Author's note:

Ok I know things are getting good in the story now so I'll say what I need to quickly. First I would like to thank everyone that is reading my work. Second I would like to wish everyone a late happy father's day! ^-^ Next I will explain why I have not posted anything for like a month. Well, to make a long story short, I got tried of how slow my last computer was running (160MB) and basically went out and got a new one as well as build it thanks to Lazz who I know in real life. The new runs at 3GB of Ram so I should be pretty good. Lastly, I will do my best to catch up on the month I have been gone. This means since I will owe my readers 5 chapters as of this upcoming Sunday, I will type like never before. Since Chapter 4's release I now will need to type up four more chapters and now including this one, I will now need to type up 3 more. This just to catch up, so in other words instead of me submitting one chapter weekly, they will now be released A.S.A.P. until I catch up to where we all should be, which I think should be chapter 8 or so. Anyway looks like I rambled on again enjoy the chapter!!! XD

Dragon Storm

Chapter 5:Rio's Resolve!

"It's....over!" Wild Horn said still out of breath from Rio's last attack.

Wild Horn tried to take aim to bounce another bullet off the railing to hit Rio from behind again. However that was hard to do since the circled shaped platform was spinning counter clockwise at a high speed now. Wild Horn held his side because he was bleeding so heavy. It was painful for him to breathe. Rio was almost in the same condition. He had never felt this way before. He could hardly hear what Wild Horn just said thanks to all the gunfire. The gunfire echoed acrossed the room and the cling noise that the bullets made on impact echoed as well. Rio didn't know what to do. He had never been out numbered like this before. Just then, he remembered something that his father told him back when he was young dragon.

(Flashback: Childhood event)

"Okay here goes nothing!" Young Rio said.

Suddenly Rio inhaled a deep breath and exhaled small embers of fire. He then fell down to the ground in exhaustion. Rio looked up at his dad, Quicksilver. His silver scales that reflected the sunlight made it diffult to look at him without it hurting your eyes. The two of them were standing in their back yard on the dock. It went a little bit out into the lake. The backyards of their neighbors could be seen from here. Quicksilver wanted to teach Rio how to breath fire in case of an emergency. Quicksilver was never home and was only going to be home for a few more days before he would have to go back on active duty.

"Like this son." Quicksilver said then inhaled a deep breath and exhaled a huge silver flame that spewed from his mouth like a flamethrower for more than thirty seconds.

While he was exhaling the silver flame everything around them glew a silvery color and made the water look like it were some kind of liqudifyed metal. Rio's eyes widen he had never seen anything like it before. When Quicksilver finally stopped exhaling the silver flame he was breathing heavy then asked Rio to give it another shot. Rio nodded and walked to the edge of the dock and inhaled a deep breath and exhaled a small blood red flame that lasted for about five seconds. When he was finished he fell to the ground breathing heavy.

"Well that's enough for today son. I see your not ready for this yet.." Quicksilver said.

Rio watched as his dad walked inside. His words echoed inside his head repeatedly. Rio wanted more then that. He wanted his dad to be proud of the son he had. He did not want to let down the family name. He thought about what he should do to improve his fire breathing skills. He would rather be inside playing Smash Dragons Brawl, but he wanted to prove to his dad he could get the hang of it before he left. Young Rio stood up and inhales another deep breath of air and exhaled another small blood red flame. This process continued until nightfall and the stars could be seen very clearly.

The following days were the very same. Young Rio would go outside and practice what his dad wanted him to master. He would spend hours at a time on the dock in his back yard before taking a break to use the restroom or get something to eat. He would eat outside instead of with his family. If he had to go number one he would use his favorite bush. Other than that he was out side all day every day. Slowly but surely his flames got bigger and lasted longer. He knew he was getting the hang of it. His friends would come over and Rio would turn down the offer to go play just to proceed with his training. This process repeated for the next week.

One day Rio woke up to find himself on the dock again. He decided that in order to push himself further he was going to start earlier in the morning and end his training later at night. This way his training would increase by four more hours in a day. Of course this only left him with about two hours of sleep and sandbags already had formed under his eyes from lack of sleep. He also had small burns on his face from so much fire breathing. Rio put his training before everything and above all else. He even skipped the chance to go shower and brush his teeth. This meant everything to him because he wanted his dad to acknowledge him.

The next day Young Rio was training non stop. It was about midday and he started to starve himself to keep his training up. He was sure that at this rate he would surpass his dad's expectations in no time at all. Rio never felt so hungry before in his life. He hardly had the stamina to keep this up. He nearly tumbled over a few times due to the lack of sleep. However just then, a droplet of water hit his face. It felt icy cold and yet it also felt refreshing maybe due to lack of bathing. It looked like a thunderstorm was headed this way. Rio didn't care though. He still wanted to train non-stop no matter what the weather was like. The next thing Rio knew it was pouring badly. The gusts of wind picked up to about 68 M.P.H. and lightning was hitting everything. The sound of countless transformers blowing up could be heard from all directions. It didn't look like the thunderstorm was going to let up any time soon either. However Rio still kept on going.

Finally the day came where it was time to see Quicksilver off. As it was the day he was to go back into the military. There were still massive puddles of water from the thunderstorm from the day before. Rio ran as fast as he could to where his dad was. He found him packing his things up in large suitcases in the living room.

"Dad, Dad!! Come quick!" Rio shouted.

"What is it Rio!?" Quicksilver asked.

Quicksilver looked at his son covered in burn marks and blood. He was soaking wet and getting everything wet. Quicksilver's eyes widen, he had no idea what has happened to his son but he had to get ready to leave. His black tank top was torn and his baggy jean shorts were dirty and had charred spots on them. His eyes were red and sand bags had formed under them. The way he was holding on to the wall for support just to stand told him that he had not been eating. He was to weak to even stand on his own. Rio then ran out of the room quickly.

"Hey were you out in that thunder storm yesterday? Hey I'm talking to you!" Quicksilver said.

When Quicksilver made it to the backyard he saw Rio standing on the dock waiting for him. When he got to the dock he asked his question.

"What is the meaning of this son?" Quicksilver asked.

"Fire breathing!" Rio said.

"I thought I told you that you were not ready for this yet! Your only nine years old. Most dragons can't do this until they are at least fourteen." Quicksilver said.

"No! I don't want you to teach me, I want you to watch me!" Rio yelled.

Quicksilver was stunned by what young Rio just said. He looked at his high dollar silver watch and then back to his son. He looked at the suffering his son had been through. It was easy to see he had been at this day and night. The water from the lake was overflowing with more water then normal. It was up to their talons even though they were standing on the dock.

"Alright." Quicksilver replied.

With that being said, young Rio turned around to face the clear blue lake. He stared at himself in the reflection of the water and let out a sigh. He was nervous and among other things he was completely exhausted. However he ignored it. He began to inhale a deep breath of air, one that must have lasted more then twenty seconds. Then he finally exhaled the biggest blood red flame the both of them had ever seen. Everything glowed red and the water was red too. Steam could be seen all over the place the backyard quickly became a spa. The heat suddenly rose to about 101 degrees Fahrenheit. The flame was about the size of the lake and lasted about almost one whole minute. When young Rio was finished he fell to the ground in pain then turned his head to see Quicksilver in shock. Suddenly Quicksilver began to walk away on a dry dock due to the water level returning to normal thanks to Rio's display. Water started to form in Rio's eyes because he wanted his father to compliment all his hard work. However young Rio did not cry and instead stood up and watched his walk away a second time. Suddenly Quicksilver stopped walking and spoke.

"I truly am glad you are my son Rio. Don't ever give up. Work hard and soar high!" Quicksilver said with a sniffle and walked inside.

This really made Rio happy to hear. Those words echoed inside of his head non-stop. He wanted to remember this moment of his life forever. Rio watched as the fish flopped around wildly. Rio felt like he could finally take it easy now. Rio looked up at the sky one last time before he rushed inside to say his farewells.

(Flash forward: Griffin stronghold)

"Don't ......ever....give....up! Rio screamed at the top of his lungs.

Suddenly, Rio stood up and inhaled a deep breath of air while dodging the incoming bullets, poked his head around the support beam, then he exhaled a mid sized blood red flame that Wild Horn nearly could not evade. Wild Horn dived to the ground and began to get back up slowly as to not get shot from one of the many griffin soldiers. Just then, the platform stopped and Rio was in luck. There was now a narrow walkway that had a small staircase on it that led further upwards and into another room. Rio was in luck because he was placed right in front of it. He dashed down the narrow walk way and up the stairs and into the other room. He felt bullet after bullet hit him, but from that far away and Rio's chain mail it couldn't get through and hurt Rio.

Rio was shocked when he entered the next room. It was a large room with hardly any lighting to it at all. There were vast amounts of animals locked in cages. Rio was unsure what he should do. He felt like he was at zoo. At least that's what Rio wanted it to be, however he knew it was not. It seems like they are using these animals for something. Some of the animals were already missing from their cages. Rio trip all of a sudden and found himself best friends with the floor. He looked up to see a wolf locked in its cage. Rio starred at the wolf and the wolf whined and glared at him back. Rio got on one knee and unlocked its cage. The wolf was a female Hokkaido wolf. The Hokkaido Wolf became extinct during the Meiji restoration period. The wolf was deemed a threat to ranching (which the Meiji government promoted at the time) and targeted via a bounty system and a direct chemical extermination campaign. Hokkaido experienced significant development during this period and the Hokkaido Wolf also suffered from resulting environmental disruption.

Rio wondered why this wolf was here and how this wolf was here. It was said to be completely extinct. Yet clearly it stood on all fours in front of him. The wolf began to lick Rio on the face as he pondered and then laughed. Just then, Wild Horn finally made it into the room and shot at Rio. Rio seen the bullet head right for the wolf. Rio quickly placed his left shoulder in the path of the bullet and took the shot. Rio began to bleed heavily from his left shoulder, which not even his chain mail protected him from.

"Aaargrgrgggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!" Rio screamed.

Rio's crimson red blood was gushing everywhere at this point. The female Hokkaido wolf licked some of Rio's blood and whimpered. Rio snapped his finger to signal the wolf to make a run for it and without any delay the wolf ran out of the room and into the next one. It barked twice before its barks faded away. Rio stood up and faced Wild Horn.

"I see you found the animals we are going to use to test our project on." Wild Horn said.

"You'll never get away with this!" Rio yelled.

Just then, Rio pulled out his handgun the S&M 9mm, and tried to take aim at Wild Horn, but Wild Horn quickly and effortlessly shot the handgun out of Rio's hands.

"I have one shot left. I have never been pushed this far before kid. You are the first to have ever met my 11th bullet let alone my last. You will die now......there is nothing you can do to avoid this." Wild Horn said.

With that said Wild Horn shot his last bullet and it sped right for Rio's head. Rio quickly inhaled and exhaled a small blood red flame to absorb the bullet and melt it. The flame could not reach Wild Horn however. They both were worn and out of options at this point. Wild Horn dashed at Rio and punched him in the stomach and gave him two left hooks across the face. Rio finally reacted and held his hands down and smacked him with his tail on the legs making Wild Horn fall to the ground and letting Rio prance on top of him and scratch him repeated. Wild Horns dark brown blood got all over Rio and covered him in it. Rio then sliced off one of Wild Horns golden horns on the top of his head and more brown blood gushed out from the veins in the broken horn. Rio grabbed the horn and stabbed Wild Horn with it in his mid section. While Wild Horn reacted by kicking Rio in the face with his sharp hooves making Rio bleed just above the right eye. Rio jumped off of him in pain and Wild Horn stood up in pain.

"Why don't........ You just....... roll over......... and....... die already." Wild Horn said.

"Follow...your......own.......advice." Rio said as he used his black claws to pluck out the bullet from his wound on his left shoulder and exhaled a small flame to seal the wound to stop the blood loss in his left arm.

Rio closed his right eye at this point so he didn't get his blood in his eye. He looked at Wild Horn and back at himself and back to Wild Horn again. If this kept up both of them would die in less then ten minutes. Rio knew that Wild Horn was now weaponless and lacked speed and skills at fighting up close. However he was fairly smart so having close fight might be bad for Rio now. He knew that Wild Horn had to have a reason for remaining calm even after everything he put him threw. There had to be a reason. Rio thought that Wild Horn was thinking about rushing at him when his back was turned, as he would go retrieve his S&M 9mm handgun. Or he could be waiting for Rio to rush at him, he will most likely his golden horn out of himself and try to stab Rio with it. Rio didn't know what Wild Horn was planning to do, but Rio did know that he was waiting for Rio to make the first move.

Suddenly all the various animals of all shapes and sizes started howling and whining. As if to say "don't give up Rio". Then Rio remembered what his dad said to him in his flashback. It echoed inside his head. It made Rio's heart beat faster then ever before. He felt almost no pain at all suddenly. He then inhaled the biggest breath of air he had ever inhaled before and Wild Horn knew right then what was coming and had no way to defend himself. Wild Horn was to weak to evade it this time. His body felt very heavy to him, as this long battle had weakened his muscles. Just then, Wild Horn noticed something about Rio. Rio's red skin was glowing red and repeatedly pulsed red. Wild Horn quickly ran away for his life and reached into his pocket to grab something when suddenly Rio exhaled a blood red flame so big that for Wild Horn it was completely unavoidable. There was a huge explosion and the exit was sealed via debris. There was smoke all over the place and Rio fell to the charred floor in massive pain. Rio had mixed feelings about what just happened; however he felt his eyes starting to close. He knew his time was up.

"Heh.......looks like......I finally found.........my resolve. " Rio whispered as he passed out.
