and pair of slacks that looked like it had to be custom-made. It looked like every flex of his impressive musculature strained the fabric a little more. Still, his oversized paws landed exactly where he wanted them, spreading under his weight with an ease uncommon in one that size. When the doctor approached, Aaron saw Kord's ears sweep back. The wolf was impressed, too, no doubt.

"Good evening." Dr. Bose rumbled, his voice filling the bare room. He stared at a spot just between Kord's ears, and turned to look at Aaron's nose. He smiled, but didn't show his teeth to either of them. "I just thought I'd perform one last check on you before heading home for the evening. You had quite a scare, as I understand."

"Y...yes. I was mugged." Aaron's voice faltered once. He had to whinny once to get it back.

Dr. Bose looked down at a clipboard that Aaron had failed to notice until now. It was dwarfed in the tiger's massive hand. "Ah yes, but no ordinary mugging. You were...bitten?"

Aaron nodded. "It felt weird, doc."

"You were exposed to the venom of a komodo dragon. It's uncommon in these parts, but not unheard of. Thankfully we were have anti-venom in stock, just in case. We administered it as soon as you arrived, and the poison should have moved completely through your system in another day or so."

"Wait a minute...komodo dragon? Don't they have all kinds of diseases? Did you check for those?" Kord was understandably nervous, but he didn't jump all over the doctor with questions the way he normally would have done.

Dr. Bose smiled. "Yes, that's something we screened for. We haven't gotten all of the test results back, but everything checks out negative so far." The enormous tiger's voice was deep and powerful, but incredibly soothing. His body charged the room with energy, as powerful as it was, but Aaron felt quite at ease. It was a weird feeling. He could feel his sheath beginning to stir underneath his gown no matter how hard he tried to think about something else.

It didn't help at all when the tiger turned to him and leaned in close, his whiskers quivering in the dimly lit room. "Now, Mr. Sweetgrass, I want you to open your eyes." He reached for a small light that had been hidden in his pocket. In the doctor's hand, it looked impossibly fragile.

Aaron obliged, and Dr. Bose went through the motions of a cursory examination. He checked the horse's eyes, ears and throat. He leaned in close to get his hearbeat, even though he was hooked up to a machine that read that perfectly well. It lasted only a few minutes, but by the end of it the horse's nerves had begun to fray again. The doctor's scent was so alluring, so confident that he felt himself responding to it in an entirely primal way. He felt his shaft slide out of its sheath and crawl along his stomach. Despite his mortification, he couldn't help himself.

If Dr. Bose noticed anything, he didn't mention it. He simply stood up and loomed over both Kord and the bed, gave a benevolent smile and marked a few things down on his clipboard.

"Very good. Everything looks just fine." He nodded to both the wolf and the horse. "We'd like to keep you for at least two more days. Once the anti-venom has done it's job, we want to make sure your wounds have been properly tended and there's no risk of infection. The police will no doubt have a few questions for you as well. But all of that can wait until tomorrow. For now, I suggest you get your sleep. And Mr. Maynard, you'll no doubt want to get home before too late as well. I'll leave you two to say good night."

Both Aaron and Kord watched Dr. Bose go. His tail waved through his lab coat as he went, his shoulders and back threatening to rip right out of it. He ducked and squeezed his way out of the frame and shut the door as lightly as he could behind him. When the latch clicked, they both sighed.

It was quiet for a moment. Aaron spoke first. "Kord?"

"Yeah. That's...some doctor, isn't he?"

"Yeah. I need you to do something for me."

The wolf finally took his eyes off of the door. He turned to see the sheets tented around quite a heavy pole. "Whoa." His eyes flashed, and he made a move to pull the covers away. "You want me to take care of this for you?"

Aaron nodded. He was already starting to breathe heavy. All of his body's heat, every rush of blood, seemed to be going right to his erection. He had never felt this hard in his life. "Please." He was worried that Kord would think this was a little strange, being so aroused after being told that he was poisoned with komodo dragon venom. It wasn't really like him.

To his surprise, the wolf quickly shrugged out of his shirt and started to unbuckle his pants. "My pleasure."

The horse kicked off his covers and reached down to lift up his gown. The feeling of the scratchy fabric against his erection made him nicker. Without the slight weight of his bedclothes to keep him relatively modest it stood up almost straight from his body, the tip eighteen inches in the air. He put his hands on his hips to keep from touching it while waiting for the wolf.

Kord shrugged off his pants and underwear in record time. His pink tip was already climbing up the dusty grey fur of his belly by the time he slid into bed. He was growling in anticipation, his lip curled in a lustful sneer. Aaron would have found that distasteful a year ago, but the mating behavior had grown on him since then. It just made him want the wolf more.

He slid aside on the small bed to give him room, and the mattress creaked with the additional weight. They both turned on their side, facing each other, and Aaron gasped when he felt Kord's body force his shaft to bend. The feeling of the lupine's fur against his mottled skin was unbelievable, and he felt his balls jolt and swell. The pleasure radiated from there, and it felt like his muscles were mimicking the gesture.

They kissed suddenly, Kord's hand coming round to hold the back of the horse's head. Their muzzles twisted just a bit, the wolf's tongue sliding in to mingle with the horse's. Kord growled and Aaron snorted, and between each other their shafts throbbed that much harder. The stallion was beginning to leak.

Kord broke the kiss, his other arm finding its way around the horse's side. "Well, you're ready to go. Should I be jealous of that tiger?"

Aaron slid his arms around his mate, pressing him tighter. His hips started to grind his erection against the wolf's front. "I don't see stripes in this bed. Do you?"

The wolf grinned, tongue lolling. He looked more like an over-muscled coyote when he did that. "Nope. But only because he'd never fit."

The stallion snorted. "Shut up and suck me."

"Yes sir." Kord grinned and licked Aaron's nose before he lowered himself. The horse could feel the wolf's knot beginning to form before he pulled away, already at full mast by now. When he felt the lupine's tongue curl against his underchannel, he whinnied, turning to push his face towards the pillow a bit more. No need to let the whole wing know what they were up to.

In the early days of the relationship, Kord and Aaron gave each other head exclusively. Aaron's shaft was too big to make fucking very easy, and Kord's knot took a lot of getting used to, so they had a lot of time to practice their technique on one another. Kord was still better at it, and he proved it again almost immediately. He knew just where to glide along the expansive flesh of the horse's member, just where to brush his nose or let Aaron feel the barest scrape of teeth. Precum was starting to spurt now, creating a few lines on the bed sheet, matting the fur of the wolf's head, soaking into the horse's own gown. By the time Kord opened his muzzle wide around Aaron's head, he knew he wouldn't last much longer.

He was reduced to making animal noises as he felt Kord's teeth scraping around him. The wolf's palate and soft tongue caressed his tip as it throbbed deeper into his muzzle, finally stopping at his throat. He felt like thrashing and bucking, but settled for squeezing broad shoulders and tensing his thighs. His cock felt like it was on fire, that his veins were replaced with ribbons of hot liquid steel.

His blunt nails scraped harmlessly through Kord's fur as he began to bob on Aaron's member. The wolf always gave great head, but this was something different. He rarely got this excited, this needful. It felt like everything in his body was screaming for this release. He was primed, he was ready, he just couldn't wait. The wolf's teeth brushed his underchannel as he drew up, bringing Aaron's flared head to the opening of his mouth, and that tiny bit of stimulation was all he needed to go over the edge.

Even with half of his face buried in the pillow, Aaron's whinny echoed off the walls. His balls slammed against the base of his shaft and a second later he felt a solid column of seed slam shoot out of him. Kord coughed and backed off quickly, leaving the spurt to coat part of his face before arcing in the open air.

Aaron kicked and bowed his body on the bed, turning onto his back. His eyes were squeezed shut in the throes of climax, but he could feel an incredible amount of seed jetting from him. It spurted high into the air before coming down on his gown, the sheets, and Kord. Some might have even gotten onto the equipment. He wasn't sure. His heart was thudding in his ears, and each shot took his breath away.

It was over in just over a minute. All at once the stallion collapsed in his bed, his chest heaving. Once he could hear again, and spots stopped exploding under his eyelids, he opened his eyes to see a grinning, panting wolf above him.

"Hot damn, stallion. We should do this in hospitals more often." He was holding on to his own shaft, which was leaking still. The knot had gone down, though. Aaron wasn't sure what that meant.

"Yeah. Uhm, sorry. Don't know what came over me." The horse smiled drunkenly. Now that the rush of arousal was leaving him, he was left with exhaustion once more. He could feel his body getting heavier, just waiting to sink into the peaceful bliss of sleep.

Kord chuckled, flopping next to the horse. "Surviving a life-threatening situation makes you do that, I'm sure. It's just nature. Get up, though. We've got to get you some new bedsheets and what not."

Aaron got up reluctantly and slumped in his chair. He drowsed while Kord waited for his knot to go down completely, made himself as presentable as possible and left the room. He returned minutes later with a new gown and bedsheets. He made sure everything was tidied, and crawled into bed with the horse for a little while more. How much longer, he couldn't say. He was asleep by the time his head hit the pillow.

He slept dreamlessly. As he rested, his body changed. It slowly knit his wounds back together, worked his muscles and expanded them. It changed his skeleton. Slowly but irrevocably, it worked its way through his cells, forcing rewrites in his genetic code. His body needed fuel for this. Maybe that's why he woke up in the middle of the night with his stomach twisting itself with hunger.

When Aaron opened his eyes, he felt incredibly weak. His brain was in a fog. His throat felt like it had shut itself, it was so dry. His arms and legs felt impossibly heavy.

He struggled to get up for a few minutes, but it was no use. He looked around for a nurse's button. Something felt wrong. Really, really wrong.

The door opened, slowly. Aaron craned his head to see who it was, but couldn't make anything out. Any light that could come from the hallway was being blocked. He could see slivers of it, but nothing more.

A figure emerged into the room. Its shape was hard to pin down, and as it came closer to the bed Aaron could see why. It was covered completely in some kind of hooded heavy cloak. It stepped into the light, and he could make out a few small details. Its muzzle was broad and blunt. When it smiled, it showed rows of small, sharp teeth.

The horse felt his heart beginning to leap into his chest. He opened his mouth to scream, but all that came out was a hoarse groan. He was sure it was barely audible. The lizard -- or whatever it was -- put a thin clawed finger to its lips in response.

It came to the side of his bed and got down on its knees. Aaron felt shockingly warm hands grab his forearm, undo his bandages to expose short black fur. The horse stared. It looked like his wound was gone.

A drop of something landed on his forearm. Then another. Aaron looked at the lizard to see that it was drooling. It met his eyes and smiled. Then it bit.

The horse wanted to scream, but he couldn't. That same strange, burning pain sank into his veins and the blood carried it to his upper arm, to his shoulder and chest. From there, his whole body began to ache. The stranger let go of his arm and watched blood welling up, forming thin rivers through his fur. Then it leaned down and began to lap at it.

Aaron looked on in mute horror as the lizard fed for a minute. He could feel himself starting to get a little cold. His fingers were getting numb. "You're not ready," he heard a voice hiss. Then, just like that, the figure rose, spun, and seemed to float out of the room.

The stallion sat bolt upright in his bed, the next thing he knew, clutching his injured forearm. He winced at the pain of his wound, looked down and saw that it had bled through his bandaging a little bit. His head throbbed dully. The morning sun hurt his eyes. And by God, was he hungry.

With the strangeness of the night before already fading from his mind, he picked up the nurse's call button and tapped it. All he could think about was eating a breakfast or three.
