When things go down in the hallway do friends just turn into someone Samson used to know? Who's his real enemy anyway?

I clutched my books close to my chest as I walked down the hallway, weaving my way through the other school furs. I had my long tail pulled as close to my body as I could get it to prevent it from getting trotted on by any of the passing furs

Having your tail stepped on, especially by any of the hooved furs, isn't exactly pleasant, it hurts like a bitch. I remember Aaron once accidentally stepping on me during lunch, I had to ice my poor appendage for a week.

Let's see, I have Ms. Yates next, so the best way to her class from the library is to swing by the gym. Normally Ms. Yates' room is only a few classes down from Ms. Bensen's economics class. But, today Ms. Bensen had taken the class down to the library to work on a big project she had assigned to us this semester. I had to write an analysis about how the 2008 financial crisis has affected international oil trade. It was an interesting project but I could think of at least ten or fifteen things I would rather do with my time.

The shiny lit up cases of sports trophies gave the gym hallway an eerie glow this morning. I noticed there were a few burnt out florescent lightbulbs on the celling that probably just added to the creepy vibe. The halls had mostly cleared at this point but there were still a few other students milling about.

"Hey! Fagot!" My ears perked at the voice yelling behind me.

I just ignored the voice as I usually do. While by definition I certainly did qualify, there were few people I know who would call me that. Usually when I heard it in school it wasn't referring to me at all but was more of a joke between some of the other guys.

"Yo Bitch!" I heard another voice yell. This one was familiar somehow.

I turned around just to see who the hell was yelling.

I saw the tell-tale grey and white fur of that wolf with a few of his buddies tracking behind him.

"Excuse me?" I said rather sardonically.

"You heard me fag." Luke said as he got closer, "I could see it in your ears."

"Look I have to get to class so if you have something to tell me just get on with it." I said rudely and evasively knowing that these guys could do some serious damage if I made any mistakes.

"Shut up!" he yelled, "Its because of you fag that my parents practically took everything away from me and grounded me for the next two months. You're lucky that I don't snap you in half right on the spot."

I had no doubt he could do what he said but I assume that he's at least still friends with Brandon, or was at least afraid of him, that had to count for something.

"Correct me if I'm wrong," I tempted fate, "but you were the one who threw the party and got caught by your parents."

"I said shut up Bitch! I didn't ask you what you thought..."

"Is there a point to this Luke?" I asked, once again taking my life into my own hands in brazen abandon.

Despite me standing my ground, at least verbally, they now had me backed against one of the eerily glowing trophy cases. Luke got in my face, close enough for me to smell faint traces of his breakfast when he spoke. I just stood there and looked into his eyes aloofly and without care for the consequences of taunting the bigger wolf.

"Look here fag, if you weren't fucking fuck buddies with Brandon I'd fucking pound the fucking shit out of you where you stand."

I looked past him for a quick second looking for an opportunity to escape or maybe even something to give me an edge if things turned ugly. All I saw was a pair of vixens on the other side of the hall watching the spectacle unfold before them.

"You know, Luke, the Spanish have a word for people like you." I said feeling more brazen than ever, despite the rapidly deteriorating circumstances.

"What the fuck would that be?" he asked spite fully.

"Puta." I said, fighting the urge to put a smug grin on my face.

"What did you just call me fag!" I could feel his breaths on my nose pad as his ice blue eyes stared at me with rage.

"AHEM!" I heard another familiar voice from my left side.

Both of us looked over to see Aaron staring at us with his arms crossed and head cocked disapprovingly. This was definitely Aaron in a full on defensive mode. I've only ever seen this side of the generally warm and friendly buck a handful of times.

"Am I interrupting anything?" he said, his voice deep and rumbling which made my neck fur stand on end.

"No, no. Of course not. Sammy and I were just having... a little chat here." Said Luke trying to act all bogusly diplomatic towards the buck.

"I suggest you three move along to class. You don't want to be late to Fundamentals of Art again." Aaron suggested, obviously trying to take a pass at an insult to Luke and his cohorts.

Luke looked back at me with sheer hate in his eyes and angrily whispered to me, "If Brandon ever hears about this that will be the end of you. Got it?"

All I did was cock my head in response. Aaron audibly snuffled to catch the imposing wolf's attention and reminding him of the even more imposing buck surveying the situation like a watchdog. Luke and his crew made one last scowl at me before backing off and walking down the hall away from us. I saw the two vixens from earlier separate and disperse into the hall after a few mumbles to each other.

I saw Aaron return to his almost normal self within a matter of seconds after the wolf and his gang rounded a turn. He put his arms on my shoulders and practically shook me apart.

"Are you okay!? They didn't touch you did they!?" he yelled with an extremely worried tone in his voice making me think twice before answering.

"No they didn't touch me. I'm perfectly fine Aaron."

He let go of my shoulders once he was sure I hadn't been injured by them. He took a step back.

"What was with all that anyway?" he asked.

"Apparently Luke is holding me responsible for his parents busting him after that party."

"Well, are you?" he asked curiously taking his voice back down to a comfortable level.

"As far as I know I'm not. I guess I'm just an easy target for him. One of the only fags in school, not very popular, caused a massive scene at his party, and I'm dating one of his friends, you know how it goes."

"It's been a while since then, though. And I don't like hearing you call yourself that." He reprimanded.

"Why not?" I said, "By denying it and hiding so far in the closet that you've reached Narnia only give jackasses like them more power."

"What the hell's happened to you, Sam? Five months ago you would never have done something like that to."

"'Something like that'? If you mean sticking up for myself, I'm not a cub anymore Aaron."

"I wasn't saying that you were. It's just... look I just miss the good old times where I was just the three of us. The three musketeers. You, me and Amy."

"Amy has shattered any possibility of us just going back to the way we were." I said getting awfully defensive again.

"I'm not defending her, Sam. What she did was an awful thing but, don't you think that you two could just talk about it?"

"Maybe when she's ready to give a good damn explanation for herself."

"And what about me? Ever since you started dating Brandon you've just pushed me away trying to pretend that you're something that you're not."

"If this is about those blowjobs we..." I started.

"...made an agreement that it would only be temporary and that if either of us found a boyfriend that we would stop." He said deadpan.

"And you say I'm pretending to be someone I'm not. Look at you. Still hiding in the closet because you're too God damn afraid to bite the bullet and find someone for yourself." I said.

"You better watch it..." he growled making me take a step back."

I took a few seconds to realize what I had just said and a feeling of remorse swept across my face.

"Look I'm sorry, I stepped over the line."

"Yeah you sure did, Samson." He said, sounding like I had just stabbed him in the heart, "Look I've got to get to Mr. Kartev's before he marks me late. See you around."

He turned and began walking away with his muzzle pointed down at the floor. I feel absolutely terrible for what I've done. I took a few quick strides forward and called out to him.

"Aaron wait!" He just ignored me ad kept walking. I stopped dead in my tracks at the sight of a familiar she-wolf coming down the hall towards me.
