#16 of Redwall: Behind the Bushes

This is based on "Salamandastron" and partly on "Redwall" by Brian Jacques. All characters are (c) the author.

Yes, it's short. As you can see, I'm reading these books in chronological order. Salamandastron is the prequel that takes place just before Redwall, and I'm attempting to connect them.

Mara the badger and a group of shrews had recently landed their logboats on an island in a great inland lake. There, they met the white badger Urthwyte, as well as his grandmother Loambudd and her lesbian lover Ashnin the squirrel.

Mara approached Urthwyte in his bedchamber and said, "At first I was afraid of you since I've never seen a white badger before, but I find you very handsome."

"I have that affect on other creatures," said Urthwyte.

"Being scared of you or finding you handsome?" asked Mara.

"Both," said Urthwyte.

"Don't you feel lonely with just your grandmother and her lover?" Asked Mara. "Certainly you're interested in being with a female who isn't so old."

"Why yes, indeed I am," said Urthwyte.

"Want to mate with me?" asked Mara.

"This is so sudden, but, yes, of course!" replied Urthwyte. He was a bit older and larger than Mara, but they both undressed, and mated in the natural position. They allowed a few curious shrews to watch them, since privacy for badgers is an option. Urthwyte roared and grunted as ribbons of spooge flowed into Mara. When they were finished, they fell asleep.

After the defeat of the evil Ferahgo the Assassin, Urthwyte had become Badger Lord of Salamandastron, and Mara was the new Badger Mother of Redwall. Not only was she a mother in the figurative sense, she had recently literally became one when she gave birth to a girl. This did not cause Samkim to lose his desire to marry Mara. At the moment the squirrel and badger met, they were inseperable. He was willing to raise Mara's daughter as his own, even though as a squirrel, he obviously was not the father.

Arula the mole, who Samkim had a relationship with, was still friends with Samkim even though she married another mole and started a family.

"Have you thought of a name yet?" asked Samkim to his fiancee Mara.

"This baby will be a constant reminder of my affair with my step-uncle Urthwyte," Mara replied. "A constant reminder... that's it! I'll name her Constance!"

"So she shall be called Constance," agreed Samkim. "Perhaps she'll be the next Badger Mother."

"Perhaps," said Mara.

Later that day, a young adult mouse tugged at Samkim's sleeve. "Mr. Samkim, are you sure you want to marry Mara? She's a badger, and you're a squirrel! According to my research, such pairing doesn't usually work out very well."

"Of course I will marry her, Brother Methuselah," replied Samkim. "Maybe you can do some studies on the benefits of interspecies relationships, okay?"

The following night, Mara and Samkim were in their bedchamber. Little Constance was tucked into her cradle. "That Methuselah," said Samkim. "He can be obnoxious at times."

"Oh, don't worry about him," said Mara. "I'm sure he'll become more respectful when he's old. He's becoming a good scholar you know."

Samkim and Mara both removed their clothing. They decided to mate in the missionary position, Samkim hugging Mara with his tail. They caressed and hugged, moaned and groaned during their intercourse. Samkim's squirrel spooge pumped into Mara's badger vagina. Then they fell asleep, dreaming of the future.
